just wondering, what's your taste/preferences in music like?

i would say fairly broad-- i'll go everything from cartoon musicals to hard dubstep-- though not infinite. i lean pop and dance and electronic and alt rock, because i'm a basic b.

according to my spotifystats, my current top genres are: Modern Rock, Metropopolis (?), Pop, Indietronica, Hopebeat, Indie Poptimism, and Modern Alternative Rock. some of these are words i recognise.

my favourite artists for over a decade had been florence + the machine, snow patrol, and owl city (due to Ratio Of Songs I'm Insane About), though at this point it's as much nostalgia as anything and not many of their songs are in my current circulation

overall i tend to prefer things that are high energy, but there are certainly mellow tracks i love as well!

update: i looked up metropopolis. it's a correct assessment, i can think of half a dozen songs in my current circulation that fit this, down to the urban lyrics.

DAY 18 : SUPERGIRL

let’s talk : So when I was making this playlist I didn’t have the supergirl of the 2000s or 90s or any other decade in mind. Instead I mainly had the supergirl of present day in mind. I love the maturity of the current supergirl. She is way too underused by dc in my opinion, but that rant can be saved for later. For now this rant is about music. I gravitated more towards pop since many superheroes most likely wouldn’t have the time to go out of the way from her music. So I thought she’d probably get most of her current taste from friends and family. That being said artists like David Bowie and no doubt were chosen based on a younger supergirls taste when she did have time to explore music tastes which is why these songs aren’t their biggest. (Still not obscure or deep cuts I should say). The decision of what type of pop music I wanted for this playlist was based around the Metropopolis. A genre I didn’t think would fit with the likes of Superman. I felt as if I didn’t use this genre for a superfamily member though then that would be a disservice, lol.

- Developed a very insane parasocial relationship with an artist during her childhood which she has never admitted and refuses to even bring the artist up again.

- Uses wired earbuds because of the cost yet she always has a new pair.

- Has created a playlist of songs she’s cried to. This is to make sure she never plays any of these songs in public.

- Her and Jon went to the eras tour once, posted it on insta, everybody got jealous. Long story short everybody in the superfamily went to the eras tour in metropolis. Of course funded by Damian who owed him one for dragging him to the black canary concert.

- Every post on her insta has a song added, though she doesn’t post that much anyways.

- Screams the lyrics to songs she likes when she’s alone but when around company only hums if you’re lucky.

I still don't know what indietronica actually is and I thought metropopolis was just the name of a playlist

My top 5s both are reasonably accurate. Röyksopp is kind of the dark horse of the year, coming back into my life with a bunch of re-releases and new remixes that made me do a big listen earlier this year.

Everyone else is just a consistent ride that I turn back to frequently.

welsh rock at #3 lets goooo (the "cymraeg" genre was only #4 for me last year, and all the welsh-language music i listen to is welsh rock and vice versa)

what a surprise

(my top artist every year since i got spotify in 2018 -- it feels like my number of minutes listened drops every year but i just looked back on my old wrappeds and it's actually been rising (more than double the 2020 number) even though they make up a smaller percentage of my overall music)

apparently i was right on the cusp of making the top 0.005% like i did last year -- one of my friends listened to them for around 6k minutes and made 0.005%

(~10.2% of my overall time, ~5.8 songs a day (using 3.25 as average song length since their newer songs have been getting shorter))

only listened to matt maeson these last couple months after he dropped his new album so im glad he made the list

i was scared of mcr beating bastille this year but yeah they werent even close

this feels pretty accurate -- certainly applies to my listening habits for bastille, matt maeson, and sŵnami off the top of my head. i rlly love seeing what all my friends got for this one <3

As fun as Spotify made-up genres are (still baffled by "Metropopolis" and "Escape Room"), I get really upset at "transpop" because it's so reductive of so many different talented bands and artists to just define their music solely by their identities, especially when many of those same bands literally just have a single trans member.

Plus, it's not even coherent because of how very dissimilar each band sounds from one another because it's not an actual genre!
