“queer spaces should be inclusive of people who don’t enjoy sex and who have “strange”, negative or repulsed relationships with sex” and “sex is an important aspect of lgbt community, history, and activism and queer people should be allowed and able to talk freely about sex without stigma or shame” are ideas that can and should coexist.
#‘queer people were banned from and shamed for having sex and that’s where a lot of our activism stemmed from’ and#‘not liking or having sex is considered abnormal and a mental illness and also needs to be destigmatized’ are concepts that not only can but#often do coalign#it’s esp important to consider that a lot of lgbt ppl who have a tricky and strained relationship with sex are like that because of trauma#which is very common for queer folks#it’s really not an ace-only thing#like i am sex repulsed but it’s very hard to discern if it’s because i’m asexual or if it’s the trauma. either way i deserve to have those#feelings and be included in lgbt spaces and discussions about sex and treated as just another queer person with a different experience#instead of being alienated because my feelings about sex don’t directly line up with yours#im so sick of people in this community trying to pit us against each other. as an ace lesbian that shit is so toxic and harmful#my relationship with sex is fluid. im sex-positive always‚ but i often find myself sex repulsed. im otherwise neutral about it but im sick#of people acting like it’s either you enjoy sex and have it frequently or you hate it and you shame everyone who has it like youre a puritan#and it’s often aphobes who bought into that ‘aces are puritanical celibate straights who want ppl who have gay sex to die or think they’re#‘dirty’ or some shit. and it was literally 90% crypto-aphobes pretending to be aces to get people to adopt that into their belief system#the same way crypto-t/rfs pretend to be trans women who want to prey on the ‘innocent women’#and y’all will use those posts/screenshots as ‘evidence’ that whatever scapegoat you’ve selected is actually inherently bad/homophobic/#misogynistic/etc and not even#acknowledge the giant hole in your logic cuz you’re too busy trying to find a scapegoat#it’s the same tactics and y’all fall for it every time#text post#like. lesbians are CONSTANTLY getting hounded and told that we’re broken or mentally i’ll for not showing interest in (having sex with) men#for the same reason asexuality is considered bad or wrong or weird#not showing interest in heterosexual relationships or sex is why this is so important#anyone that falls outside the scope of heterosexuality is part of this community whether you like it or not

i’m always hesitant to be like “ophelia is JUST a facet of hamlet and the feminine” because ophelia is fascinating and shouldn’t be reduced to that much (and this essay proceeds to get into that). but. due to my condition (not caring about cis people disorder) i am thinking... about transgender hamlet again. obviously hamlet’s words are misogynistic regardless of what gender hamlet is, but something something ophelia as reflecting hamlet’s self-loathing by being The Feminine Part Hamlet Wants To Destroy--in the case of transmasc hamlet, because she’s who he used to be, a walking deadname, and in the case of transfemme hamlet, because she represents a sort of womanhood/femininity she’s not entitled to at all. what does ophelia reflect back at hamlet that he can’t stand? and what might she know about him because of it?
[image description: a screenshot of the following paragraph from Elaine Showalter’s “Representing Ophelia”:
A third approach would be to read Ophelia’s story as the female subtext of the tragedy, the repressed story of Hamlet. In this reading, Ophelia represents the strong emotions that the Elizabethans as well as the Freudians thought womanish and unmanly. When Laertes weeps for his dead sister he says of his tears that “When these are gone,/The woman will be out”—that is to say, that the feminine and shameful part of his nature will be purged. According to David Leverenz, in an important essay called “The Woman in Hamlet” Hamlet’s disgust at the feminine passivity in himself is translated into violent revulsion against women, and into his brutal behavior towards Ophelia. Ophelia’s suicide, Leverenz argues, then becomes “a microcosm of the male world’s banishment of the female, because ‘woman’ represents everything denied by reasonable men.”

#me
#this is what the average person on tumblr is missing. what i meant when i said the average person on tumblr should see misogynistic men talk#on the internet regularly they would benefit from that#not incels or andrew tate guys. normal guys#in november#and like i say: brf slt#i remember in 2016 when i was just getting into feminism as like a thing of the present the big thing on french twitter was for guys to say#meuf = pute: girl = whore. they would just say this. 24/7. not even a creative way to be misogynistic. but i was like oh!#then when girls would talk about getting harassed they would be like you made this up you're too ugly a film directed by quentin#tarantino etc. i think one of the most frustrating things they do is say no boy has ever sexually harassed a girl in middle school because#all they thought about at that age (that age being. from 11 to 15) was football and video games like OH MY GOD we were literally there#i mean no there's worse a lot worse but it's one of the most annoying ones like how are you all coming together to collectively#gaslight us#i could give more examples but it's not that interesting just these people HATE US!!!!!!#it's never just one or two guys or even ten or even twenty it's SO MANY PEOPLE just united by their hatred of women...heartwarming#in a way#but whatever i know people are awful on the internet or whatever but these people exist irl i'm pretty sure. im just not blissfully unaware#i'm sure that's nice. it's probably a bliss even. frustrating for normal people who have to interact with that though#or maybe not for normal people misogyny is a very widespread thing idk if you know this...frustrating for me!#like why does seeing frankly misogynistic tweets kinda not bother me as much as seeing posts that act like misogyny isn't a thing. at least#they're honest!!!!!#like it does feel very bad. but i'm used to it. kind of

*scrolling through the tag for the first time*
"Mizu is a trans man and so it's transphobic for the creators to show part of his life as a woman or talk about him with she/her at all"
*absurd amount of self control not to engage in what would become a fruitless discussion, ultimately keep scrolling*
"Mizu is a woman and it's disrespectful to women to call her a trans man because it takes away a 'strong woman' representation"
*scream into a pillow*

like there has to be other people on here who are reading past the surface level implications of tom’s behaviour to shiv this episode. it’s part of a wider trend that’s been prevalent since the start of the show. like shiv repeatedly has told tom not to touch her this season yet he never took her seriously and then he flicks her ear. not gently might i add. and no matter your interpretation whether you consider that to be hitting her or not (it basically is) that’s still unwanted touch. it crossed a line shiv literally recoils right after. she looks shocked and tom knows he crossed a line but there just has to be a middle ground between reading it as ‘tom is a wife beater’ or ‘this is just silly failmarriage hijinks’ like there’s so clearly a tonal shift after he lays a hand on her. no less in an episode which clearly shows how similar waystar and gojo are as companies that enforce the idea that women are expendable and under the authority of these companies women are harassed and ignored and abused and then the nature of this abuse is trivialised. and like tom has always felt a certain entitlement towards shiv (eg attempting to baby trap her in s3 + the repeated social climbing attempts made through her every season since s1) but it’s so clearly emphasised this season. and like who has tom been in close proximity to since the s3 finale up until just recently who also feels a entitlement over shiv and also belittles and weaponises her gender against her? who also forces her into the gendered role of Wife/Daughter against her will and whose own abuse towards her is specifically misogynistic in its nature? like it seems to me the proximity around logan has enforced the idea in tom’s head that he has a certain given entitlement and right over shiv no matter what. like the jokes about tom being openly hostile towards shiv now when he hasn’t in past seasons. like i wonder where he internalised all that. who else has acted just exactly like that.. . simply put logan labels shiv as tom’s “fucking wife” enforcing the idea that shiv is just an extension of him and tom. and even now that logan’s gone tom’s misogyny and his utilisation of it has so clearly intensified from watching and learning how logan himself operates in regards to his treatment of shiv and other women close to him.

(re-ish)watching ncis in 2023 is like came for the murder and crime solving, stayed for the absolutely unhinged tiva plotline
#zanna talks#ncis you beautiful mess of a show#like yeah it's blatantly nationalistic and Very post9/11 and us military propaganda#it likes to be misogynistic and xenophobic and try to play it as a joke#sometimes gibbs will do things that make me feel ill#and also it looooves praising cops and idolizing the maverick mentality and villifying defense lawyers#um point being it's got a lot of flaws and if i hadn't associated it with childhood nostalgia i'm not sure i could have made it far enough#in my rewatch to hit the point where it actually feels worth it past being a good distraction when i feel bad#like the point where you watch tony really start to grow and the plotlines get better and the relationships deepen etc#but man when it hits it hits#wild to watch it as an adult and realize actually the tiva stuff was there all along with effort put in and it wasnt just me making it up#75% of the time theyre just sniping at each other and being annoying coworkers but sometimes they give u a glimpse#not just of how good thye are as a dynamic but just the mcrt in general?#tony burning the letter from jeanne and trying to let go after realizing his team is like his family??#them being the ones to get ziva out of somalia and not her shitty bio dad and sticking up for her when she wants out???#them always believing in each other when they get framed ?? thanksgiving together??#coworkers as family is highly unrealistic in this day and age and maybe just in general but im willing to allow it bc man. they care.#sorry this got. away from me. what was i even talking about#ncis

i am once again thinking about nanfah no last name and how his relationship with Kaewta fell apart because she couldn't tell him and Nannam apart, how Pladao also couldn't tell them apart when she ran into Nannam and Nithan on the roof, and how THAT is what Nanfah touches on when confronting Nannam - that the woman you're in love with and are choosing over me can't even tell us apart.
and then in this post @theheightofdishonor spoke about the possibility of Nanfah being haunted by "the knowledge that he's lying to Pladao like he did with Kaewta, unable to realize that it's different this time" and now I can't stop thinking about how YEAH how could he think things would play out differently between him and Pladao, but also, how could he ever think things would be different for Nannam and Nithan either?
And how much worse did it sting when Nannam never contradicted Nanfah when he brought up how Nithan wouldn't be able to tell who's who (possibly implying Nannam agreed with him), and yet Nannam still chose to pull a gun on his own brother - all for someone who, they both agree, can't even tell them apart.
and then-
Then Nithan did clock that it wasn't Nannam she was getting engaged to. Like Kaewta and Pladao, Nithan had no idea a twin existed, had no idea WHO it was in front of her, but she was certain enough that it wasn't Nannam that she readily gave up the ruse because she refused to get engaged to someone else. Nithan knew Nannam well enough to identify him correctly.
How was this any different from the situations with Kaewta and Pladao? Why couldn't the ones Nanfah fell in love with distinguish between the twins?
and finally, I'm thinking about: "everything seems so easy for Nam".
(that "finally" is a lie because I am also thinking about how, in the same confrontation, Nanfah asks Nannam if he really thinks Fah would've led a woman to kill herself. Until now, Nanfah has had other people not recognise him, but does even Nannam not know him anymore? Does his own twin really think that about him?)

the way fans deny that bbra3 is way more advantagous for gar than it is for raven is really strange, raven's character hasnt been really used well since the 80s and a little bit of the 90s but it was derailed as soon as she dated gar and DC made it their mission to keep the synergy between the cartoon and raven in the comics after that no authour has tried to revive NTT raven other than marv wolman and maybe geoff in the later writings but its completely gone after that, the codependency of the couple is destroying their characters
LITERALLY. when I've argued with fans of that ship the most common response I've gotten is "don't you want Raven to be happy?" like no, this is not happiness, this is her being attached at the hip to a guy who does nothing for her in universe or out of it. i hope jakey dies

My life advice is that you don't have to have a succinct and intellectually worded argument to counter every shitbag jacking off in your notes/asks/etc. They literally can't get smarter no matter how hard you try so you have full permission to troll them or tell them to get cucked or joke about fucking their mom. It is always morally correct to obliterate haters in the most degrading ways possible

This part of the editorial from 2099 (pic sourced from this post) is so interesting to me because i don’t even think the idea of Miguel having these kinds of flaws is uninteresting or impossible, but I just personally would never have come to this conclusion just based on the text.
Like, when I personally look at how Miguel and Dana interact, I don’t see any indication that he emotionally condescends to having a relationship with her, when you’d think this strain of elitism should shine through in some part of their relationship at least initially in his arc.
I don’t look at Xina and Miguel’s interactions and interpret any sense him feeling threatened by her intelligence (even if we're just talking purely pre-spidermanning), when you’d think an element of that would be present, even in a flashback. He was a callous dickhead about the cheating explanation, but that alone without some corresponding behaviour to how he speaks to/treats Dana, even just as a flashback, just doesn’t offer the bridging piece to displaying what the authorial intent apparently was, at least for me.
Also, and by god we always come back to Dana’s writing being so damn lazy, but if Miguel - even if only at first - sought Dana out due to the emotional convenience she provided, what has prompted enough change that he is willing to bear and forgive actions like her seeking out the company of the man who drugged him when she wants to needle Miguel.
ALSO. PETER DAVID I AM SPEAKING DIRECTLY INTO YOUR EAR RN. ITS VERY SILLY TO ME TO POINT OUT THE MISOGYNISTIC STREAK INTENDED IN MIGUEL’S ACTIONS HERE BUT THEN LITERALLY JUST NOT BOTHER TO MAKE THE WOMAN THIS IS ABOUT MAKE LIKE. SENSE WHEN YOU WROTE HER. OFFER NO EXPLORATION INTO WHAT HER ACTIONS SPEAK TO IN HER PERSON AND DELVE INTO WHAT CONTRADICTORY ACTS MIGHT TELL US ABOUT HER.
#'a component to miguel's cheating is misogynistic thinking' AND IS THE MISOGYNISTIC THINKING IN THE ROOM WITH US NOW#idk idk...i genuinely have no issue with grappling w this as a character flaw of his i just would never have come to this conclusion on my#own PURELY from how he treated dana and xina. absolute asshole move w how he spoke of the cheating intially to xina#but that alone just makes him an asshole. not someone who felt threatened by her intelligence and THATS the piece that i dont personally se#in the text.#not to mention. the way dana and miguel's relationship is tonally depicted just. speaks of some lvl of sincerity to me. miguel isn't an#overly physically affectionate person and the times he does display that are really interesting (holding Gabriel when the abuse was going o#holding Xina when she blamed herself for Dana's death etc etc)#and then you have the way he holds Dana when he accidentally hits her while hallucinating from the rapture. he calls her lover and honey.#they cuddle in the bath that one time together. he recognises he hasnt been spending enough time w her and went to invite her out because o#it. and yeah. some of these we can absolutely chalk up to the character development hes having at the same time due to spidermanning but#even BEFORE that its like. it feels tonally dissonant to even try read Dana's actions at face value because the narrative doesnt CARE#about them making sense as part of a coherent whole person who thinks and rationalises actions to achieve a certain outcome or satisfy a#desire. it doesnt CARE enough to give her that sadly and so youre just left like. what does this relationship mean to these two characters?#for one party in particular i genuinely have no idea. and i dont know what to infer is the reason for a change from the mentality outlined#as authorial intent. because i didnt get that impression in the first place.#tunes talks 2099#tunes talks critical#long post
