It’s been a crazy (awesome) month, and I’ve got to take a moment to look back. 💙 . A year ago, I had unknowingly begun planning #MuniTravels while on a spur-of-the-moment month-long trip in the Visayas to get away, but also to learn more about sustainability, conservation and social enterprise. I was fiercely trying to move on from extended heartache, while grappling with the meaning of life and the next moves I’d be making. . The trip I took back then wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, and it had forced me to ask myself hard questions and really reassess what I valued. I thank the people who helped refill my cup this time last year. 🧡 . Earlier this month, I had the privilege of taking a second group of travelers on a condensed yet amped up version of this trip with me — to meet some of the people who refuel my drive to do what I do, and restore my hope in humanity and the future of the planet. ☺️ . This coming Mother's Day, we remember that our mothers nurtured us since we were young, making sure that we had food to eat and shelter over our heads. Our mothers help shape us into the strong individuals we are today (whether that's from tough or tender love lol). . In the same way, so has Mother Earth nourished us, from the produce that grows from her land, and the trees that provide shade. . #MuniTravels Day 2 - March 10, found us traveling from Silay down ~5 hours south to Sipalay to learn more about this former mining town turned ecotourism and diving destination. . After visiting @maysorganicgarden and seeing the various agri and zero waste technologies developed by RU (Ramon Uy Sr.), we went off to visit the @freshstartorganic farm in Silay City with @chin2xuy or Ramon Uy Jr. Who inspired his parents to look into organic agri. . With his wife Francine, they sought to turn biodegradable trash into cash through composting. . Today, over 10 years since they started, they pioneer organic farming in Negros and in the country, and have turned their business into one that cut across the different areas of the value chain, selling compost, fresh produce, fresh meals at @freshstartorganic store in SM Bacolod, and personal care products. 😊 . Here’s one way used PET bottles and other recycled plastic are repurposed by the folks over at @maysorganicgarden, with a plastic shredder created and produced by RU Corporation in Negros Occidental. . Once the plastic is shredded, these are then turned into pavers use for pathways around the farm. . This was just one of the highlights of our recently concluded #MuniTravels in Negros Occidental!
