Kimsooja (Korean: 김수자; born 1957) was born in Daegu, South Korea. Kimsooja is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist who travels between her three homes and places of work in New York City, Paris, and Seoul. In 1980 Kim graduated with a B.F.A in Painting from Hong-Ik University, Seoul and continued to pursue her M.F.A there, obtaining the degree in 1984 at the age of 27. Her origin as a painter was a crucial starting point for the development of her art. That same year, she received a scholarship to study art at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, where she studied Printmaking. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1988 at Gallery Hyundai, Seoul. Currently, her work is featured in countless international museums and galleries as well as public art fairs and other spaces. Her practice combines performance, film, photo, and site-specific installation using textile, light, and sound. Kimsooja's work investigates questions concerning the conditions of humanity, while engaging issues of aesthetics, culture, politics, and the environment. Her principle of ‘non-doing’ and ‘non-making,’ which follows a conceptual and structural investigation of performance through modes of mobility and immobility, inverts the notion of the artist as the predominant actor. via Wikipedia Photography SUN HYE SHIN

For Climate Week NYC, we’re hosting a panel discussion on September 20 in our Noho Space. Artist and activist Ana Teresa Fernández will be joined by Cristina Gnecco (Co-Founder of HOPE Hydration) and Whitney McGuire, Esq. (Director of Sustainability at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum) in exploring how art and innovation can catalyze positive change, inspiring us to take newfound insights into the world and encourage collective action.

The panel will be held against the backdrop of Ana Teresa Fernández’s provocative series, Under Pressure—a multi-disciplinary work comprising video, photography, paintings, and sculpture that engages with questions of responsibility and response in relation to the climate emergency and rising sea levels.  Tune in to the livestream of the Under Pressure panel discussion on September 20 at 6:45 PM ET! Cannupa Hanska Luger (b 1979) is a New Mexico-based, multi-disciplinary artist of Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara, Lakota, Austrian, and Norwegian descent.

Using social collaboration and in response to timely and site-specific issues, Luger produces multi-pronged projects that take many forms. Through monumental installations that incorporate ceramics, video, sound, fiber, steel, and repurposed materials, Luger interweaves performance and political action to communicate stories about 21st century Indigeneity.

Transcending colonial structures, the work oftentimes presents a call to protect land from capitalist exploits. Luger holds a BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts and was the 2018 Museum of Arts and Design Burke Prize recipient.

Hello. You will be all too aware that what was for so long referred to as climate change has recently, and necessarily, come to be known as the climate emergency. And that is because that is exactly what this is—but emergencies need not be so paralyzing. Everyone has their part to play, whether your proverbial Jo Average, or those at the summit of politics and activism, the sciences, or indeed, the arts.

For Climate Week NYC, Automattic will be joining forces with artist and activist Ana Teresa Fernández for just that purpose. This piece is representative of the scrutiny and pressure trans people are subjected to every day in order to justify their existence. To some, it can feel like the burden of the world is put on their shoulders.

Quinnton (@quinntoncreates) makes original art for queer people by trans people and finds that expressing himself through various media to be both an outlet of creativity and a way of reminding the world that they exist, an infinite act of defiance.

My piece SELF LOVE is an exploration in self-care, in making peace with myself and with my body. It’s not always easy, but taking time to reflect on my needs and to tenderly care for this queer self that I inhabit is essential for weathering the trials and challenges that it brings.

I am a multi-disciplinary artist who works both traditionally and digitally, focusing on portraiture and symbolic illustrations. I love to explore the emotional complexities of the human experience, through the lens of others and myself. I also love to depict queer relationships and love as an extension of exploring my own experiences! I am driven by the need to experimental visually or seeking to “answer” questions of mine which cannot be solved through words alone.

Using an old blurred vintage photo, I have painted a queer couple from an unknown time ago. By painting them and bringing as much clarity to their photo as possible, I am bringing their love and experience back to the forefront. This painting serves not only as a representation of their relationship and lives together, but also towards their resilience- to be queer in a difficult past, and now the difficult present.

Juniper is a transmasculine mixed-media artist based in the Midwest. His work focuses on human identity and relationships through a surrealist point of view. The piece chosen to represent queer resilience/resistance depicts two recurring figures from their works: Dysphoria and Pretender. Pretender, representing a midpoint of transition, wrestles with Dysphoria to obtain the fruit.

My mini quilt stickers are finally listed in my online shop! They're 1/18th scale of a quilt I completed two years ago! The background is transparent so it can float seamlessly onto whatever you stick it on.

The original quilt is a labor of love, made from mixing a base of three primary color fiber-reactive dyes and hand dyeing raw cotton fabric to achieve a unique rainbow palette. The dyed fabric is then held in a hexagon shape and sewn using a hand-sewing technique called English Paper Piecing. This artistic vision was inspired by color-mixing from my formal painting background as a multi-disciplinary artist.

I am a professional dancer with a bachelors in choreography but I love to freestyle dance! I love giving my self different dance prompts and taking improve suggestion from the audience during the streams. I believe movement is medicine and even if you don’t consider yourself a “ 💃🏽 DANCER” , there are still scientifically proven health benefits to dance and mindful movement!

With every retreat, it is with the deepest of intentions to bring to you different experiences, new sensations, shifts in creativity, and expansive resources and modalities that can be utilized as a catalyst for your life’s journey toward empowerment, embodiment, creativity, joy, and love. I’m so excited to introduce body-painting as part of our next retreat experience. It’s an honor to have @dawnjaiye on board to facilitate this creative and sensual experience to truly highlight the divine feminine form. Jaiye is a multi-disciplinary artist that I had the honor of working with years back. His artwork has grown tremendously and it’s a pleasure of mine to be able to highlight his talent at our next gathering. Body-painting is a fun, playful, and unique way for you to tune into all the sensations as the paint touches your skin, to every stroke that’s being made across different parts of your body. It is a task that takes time and patience to create, and while we are the blank human canvas for that period of time, we can use it as an opportunity to tune into our thoughts and feelings in the moment. @cynthiadtran will be there to capture the process and the end result as we all come together to remind ourselves that we are living, breathing, art. hey, i'm taryn

you could say i'm a multi-disciplinary artist; I specialise in all manners of music composition, production and engineering, but my passion for expression goes into a myriad of other medias, like photography, poetry, videography, abstract art etc. i need not bore you.

the connection between different forms of media bearing the same root of artistic ideas has always fascinated me, such that i seek to keep it as a fundamental point of reference in all work i do now. slowly but surely i'm now letting these pieces into the world, in the hopes that they can serve as a kind of study to the ways around us and a reflection in our inner selves.

they act as stepping stones of my own introspection, bearing an intense vulnerability in the only way i know how to create.

you can find cool pictures i've taken/taken of me by my friends, extensive over sharing marking significant points in my life or studies i have made, and some fun little poems and sounds pocketed around. i hope you like it :)

and obviously like most people, my website serves as a more detailed portal of works i've done, as i try my best to keep up with my ever-changing desire for evolving aesthetics as my heart and its yearnings evolve each day.
