Shoutout to the forgotten detail that ruined my week (normal behaviour).
It was all your fault, stupid scabbard: it was for you that I made a separate layer instead of sticking to my tried and trusted monolayer base-sketch.

Astodrimer sodium nasal spray forms a barrier to SARS-CoV-2 in vitro and preserves normal mucociliary function in human nasal epithelium - Published Sept 11, 2024
While nasal sprays cannot stop you from inhaling covid particles, studies have shown blocking nasal infections stops or slows neural and brain infection, something showing to be one of the main causes of long covid. If you can access anti-viral nasal sprays, they are a worthwhile addition to your covid protection suite.
COVID-19 remains a severe condition for many including immunocompromised individuals. There remains a need for effective measures against this and other respiratory infections, which transmit via virus-laden droplets that reach the nasal or oral mucosae. Nasal sprays offer potential protection against viruses. Such formulations should preserve normal nasal mucociliary function. The antiviral barrier efficacy and effects on mucociliary function of astodrimer sodium nasal spray (AS-NS) were evaluated and compared with other available nasal sprays—low pH hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC-NS), iota-carrageenan (Carr-NS), nitric oxide (NO-NS), and povidone iodine (PI-NS). Assays simulated clinical conditions. Antiviral barrier function and cell viability were assessed in airway cell monolayers, while a model of fully differentiated human nasal epithelium (MucilAir™) was utilized to evaluate tissue integrity, cytotoxicity, cilia beating frequency, and mucociliary clearance. AS-NS reduced infectious virus in cell monolayers and demonstrated a benign cytotoxicity profile. In human nasal epithelium ex vivo, AS-NS had no impact on mucociliary function (cilia beating nor mucociliary clearance). Carr-NS, HPMC-NS, NO-NS and PI-NS demonstrated limited antiviral effects, while HPMC-NS caused inhibition of mucociliary function. Astodrimer sodium nasal spray demonstrates an acceptable nonclinical efficacy and safety profile as a barrier nasal spray against respiratory viral infection in the nasal cavity.

Strong magnetic second harmonic generation effect discovered in two-dimensional CrPS₄ monolayer
A research team led by Professor Sheng Zhigao at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has, for the first time, observed the strong nonlinear magnetic second harmonic generation (MSHG) induced by the ferromagnetic order in monolayer CrPS4, with the help of the Steady High Magnetic Field Facility. The results have been published in Advanced Optical Materials. Second harmonic generation (SHG) is a nonlinear optical effect sensitive to symmetry breaking in materials. SHG was first seen in crystals with broken symmetry (i type), and also occurs in magnetic systems (c type), though it is much weaker. This limits its use in optical devices. Magnetic two-dimensional van der Waals materials, gaining attention for their unique properties, still have unexplored nonlinear optical properties, particularly the link between SHG and magnetic order, which limits their potential in optoelectronics.

A Part 2 to this
Tumblr media
A tenday later, he still hasn't convinced Tav to visit the House of Hope to celebrate his...unexpected acquisition of the Crown. He's tried all his usual tactics; appearing in their room in the Elfsong Tavern, taking up residence at Devil's Den in Sharess' Caress hoping they might stop by, sending gifts of formalwear, sending Korilla - they always smile brightly (yet vacantly, he notes) and claim to be 'busy'.
Busy with what, exactly? What could be more important, more appealing, more worthy of one's time than the attention of a devil? A soon-to-be Archdevil no less. It is all so vexatious. Raphael feels the familiar throb of a headache intruding on his good humour, if he can call it that.
He should not be spending his valuable time on this doltish mortal. But they have summoned a pervasive itch that just will not be scratched. How awfully infuriating.
Yes, overall, he's happy. He has his prize. But there are other emotions that percolate through to, well, cloud things a little.
He's offended at the continued rejection. Confused as to how he's been somehow bested (this admission feels repulsive but he will make it anyway) by this creature who appears to be 'two brain cells vying for third place' on legs.
And, most inexplicably, he finds he can't stop thinking about them. He simply must have them and their soul, despite their watery, monolayer intellect.
Haarlep spending most of the last few days nearly doubled over with laughter is not helping. At all.
Raphael sighs.
How in the hells did it come to this?

The ring of Natural Science is small
If you are familiar with my latest LK-99 works, you might be familiar with hypothesis that we are dealing with twisted alpha-PbO partially reduced monolayers, and an obvious candidate is, of course, trigonal metaphosphate intercalator, because orthophosphate is a hypervalent oxoanion and I don't think that it is formed in shallow vacuum at 900°C for obvious reasons (have you seen an orthonitrate anion anywhere?).
So I have been looking for a monomeric metaphosphate source, and found an incredible one:

And it is cool on its own - refluxing one local store component with another and getting a fun adduct, but it's not all!
I scrolled down the article by my colleague from Kyiv-94 Romanenko (DOI: 10.2174/1385272826666220330111824) and found fucking this:

After a weekend of listening, I think I agree with Andy that Heaven, Iowa is my favorite song. The build on that one just hits me like a punch to the chest. And to have those lyrics with that rise and fall. Just, *guttural noises* I love it so much!
That being said, most likely to have on repeat for a good 10 min is Hold Me Like a Grudge. I love that bit of Michael Jackson/Soul Punk flair, but still so very Fall Out Boy.
HOW THE HELL DOES PATRICK SING HOLD ME LIKE A GRUDGE hahaha I cannot keep up with those lyrics. I mean, this is why he's Patrick Stump and I am not lol. But YEAH.
I'm not on Twitter anymore but friends were very nicely sending me tweets of what people were saying about the album and one of them was something like, "So Fall Out Boy just dropped the best Fall Out Boy song ever written," and it was about Heaven, Iowa <3
I genuinely cannot decide my favorite song on the album, no, I lie, it's Fake Out, but, like, saying that's my favorite song on the album is like saying my favorite part of cake is in the inside and not the edge BUT IT'S ALL CAKE, RIGHT????
I loooove Heaven, Iowa, though, you're right that there's something about the build on it that's incredible. Also, Idk anything about music production but the way Patrick's voice sounds both times he sings "6am, Mulholland Drive, Moonlight Sonata and I," like, kills me??? Idk.
I also love I Am My Own Muse, I keep going back to that one, too. And So Much (for) Stardust, my favorite couplet on the entire album might be "I used to be a real go-getter / i used to think it'd all get better," like, by Pete's usual standards, it's super-straightforward and monolayered but something about the way Patrick sings it just makes my heart squeeze every single time, it is such a MOOD. (Actually, second-favorite couplet is also in that song: "I think that I've been going through it / and I've been putting your name to it." UGH.)
For every single song, Patrick takes Pete's words and, like, multiplies their impact times a million? Which he's always kind of done, but he outdoes himself on this album, the melodies he's crafting for them just raise the ante on them.

Caco-2 Permeability Assay
In the development of small molecule drugs, it is necessary to evaluate the bioavailability of the compound as early as possible, so as to lay the foundation for subsequent development. In addition to using experimental animals to evaluate bioavailability, various in vitro analysis methods have been developed to evaluate the ability of compounds to penetrate the intestinal wall. These in vitro experiments are not only lower in cost but also higher in throughput and shorter experimental time. Among them, Caco-2 monolayer cell permeability analysis assay has become one of the standards in vitro methods.
CaCO-2 cells are derived from human colon cancer and have the typical characteristics of intestinal epithelial cells, such as the formation of a polarized monolayer columnar epithelium, and densely differentiated microvilli on the top surface of the cells neatly arranged to form a striated border and intercellular connection.
The determination of Caco-2 cell permeability not only helps to determine intestinal permeability but also can identify specific transporters or efflux proteins and intestinal phase II drug-metabolizing enzymes. Therefore, this Caco-2 permeability assay provides valuable information for drug development in an effective and reproducible manner, which is not available in non-biological models, and even in many other biological models.
The Efflux Ratio can be calculated by measuring the transport from A-B and B-A in two different directions, so as to determine whether a molecule has active efflux.

Calculating the number of oranges that can be plucked from a fruit stand before it collapses
A small team of physicists and mechanical engineers from Universidad de Antofagasta, Universidad Autónoma de Chile and Universidad de O'Higgins, all in Chile, has found a way to find the stability points of granularly arranged monolayers in a single pile with tilted slopes. In their study, published in the journal Physical Review E, the group used computer simulations to model spheres, such as oranges, stacked with varying slope edges to discover the point at which the pile will collapse when one or more of the spheres are removed from an edge. Many grocery stores display fruit for sale by assembling piles aimed at showing off their deliciousness. Such piles tend to have sloped edges, giving an overall image of instability—unwary shoppers who grab a single orange from the wrong part of the pile may set off a collapse with fruit rolling off the shelf and onto the floor. In this new effort, the research team found the tipping points of such piles.

Hi-Tech Inks at Elite Mumbai
Tumblr media
At this year’s ElitePlus, which will be held in Mumbai from 30 September to 1 October, Hi-Tech Inks, a market leader in liquid inks, is a Gold Sponsor. The company says its focus at the show will be to continue learning from success stories shared by industry leaders and identify the best practices.
“We would like to stay informed about regulatory changes or industry standards that may impact our work. We hope to gauge the current market dynamics, consumer behavior, industry challenges, and competitive landscape further. We look forward to opportunities to collaborate with other companies, researchers, or industry groups and strengthen relationships with suppliers even look for cross-industry collaborations,” Vipin Chaudhry, director, Hi-Tech Inks told Packaging South Asia.
Tumblr media
The company feels the transition from MLPs to monolayer or mono polymer-based packaging structures is a significant trend in the packaging industry, driven by the need for more sustainable and recyclable materials.
As far as inks are concerned, the company says it has been actively promoting ink systems that are suitable for multiple substrates and high-barrier coatings. This reduces the need for different ink systems for different substrates and at the same time is close to the desired barrier properties.
Talking about technology in an era of artificial intelligence, Chaudhry feels AI can be used to monitor and analyze processes in real time and identify defects or inconsistencies. Machine learning algorithms can learn from historical data to predict and prevent potential issues.
Hi-Tech Inks is in the early stages of developing database algorithms to manage and understand data, ensuring quick retrieval, storage, and management across various databases, which will help in routine jobs such as job planning, query optimization, logistical planning, etc.
Coming back to ElitePlus, the company expects to hear from leading experts, researchers, and professionals in the field who can provide cutting-edge insights and share the latest developments in packaging.
“We anticipate discussions on current trends, challenges, and advancements relevant to the topic. Most importantly, we look for actionable insights, new methodologies, and practical solutions that can be applied in our current work or research. We cherish the opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals, exchange ideas, and establish professional relationships needed for community building,” Chaudhry said.
