Thanks so much for your support.  Sadly, I hadn't realized that Jaison’s Department Store in McKeesport, Pennsylvania was demolished  in January, 2022. Founded in 1926 by the Balter family, Jaison’s was a high-end clothing store that eventually grew to include locations in Braddock, Greengate Mall, Monroeville Mall, South Hills Village Mall, Southland Shopping Center, and  Century III Mall. Jaison’s was one of the anchors of the Downtown McKeesport business district, but it went into decline following layoffs at U.S. Steel’s National Works, and the plant’s eventual closure. The McKeesport store closed in 1985. It became a bingo hall in 1991.

About Early Sunsets Over Monroeville:

Slower than most songs on the album, “Early Sunsets Over Monroeville” was inspired by the classic George A. Romero horror film, Dawn of the Dead. In the film, the protagonists find reprieve from the zombie apocalypse by shutting themselves into Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania. Frontman and lyricist Gerard Way described it as “a sweet song about Dawn of the Dead”.

While this song focuses on being trapped in a mall during the zombie apocalypse, Way uses the song’s unique setting to explore themes that occur elsewhere on the album. Themes that feature most prominently include the struggle with losing or killing a loved one, the sense of feeling “dead” in a relationship, and the struggles that arise in a relationship in the face of a dire situation.

“Monroeville” is also notable for being one of two songs that rhythm guitarist Frank Iero contributed to on the album, along with “Honey”. Iero had joined the band after the majority of the album was already written. In their documentary Life on the Murder Scene, lead guitarist Ray Toro said of Iero’s role on the song, “He just plays some great, great parts. A lot of the melody that he plays during the verses and the choruses is just absolutely beautiful and I think really makes those songs work.” Iero would go on to contribute to the entirety of MCR’s future albums.

It breaks my heart to announce that I just discovered that Power Rangers actor and martial artist Jason David Frank has died today. 😔😢😭

Jason was best known for playing Tommy Oliver, the Green and White Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Red Zeo and Turbo Rangers on Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Turbo, respectively, and the Black Dino Ranger on Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Having grown up as a huge fan of the original series, which was Mighty Morphin, Tommy was my favorite male ranger, and Jason was my favorite martial artist and one of my heroes. 😉

In 2017, I was given the opportunity to meet him when he came to the Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, which is less than an hour where I live. Needless to say, meeting my favorite ranger and martial artist was one of the highlights of my life. We took some selfies, a photo op, and he autographed all sorts of his pictures that I bought at the convention.

Later that year, I returned to the con to meet his co-star, Amy Jo Johnson, who played Kim the Pink Ranger, my favorite female ranger, on Mighty Morphin. With her, I did all the things I did with Jason, making the year an unforgettable one for me. 😁😄😊

In 2018, Jason came back to Monroeville, along with his youngest daughter, Jenna, in attendance. I didn’t want to miss out on another chance to see him again since I knew I might never have another easy chance to do so, so it was wonderful to see him again and get more selfies and autographs with him. And it was awesome to meet Jenna, too. 😉👍🏻

So being such a huge fan of Jason and his character, to hear the news this afternoon that he has died at 49 has come as a great shock, and I’m feeling a great deal of grief, too. 😭😭😭 Yes, we all feel sad when a famous celebrity we like has died, but maybe when you have had the chance to meet them in person (even if it’s brief and at something like a convention), the devastation you feel is even more obvious. So again, I am very crushed about Jason’s passing, being that he was such an important role model for me, but I still can only be so thankful that I had two separate opportunities to meet him. 😢😄

R.I.P. Jason David Frank AKA JDF (Tommy Oliver). 😢😭 Meeting you twice has been among of the best days of my life, and I’ll never forget them. 🙏🏻😊

The Courage Tour, organized by Trump-promoting dominionists Lance Wallnau and Mario Murillo, and co-sponsored by the MAGA movement organization America First Policy Institute, rolls into Pennsylvania this week on its tour of 19 swing counties that could decide the outcome of the presidential election. The event will be held Friday night and all day Saturday in Monroeville, which is located east of Pittsburgh.

Scholar Matthew Taylor, who attended a Wisconsin stop, called the tour “the most targeted and tactical voter mobilization effort done by Christian nationalists ever,” adding that “they’re doing it hand in glove in many ways with the Trump campaign and with the apparatus of the Trump campaign through an organization like AFPI.” Indeed, the Courage Tour exemplifies the de facto merger between the MAGA movement and dominionist Christian nationalists. AFPI, a “think tank” organized by and filled with former Trump administration officials, is an active participant in Project 2025, another example of the shared authoritarian goals of Trumpworld and the Christian nationalists who helped put Trump in power in 2016 as part of their long-term plan to take “dominion” over every sphere of influence in society. Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk has also supported the tour.

In 2023, AFPI President Brooke Rollins, a former Trump adviser who had been preparing his second-term agenda before he lost the 2020 election, held an America First Summit where she discussed AFPI’s Vision 2025, a preview of Project 2025’s plans for the aggressive use of government power to promote the far-right agenda. Rollins happily admitted that their “ideologically revolutionary” goal is to “seize control of the administrative state” as part of “an America First confrontation against anti-conservative institutions.”  That echoed language used by the Heritage Foundation when it launched Project 2025 as a plan for the MAGA movement to “take the reins of government.”

The Courage Tour’s combination of tent revival-style religious rallies with political mobilization reflects the beliefs of New Apostolic Reformation figures like Wallnau and Murillo that spiritual revival will lead to political transformation of the country to bring it into alignment with their particular biblical worldview. Wallnau has said the tour’s purpose is to break “demonic strongholds” that have supposedly kept Republicans from winning elections, and to prepare Christians to rule and reign after Christ’s return by training them to “occupy territory now.” In other words, the Courage Tour is an example of NAR “spiritual warfare” in pursuit of earthly power—for Trump and for themselves.
