One Piece Chapter 1117 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
The breaks always feel long but they always end
because One Piece is back! Which means we have to see more of Vegapunk's transmission and the Straw Hats' escape
Let's not linger on it, let's see what we have!
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too!
Yamato is still yet to start his voyage, this time stopping by Nekomamushi and Hyou's neck of the woods
Seems Neko is living among the Yakuza, which to be fair does fit his style
The reveal last chapter that the Roger pirates knew about the world sinking causes some to wonder if the One Piece is underwater
Or at the least, great treasure hidden at the bottom of the sea
Seems the Polar Tang wasn't the only known ship able to dive underwater, but they're expensive
Also made myself sad because we lost the Polar Tang...and the Victoria Punk
EDIT: I didn't even see it the first time but the Krieg Pirates are there, you see Pearl even more decked out, Krieg has a mane and GIN! HE'S ALIVE!
There are however 2 other ships that know how to dive, an alliance of Romance Chasers
Montblanc Cricket and the Saruyama Alliance react to the news, and consider doing some more diving to investigate a new romance
Cricket also notes how it was before Noland's time, so it would be uncharted territory, just regulate yourself so you don't get the bends again
In the G-5, the SWORD agents lick their wounds
Hibari is defrosted, and Koby is struggling to process everything
Kujaku notes how a captain is recovering, but I'm not sure who that is, Koby's the only known SWORD captain and he's in the panel, plus they use male pronouns so it can't be Tashigi
Koby looks to Grus about the shitstorm about to go down, which Grus is also concerned about, Kujaku however relishes a chance to step up
X DRAKE'S ALIVE
He's out of Wano and in a recovery bed, what about Hawkins? Did he make it?
Tashigi's also making a call to Smoker
Missed ya Smokey, driving all badass across water with your motorbike, no need to guess who you learned that from
Vegapunk continues his message, noting that anything else would be speculation so he won't delve deeper - much to audience chagrin
Back to the Labophase and the barrier has been lifted by Stussy
Nami and Chopper notice that the clouds have also stopped moving, but Usopp assures that they can make it to the sea
Lilith however notes the ships they'd be landing on, some of them friendlies as well
Brook charges up the Coup de Burst so it's all waiting on Jinbe and Zoro
Speaking of whom, they are nearly there, but they're on the tail of something bigger: V. Nusjuro
Nami thinks Zoro and Jinbe ended up getting distracted and chasing a monster, but I would assume Zoro (since Nami wouldn't take that tone with Jinbe as often I don't think) notes that they're going the same direction
Whoever it is, they note the Gorosei's 'special presence'
Usopp, Chopper and Lilith go into an eye pop as the Gorosei prepares to bisect the Sunny
Jinbe and Zoro are doing the Fastball Special!
V. Nusjuro blocks Zoro's Nitoryu, though the clash isn't a simple swat away
Zoro confirms what we've theorized with V. Nusjuro having the final and most powerful Kitetsu blade, Shodai Kitetsu
The impact sends both swordsmen being knocked back, and the twitter fans go wild
Jinbe catches Zoro, as Zoro tells Nami to launch the ship anyway, intending to latch on before it flies away
With Sanji's group, he, Bonney, Atlas and Franky are still waiting for Luffy, but they're also under heavy fire
Comms are down, but Luffy's voice is unmistakable
Dorry and Brogy also call on Oimo and Kashii to get the ship ready, sending the legendary Giant Warrior Pirates into action
Out they come taking on a warship each by themselves, the one in the lower middle looks like he's about to eat a dude
Bluegrass isn't some easy shmoe though, using a commandeered Weaponized Sea Beast to attack and encouraging the marines to step up
The laser blast from the sea beast blows a hole in the longboat, and then Kashii is battered by Doll's Rock n' Roll Blaster (which seems to be a Gatling-esque series of punches)
The marines much like they do with Hina fawn over Doll when she gets violent, wonder if she trained under Garp with such fisticuffs?
The felling of Kashii has motivated the marines to not back down from the giants either
Luffy meanwhile is curious where Warcury went, since he's no longer on their tail, but the giant captains are too relieved to wonder about that
Alas, all but V. Nusjuro surround the Iron Giant, realising that it's the same one that attacked Marejois
Of course this is where Vegapunk is about to deliver a closing juicy statement
'To those who carry the letter 'D.' in your name' !!!???
Dragon with the classic ellipsis, Sabo thinks of his brothers, Koby thinks of Luffy and Garp, Blackbeard interest piqued, and Bepo calls out to his captain - so Law is very much alive
'Among you there is mo-' and the giant is knocked down, along with the transmission
And a collective wail among the audiences of the world in and out of the manga is heard
Morgans, Vivi and Wapol react to the cut off, as the Gorosei and York breathe a sigh of relief that the transmission is over.
Well god damn
We expected the blueball and yet it still sucked to be blue balled XD Unless we aren't that is. Pride comes before the fall maybe?
I would say it's 70/30 on the side of the Gorosei succeeding, we don't need to know any more at this stage right now - but I do blame the 10 minute delay for picture. But what could 'mo-' - the chapter's title - mean? What more was it. Among you there is mo-what? Someone with the D. has something, and it's important.
But it does look like we're reaching the final escape from Egghead. I hope Sentomaru made it out, X Drake can survive and leave Wano after all. There are still some fights going on among the Giants and the Marines, plus we don't know how the CP0 lot will resolve itself, but we tend to take for granted just how insanely jam-packed Egghead has been, and Elbaf is next!
Glad Zoro got a little bit more cred back for matching V. Nusjuro, plus I liked it was a fastball special it's just fun when groups fight in sync with each other. Also kinda glad we put some respect on Bluegrass and Doll, shows there are levels to vice admirals outside of just Garp.
All the cameos were good too, would've liked to have seen Tashigi and Bogard again but happy to see Smoker and Cricket was a nice surprise.
Unless Vegapunk has one last trick up his sleeve, it's time to get off this island.

There's no deeper purpose to this one, I just liked it. While so many are geeking out over Gin & Krieg, which is cool, love love love seeing Cricket and the Saruyama Alliance with the best reaction to finding out the world sea level rise so much. Let's just dive down there boys!

The most memorable thing about Skypiea Arc to me was Montblanc Cricket and his goal to prove or disprove of his ancestor's claim.
Becuase at first it looks like he wants to restore his family's good name, but then, as he talks about Norland and all the things he suffered because of the silly story, you easily realize that he doesn't give a shit about his family's honor. Cricket actually has personal grudge against his ancestor and openly says that by looking for the Golden Mountain he waged a war against Norland.
Back in a day, I found it interesting.

One Piece — "I ain't gonna laugh at ya anymore."
From Volume 71 - Chapter 706 / Season 11 Episode 635. Luffy's disguise at the Corrida Colosseum has been compromised! An old face he pummeled two years ago recognized him from a mile away. But it seems he's a changed man. He's found that Luffy's dreams aren't so crazy, and the world is full of things you can't even imagine. This doesn't mean they're friends, Bellamy is seeking Doflamingo's approval, making them enemies. But they have a newfound respect for each other.

So I'm back again, I'm taking my time right now reading the manga, not because I'm starting to grow tired of it. It's because I'm now in the Marine Ford War Arc.
We know this arc was great and it also triggers our depression 😰.
To cope up with it I'm checking for the screenshots that I have taken and have myself a Zorobin therapy.
So I've actually noticed a somewhat connection between Zoro and Robin. I realized that we can compare the two of them to 'start & end of a bridge'.
For example with this scene in the manga:
Tumblr media
The Bell was actually discovered by Robin when she actually read the inscription she found in Shandora. Enel while observing Robin realizes that she could read those words.
Then at that scene above Enel yelled that he was going to take the Bell. While Robin was explaining the location of the Bell Zoro was reminded of what Luffy said to them.
Tumblr media
Then they saw a leaf fall down with Nami instructions to cut the stalks. Zoro proceeded with the task but he only cut down one of it.
Tumblr media
We will also see here in this scene that Wiper disagrees with ringing the bell as this is their will or their duty. As Usopp continued the attack on the stalk, Robin told Wiper the tale of Montblanc Noland.
Tumblr media
Please pay attention to this scene as it is very important.
Tumblr media
Robin then told him the reason why Luffy is insisting on ringing the bell at a cost of his life. She also told him the name of diamond-ossan.
Which gave the push so that Wiper can destroy the other stalk. As he might have believed that this is the will of Kalgara.
Tumblr media
As I said before Zoro and Robin are like the start & the end of the bridge right? Then that makes Luffy crossing that bridge.
For Luffy ringing the bell would make Cricket-san know that the city of gold is actually at the skies, but it also has a deeper weight than that. As ringing the bell also signifies the reunion of friends 😭.
Tumblr media
We know that Cricket-san is Noland's descendant and Wiper is Calgara's descendant.
Calgara also promised that when Noland will come back to Shandora they're going to ring the bell. Noland through his descendants fulfill his promise of returning the only one left is for Calgara to fullfill his.
Tumblr media
Wiper at this scene is in a bad shape, using the reject dial took a toll on his body (he's also on the verge of death).
Zoro said he doesn't understand what Wiper's goal.
Zoro added that he's an honorable warrior (the reason he's saying this is because he heard Montblanc Noland's name and the fulfillment of a promise.)
It would have been sad if Kalgara's descendant would have died while Noland's descendant lived. It would be a tragedy.
Robin discovers the bell and the location, which helps Luffy to decide to ring the bell to notify Cricket-san. Zoro partially made possible by cutting half of the stalk.
Robin told Wiper about Montblanc Noland & Cricket. Making Wiper helps them in bringing down the stalk indirectly saving Wiper as well. Zoro upon hearing what Wiper said decided to help him live by making Chopper tend to his wound.
So that's it there are also circumstances like this one but. I think this is very long already so I'll end it here.
As for the freebies:
Here I offer an inquisitive Zoro.
Tumblr media
(admit it you like hearing her talk Zoro 🥹)

One Piece Live Action (5 Season Projection)
Now that I've seen up to the time skip in One Piece, here are my projections for how the seasons will be divided out. (JR = Jolly Roger title)

Alvida's ship to the Marine Base (JR: Monkey D. Luffy)
Buggy's Circus (JR: Buggy the Clown)
Part 1 of Syrup Village (JR: Usopp)
Part 2 of Syrup Village (JR: Roronoa Zoro)
Part 1 of Baratie (JR: Chef Zeff)
Part 2 of Baratie (JR: Vinsmoke Sanji)
Part 1 of Arlong Park (JR: Nami)
Part 2 of Arlong Park (JR: Arlong)
Season 2 (Alabasta) - adding Chopper, Robin, Vivi, Smoker, and Crocodile.
Loguetown to Reverse Mountain (JR: Smoker)
Whiskey Peak (JR: Igaram)
Part 1 of Drum Kingdom (JR: Wapol)
Part 2 of Drum Kingdom (JR: Tony Tony Chopper)
Part 1 of Alabasta (JR: Portgas D. Ace)
Part 2 of Alabasta (JR: Crocodile)
Part 3 of Alabasta (JR: Nefertari Vivi)
Part 4 of Alabasta (JR: Nico Robin)
*The giants of Elbaf would have a small cameo similar to Don Krieg. Mr. 3 would have a similar small appearance, but might appear later in the finale.
Season 3 (Nico Robin) - adding Franky and Admiral Aokiji.
Jaya to the skyward launch (JR: Montblanc Cricket)
Part 1 of Skypeia (JR: Conis)
Part 2 of Skypeia (JR: Gan Fall)
Part 3 of Skypeia (JR: Enel)

Part 2 of Water 7 (JR: Franky)
The train to Enies Lobby (JR: Sogeking)
Part 2 of Enies Lobby (JR: Rob Lucci)
*Foxy would have a small cameo similar to Don Krieg and the giants.
Season 4 (Approaching the Red Line) - adding Brook and possibly Kuma.
Part 1 of Thriller Bark (JR: Brook)
Part 2 of Thriller Bark (JR: Dr. Hogback)
Part 3 of Thriller Bark (JR: Gecko Moria)
Part 4 of Thriller Bark (JR: Bartholomew Kuma)
Part 1 of Sabaody (JR: Hatchan)
Part 2 of Sabaody (JR: Silvers Rayleigh)
Part 1 of Amazon Lily (JR: Margaret)
Part 2 of Amazon Lily (JR: Boa Hancock)
*Duval and the Flying Fish Riders would likely be relegated to a small cameo as well.
Season Five (The Execution of Ace) - adding Bon Clay, Galdino, Ivankov, Jinbe, Ace, Blackbeard, and Whitebeard.
Part 1 of Impel Down (JR: Bon Clay)
Part 2 of Impel Down (JR: Warden Magellan)
Part 3 of Impel Down (JR: Emporio Ivankov)
Part 4 of Impel Down (JR: Marshall D. Teach)
Part 1 of Marineford (JR: Edward Newgate)
Part 2 of Marineford (JR: Jinbe)
Part 3 of Marineford (JR: Admiral Akainu)
Escape from Marineford and aftermath (JR: ASL)
That's as far as I've gone up to this point. We will see what the future holds. Obviously, Season One ended where it did. Season Two is most assuredly going to cover Alabasta as a whole. Enies Lobby is a perfect finale for season three, and Skypeia helps to build a relationship between Robin and the crew before Water Seven. Impel Down and Marineford are dense enough to fill their own season, meaning everything leading up to those two can act as a season as well.
What do you think? Am I way off, or do you agree?

Thinking about Montblanc Cricket's MAROON tattoo... seems to refer both to his head chestnut and his being abandoned on Jaya by his former crew. The reference to fugitive slaves is tantalizing but doesn't seem to slot into the proceedings in any way I can think of.

So I (finally) finished Skypeia! And I have some thoughts about it.
Yes, the common complaint that it's too drawn out is not only true, but it's like 100,000,000,000% true - and the sad part is the chaff that really weakens the experience of the arc as a whole is very obvious and easy to find. My other complaint is that I wish more of the conflict had taken place in Angel Island/the cloud city in general, Upper Yard isn't the most visually unique places in the series and it would've been neat to see some urban combat and subterfuge among the Skypeians in the city
With all that being said, I liked a lot about it. I loved the setup on Jaya in Mock Town; I loved Cricket and his dream and the Montblanc history; I loved the juxtaposition of Luffy/Blackbeard and Bellamy. I love that Luffy and Blackbeard get one another! That they're both dreamers that want to achieve grand things and that that is what sets them apart from other people, from people like Bellamy. Even though they possess different moral compasses, they're united in the fact that they follow their heart, take risks, and will not settle for less than their wildest dreams. I wish Eneru had been present earlier in the Sky Island portion, the priests were only entertaining for so long - Ohm was the most memorable of them, though the rest all had quirks and moments that I found memorable and their fights were overall enjoyable. But fuck man when Eneru pops onto the scene it's really hard to give a shit about his priests and soldiers.
And speaking of Eneru, FUCK is he terrifying. He's a lot more simplistic in his goals than Crocodile or even Arlong, he wants to destroy things seemingly just for destruction’s same - they're all beneath him, a man so powerful he's convinced himself that he’s a god, thus they don't really need to exist. But outside of sloppier motivations and a less interesting plan, every scene with him was tense and terrifying - nobody could touch him! Nobody could resist his assault, nobody could object to his whims, and thus he didn't even need to be charismatic - why bother with charm when he can just kill you and your whole family with barely any effort? Every fight with him I sat there with bated breath, terrified to see who he'd kill next and hope against hope that someone, somehow would find a weakness or vulnerability to exploit. And they never did! Nobody could beat Eneru but Luffy, imbuing the arc with this theme of destiny, of fate and belief, the strawhats had to go to Sky island because it's on the path to Raftel, but they also had to go because nobody but Luffy - "Eneru's Total Opposite" - could topple this force of violent oppression. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the all too iconic moments of Luffy throwing Eneru off his high horse, of being unaffected by his electricity, by socking him in the gut, by beating him almost to death with his last gold punch. I live to see this figures of power, these oppressive and violent forces that know they're better than you, not only laid low but humiliated. But goddamn, it's going to be hard for anyone ever to match Eneru in terms of sheer power - just the strength of his logia alone was enough to threaten an entire civilization, multiple even. Other folks I know have said that though there are scarier and more threatening villains in the series, there really isn't anyone whose raw power with their devil fruit matches his.
I really loved that the protagonists of the arc were less an individual person (Vivi for Alabasta, Nami for Arlong Park, etc.) and more all of the peoples of the Sky Islands - the Skypeians, the Shandians, Noland and his descendants - it really helped reify the themes of cooperation and cohabitation, of sharing and eschewing hard boundaries and borders. Speaking of themes…
Inherited Will, The Destiny of the Age, and The Dreams of the People. As long as people continue to pursue the meaning of Freedom, these things will never cease to be!
Skypeia did such a good job carrying its themes and ideas throughout its plot. You start right out the gate on Jaya being told that this arc is about dreams, about inherited will and the passage of time, about grand romantic ideas. And you get that from start to finish. Alabasta as a whole was stronger than Skypeia, but I don't know if anything in the series has affected me as much as Noland, Calgara, and the bell - the fucking bell. The bell broke my heart. The unspoken promise between these two soulmates that neither could rest until they knew the other was well, that they would always await one another with arms open, through misunderstandings and unforeseen changes, that the strongest of bonds can survive even death. Wyper breaking down in tears when he found out that the strawhats were friends with Montblanc Cricket - that they wanted to ring the bell specifically so he would know the truth of the tale; that he would receive the reassurance that Noland never got. I saw that moment on my lunchbreak yesterday and I broke down sobbing.
All things considered I’d call Skypeia a successful arc - far from perfect, but it’s highs were very high and once it got going it was an exceptionally good time. 7 out of 10. I’m really excited to dive into the Waters Seven/Enies Lobby and to experience a more grounded story that touches on the politics and struggles of the world of the blue sea, but part of me will miss the sky islands and it’s existence as a microcosm within the One Piece world.

Doing a reread of Jaya and it's really neat seeing a lot of the current arc reflecting aspects of it.
Tumblr media
Luffy's status and claims lulling Kizaru into a fight here, the same having happened with Bellamy on Jaya.
Tumblr media
Bellamy & Kizaru both being devil fruit users who bound from building to building is just fun, as is the sky island ground. Should they get into a fight, think Luffy will one hit KO Kizaru, same as he did Bellamy?
Then there is the aspect of Jaya/Egghead both being arcs after one where there was a red herring for the next crew member, Vivi for Robin and Yama for... someone with the skills of a Quartermaster. In this case, Kiku is the "Robin" of the dynamic, Robin and Kiku both being quiet and understated during Alabasta/Wano. And Kiku has displayed she has many of the skills of a Quartermaster, while Luffy was watching. Then Yams is the "Vivi." Though Yams has a much shallower and less interesting connection to the crew than Vivi or Kiku do.
Idea being that Kiku is possibly hiding away on the Sunny, unnoticed as she quietly gathers info the crew needs to progress on their journey, much as she is the one who learned the info that would allow the Alliance to pull off a sneaky surprise attack on the night of the Fire Festival. Kiku being in the Sunny, perhaps wire tapping the enemy with a black transponder snail, would be similar to Robin's actions, gathering info off-panel for part of Jaya, then later returning having learned of Montblanc Cricket being able to help them.
The crew already have the coordinates to their next destination saved on their log pose from Wano, Elbaf, much as they did upon arriving at Jaya, the log pose back then pointing to Skypiea since since soon after leaving Alabasta.
Once Kizaru is dealt with, the info which will allow the SHs to manipulate the Elder and help them escape Egghead is already known to readers, though not to the SHs.
Tumblr media
Question is, how do they learn it? I'm curious to see how everything plays out.
