The X-Files 30th Anniversary

Day 7: 30th Anniversary Extravaganza

Today, I'm thanking The X-Files community for bringing me across a wonderful show-- its amazing cast and writers and fans-- and inspiring me to get back on my own creative hobbyhorse.

My Thanks

Being a part of a collective who want to celebrate this show and others' creative endeavors with heartfelt good wishes has been exciting, fun... and humbling.

My special thanks to the many people who welcomed me with open arms and contribute to this space, even if it's "simply" (but it's never just anything, is it?) answering asks or reblogging or even liking a random post that passed from one blog to another.

There are too many to list, so I'll just chat about my most remembered moments:

30 rock rewatching was a rotten mistake on my part 😭 I've about gone loopy on all the old Jack/Liz feelings, and there's even less fandom than before. And of course I know that the farther I get in my rewatch the more it'll turn into misogyny cringe theater re: Liz Lemon and her willfully dismissal relationships. I still don't understand what Tina Fay was thinking, aside from being aggravatingly eager to laugh at the type of viewer who tuned in to the show because they identified with Liz.

Which is. Certainly a choice. Though one that always sells apparently.

Anyway. Rereading all of Michellek and @mindibindi's wonderful Jack/Liz fics is happening 🥲

Currently reading: I just finished This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone and it was PHENOMENAL. Now I've started Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice and am finding it weirdly hilarious.

Last song: "Foreigner's God" by Hozier. I've been playing all 3 of their albums on repeat for days and am experiencing Every Emotion Known to Man, Plus Several New Ones.

Currently watching: AHS. Catching up as the last season I watched was 1984. Almost done with Double Feature which has some serious XF vibes in the beginning of the second half.

Current fic: Reading "Visitor" by @leiascully and "Snake Oil" by @cutemothman (aka spookyfoxmulder on ao3, plz update soon I need the aaaaaaagnst). Writing an XF/BTVS crossover that's done except for editing! (Plz PM if you want to beta it for me, I'm pretty proud of it but need a second set of eyeballs to check my insanity.)

Next on my watchlist: X-Files, again. Gonna take it slow this time though.

Current obsession: Look I've been obsessed with The X-Files for like 25 years now and I have no plans on changing that. I will be mainlining that shit in the grave. Bury me with my FTF Barbies.

“ I think any bitterness of this show has more to do with her relationship with the creator. Don't really have much to say about that. Y'all seem to think you know the ins and outs of her private life but guess what? You don't and have no right to.” Speak for yourself, honey.

“ She gets to be with a fab cast of young'ns AND she  gets to do other things, including spend time with her own family.” So we were the ones supposed to know the ins and out of her private life. Figures.

She doesn't OWE us anything.” Celebrities basically owe their careers to their fans. No fans? No money. Simple. 

“ WE didn't give her her career anymore than CC did. Gillian WORKED HARD for everything she now has. She put in the hard yards. She didn't do it for money or ambition.” No, you are write, she works for free. Just like her cons.

“ She came back for Chris, David and the fans and did her job despite woeful material. How about YOU all show HER some gratitude?” EXCUSE ME?! I don’t have to show her anything at all! You want to suck up to her until your eyes roll back in your head? Suit yourself! 

“ Much like regular news media, I imagine Gillian uses these accounts to engage in her own own unique, fun way, but she's probably not on there by choice. I think if you think that then you need a bit of a reality check.” Reality check: Hello, Lucy?? Sarah?? et al.

“ you don't have the right to resort to vitriol” The usual MO today: a different opinion is just vitriol.
