you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

trying to heal
I have a lot of head cannon'd lore about these two.
Primarily Arthur was never a good dad, but he loved Alfred, he just had no idea how to raise him without hurting him (absent, abusive, etc.)
From the AmeRev on. all the way to the 1940s, they never talked about what happened or how it affected them (how do you forgive your abusive parent, even when they're trying to improve? How do you forgive yourself for hurting your child?). It wasn't until the midst of the war did they begin to open up and heal. This drawing is meant to be in the 1960s.

I've been thinking about how it might be useful, if not necessarily entirely fulfilling for whatever it is that I need out of them, to ask politicians how they would define a healthy economy, as opposed to just asking them how they would try to ensure a healthy economy.
President Joe Biden took to the White House lectern Friday to tout the healthy economy – strong job creation, lowering inflation and increased workforce participation and job satisfaction. - US News, Sep. 1, 2023
And
"I think we will see a big pickup in growth. We may not see it in the winter quarter...but I’m hopeful that we’ll see it in the spring,” Larry Kudlow, head of the National Economic Council, said on Fox Business. “It’s a fundamentally healthy economy,” he said, touting the 3.5 percent unemployment rate and “tremendous wage gains.” - The Washington Post, Jan. 30, 2020
In both cases they are offering a few signs of a healthy economy, the things that are quantified and measured as indicators, like unemployment, inflation, and wages.
But... wouldn't 'the ability to buy or rent a living space, and food security, for as many people as possible' make more sense?
Yeah, low inflation is the sign of a good economy, but what is the healthy economy actually doing? The jobs being created, are they actually full time and paying a living wage?
Fuck knows how many times a person at the podium has referenced the stock market as a signifier of the economy's health, and we all know that's barely relevant to the lives of us normal people.
I guess the question I'd want to ask politicians is "if the economy's health were measured in percentage of people who are able to afford housing, food, and other essentials on a full-time job with no government assistance, is the economy actually healthy?"
Low inflation means jackshit if the minimum wage is still no inflation. Job creation means something, but not if it's so far from your home that you spend most of your paycheck commuting. 'Tremendous wage gains' don't mean much if you're looking at an average that includes the CEOs and allows their paychecks to skew the data upwards.
How many of your citizens can afford housing, groceries, and medical care on a full-time wage, without government assistance?

I will grieve myself, who I was, what I could've been, who I am, and everything in-between, before, and after before I will ever grieve another human being as much. I will never grieve somebody the way I grieve myself and no one will ever understand how I am able to grieve who I am. I will never be able to grieve another human the way I grieve a living animal for I know it will die soon and it's death will be upon me worse than my own grief as it dies but never after. I do not grieve the dead near as much as I grieve the living for I know it will leave and yet the dead has already left.

Disclaimer: this is gonna be salty
So... When people like a villain, they'll usually say "of course what they did was bad, but they're such a well written character" or similar stuff. They love the character for their design, their backstory, their arc, their fights, their abilities etc. But they'll always make sure to not defend the character's actions, because they're a villain after all, right?
Well, here's a personal experience that bothers me. And I might be biased saying this, but I'll say it with my whole heart and I'll die on this hill.
Doflamingo did nothing wrong.
Dressrosa was rightfully his.
Many people say that Doflamingo is their favorite villain. But they all agree that what he did was wrong. Well, fuck that. I will always defend him and his actions. He was the true heir to the throne. Just because his father threw that life out the window doesn't mean he had to. He never wanted to. And just because he took back what was rightfully his, people go around saying shit like "ohh he's so baaaaad". Well, fuck you and your opinion.
You wanna know what Dressrosa looked like under his reign?
And wanna know what it looked like after ThE biG hErO LuFfY sAvEd EvErYoNe?
As some of you know, I couldn't continue watching one piece after the Dressrosa arc. I developed a hatred towards Luffy that is so strong it makes me physically tense up when I see him on screen. Same goes for Law.
And in case anyone cares, in my little perfect imaginary world, none of these "canon" events ever happened. I live a happy life with - and as part of - the Donquixote family on Dressrosa. Because that's how it should've stayed. Doflamingo didn't deserve anything that happened to him.

TW: vent speaking about homophobia, etc
Sigh man, that sad moment someone you have known for 15 years, who was a good person then, starts going to church and within 2 years is now posting all about “straight pride” (like wtf does that even mean????), blatant homophobia/transphobia, and talking about how misogynistic, fuckboy, white nematode lookin ass Harrison Butker is his new hero because women are just baby incubators.
Religion is a fucking parasite, a cult, and the main reason for all of the world’s issues, and you will never change my mind on that.
Fuck whoever uses religion as an excuse to be a blatant, psychotic, piece of shit 🖕
get that shit out of here and off any of my pages, and go seek real help from a real fucking person✌️

if people are going to keep writing buck & tommy breakups so buddie can get together and tagging them with bucktommy (instead of using the freeform tags to indicate that bucktommy is a background pairing) i want at least one fic where tommy gets to be angry about it instead of completely understanding and happy
because it must suck, actually, if that happened! this guy likes you enough that he invites you to his sister's wedding, he says he's ready for something with you - and oooh, actually, psych! he gets together with his best friend shortly after and they've been in love all along and you didn't mean anything after all
