A SHOP FOR KILLERS
GENRES: Action, Mystery
SUMMARY: A hacker, a recluse, a muay thai killer, a young woman, her uncle, and his mercenary colleagues learn about their pasts and what the future holds for their careers.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Fridge post-its, aphasia, boring funerals, cheetah documentaries, explosions, hostages, secret armories, spy gear, bulletproof closets, part-time jobs, motorcycle dates, giant cleaners, CG robots, and familial trust.
HOT TAKE: This show is a rough watch in all the best ways. Its got great John Wick-style action, a simple enough plot to not distract from the character movement, and some great, low-key acting chops. Although it hasn't been announced, I CANNOT WAIT for a Season 2 of this show.
Also, as usual (and forever) Lee Dong Wook looks amazing in literally every scene he's in, no matter how many bruises or bandages he carries with him.

DRAMA REVIEW | Perfect Marriage Revenge (2023)
Tumblr media
There’s an argument to be made about how Perfect Marriage Revenge had a perfect execution because it was a 12 episodes long drama and didn’t waste time for unnecessary conflicts. Everything took its right time and was resolved in a cohesive way with the characters development.
Both leads were compelling and had amazing chemistry, but the secondary characters were equally interesting to watch. All the performances outstanding and you can tell the actors are enjoying themselves in their respective roles.
On a story about a woman looking for revenge against her own family, this kdrama had a perfect balance between makjang and romcom. Making it an easy and fun watch. I highly recommend it!

This episode just reaffirms that I do not want Gwi Ju and Da Hae together. Pinning Da Hae as the reason for Gwi Ju coming out of depression and for keeping him out of depression is a horrible pressure to put on Da Hae. It’s not her responsibility. Yet both Gwi Ju and his dad tell her that she is the reason and kinda imply if she goes, so does Gwi Ju’s recovery.
I can accept that she’s the catalyst but Gwi Ju must find the reason for himself. Preferably with a therapist. Recovery from depression can have ups and downs. If he has a bad day, what does that mean for Da Hae then? Does she blame herself??
I can see why they are drawn to each other but neither are in any place for a relationship. Good for Da Hae for not going through with the wedding.
Also it’s a bit frustrating to see them gloss over Gwi Ju’s drinking recovery. He’s an alcoholic. There should have been some severe withdrawal symptoms. Oh well.
I feel so bad for I Na. I do hope that Hye Rim doesn’t do anything to mess with her. I suspect she might be able to handle her, plus she’ll have Joon Woo on her side. I am more in invested in this cute first love than the adult one.
I do enjoy I Na’s relationship with Da Hae because there is a connection there. I’m not sure she ever would have followed through on her threat. She did seem a bit distressed when Da Hae announced she was a fraud.
I am curious about the ring that Dong Hee found. Future Gwi Ju likely gave it to her.

Parents (at least one) are THE WORST but Both Are Still Alive: Jang Shin-yu (Destined With You) Han Yi-joo (Perfect Marriage Revenge) Ko Mun-young** (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Mok Sol-hee (My Lovely Liar) Gu Won (King the Land) Crown Prince Lee Hwi/Dam-yi/Yeon-seon (The King's Affection) Do Bong-soon (Strong Woman Bong-Soon) Woo Young-woo (Extraordinary Attorney Woo)*** Jung Ji-woon (The King's Affection) Kang Bo-geol/Lee Ki-ho (Castaway Diva) Yeo Jeong-woo (Doctor Slump) Hong Hae-in (Queen of Tears) On Eun-yoo (Twinkling Watermelon) Oh Yeon-joo (W: Two Worlds) Yoon Ji-ho (Because This Is My First Life) Nam Se-hee (Because This Is My First Life) Bok Gwi-ju (The Atypical Family) Moon Cha-min (Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale)
Immortal Being that Still Somehow has Parent Issues: Myul Mang/Doom (Doom at your Service) Lee Yeon & Lee Rang (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Jeong Gu-won (My Demon)
Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal, alive parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears, nothing wrong with them out of the ordinary and they are in the drama a significant amount.) Ha Eun-gyeol (Twinkling Watermelon, very loving parents and the deafness and their reliance on him is not anyone's fault)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned. ***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. ****This character is tricky because he was explicitly raised as an orphan by his grandma, his father didn't sign his birth certificate (Korean equivalent of this), and he's registered as the child of his grandmother, not his actual mom. His grandma is dead by the beginning of the series and he is living alone without family, so I think he counts as an orphan.
Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

Well, ep 4 went a long way in helping redeem Da Hae's character. It's not fully there yet, but it did fill in very significant gaps so we understand her better.
Her "mom" is not actually her mom but was somehow tied to her father. I do think that the story of him freezing to death, drunk, is true. I am not entirely sure if Da Hae's father actually owed her "mom" anything because I don't think she was a loan shark but more strictly in the con artist side of things. Regardless, she took advantage of a teen girl who just lost her father and had no one else. She's been manipulating and controlling her into paying off her father's perceived debt. Plus her "mom" would also get insurance money if she died. Da Hae's so called killer move is using her very real trauma of surviving the fire, something her "mom" forces her to do.
So while yes, Da Hae is manipulating Gwi Ju and I na, it's also not necessarily by choice but out of desperation to get her freedom from the woman she calls "mom". She even tries to get her to change targets. I also suspect that regardless of what the "mom" says, there will always be one more job.
It makes me wonder too if Da Hae's "sister" is in a similar situation as Da Hae with the "mom". Call me weird, but I kind of hope that Dong Hee and Grace become friends. There's a small potential there that they could be good for one another.
The mother/grandmother remains awful. I haven't said much about the father/grandfather but I'm sort of indifferent to him. He's not as overtly bad but he also basically goes along with his wife so that's makes him kinda awful too.
Poor I Na. I just want to hug her. She's so painfully shy. That girl who took an interest in her is now jealous that Joon Woo took an interest in her. She'll only be her friend if she doesn't like Joon Woo. And of course he heard her say she thinks he's a jerk. I hope she gets some real friends. And that includes Joon Woo, because he seems to genuinely be interested in her and has been nothing but kind. He noticed her, when she was invisible.
