SUMMONING THE OSSAN'S LOVE / HARUMAKI FANDOM FOR ASSISTANCE (comments requested!)

so i'm making a harumaki / ossan's love returns sticker sheet (i've wanted to make ossan's love stuff since 2018 but oop i am perpetually distracted)

but i need help for what to put on the first sheet!!! cuz i have many sketches but no idea where to select!!

so can you comment and tell me what is the fandom's favorite harumaki moments? (i've watched all of the episodes, so don't you worry about spoilers.)

for example, one of my favorite moments was when harumaki was on their honeymoon and they did a classic pottery making class. <3

i recently asked for ships to draw on a certain site that's burning down to the ground and then... i drew them! i don't necessarily know these ships or the franchises they are from, BTW, so they might be OOC but whatever! just be kind and it'll all be fine and dandy!

ok i decided on a first name for the deku expy 2.0 mc LOL!! henceforth, all i will stop using the deku expy 2.0 tag. the new boi's name is rafa, short for rafael!

still pending on his last names. his sister's name may be changed to marie, but we're still looking.

here was the list i was debating over:

rafael - nicknames: rafa (eheh reference to one of my fave rappers), raffy, ralph (not sure if anyone would call him that)

raul - admittedly, this is recycling a name from an old oc so maybe not...

ryan - it's too harsh, but this was my first impulse. nicknames: ry, i guess?!? i don't really know any ryans.

arnold - a friend's suggestion. she thought he looks like an arnold. i... i don't really think so XD

as for last names, maybe it could be a hybrid. i've seen some people in the US (where this'll be set) do this.

dad's last name (first name: sotaro)

Amamiya - rain, shrine

Genji - two beginnings?

Hajime - beginning

Igarashi - fifty storms?

Imai - new place of residence?

Katayama - side mountain (i kinda am partial to this one. rafael katayama-[] sounds nice)

mom's last name (first: diana):

Becerra - young cow, high-spirited person

Bravo - rough, wild, courageous

Cortes - courteous, gracious

Figueroa - fig tree

Miranda - lovely, wonderful, admirable

Palacios - palace (if this, then the idea of a palace on/at the side of a mountain ^^ that's cute.)

also i know the first colored doodle of the gang has keiichi being all cute and gay with mc but remember. they are bkdk expies. they're not gonna be out and proud boyfriends for some time. XD (but it will happen. the subtext is just text.)

i think i should do what shounen manga zines do. make oneshots of my ideas, see how they actually fare as on a drawn page. i have a lot of experience finishing oneshots now anyway (if only in fic)--i don't see why i shouldn't take the next baby step.

is this me trying to convince myself to get right to drawing my new characters? maybe. i used to do this a lot when i was younger. i'd actually design the characters on the spot.

a problem i've been trying to solve is the hair color change keiichi will undergo early on. as some of y'all may know, if you do black and white comics, you only have values to work with. however, most manga won't go beyond a black, white (no tone), and gray for hair colors because you can easily clutter up or overwhelm the page. this means to an unexperienced reader, no-tone-haired characters may appear to have the same hair color, but the no tone color could actually be representing a myriad of colors.

from my observations (note: depending on the manga, these are not always the case, but generally is), black tones have often been used to suggest:

black hair (most common interpretation)

red hair (textured screentone has also been used for this)

blue (dark) hair

brown (dark) hair

green hair

gray tones (not as common & mangaka tend to stick to ONE shade of gray to use):

brown

pink (light)

no tones:

blonde (very common)

orange

pink

blue (light)

...and so forth

now, keiichi. the problem with him is that he goes from a light color to another light. i could definitely have the characters point out the color change (which will likely happen for characterization purposes) but i feel that the visual experience should match up. "show, don't tell," you know?

however, the reason why i haven't just made his hair "no tone" is because that first hair color is similar to the saeki twins' hair color. (both are orange.) i would like the twins, keiichi, and the mc to look good together.

so thus far, i have 2 solutions:

keiichi's orange hair is colored gray. rationale: the shade of orange his hair is more saturated. color change -> no tone. saeki fam's hair can remain no tone since their shade of orange is closer to gold. this would be great in terms of drawing--less to shade. mc, as the only character with dark tones in his design, would stand out.

keiichi's pink is technically a salmon pink color (or peach), so we could give him a lighter shade. saeki fam's hair can be no tone. this would be more work, but it would add a bit of variety to his mostly white color scheme (so far) in the grayscale manga. he could also be the bridge to the saeki twins/to the mc, which would be fitting, seeing as he'll be the deuteragonist.

but i got some neat ideas for the witch ally character (or IS SHE AN ALLY...?!?!)

7ft tall vs 8ft tall (normal height for witches)

weapon: long ass pipe. like. she can lean on it, use it like a cane, or as a fighting stick (i'm sure there's a better term, but i can't think of it right now)

element is fire--maybe she teaches the mc because the gal who loops mc and his boyf in is a terrible teacher. (too busy doing her grandma's dirty work)

when in demon form, her hair covers her upper torso and merges with her arms. then she get beefy, dangerous demon arms. pack a punch.

haven't had time, headspace, or energy to continue working on my bkdk expies 2.0 but with swords story, but i'm still passively thinking.

the witches were leaning into eerie and eldritch horror a bit (just the slightest) but now i'm thinking... what if a bit of drag queens becuase drag queens are cool. the exaggerated performance, the mockery--i think that would be cool for these literally tall af powerful entities

also, i really need something else to call this world. bkdk expies 2.0 is a mouthful and by this time in its development, it's not very bkdk expy anymore XD

last night, while avoiding working on my bkdk zine piece, i worked on... bkdk expies LOL

look, old habits die hard, okay? XD and sometimes, what really keeps you going is a new character, whose design, core concepts, and personality will change in wild ways the more time you spend with them!

well, in this case for this shameless second set of bkdk expies, i realized something. caught a whiff of something.

my theory is, given enough time, my monogamous gay couples will converge into my all-time fave 3 OTPs.

for your later context, those all-time faves (and by faves, i mean faves because i normally don't ship things) are:

InuKik

UtenAnthy

KatsuDeku

The first BKDK expy set turned out to be more like InuKik after a lot of cooking. The Deku character ended up being like Kikyou, whereas the Kacchan character calmed down a lot (actually, I think of him as a very serious character) and his outsanding quality is basically Inuyasha's loyalty.

But then! And I only realized this yesterday, remember! Utena and Anthy are in these guys too, even if it's in appearances!

So so the Deku-Kikyou guy--he has bad eyesight. There's a part in the story where he finally gets glasses. This part of the story is also when he gets involved in a cult implanted by colonizers (yep. oof.) Coincidentally, when his (to-be) husband (the Kacchan-Inuyasha guy) launches a whole ass solo operation to rescue the love of his life, Deku-Kikyou guy loses his glasses... HRM. Parallels to Anthy, no?!

Now the new Deku-expy. I legit thought about giving him glasses only because he was meant to take the whole "Deku is plain" part to the extreme (Deku ain't plain LMAO he's got green streaks in his hair! Silly anime, calling people with freckles "plain"). And my way of doing that, was using glasses instead of freckles. (MY REASONING IS THAT GLASSES ARE VERY COMMON--HECK, I WEAR GLASSES. Also, I did other things too, such as designing him in such a way that you could cosplay as him with everyday clothing. I tried not giving him anime hair either, but as you'll find out later, the cooking pot in which he simmers him said no and now he has a cute swirl bang.)

*cough* Anyway. So glasses. GLASSES. HRRRRRRRRRM WHO ALSO HAS GLASSES?! ANTHY.

As for Utena (because I mentioned her), where does she come into play? Well, she appears in the Kacchan Expy 2.0 who I'm tentatively calling him Aibara Keiichi because 1) "Love Roses" for an unhinged gremlin like him is peak comedy for me and--THERE. YOU SEE?? ROSES?? UTENA.

(Okay no it's because early on in the concepting stage, his main color went from orange to pink [salmon]. There's a story reason for this that I'm growing attached to so he might just be pink from the get-go. AND WHO'S PINK? UTENA UTENA UTENA!)

TL;DR, you like what you like. And you will replicate what you like. That's totally fine in my opinion. Nothing is truly original, they're just puzzles of the way we all see things and what we like and connect to.
