my own private idaho is actually a movie about how so many things can change so quickly, how someone who you thought would be in your life forever could grow so distant over just a few days. the movie has SO many scenes of mike and scott being happy together in the first half and even beyond that, scenes where they just burst out into laughter or cause chaos and just spend time together; the only reason the movie is sad is because the ending casts a shadow of impermanence over the rest of the story. it’s like watching home videos of good memories from a distant past, or looking through old photographs of a time where things felt ok. the movie is actually about the overwhelming nothingness of life, there’s not really an “ending” in the real world that wraps stories up into little bows; things just keep going on and on. you just end up back on the road again. it’s just about the story of a few days where something big happens, even if it’s little in the scope of everything.

Ep. 03 of coffee & film is finally here - I have worked on this one for ages. Today also marks 30 years since Riv passed away, so it seemed fitting to release it at this time. 🤍
