since there’s been a kdrama drought these years, I’ve went back and watched some old dramas AND THEY ARE AMAZING GEMS.
Under the Queen’s Umbrella
This is a story about a mother’s love and how it can take different shapes and forms, though they don’t always necessarily put the child’s best interest at heart. In a place where all the princes and their mothers fight for the title of Crown Prince, the Queen only fights to protect her sons and their loved ones. Think Sky Castle but set in the Joseon era.
The metaphorical use of the Umbrella symbolizes the Queens protection and though she may get hurt, she would never allow her son’s to get hurt.

Flower Crew: Joseons Marriage Agency
The message of the story is that no matter who you are or where you’re from, you deserve happiness. When you find the one you love, the weight on your shoulder eases because you now have another shoulder to lean on and to share the burden.
A common blacksmith is kidnapped on the day of his wedding to become the next king of Jose-on. He recruits the help of the Flower Crew to make the lowly status girl a noble lady to be eligible for the Queen’s selection. New feelings and evil intentions threaten lives and the characters’ happiness.

Mr. Queen
A comedic drama that indiscreetly tells the audience that love is limitless - it can transcend time and it is fluid.
A modern male chef is “saved” by being trapped inside a Queen’s body in the Joseon era. He tries to return but in the process changes some events to his modern life and the Queen’s for the better.

Hye yoon is in such a shitty agency, look at woo seok's agency, striking while the iron is hot and making sure he does fan meets and attends variety shows and makes more connections but hye yoon's agency is doing NOTHING, and it's starting to piss me off.
Lee jae wook and rowoon, both became so famous after extraordinary you, but not hye yoon, they failed back then and are failing to promote her even now. I really hope for her sake, that she realises this and changes her agency, I NEED TO SEE MORE OF HER 🥹
also, the ditto movie promotion videos, na in woo was an asshole the whole fucking time, i hate him now, he's a piece of shit, i didn't like his behavior AT ALL
I just found out that she joined a new agency in April but it has artists that have been inactive for quite a while now😭😭, GOD, this woman needs better people around her, someone that can help her make smarter decisions

Meanwhile, some women [in South Korea] received an advanced education, like Na Hye-Seok, the country's first Western-style painter and an iconic writer. One of the so-called "New Women," Na was born in 1896 to a wealthy family and learned about feminism in Japan, where she studied the arts and read various feminist texts, including Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. The theatre play inspired Na's poem "Nora," a rallying cry for women to defy patriarchal norms:
I was a doll As the doll of my father as a daughter As the doll of my husband as a wife I was their toy Let Nora go […] I am a person Before being a wife of a husband Before being a mother of a child First, I'd like to become a person […] Ahhh girls Wake up and follow behind Rise up and radiate power The bright light of the new day shined.
From “Flowers of Fire.”

KDramas - 2023 List
A.k.a. the dramas on my radar:
[Watched ✔️] "Unlock the Boss" — Watched this for Chae Jong-hyeop. And the drama is not without flaws, but I still like the technological theme and the characterization of Park In-sung as actor-turned-CEO.
[Watched ✔️] "The Forbidden Marriage" — Started this without any expectation, but surprisingly was highly entertained by the female lead's antics. After all, it's Park Ju-hyun and she can surely do comedy. Also, Kim Woo-seok as Lee Shin-won is such a great second lead.
[Watched ✔️] "Crash Course in Romance (One-shot Scandal)" — Classic romcom, and I like it, despite the sprinkle of murder mystery. Jung Kyung-ho as the Math star teacher and involvement of food is just my cup of tea. Also, Chi-yeol’s interaction with the family: Hae-yi & the Uncle is 🤩
[Watched ✔️] "Our Blooming Youth" — A bit hesitant at first to start this despite of Park Hyung-sik, plus the 1st episode is a bit clunky. But I quickly warmed up to the sleuthing theme of the drama and the main couple's dynamic: he respects her skills right off the bat. Too bad that it kinda lost its charm — being a bit too muddled — as the drama progressed. What could’ve been!
[Watched ✔️] “Sacred Divorce” — Cho Seung-woo — Persevered just because of Snu. I like the friendship, attorney Choi, and the ramen lady, but things just…lack something that keeps me engaged.
[Watched ✔️] "King the Land" — Lee Jun-ho — Nothing ground-breaking, but such a good watch when you just want to shut off your brain and stare at Junho in all of his three-piece suits glory. The couple have such healthy relationship & stellar communication too.
[Watched ✔️] “See You in My 19th Life” — I dig the unique concept, but too many repeated gloomy flashbacks! Shin Hye-sun is great as always, and I love the sisters interaction, though. Also, the hints about their previous roles in historical drama (Junho as Yi San & Hye-sun as Queen Cheorin) make me want to pair them up. They’ll be such a powerhouse!
? in 2023 — "Joseon Lawyer" — Woo Do-hwan
? in 2023 — "Bloodhounds (Hunting Dogs)" — Woo Do-hwan
? in 2023 — "My Fireworks on Earth" — Yang Yang
? in 2023 — "Is It Fate?" — Chae Jong-hyeop
? in 2023 — "No Secret" — Kang Han-na & Go Kyung-pyo
? in 2023 — "Doctor Slump” — Park Hyung-sik & Park Shin-hye
? in 2023 — "Diva of the Deserted Island” — Chae Jong-hyeop & Park Eun-bin
? in 2024 — “Murder Dieary” — Choi Woo-shik, Son Seok-gu

The battle in the basement of the apartment building, where we see Nam-san use a shotgun to blast his way through some of the doctor’s ‘enhanced’ individuals, is a total exhilarating blast. Ma Dong-seok has been a powerhouse for most of his career post Train to Busan, but he sends people flying whenever he throws his fist or pulls the trigger. _Badland Hunters_ also has to break a record for most decapitations in a film. **Full review:** https://bit.ly/bdlndhntr MovieGuys: Badland Hunters does something things well, others just passably. Action is wall to wall and well choreographed.Special effects are excellent. Characterisations are solid if predictable and the acting is not to be sniffed at. However, the story is unremarkable, with a climax that feels, well, anti climatic. In summary, an okay but hardly exceptional watch, that would have benefited from more creativity on the storytelling front. Ritesh Mohapatra: “Badland Hunters: A Visually Striking Action Spectacle with Narrative Shortcomings” In this post-apocalyptic action thriller, Badland Hunters, while suffering from a repetitive and clichéd plot and uninteresting characters, excels in stunning hand-to-hand choreography and scintillating action set pieces. The film benefits greatly from the expertise of its veteran stunt coordinator turned director, known for his work on Train to Busan. Commendable world-building, visionary concepts, and excellent VFX are hindered by conventional writing. The short, crisply edited runtime avoids unnecessary elements. Don Lee’s exceptional portrayal of Nam-san, with exhilarating action sequences, overshadows the film’s narrative weaknesses, making it a guiltily satisfying popcorn-worthy entertainer, particularly for adrenaline enthusiasts.
