I am so excited for minhos album it’s been such a long time coming!!!!!!

I’m excited to see him promote the album and finally have a full thing that’s just his own! Especially since we are on the eve of SHINee being back together this will give him a lot more options for solo stages other than just heartbreak or I’m home!!!!

Things I’m most excited about (besides the whole album obviously):

- cinematic trailer! as expected of Minho, I wonder how much involvement into the storyline/filming he had (please I need bts for everything, I need to hear Minho talk about the process of creating and recording the album and filming MV)

- digital album release almost a week ahead of physical album! I’m sure it has to do with fanmeeting and Minho wanting to have Shawols singing his songs with him ❤︎

- the teasers so far suggest dark atmosphere for the concept, I wonder if MV will be also held in similar tone.

To sum it all up, I’m so excited!!!

[221219] MINHO - CHASE - BEHIND THE SCENES

Hey, so here’s my lil’ mini review of Minho’s mini-album Chase after listening to the whole thing twice:

Chase: I keep running x4 run~ I like the beat, like instantly from the start, the piano playing along with the beat captivated me right away. And I already knew the song'd be sad from the teasers but the lyrics with his beautiful voice (which had some interesting auto-tune uses at various times) was real nice.

Runaway: Whenever a song starts with Oh yeah, I just know the beat drop's gonna be unique lol. Anyways love this beat and his voice ofc!! Gemini's voice sounded nice too, like I like his tone and how seamlessly his part came on after Minho's ^^. Also, love how the song picked up towards the end. A bop, your honor!

Prove It: From the start, I knew I'd love this ^^. (I see that Minho has a knack for choosing songs with nice beats <3. As expected from my honeybun bruh.) Anyways, he sounded so good in this bruh especially during the chorus. And I'm glad the ending went back to just the beat like the beginning. Makes the song feel like a nice palindrome in that way.

Waterfall: AHHHH. I need a Cha cha Beat Boy~ Minho's voice is already so beautiful but this song feels like he's serenading me~ This would be completely chef's kiss tho I'mma be honest, dunno if I care much for Lim Kim's vocals in this. She sounded like she was singing like a Western Indie singer (welcome to my kitchen, we've got bananas and avocados). They were harmonizing well with each other but honestly I'd wish she'd sung differently or he just sung this solo (prob an unpopular opinion tho but I stand by it).

Choice: Didn't know how I'd feel about this song 'cause the song started kinda generic. Then, the pre-chorus came and he started talk-rapping and I just…mmm nah. Chorus is decent and cute but compared to the first 3 and last song, this song should've been taken out the album imo. It doesn't even match the sad, sexy mood like the other songs. Like this song sounds like it's been in the vault for a while bruh and tbh it shoulda stayed there.

Heartbreak: Already heard this song when it first released with its mv and it's a chill bop ^^. Already been on my playlist baybeee~

And so my favs from this album in order are: Heartbreak, Runaway, Prove It, Chase, Waterfall >>>>>>>>[a wall], Choice.

TL;DR: It was so hard choosing my favs in order between the first 3 and last song but I finally came to a decision after the 2nd listen. I'm seriously so proud of Minho tho like this is his first mini album <333!! I can't wait to see what else he comes out with but I already feel like he's found his groove lowkey with this type of genre~ So, I'd def rec listening to this and not just 'cause he's my ult Kpop bias lmao ('cause if I didn't like even 1 song, y'all would know :P).

OK Chase absolutely slaps. Like I’ve always liked him and his solo music and his voice but this album totally blew my expectations out of the water. I loved getting to hear him sing and rap in the same song!!!! at this point I think my favourite songs are run away and choice, but prove it is a very close second!

This was just a pretty fast gouache piece done in my sketchbook, but I’m actually really proud of how it turned out considering the fact that I did this all freehand and I am not very good at straight lines and it lettering and even though it’s just his eyes doing a more realistic style is something I’m not used to, but I think it was pretty good! His one eye is a little bit wonky, but I’m gonna blame that on the fact that otherwise it would’ve landed right in the seam of the notebook and I didn’t want that!!

Please, please go and listen to Chase and watch the music video. If you haven’t seen it, it’s so good and Minho deserves all the praise.!!!!!

As a member of SHINee, Choi Minho’s teens and twenties have revolved almost wholly around the South Korean boyband since its debut in 2008. Outlasting many of its fellow second-generation idol groups in the ever-evolving K-pop scene, SHINee is now into its 15th year. Boybands with such longevity are rare, particularly when their members are called up for mandatory military service, causing them to go on hiatus. This was the case for the group, when three members—including Choi, who is better known by his mononym Minho—were called up for military duty in 2018. He enlisted in 2019, taking his first real break from the entertainment scene since joining the group as a fresh-faced 16-year-old.
