For the people who keep making weird tiktoks about how Cassie like incest bc she's used the trope
(first of all, have you really read all the books right?? Because it never seems like she's using it in a romanticizing it way, but in a way of showing a power abuse and violence)
I just want to say that she's CAREFUL AS FUCK when picking the couple right
Because thanks to TLH we kind of have an idea about the family tree.
The Blackthorns and Jace's Herondale line, are related, Tessa being their great great grandma i think??, Also the Lightwoods are there too
She really said: i'm not going to stay here and be acused of SHIT,
Alec, is paired with a 400 y/o indonesian warlock, safe✅
Julian and Emma's line are not intertwined, safe✅
The Fairchilds never mixed with the main families, so Jace and Clary, safe✅
Mark, he is half faerie, so he mixes with a faerie prince, and a mexican girl, he really said, not in LA, safe✅
Simon's a jewish mundane, Isabelle a Lightwood, safe✅
Diana and Gywn (the hunter), safe✅
Aline Penhallow, and Helen Blackthorn, Aline is not really one of the mains, safe✅
As for new possible couples:
Kit and Ty, Blackthorn and Herondale, yes, buuuuuut, its the LOST Herondale line😌, safe✅
Dru and Ash, well he is a prince of faerie and son os Sebastian Morgenstern/Fairchild, safe✅
She really brought back Jem from the (practically/mentally gone inmortal state) dead, Jem and Tessa, safe✅
I mean practically everyone is mostly related, the Blackthorns and Jace have the same great great grandma, and Jace and Emma are kinda related because of Cordelia, and the Lightwoods were cousins with the Herondales in TLH sooo she really thought about it

so funny to me when ppl reblog mabel quotes out of context. haha yeah it’s the funney faerie lesbian show right? mhm. hey wanna read my paper about why Lolo Garcia is the best trans rep in fiction podcasts. hey wanna read the dozens of articles that give clear context to the Irish and Indigenous Mexican roots of the podcast and why it is written the way that it is? Hey wanna see my intensely complicated lore chart? Hey wanna know how Jonathan Mills and Thomas irrevocably changed my life and how I understand masculinity and queerness? Hey wanna hear about how Anna Limón is one of the most important reasons I had in figuring out my own brain? Hey wanna know Mabel Martin’s incredibly fucked up backstory? Wanna hear about the cult? Do you? Hm?

Can you believe it's time to choose our book for March already? And every single choice an absolute banger! If you'd like to join the book club, feel free to send me a message and I'll drop you the link to our Discord! Book summaries are under the cut!
Unseelie by Ivelisse Housman
Twin sisters, both on the run, but different as day and night. One, a professional rogue, searches for a fabled treasure; the other, a changeling, searches for the truth behind her origins, trying to find a place to fit in with the realm of fae who made her and the humans who shun her. Iselia “Seelie” Graygrove looks just like her twin, Isolde… but as an autistic changeling trying to navigate her unpredictable magic, Seelie finds it more difficult to fit in with the humans around her. When Seelie and Isolde are caught up in a heist gone wrong and make some unexpected allies, they find themselves unraveling a larger mystery that has its roots in the history of humans and fae alike.
Both sisters soon discover that the secrets of the faeries may be more valuable than any pile of gold and jewels. But can Seelie harness her magic in time to protect her sister, and herself?
Bindle Punk Bruja by Desideria Mesa
A part-time reporter and club owner takes on crooked city councilmen, mysterious and deadly mobsters, and society’s deeply rooted sexism and racism, all while keeping her true identity and magical abilities hidden – inspired by an ancient Mexican folktale.
Yo soy quien soy. I am who I am.
Luna—or depending on who’s asking, Rose—is the white-passing daughter of an immigrant mother who has seen what happens to people from her culture. This world is prejudicial, and she must hide her identity in pursuit of owning an illegal jazz club. Using her cunning powers, Rose negotiates with dangerous criminals as she climbs up Kansas City’s bootlegging ladder. Luna, however, runs the risk of losing everything if the crooked city councilmen and ruthless mobsters discover her ties to an immigrant boxcar community that secretly houses witches. Last thing she wants is to put her entire family in danger.
But this bruja with ever-growing magical abilities can never resist a good fight. With her new identity, Rose, an unabashed flapper, defies societal expectations all while struggling to keep her true self and witchcraft in check. However, the harder she tries to avoid scrutiny, the more her efforts eventually capture unwanted attention. Soon, she finds herself surrounded by greed and every brand of bigotry—from local gangsters who want a piece of the action and businessmen who hate her diverse staff to the Ku Klux Klan and Al Capone. Will her earth magic be enough to save her friends and family? As much as she hates to admit it, she may need to learn to have faith in others—and learning to trust may prove to be her biggest ambition yet.
Scorched Grace by Margo Douaihy
Sister Holiday, a chain-smoking, heavily tattooed, queer nun, puts her amateur sleuthing skills to the test in this debut crime novel.
When Saint Sebastian’s School becomes the target of a shocking arson spree, the Sisters of the Sublime Blood and their surrounding community are thrust into chaos. Unsatisfied with the officials’ response, sardonic and headstrong Sister Holiday becomes determined to unveil the mysterious attacker herself and return her home and sanctuary to its former peace. Her investigation leads down a twisty path of suspicion and secrets in the sticky, oppressive New Orleans heat, turning her against colleagues, students, and even fellow Sisters along the way.
Sister Holiday is more faithful than most, but she’s no saint. To piece together the clues of this high-stakes mystery, she must first reckon with the sins of her checkered past—and neither task will be easy.
An exciting start to Margo Douaihy’s bold series for Gillian Flynn Books that breathes new life into the hard-boiled genre, Scorched Grace is a fast-paced and punchy whodunnit that will keep readers guessing until the very end.
The Shadow in the Glass by J.J.A. Harwood
Once upon a time Ella had wished for more than her life as a lowly maid.
Now forced to work hard under the unforgiving, lecherous gaze of the man she once called stepfather, Ella’s only refuge is in the books she reads by candlelight, secreted away in the library she isn’t permitted to enter.
One night, among her beloved books of far-off lands, Ella’s wishes are answered. At the stroke of midnight, a fairy godmother makes her an offer that will change her life: seven wishes, hers to make as she pleases. But each wish comes at a price and Ella must decide whether it’s one she’s willing pay.
A smoldering, terrifying new spin on Cinderella – perfect for fans of Laura Purcell and Erin Morgenstern.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
In this exhilarating novel, two friends—often in love, but never lovers—come together as creative partners in the world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality.
On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions of the betrayals of their hearts.
Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
As a young horse, Black Beauty is well-loved and happy. But when his owner is forced to sell him, his life changes drastically. He has many new owners—some of them cruel and some of them kind. All he needs is someone to love him again…
Whether pulling and elegant carriage or a ramshackle cab, Black Beauty tries to live as best he can. This is his amazing story, told as only he could tell it.
Inferno by Dan Brown
Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon awakens in an Italian hospital, disoriented and with no recollection of the past thirty-six hours, including the origin of the macabre object hidden in his belongings. With a relentless female assassin trailing them through Florence, he and his resourceful doctor, Sienna Brooks, are forced to flee. Embarking on a harrowing journey, they must unravel a series of codes, which are the work of a brilliant scientist whose obsession with the end of the world is matched only by his passion for one of the most influential masterpieces ever written, Dante Alighieri’s The Inferno.
Dan Brown has raised the bar yet again, combining classical Italian art, history, and literature with cutting-edge science in this sumptuously entertaining thriller.
Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle
A searing and earnest horror debut about the demons the queer community faces in America, the price of keeping secrets, and finding the courage to burn it all down.
They’ll scare you straight to hell.
Welcome to Neverton, Montana: home to a God-fearing community with a heart of gold. Nestled high up in the mountains is Camp Damascus, the self-proclaimed “most effective” gay conversion camp in the country. Here, a life free from sin awaits. But the secret behind that success is anything but holy.

HOOORAY! Its Done!!
My finalized spidersona design! including its demon form :D! Tarántula Tenango, youngest of the Tarantula Demon Trio based in the underground city of Escondido has made its debut!
(Some Info below the cut!)
After surviving the 'Rapture', when the earth of (3-626) was turned inside out overnight to encompass all manner of ghouls, demons, faeries, dragons and gods from across all kinds of mythologies and folklore returning to the human realm- No doubt caused by the Occultist Alchemax Society's meddling with their collider- Three siblings manage to fuse with three half baked, but powerful demonic spider parasites and survive their impending demonification.
With their original city gone and replaced with an ancient mesoamerican city infested with demons on the surface, and the towns people's frankensteined city buried below. The three siblings find themselves struggling to adapt to a reborn world and find a balance between their human and demon lives. As humans, they can no longer survive on regular food and live normal lives, forced to eat other demons and potentially humans for life sustaining Ichor. As demons they have the power to finally change things for the better, and protect the ones they love- even if it means having to take down every demon that steps in their way just to survive this apocalyptic world. Is the age of the 5th sun over?
All three sibling are based on the Tzitzimimeh, a tarantula, and a Mexican or Salvadoran folkloric creature/artisanal craft. Tenango is based on a Siguanaba, an Otomi doll with a Tenango style suit, and Greenbottle blue tarantula. they are the smallest at only 10'3 in demon form, but definitely the fastest and most agile of the three.
(Heavily inspired by Kazuma Kaneko's demon designs and the Shin Megami Tensei Series and Onyx Equinox anime.) (It/They pronouns.)

 (1/5 @infamous-if MC’s; more details here)
Alana Carita, lead singer of Promised Promises
Fans call themselves ‘The Promisers’ and call Soft Violence fans (especially those who were Alana or Alana/Seven fans) ‘Broken Promises’. (Alana has no idea about this, or she’d be heartbroken)
The mainstream calls her the ‘Mexican Taylor Swift’, which MOST of her fans hate, but some -- get it. (Alana thinks it’s flattering!)
She has been playing guitar most of her life, and used to post tutorials. She doesn’t as much any more. However, she does still have an online presence -- a lot of it is spent thanking fans, posting pictures about cookies native to places she’s toured, gushing over fashion, and supporting trans rights.
Her fans are SUPER over protective of her because they think she’s a ‘cinnamon roll too soft for the world; too pure’ and a ‘naive romantic (affectionate)’
She vocally sounds like a mix of Lindi Ortega (she’s actually done a cover of ‘To Love Somebody’ too that sounds similar) and Brandi Carlile.*
Her fans absolutely go gaga for her commitment to faerie tale and romantic aesthetics on stage (and for the camera); and are as dedicated to wearing something pink (or pastel) whenever Promised Promises performs. Some even wear flower crowns. Yes, even the chadbros.
There is no one in the world who can get her to bad mouth Seven. And she’s a supporter of Soft Violence. Much to many of the Promisers chargin. (As for the few who secrety the ship the two women and wish for a best friend reunion -- well, they’re smart enough to keep that to themselves. JK: They don’t but most try to ignore them. They’re seen as worse than the Broken Promisers).

2024 TBR Pile of Good Intentions
Tumblr media
(crossposted to Patreon)
This year’s TBR pile looks very much like last year’s (hence the reused banner image) but last year was also a shitshow so I’m giving myself a do-over. Although looking back, I did actually manage to read two (2) of the books on last year’s list! I even wrote about How to Live Like a Monk for my patrons! The other one was Mexican Gothic… Y’know, I should really write about Mexican Gothic…
Lion’s Paw Reads: (aka books I’m planning to do patron content about)
Orlando, by Virginia Woolf
A Haunted History of Invisible Women: True Stories of America’s Ghosts, by Leanna Renee Hieber and Andrea Janes
The Haunting of Alma Fielding, by Kate Summerscale
The Octagon House: A Home for All, by Orson Squire Fowler
Other Reads (Fiction):
Our Wives Under the Sea, by Julia Armfield
The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories, by Susana Clarke
Radiance, by Catherynne M. Valente
Gideon the Ninth, by Tamsin Muir
Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke
The City We Became, by N.K. Jemison
Nothing but Blackened Teeth, by Cassandra Khaw
The Story of Silence, Alex Myers
A Psalm for the Wild-Built, by Becky Chambers
Viriconium, by M. John Harrison
Queer Little Nightmares: An Anthology of Monstrous Fiction and Poetry, Edited by David Ly & Daniel Zomparelli
What Moves the Dead, by T. Kingfisher *I actually finished this last week!
Phantastes: A Faerie Romance, by George MacDonald
Other Reads (Non-Fiction):
City of Sin, by Catherine Arnold
The Mutual Admiration Society, by Mo Moulton
Monster, She Wrote, by Lisa Kröger and Melanie R. Anderson
The Gilded Edge, by Catherine Prendergast
Dickensland, by Lee Jackson
I might also do posts on some of these other books, provided I get to/through them. If you’re at all interested in my thoughts on this assemblage of horror, fantasy, scifi, and very niche historical non-fiction, I hope you’ll consider subscribing and telling me what else I should be reading!
