BNHA Girl's Redesigns

Renamed more in the second batch than the first batch (apparently I only liked the original Uravity & Froppy, does Alien Queen count tho?)

Mina Ashido (Alien Queen)

I don't know how to explain the differences I chose bc it's a pretty similar aesthetic to her canon design. Though, definitely wanted her hair to be white & her horns the same pink as her skin. I wanted to push her suit in the more space/alien direction bc I have a small grudge against midnight for vetoing the name. I made her suit pattern and eyes compliment each other a bit more w blue & green. I kept the fur cuz it's cute and a bit gaudi which is in her taste & lastly I made her acid more colorful so it's not....yk semen white.

Tooru Hagakure (Oversight)

For Hagakure, I wanted to lean into the stealth thing a bit with a ninja motif; and if Mirio can have a suit with the properties of his quirk from studying his hair, so can she. I also wanted every bit of her design to be so pale she's nearly translucent when visible (she would be able to voluntarily change her visibility, but still prefers to be invisible.) Her hair is also short and a bit of a mess since she is unburdened by her appearance +with an iridescent sheen. I made her eyes a pale purple because extremely albino people with very little melanin in their eyes have purple iris's due to blue pigment mixing with red vines. Lots of small nitpicky details with her lol

Kyouka Jirou (Pulse)

With Jirou, I wanted her bangs to cover her face and (it didn't come across well in the final) her sideburn pieces to be longer than the rest of her bob which is already longer than canon with an undercut. She also needed more of a proper hero costume imo, so she's got that leather/spandex bodysuit with a volume emblem; the stripes on her sleeves would also vaguely resemble the bare of a volume key. I actually went through a few renditions to figure her out but I'm really glad for that; I didn't illustrate it here, but I think it would be cool if she had some iron hammers to plug into that she would slam into the ground or into her enemies & amplify the sound. Small difference, I moved the speakers from her boots up to her knees for closer access.

As much as Tamaki would like to say he isn’t the type of person to judge if he should speak to some based on what they look like (aesthetic wise) he does.

He’s a shy person so speaking to anyone in general makes him scared especially when they’re as intimidating as you; with your pale white foundation covering your natural complexion, black lipstick perfectly lining the plush skin of your lips, the thickness of your shoes elevating your height, they tattoos running up and down your arms just make you more intimidating if it weren’t just your aura alone.

He knew who you were obviously, you both have classes together but he only knows the basics— like your name, your quirk, your age, that your goth, and that you have tattoos. Something not commonly seen in someone who is or is planning to be a pro hero.

He would be lying if he said that you didn’t have this alluring pull towards him. Your scary, everyone knows that but to him— to him your something different in the best way possible.

Not constantly trying to be in others business, not trying to be overly friendly, only really interacting with other when necessary, not caring about what others think about you.

Hideyoshi Kanda/Roostertail - M, “Chicken” grants the user the ability to transform into a giant 10 foot rooster (think terror bird) with a sonic crow.

Chō Sugimura/Pause Button - F, “Time Stop” grants the user the ability to freeze time for thirty seconds. Recharge of one day required. 

Katsu Saitou/Tremors - M, “Earthquake” The ability to make the ground shake, can cause liquefaction under the right circumstances.

Yoshie Urano/Plasma Bolt - M, “Plasma Bolt” grants the user the ability to generate and manipulate plasma balls, including throwing energy blasts.

Yaeko Moriyama/Eleventh Metal - F, “Magnetic” grants the user the ability to mess with metal's polarity, as well as magnetize themselves. She can use this to “jump” long distances by pushing off metal and then pulling herself to a new metal by changing her and its polarity. Only works if the metal is heavier than she is.

Kōta Yukimura/Rōnin - M, “Stat Boost” grants the user the ability superhuman reflexes and increased stamina. Prefers to use a katana because aesthetic.

Reiko Hino/Misty - F, “Sublimation” grants the user the ability to transform into a fog-like form. The user still has to take in oxygen and cannot permeate through objects.

Akiko Yamauchi/Whirlwind - F, “Telekinesis” grants the user to move objects with her mind, but only objects weighing less than 20 lbs. She can pick up quite a few though and likes to make a vortex of ouch! around her.

Takako Shibuya/MoonBeam - M, “Laser Beam” grants the user the ability to shoot a laser beam from his third eye. The beam is a bright silvery white and can vary in temperature, from mild burn to welding-torch. Too much use can cause MoonBeam to go temporarily blind in his third eye.

Isamu Iwai/Featherweight - M, “Mass” grants the user the ability to change an object’s mass temporarily if he touches it. Mass returns to normal after five minutes.

Hayate Miyamoto/Aquifer - M, “Water” grants the user the ability to create water and, to some extent, manipulate water he did not create. 

 Ryoichi Miyake/Hermes - M, “Winged Feet” grants the user the ability to fly very fast with winged feet.

 Hachirou Hashiguchi/Wolfgang - M, “Wolf” grants the user the ability to blow giant gusts of wind with his mouth. (He’s also a wolf heteromorph and Winterheart’s big brother!)

Miki Amano/Slime Devil - F, “Slime” grants the user the ability to generate slime that can either stay slick, get sticky, or harden to trap villains. She can generate slime from anywhere, but she prefers to use her hands.

Naruhito Sano/Batman - M, “Bat” a partial bat mutation. Can’t fly fast but can still fly, very good at echolocation and can even knock someone out with a sound wave if he gets close enough. He has very sensitive hearing, but is nearsighted. 

Kiyo Takenaka/Delirium - F, “Fever Dream” can cause terrifying hallucinations when she meets her opponent’s eyes. A strong willed enough victim can break free, though.

Shizuko Inaba/LaVenus - F, “Venus Flytrap” grants the user the ability to grow giant venus flytraps from her fingers and arms. The stems can get very long, and the flytrap heads are the size of basketballs. The flytraps can move independently of her will. She can also create one giant flytrap.

 Kenzou Satō/ZoomZoom - M, “Speedster” grants the user the ability to run very very fast. They are not as fast as the Flash or Hawks, but he’s considered on par with Ingenium. 

Akane Arima/Comet - F, “Meteor Hands” grants the user the ability to create bowling ball sized rocks, set them on fire, and throw them with incredible speed and accuracy.

Sumire Fukui/Obscurus  - F, grants the user the ability to create a field of darkness around themselves up to thirty feet diameter. They can see in the dark, but it cancels out all other types of vision.

Akihito Yoshino/Tarantella  - M, “Tarantula” grants the user the ability to use thermal vision, web creation (from their wrists) for sticky nets and ropes, and climb sheer walls. Since they’re a spider heteromorph, they have six arms, extra eyes, and is extra strong.

Shichirou Iwamoto/Captain Kangaroo - M, “Kangaroo” can do everything a kangaroo can, BIG muscles and can punch your lights out. Kangaroo heteromorph, of course.

Shinsuke Shimizu/Catscratch - M, “Scratch” grants the user the ability of silver fingernails that can lengthen to a foot long and can cut through steel.

 Osamu Ōshiro/Freeze Frame - M “Finger Frame” grants the user the ability to freeze something just by catching it between the square of their fingers, like he was making a frame around it. Freeze as in stop, not as in cold, and the fingers must be square and touching. The farther away and the more things caught between the frame, the harder the frozen things fight to start again.

Sayuri Hashiguchi/Winterheart - F, “Cold Breath” grants the user the ability to breathe freezing air and snow. Basically the exact opposite of breathing fire. (She’s Big Bad Wolf’s twin sister, but she’s not a heteromorph!)

Masato Yoshida/Bones - M, “Bone Armor” grants the user the ability to create armor made of super dense bone. He can even bounce bullets off it. Has been likened to an armadillo to tease him.

Yuu Seki/Cable - F, “Steel Medusa”  grants the user the ability to manipulate her hair made of steel cables.

Akito Maeda/X-Ray - F, “Identifying Eye” grants the user the ability to see weak points in structures and enemies. However, she herself has no extra strength or speed, and her vision can be overwhelmed.

Daigo Kanemaru/Porcupine - M, “Needle Spit” Can spit various amounts of needles of different sorts and lengths.

I just want to talk about the curious connection between Dabi and Mr. Compress.

When MVA starts, we have 6 members of the LoV, these 6 are the most recognized members. While everyone in the LoV are connected because they share a lot of between themselves, each member have their partner. This duos are thematically connected, their characters share more specific things and usually, their best relationship in the LoV are with this partner. These duos are formed around the main 3 villains: Toga and Jin/Twice (the most notorious duo), Tomura/Tenko and Shuichi/Spinner, and Dabi/Touya and Mr. Compress/Atsuhiro.

A lot was and is talked about the first two duos, so let's focus on the third one.

I think it's not a surprise that despite the fact that Touya didn't want to get along a lot with the LoV, he did. And the one who weirdly had and has a better relationship (the best Touya can do) is Atsuhiro. The two mysterious ones.

What they have in common?

Theater/Dance theme, performance as the core of how they show themselves: While Atsuhiro is more "dramatical" and elegant, we know Touya, when it comes to showing before his family, he does his act, certain poses, phrases, etc, it's more like gothic literature btw (he is like Frankenstein's monster) Both share this theater theme/aesthetic, it's obvious, it's the first trait that its presented about Atsuhiro. While in Touya's case, is something we see later.

The family heritage and believing they are an extension of certain relative, the core of their stories: Core piece of their stories is about the accomplishment of his family heritage, the importance of their family ties.

Touya puts emphasis on being Endeavor's son, explaining that he does what he does because of being his son. He is Endeavor's projection, his continuation, his extension.

Atsuhiro puts emphasis on being Oji Harima's descendant, explaing he does what he does because he has to do what Oji Harima did. He has his blood, he sees himself as his continuation, his extension.

Atsuhiro himself highlights that Touya and him share this thing about being part of certain lineage.

Both let their lifes be about this relative, making it the core of their decisions and actions.

Of course it's extremely different what they lived but the point here is the essential part of the influence of family heritage in their lives.

New identity: Easy, Touya died, Dabi was born.

Atsuhiro before was a magician, an entertainer. But now he is Mr. Compress.

They new identity are their choice, it isn't a reference to someone else, and it's not only a new name and look, it's a whole new life purpose, their new self.

Both hid their true appearances, and revealing themselves is a big show.

Dabi's Dance and Final Performance: Touya's revelation and Atsuhiro's escape "act" are events that happened next to each other. In fact, one is ch. 290 and the other ch. 294. Atsuhiro's revelation follows Touya's. He starts the show with his dance, and Atsuhiro finish it with the League's escape. It all start with Touya first move of presenting himself as Touya Todoroki and ends with Atsuhiro's reverence. And they use the same stage for their show.

Both chapters have this curious theme about staging and their performances. For Touya its the beginning of his show, while for Atushiro, its the final. It's literally in the titles, the show theme is so important.

In these chapters, both reveal their real appearance and present their family ties and how important they are for who they are now.

Another detail is that the last one that Atsuhiro compressed is Touya, giving him something like a high five, looking like some takeover for Touya. Now he is the principal performer, the principal entertainer, it's his show, the beginning of it.

Self destruction as their show: Atsuhiro mutilated himself making the great escape for his friends. He didn't stop until Mirio punched him, but even being hurt, the show didn't stop. Touya is burning himself even more for his show. In Dabi's Dance he burned more parts of his skin, and during this final arc, he looks like a corpse, and it's crucial to his "show", his last show. Also, both do this using their quirks.

aquarium rescape!

So my aquarium was getting fairly overgrown in its current layout, so I decided to rescape the whole thing! Also, I'm going to be moving in July and took the opportunity to give away 6 of my kuhli loaches to someone with a nice 75 gallon tank so as not to worry about them later.

My main goals with the rescape were:

update the look to something more aesthetically pleasing to me

have a larger sandy area for the loaches to enjoy

have a dirted area without gravel covering it for the plants

have more open swimming space for the fish

get rid of my less healthy stem plants to cut down on maintenance time

Here's the result!

The water is still a little bit foggy because of the bacterial bloom that rescaping caused, but ammonia is sitting pretty at zero and I have high hopes that I haven't crashed the cycle.

The only stem plants I kept were the filigree mirio because it grows very quickly but doesn't get unhealthy at its bottoms as it does, and my moneywort, because it's a slightly slower-growing stem, I like the look of it a lot, and like the filigree mirio, it doesn't get as messy as the various rotalas and ludwigias.

I've made my mainstay plants my giant monster crypts, and did a lot of decorating with epiphytes like buce and a few types of anubias. Overall, I really like the way the forested bit balances with the empty space, and I can't wait for the plants to straighten out/grow in a little better!

Also, I expected the fish to be stressed out and hiding after such a big change, but they're all quite enjoying the new swimming space and have been out and about:

The tetras have been swimming around a lot.

The loaches are all enjoying the new rocks and sand! The rocks are seiryu stone.

Even Jin Ling, who is normally hard to get a photo of, has been exploring rather than hiding!

And all the shrimp are swimming alllll over the place.

Total fish count is 1 honey gourami, 3 hillstream loaches, 8 neon tetras, and 6 java loaches, plus shrimp and snails. Overall, I'm really pleased with the results! Excited to see how it looks in a couple of months.

Also Bakugo and Monoma made a massive fucking explosion at graduation while Iida posed. Like, appreciate that for a moment.

Wasn't Hawks' goal to give heroes more free time aka less responsibility? "... a broadening of of the role heroes play in society." Seems counterintuitive. As in, it's literally the opposite. Hawks became HPSC president and just started giving heroes more work.

eri and hitoshi siblings headcanons

eri is the one and only person who hitoshi will sing for. he might sing in front of you (reluctantly) but he will only sing for her

eri is also the only one who can make hitoshi smile when he doesn't feel good, either because she's just so adorable and amazing or because he wants to reassure her.

onto more cursed things. hitoshi teaches eri how to climb. she loves to get on top of the fridge

sometimes aizawa will come home to see both of his children napping in cupboards. he doesn't have the heart to tell them to stop they look too impossibly comfy in there

hitoshi also teaches eri how to mimic sounds, mostly cat sounds. he also offered bird sounds but she dislikes birds because of Overhaul at first (eventually hitoshi will compare mic to a cockatoo and she'll go omg. there's other birds)

hitoshi is a raging insomniac and eri has nightmares, a match made in heaven. at first eri comes to see him rather than aizawa because hes not here or he's asleep, but then she starts going to hitoshi more often.

hitoshi will generally ask her if she wants to tell him what happened in her dream and try to make it less scary if she tells him. like she'll say that overhaul looked like a big bad crow man and hitoshi will say well yknow what birds are scared of? cats. and you know what we have a lot of?

if this doesn't work or she doesn't tell him about her dream, he'll sing to her and rock her a bit his arms or read her a story.

aizawa's phone wallpaper is a picture he took of eri and hitoshi asleep on the couch, eri in hitoshi's arms and one of the cats in eri's arms.

eri loves to nap with her brother. she knows he has trouble sleeping so sometimes she'll see him yawn and be like nap. now

don't underestimate this child she can and will trap hitoshi by pretending to have fallen asleep on him until he rests.

aizawa is very proud of her for her skills. it's a logical ruse

when eri grows up a bit and is more confident in herself she will be a little shit. she lives with both hitoshi and aizawa there was no chance she'd be normal /j

she play fights with hitoshi all the time (wins a lot) and she loves to bet on stupid things.

she calls hitoshi a raccoon and a dumbass cat man. in return hitoshi calls her a little rat (in opposition to aizawa calling her a little mouse) and a cardboard kitten.

aizawa has no siblings and has no idea what's happening with this kids half the time

eri is terrified of something bad happening to hitoshi but she shows it in a very recovery girl way. she can and will bring you back to life and murder you

I like to think she is very loud as she gets older, thanks to katsuki's affirmation that she's cool and strong and should show it

she's also very sunshiney from Mirio and Izuku's influences.

result? tired dad, punk/goth brother and kidcore/punk sister. we love the opposite and complementary aesthetics.

also really like the hc that eri grows super tall. like taller than aizawa and hitoshi.

hitoshi would get his growth spurt and be taller than aizawa and be like >:3 ehehehhe

and then tiny eri just SHOOTS UP like minecraft bamboo and she's like :3 eheheheheheheh

hitoshi is not pleased. aizawa finds this hilarious.
