[Jeff Biege Photography] :: [at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve] :: I captured this shot of the 98.9 % full buck moon the night before last . I’ve been after this shot for years. This is not photoshop or AI. I used to think that when I would see images like this. You need two things to create an image like this , a good long lens, I used the Sony 200-600 with a 1x4 converter giving me an effective focal length of 840mm . The second and tricky part is giving yourself enough distance from the subject in the foreground. I was about two miles from this mountain top. The distance creates compression and gives the Illusion of the moon being very large. The moon topped the mountain around 11:30pm . It was still and quiet , with the exception of coyotes howling in the distance. It was on the chilly side with dry cool mountain air. The stars where bright until this moment. I was almost carried away by the mosquitoes, but it was worth every bite. Moments like this are why I’m on this trip , very grateful for my time out here!

How do you make Spice, or "Melange"? (It's not Sandworm Poop)
Spice can only be made on the planet of Arrakis, or "Dune" because the sandworms *are* the only source of it & they only exist on Arrakis.
Step 1
There is a substance called the "pre-spice mass".
Pre spice is the stage of "fungusoid wild growth" from a mixture of water & the excrement, or poop, of the "half plant-half-animal" vectors of the sandworm, called "little makers".
Biological vectors are usually arthropods (mosquitoes, ticks, flies, fleas & lice) that usually transmit infectious diseases either actively or passively.
"fungusoid" isn't a real scientific term, so I'm assuming it means "fungus" in this future world. Could also be like land-algae, bc of "half plant-half-animal" & "mass" words
Tumblr media
So again:
Water
+
poop, or "excrement", of these tiny creatures
=
pre-spice mass
Step 2
Dune reads, “a gigantic bubble of carbon dioxide" then forms deep in the sand, traveling or "heaving" upwards into a "blow".
Tumblr media
As it grows, what's in the deep sand travels up, what's on the surface travels down. This is an exchange of material.
This blow has a "whirlpool" in its center. They are very explosive & will kill most nearby living things when they do explode.
Step 3
Whatever is left at the top (the pre-spice mass), when exposed to the sun & air, then finally becomes the spice people harvest.

Day 9 - Mt. Hood through the town of Government Camp. Guy at the gas station there told me skiing was open on Mt Hood up until end of July this year!? Crazy! Anyway, that's pretty much it, made it home safely.
Thank you Jesus for your protection and the long talks along the way and getting me home safely. Thank you for the beautiful weather, not a single drop of rain the entire trip! Thank you for all of the beauty you have created for us to enjoy - ocean coasts, huge sand dunes, giant redwoods, deep canyons, pristine lakes and rivers, deserts, volcanic mountains and craters, orange barked ponderosas, vultures, eagles, bugeling elk. Thank you for the little things like only 4 mosquitos the entire trip and not running out of gas. Thanks for people I met along the way - stranger's and a friend.

Top 5 real life places you’d like to see turned into Pokémon regions
Oh boy here we go. Thank you!
In no particular order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I live in the southeastern USA and I'd love to see a region like that. Span all the way from the Atlantic to Louisiana. Maybe even Texas? Woods, farmland, swamps, plains. An area similar to the Bayou and have a city rich in culture like New Orleans. The region can be split by a river kinda like the Mississippi and have some mountains like the Appalachian. Gotta be a possum Pokemon, new deer Pokemon, fucking mosquito Pokemon. The Lizard Man would be a Mythical Pokemon (and no not the Lizardman tattooed performer fella, I'm talking THE LIZARD MAN of South Carolina infamy.) Florida is in the DLC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Aussie region. Include Tasmania and New Zealand as well maybe? Deserts and beaches and mountains and rainforests. GOTTA have a building that is as recognizable as the Sydney Opera House. GOTTA have a Great Barrier Reef. I'd wanna see a kangaroo Pokemon, a kiwi Pokemon, A THYLACINE Pokemon. Echidna and platypus ones too. Komala has a regional evolution.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Indian region would be so pretty. You'd have deserts and tropics and plains and then a mountain range like the Himalayas. Farms and fishing rivers. Gorgeous architecture and a building like the Taj Mahal. The region where Cufant and Copperajah are from! Also gotta have a new tiger Pokemon and maybe a river dolphin or a rhino.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Would loooooove an Egypt region. So much desert and countless sand dunes but of course something like the Nile river and valley with oases full of date palms and all that. So pretty. Temples and pyramids and obelisks; just so much ancient architecture but of course integrate the modern, bustling society as well. Gotta have the Suez Canal and the peninsula. The legendaries would be inspired by Egyptian mythology obviously. Like a Sphinx Pokemon! The desert in Unova is pretty much the vibe, just more large scale and more Egyptian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My final dream region is Mexico! Hot arid areas, tropical rainforests, beaches, and mountains like the Sierra Madre. The gulf! Incorporate the Chicxulub Crater into the lore of the region. Can be the same type of extinction event as the real world and that's what took out the Tyrantrum and Bastiodon and all them. Gotta have them ancient Mesoamerican temples and pyramids. Pokemon like coatls and jaguar and spider monkey Pokemon. A CHIHUAHUA POKEMON. A chupacabra Pokemon would be wild. Hawlucha would have multiple aesthetic variants.
Honorable mentions: Brazil, Greece/Italy/Mediterranean

Best places to visit in Jaisalmer
Best places to visit in Jaisalmer
An epitome of everything Rajasthani, from every postcard you’ve probably ever seen, the spectacular sandstone royal desert town of Jaisalmer is charming and mysterious all at the same time. Self-explanatory as a ‘golden city’, Jaisalmer’s fort is perched on a yellow sandstone ridge, keeping a watchful eye over the ever-spreading town beyond its walls.
Step into the fort for a vision of mediaeval prosperity that meets the 21st century in the thriving bustling township within. Havelis, Jain temples, curio shops, hotels and restaurants lie beside each other on cobbled narrow alleyways. Take a walk through the streets of old Jaisalmer for glimpses into the lives of locals, cooking or hard at work in skilled craftwork, art and sculpture. There’s something new around every corner here in Jaisalmer, from spicy food to handicrafts, so expect your walk to take longer than the distance warrants as you stop for a much-needed break at one of the rooftop cafes.
Get your taste of the local brew at one of the government-approved ‘bhang’ (hemp) shops outside the fort gates, but be prepared to get in line with a group of locals waiting in line for a glass. Head over to the pristine sand dunes for a camel tour through the barren Thar outside the city. If you’re lucky enough to be travelling in January/February every year, join in the Desert Festival revelry with dancing, folk music, camel racing and the odd turban-tying contest as well.
Walk through Jaisalmer fort
This unique living urban centre, formerly an ancient fort, is home to over 3000 people with shops, people and cows in honeycombed old houses on criss-crossing lanes. Walk past temples and shops and stop for a cup of masala chai on a rooftop restaurant for spectacular panoramic views. Perfectly shaded yellow sandstone walls take you back to a time of battles and reinforcements here.
Sunset in the Thar
The Thar is best explored aboard a 4×4, off over dunes, conquering sand hills one after the other. Get here early enough from Jaisalmer to watch the sun go down on what has to have been a spectacular day.
Lunch with Locals
Get friendly with a local family in Jaisalmer, getting to know more about their traditions and culture, as they give you a quick MasterChef session on Rajasthani food. Dishes could vary, depending on the season you’re visiting, from millet flatbread (bajre ki roti), legumes (fali) and stuffed pepper (mirchibada) to lentil-infused hard wheat rolls (daal baati). Enjoy your very own home-cooked Rajasthani meal with the family and don’t forget to take notes.
Camel Safari
Clamber onto your steed for the evening, a lumbering camel that gives you a literal description of why he’s called the ‘ship of the desert.’ Look out onto mustard fields that border villages on one side and fascinating sand dunes of the Thar on the other. Stop for a snack or two as the sun slowly goes down in the horizon.
When to travel Jaisalmer
The best time to un[travel] Rajasthan would be between September and April. Temperatures are cooler and tend to veer towards the colder side in December and January.
Summer, essentially from April is rather warm and temperatures actually go up as high as 45 degrees C in May and June. The monsoons last through to September and the weather can get rather humid here.
Pack the bag
• Light clothing and sandals with a large sun hat if you’re here in summer
• Warmer clothing and thermals if you’re here in winter
• Mosquito repellent and sunscreen
• Chargers and prescription medication
Top places to stay
• The Serai, Jaisalmer • Gorbandh Palace, Jaisalmer • Rajasthan Desert Safari Camp, Jaisalmer
Conclusion
The heart of Rajasthan the ‘Thar Desert’ also stands as a jewel in the crown of Rajasthan. It is also known as “Golden City”. Tourists are attracted by its sand dunes, landscapes and rich cultural Heritage.

Seven Unheard Methods To achieve Better Travel
In accordance with The Tough Information, no. Travel to Jap Europe could be full with no visit to Romania. Romania is fascinating. You may have there and feel his pulse, recognized as the Greek gods have been born. Will probably be uncomfortable if your stomach is full of meals as dune bashing could be very bumpy and could make some people really feel nauseous. As hoovestal-lawfirm.com will be getting in and out of the vehicle incessantly and onto the sand, open sneakers or sandals are the perfect to put on. There are particular necessary points which must be stored in mind while planning the journey. Traveling solo and visiting an unchartered territory when you've got the extra accountability to look after your kids are two different ballgames.
Protect infants lower than two months of age by using a service draped with mosquito netting with an elastic edge for a tight match. Or, we are able to use alternate methods, as journalist Seth Stevenson did: for his e-book "Grounded," he opted to wind his manner around the planet without using air travel. The “Eat Fresh” slogan was a part of Subway’s efforts to emphasize using fresh vegetables, bread and other elements to create delicious custom-made sandwiches for customers. Book your safari via an expert desert safari tour operator in Dubai. If that is your recent go to to Dubai, the following tips would enable you get pleasure from desert safari to the utmost.
There is simply a method to search out the answer: A visit to Romania, wine tasting, enjoy conventional foods, customs and festivals. Romania, positioned throughout the historical partitions of Thrace, it's the birth place of Dionysus, but his true origins of lost time mist. The thought of exploring a brand new place can be quite thrilling. They've effectively educated drivers who can drive by the dunes. You too can easily rent ferrets and beetles. Its sleek looks shortly led it to turn out to be the new rod of selection among automotive lovers, many of whom selected to enhance the performance of their automobiles to make them even faster.

The Monroe Doctrine's Panama Canal
Tumblr media
Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far. Theodore Roosevelt, 1901
America succeeded where France failed in excavating the Panama Canal as the latter stumbled upon financial ruin with $287m in funds haemorrhaged and 22,000 lost souls (Ameringer 1970). The initial follies of this white elephant with its pecuniary overruns and human tragedy was symptomatic of hubris when architect Ferdinand de Lesseps had recently been canonized for his iconic Suez Canal in the twilight of the 19th century. Unbeknownst to the Frenchman however was how the jungle proved far less forgiving if not outright sadistic between the scourge of tropical disease and logistics. The learning curve for the Panama Canal differed from the Suez Canal in that the first was much steeper relative to the benign desert whose excavation took place at sea-level. Furthermore a jungle’s habitat incubates malarial and yellow fever vectors as in mosquitoes which only exacerbated woes like landslides most prominent in wet seasons. Equipment quickly succumbed to the cancer of rust from humidity or the bog of mud (Hook 2010). Workers fared no better as three out of every four engineers embroiled in the snafu perished to disease within a few short months upon arrival. By conservative estimates five hundred lives were sacrificed for every mile of the canal built (Parker 2009). From the outset this monument to empire was accursed.
When France debuted its star-crossed project in 1881 until its premature end in 1889 the method of construction encountered a litany of problems. The single biggest fault in a constellation of them hinged on the preference to dig a sea-level canal versus one governed by locks. Blinded by accolades from the Suez Canal engineers sought to recycle past know-how and extrapolate it wholesale onto Panama’s geological map. In the absurdity of such logic it never occurred to the Pollyannas that a mind-numbing amount of earth would need to be excavated. Moreover if the tolerances of slopes were not minded then landslides could become a thing of habit. The latter did manifest. Not only was a sea-level anatomy a great fiscal burden its design also begot a minefield of complications from the inherent instability of soil. Although locks were added later to the architecture’s plan in 1887 a gratuitous waste of money had already aroused skepticism for the project hence hubris doomed it from the start. Lessons from triumphs of old across the sand dunes of Egypt bore no resemblance to Panama’s topography (Bonilla 2016). Upon taking the helm in 1903 American engineers adumbrated in a meticulous study that a sea-level canal was so outlandish its costs would have exceeded one with locks by $100m in tandem with a ten-year delay (McCullough 1977).
Tumblr media
The Icarus syndrome afflicting the French had much to do with a lack of deference for geometry which in turn blighted their gambit of vicariously attempting godhood in bridging two oceans via the Isthmus. Because a sea-level canal was prized the subsequent cut had to reach an incredible depth as it would need to taper off with a shallow gradient to eschew landslides. The nemesis of rainfall endemic to the region however made it abundantly clear that the angles chosen would destine any work to be in vain since excavations were refilled just as quickly as they were dug. A run-of-the-mill project deteriorated into a Sisyphean task when floods wrought havoc on worksites by turning them into a sodden mess. This misadventure brought forth by miscalculation from the parochialism of insisting on a sea-level canal led to an ever faster depletion of resources as cash reserves in Paris dwindled. Ferdinand de Lesseps simply could not be moved from his brash notion of terraforming the Isthmus in spite of how the attrition of wasted time claimed more lives by the day when disease terrorized the workforce. In all fairness upon Americans resurrecting the project they too were intoxicated by a sea-level canal in the incipient stages but averted disaster by the narrowest of margins when the Senate voted 36 to 31 for locks (McCullough 1977).
Blessed with the luxury of hindsight the cautionary tale of France’s ignominy ensured the project would not be abdicated anew. The next chapter of the saga began when Columbia reneged on the Hay-Herrán Treaty promising Washington a lease over the Panama Canal Zone. When the latter did not take kindly to this effrontery the stick substituted for the carrot as America militarized Panama on its quest for independence. In the spirit of the 1823 Monroe Doctrine which sought to make a protectorate out of the Western Hemisphere the ribbon of land soon fell under the prerogative of President Theodore Roosevelt after the yoke of Columbian rule was cast off. Upon ratification of the Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty in November of 1903 ownership of the real estate stretching fifty miles across the isthmus was formally transferred at the cost of $10m and $250k in annuities henceforth (Connie 2012). Panama ceded the Canal Zone in perpetuity as recompense for the gun-boat diplomacy that was brought to bear when the USS Nashville shored up deterrence against Columbia’s tit-for-tat through its proximity to the coastline. With such realpolitik put to rest this patch of land which proxied for a de facto outpost of American imperialism saw work begin in earnest. President Roosevelt thus inherited the defunct Panama Canal.
Unlike the brinkmanship of the French the esprit de corps for the Canal under American stewardship evoked much more intensity for it was an existential matter. Whereas private capital financed the Compagnie Universelle du Canal Interocéanique it was the Treasury which shepherded the project in its entirety as it incurred $375m (1910 USD) in costs. Such statism was a function of the Progressive Era when pundits and technocrats subscribed to a larger role for government. Hence President Roosevelt would couch the infrastructure in the firmament of industrial policy for two red-letter reasons: (1) proffering a gateway of a 11,700-mile shortcut for commerce between New York and San Francisco (Lesseps 1886); (2) remedying the impasse of the isthmus that divided the Atlantic and Pacific theatres to the detriment of deployment. The Canal was equally esteemed for diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region when Guam, Puerto Rico and the Philippines were seized as spoils of conquest following the 1898 Spanish-American War. A strategic artery spanning the isthmus that transcended its utilitarian function could therefore consolidate territorial possessions for overseas imperialism. Seen through American exceptionalism the Canal became a physical expression of empire.

Things to Know Before You Go Desert Camp Near Jaisalmer’s Sam Sand Dunes
When is the Best Time to Visit the Sam Sand Dunes?
The Sam Sand Dunes, located near the town of Jaisalmer in western Rajasthan, are a beautiful sight to behold. However, the weather plays an important role in determining the best time to visit these sand dunes. Winter from November to February is considered the high season, when temperatures are mild ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. During these months, the sands take on a beautiful golden hue. However, summer months from March to June should be avoided as temperatures soar to a scorching 45 degrees Celsius. The best time is considered late September to October when the mercury drops after the monsoon rains. At this time, the sands are cool to walk on and the surroundings are lush green. One can also experience local desert festivals during this season. Overall, winter or post-monsoon season offer the most pleasant weather conditions and sights to appreciate the Sam Sand Dunes in all their glory.
Choosing the Right Desert Camp
The desert can get harsh during the day with high temperatures and at night with low temperatures. It is important to carry the necessary items to ensure your comfort and safety during a desert camping trip. Some essential things to pack include comfortable clothes for day and night, a large hat or headscarf for sun protection, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion, torch or flashlight, extra batteries, first aid kit, toiletries, toilet paper, wet wipes, water bottles, snacks, cash/cards, mobile phone and charger. It is also a good idea to carry a light blanket or sleeping bag, mosquito repellent, basic utensils if cooking, knife, lighter/matches and a compass. Do not forget your camera to capture the beautiful desert landscapes. Proper footwear and covering all skin can protect from sunburn, dehydration, insects and other environmental hazards. Being prepared with the right gear makes enjoying the desert under the stars a memorable experience.
Activities to Do at Sam Sand Dunes
The Sam Sand Dunes offer visitors a variety of activities to enjoy the desert landscape. The most popular activity is sandboarding down the golden sand dunes. Rent a sandboard and sled down the smooth sandy slopes for thrills and photos. Watching the sunset over the dunes with the changing hues is a must. One can also go for an evening camel ride along the dunes under a starry sky. For the adventurous, try your hand at desert camping under a blanket of stars away from city lights. Early morning walks are refreshing as the sun rises. To learn about the local culture, visit the nearby villages of the Bishnoi community. One can also go for desert safaris in 4x4 vehicles to experience the rugged terrain. For panoramic views, climb to the top of the highest dune. Photographing the scenic vistas and capturing memorable moments are great ways to make the most of your visit. If you are willing to book trip to Jaisalmer than I recommend you the best cab service in Jaisalmer named as Jaisalmer Taxi Service Cab. Jaisalmer Taxi Service Cab is one of India's generally trustworthy, practical, and excellent taxi administrations. They offer minimal expense, great taxi benefits that ensure a charming excursion.

This month I try to get better at putting out work in a consistent manner. The prompts are from the Spooktober challenge by the.plottery on Instagram.
Todays prompt is: Write a story about two ghost stuck haunting the same house, only they died two centuries apart
I have to admit, I had a very free interpretation of today's prompt. I really enjoyed this opening, maybe I'll revisit this one. Also I made it SciFi again.
I do not know how the disgruntled-looking man in the historic uniform appeared before me. All I remember is, that I found a ruin in the dunes of the sand. Naturally, I went to investigate. As soon as I passed the threshold of the inner door a bright white light engulfed me and I had a feeling in my stomach similar to the acceleration of a starship.
“Why are you here?” the man demanded.
“I could ask you the same, you weren’t here a second ago” I was confused, did I just stumble into the retreat of a weird hermit?
He scoffed at my reply. “I have been here for a long time. Longer than anyone should.”
“I am sorry, I did not mean to intrude. I did not know someone was living in these ruins. I should go,” I tried to defuse the situation, the stranger seemed hostile.
“Well good luck with that, lass” he chuckled a bit, before continuing “When you are done trying to leave, I’ll be over there.” He pointed to an alcove further back in the ruins.
I was fed up with that weirdo and just turned around to go back to my starship. I could see the outside and as I wanted to pass the outer doors I ran into an invisible wall. It did not hurt, it was like walking into a mosquito net, but more sturdy. I tried to leave a couple of times, even with a running start, but it just could not be done.
Angry I went to the alcove where the man was sitting down with his eyes closed and I started to yell, “Let me go in this instance!”
Slowly he opened his eyes and grinned a mean smile. “Ah, you are still here. Unfortunately, it is not within my power to let you go. I am but a prisoner, same as you.”
“What do you mean ‘prisoner’? Who is holding us prisoner? Tell me!” I did not trust him, but the helplessness in his voice was genuine.
“I do not know who exactly is holding us prisoner, but they also built this complex.” He stood up with a sigh and then spoke again. “I figured out some things during my time here. Let me show you.” He walked towards the entrance over the dusty stone floor. With some hesitation, I followed him.
“This facility once belonged to some alien civilization, apparently they were really cagey about everything so they armed their entrance with a trap. A trap both of us activated by entering this place.” He arrived at the inner door and pointed at an array of large silver coils all around.
“How long have you been trapped here?” I asked.
“I do not know. The days on this planet are long and with no means of recording how many I spent here… I could not tell.” He drooped his shoulders and a pang of sadness ran over his face. “Say what year is it?”
“It is the sixth of March in the year 6854” As I said the words out loud the man before me looked puzzled for a second, then sad, and then he started to cry. I was confused and I gave him some pats on his back to comfort him. It was a few moments before he collected himself.
“I am sorry. I just didn’t … I didn't realize how long it has been. My memories are a little fuzzy, but it should have been at least 200 years since I entered here.”
I stared at him in disbelief. I knew that with modern advances humans could get to 160 maybe even 180 years, but this man should not be alive.
He must have noticed me staring. “You are wondering how I am still alive, right?”
“Yeah, among other things.”
“Well let me tell you what I found out while I was Incarcerated here. This is no regular prison. We are locked in a quantum state out of sync with the outside world. This field here, “ and he gestured to the coils again, “altered the state of our matter, but also locked us in time. We do not get tired, we do not need to drink or to eat. We also cannot be observed, that’s why you only saw me when you too got caught. I was yelling at you to stay away.”
I was horrified at what I heard. We were doomed to be ghosts in this ancient ruin for all eternity. “How did you not go insane in all this time?”
He grinned, “Oh, certainly was insane for a good long while, but I got bored with it. I managed to access a terminal and gather some information, but my xenolinguistics and quantum physics are a bit lacking. I learned just enough for the rank of officer. I am no scientist.”
He opened his eyes wide, as an epiphany had just taken hold of him. “What do you do, maybe we can get behind more of the secrets of this place.” He did not really wait for an answer but started jogging excitedly towards the back of the hall, with a motion for me to follow him. With nowhere else to go I followed him deeper into the prison I was now haunting.

Travel Essentials: What to Pack for Every Destination
Traveling is more than just hopping on a plane or hitting the road; it's about immersing yourself in different cultures, exploring new terrains, and making unforgettable memories. However, one key aspect of travel often leaves people scratching their heads: packing. What are the non-negotiable items to take with you? How do you adapt your packing list for various destinations? Let's unpack (pun intended) the essentials to make your travel smoother, irrespective of where you're headed.
The Universal Basics
No matter your destination, some items are a must-have:
Travel Documents: Passport, visa (if required), travel insurance details, flight tickets, and itineraries. Money: A combination of local currency, credit/debit cards, and travel money cards. Medication: Personal medications, a basic first aid kit, and any recommended vaccines or health precautions. Chargers & Adapters: Compatible with your destination's plug type. Personal Entertainment: A good book, e-reader, or your music playlist for those long journeys.
Tropical Getaways
Heading to sun-soaked beaches or dense rainforests? Here's what to pack:
Lightweight Clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics. Swimwear & Towel: You'll be hitting those beaches! Rain Jacket or Poncho: Essential for unpredictable tropical rain. Sunscreen & Bug Spray: Protect against the sun and pesky mosquitoes. Waterproof Bags: For protecting electronics and important documents.
Mountain Adventures
Scaling peaks or trekking through alpine forests? Make sure you have:
Thermal Wear: The temperatures can drop significantly. Hiking Boots: Your regular sneakers won't suffice. Backpack with Rain Cover: Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Hydration: A refillable water bottle or hydration pack. Multi-layer Clothing: Layering is key to adjusting to varying temperatures.
Urban Exploration
For those exploring bustling cities:
Comfortable Walking Shoes: You'll be on your feet a lot! Portable Phone Charger: To ensure your phone stays alive with all those photos. City Maps & Guidebooks: Digital or paper, these can be lifesavers. Safety Wallet or Belt: To keep your money and cards safe from pickpockets. Earplugs: Cities can be noisy, and these can ensure a good night's sleep.
Desert Destinations
Braving the majestic dunes? Be sure to pack:
Sun Hat & Sunglasses: The desert sun can be scorching. Long, Lightweight Clothing: Protects from the sun and keeps you cool. Lip Balm & Moisturizer: The arid environment can dry out your skin. Sand Scarf or Gaiters: For those sandstorm moments. Insulated Water Bottle: To keep your liquids cool.
Polar or Cold Regions
Exploring icy landscapes or snowy terrains? Remember:
Insulated Jacket: Essential for the extreme cold. Thermal Underwear: It's all about layering. Snow Boots with Grips: Regular shoes won't suffice on icy surfaces. Gloves, Scarves & Ear Muffs: Every part of you needs to stay warm. UV Sunglasses: Snow reflects sunlight, increasing UV exposure.
Carry-On Essentials
For those times you're on the plane or in-transit:
Travel Pillow & Eye Mask: Maximizing comfort during your flight. Snacks: Plane food isn't for everyone. Empty Water Bottle: Fill it up after passing security checks. Noise-canceling Headphones: Drown out the plane's engine noise. Sanitizers & Wet Wipes: Keeping fresh and germ-free. Conclusion
The adage "Better safe than sorry" rings particularly true when it comes to packing for a trip. While you might not need every item listed above for every journey, having a comprehensive checklist ensures you're well-prepared for any eventuality.
However, while packing, remember the importance of weight limits and restrictions, especially when flying. A well-packed bag is a balance between essentials and not overburdening yourself.
With this guide in hand, you're all set to embark on your next adventure, confident that you have everything you need. Happy travels!

Today we drove South to two lakes (West Lake and East Lake) that are both cut off by thin sand dunes from Lake Ontario. Beautiful and farmy. The sand dunes are pretty unique for Canada and when Shaun was a kid, they were way less overgrown so more obviously sand banks with towering heights. It was super cool to see where Shaun spent his youthful summers! And, we got to see the Mariner’s museum (at least outside) and then drive to Robert’s Point right on Lake Ontario. There were clouds and clouds of midges (sp?) that were the size of mosquitoes but eat other insects. It was crazy how many there were. I include pics of Gaelan working through a particularly dense cloud of apparently unphotogenic bugs lol.
Super beautiful countryside! We loved it. We ended up at Boston Pizza and enjoyed 2 DVDs: Speed this morning while it rained and Up In the Air tonight. We head to Kingston tomorrow morning on the 10:20 am train.
We also had what we thought was a porcupine friend in a tree in our backyard but eventually he stuck his head up and… raccoon! He positively hated that we were so happy to see him lol

SMART BOMB
The completely unnecessary news analysis
by Christopher Smart
November 22, 2022
IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BEER
If you are a sheikh from Qatar you can convince soccer's ruling body, FIFA, to award your tiny country the World Cup. You can buy a bunch of Airbus jetliners from France to capture its vote for the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world — only held every four years. And if that's not enough you can dump truckloads of cash on FIFA's driveway. Just pretend they didn't ask for it. It matters little that your country is mostly sand dunes where scorching summer temperatures can bake shawarma. It matters little that hundreds of foreign workers die during construction of World Cup facilities and stadiums. But don't under any circumstances ban beer from the matches. That could draw criticism from every corner of the globe and make FIFA look bad. That's right, Wilson, they could look bad for screwing up the beer. How do you expect European and American fans to watch a match without beer? It's insanity. Alcohol is not illegal in Qatar but drinking in public is. The sheikhs had 12 years to prepare but banned beer just two days before the kickoff. So organizers shifted gears and will serve non-alcoholic Bud Zero at the matches. Alaho Akbar (God is great). There may be plenty of virgins in Paradise — but there ain't no beer. And that friends is why we drink it here.
EATEN ALIVE: CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT?
You are hereby sentenced to 1,000 mosquito bites. Imagine a judge meting out justice that way. Well, if the lawbreaker is sent to the new $1 billion Utah State Prison it won't be far from reality. Under the headline “Eaten Alive,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported that Department of Corrections officials didn't expect mosquitoes to be such a problem. But the staff here at Smart Bomb sure did as reflected in our July 19 edition: “[I]nmates took the scenic bus ride from Draper to the new joint on Mosquito Flats west of the airport.” (No applause, please.) Inmates and prison staff were covered in bites until the weather turned cold. The mosquitoes will be back in May but executives have yet to devise an abatement plan. One option would spray pesticides over the prison from airplanes — an added bonus to a stint at the big house. (Carcinogens, anyone.) Fact is, Corrections brass didn't have much choice but to move to mosquito habitat because the land under the old prison had become too valuable. “Visionaries” and their buddies on Capitol Hill have a great plan: A 600-acre “model live-work community” that would create 40,000 “great, cutting-edge jobs,” and a gold mine for a few on the ground floor — the ground floor in Draper, far, far away from Mosquito Flats.
LET THE INQUISITIONS BEGIN
Now that Republicans have taken control of the House, Americans can finally get what they really want: investigations of the Biden Crime Family — Hunter Biden, President Biden and his dog Major, who bites Republicans visiting the White House. There will be other probes, including one of the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 and where Liz Cheney gets her hair done; Attorney General Merrick Garland; FBI chief Chris Wray; and probably Ken Jennings and Jeopardy. These inquisitions are bound to pay dividends in lower gasoline prices, reduced inflation and interest rates, affordable housing and decreased carbon emissions — with luck, they will destroy Biden's socialist agenda for the underserved in health, education and economic opportunity. It's a whole new ballgame, folks, with cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and green energy. Leading the way will be the patriot from Ohio, Rep. Jim Jordan, who never wears suit coats because they make him look like a sleazy politician. Just because he called the story of a 10-year-old Ohio girl who got an abortion after she was raped, “another lie,” doesn't mean he's not a statesman. What is a statesman, anyway, but someone who screams at House committee witnesses. Hey, Dr. Anthony Fauci, better watch your six!
Post script — That'll just about do it for another fun-filled week here at Smart Bomb, where we keep track of Elon Musk so you don't have to. While he was giving the boot to 3,700 Twitter employees, Musk tweeted, let's make Twitter “maximum fun.” Right. Here's something from our “Life Elevated” - file: Frog eye salad has a special place in Utah lore. Last week Smart Bomb reported on psychedelic toads from the Sonoran Desert, but their eyes are not in most recipes for frog eye salad. No one is sure how it came about, but the buzz at Relief Society is that Latter-day Saint women concocted frog eye salad with saltpeter to keep their frisky husbands down on the farm — no pun intended. There's a mean joke that public schools have litter boxes in restrooms for kids wearing faux animal tails — but this is for real: Herschel Walker, the Georgia GOP candidate for Senate, said: “I don’t want to be a vampire anymore. I want to be a werewolf.” Can you beat that? Try this: Right-wing podcaster Ben Shapiro says Martians would be against same-sex marriage. “You could be a visitor from Mars and you could see that all of human procreation relies on man, woman, child.” He later said he hadn't actually talked to Martians but he's pretty sure Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has.
Alright Wilson, we've finally come into some big news that the band knows something about — beer drinkin'. So maybe you and the guys can dish up one of your libation faves for those poor World Cup fans roasting roasting like shawarma in Qatar. Ready, OK, hit it:
I wasn't born for diggin deep holes I'm not made for pavin long roads I aint cut out to climb high line poles But I'm pretty good at drinkin beer So hand me one more That's what I'm here for I'm built for having a ball I love the nightlife I love my budlight I like 'em cold and tall I aint much for mowin thick grass I'm too slow for workin' too fast I don't do windows so honey don't ask But I'm pretty good at drinkin' beer A go getter maybe I'm not I'm not known for doin' a lot But I do my best work when the weather's hot I'm pretty good at drinkin' beer So hand me one more That's what I'm here for I'm built for having a ball I love the nightlife I love my budlight I like 'em cold and tall

The Great Dunes of the Southwest by virtualwayfarer When you say Colorado - the thought that comes to most people's minds is one of jagged mountains - the Colorado Rockies and continental divide. Perhaps you think of the stunning gorges of the Black Canyon on the Gunnison. What you probably don't think of, are some of North America's most spectacular sand dunes. Though they've become very, very popular, the Great Sand Dunes of Colorado are a positively spectacular spot. The dunes themselves are windswept and mighty with 700+ foot drifts which sit at the feet of 12,000+ foot peaks. In early summer, and dependent on weather, you'll also get a snow melt-fueled stream that snakes between the greenery and the dunes serving up a surreal divider and rich nursery for mosquitoes. As always, my shots are edited with basic modifications and a quasi-NatGeo inspired aesthetic. No artificial light added. Only cropping and lens spots removed. Most shots are single exposure takes.
