Just so you know these are the basic pinyin combinations that exist.

That's not even going into dialects which is a whole other thing but as far as I've seen no one has tried to write LWJ speaking in gusu dialect yet which is the irl suzhou dialec

And please be careful what you name your characters, I've seen someone name their characters Blue Book, Blue Radish, Blue Smell, Blue Bag, Scenery

Also be careful with naming them after flowers because they might end up sounding like prostitute names

The thing is WWX's birth name is literally the character for baby so weird literal names can and do exist

Hell my aunt's Chinese name is literally 'rainbow', my yeye's name was 'genius' and my nainai's sworn sister (idk how to describe it they were basically such good friends they basically call each other sisters alongside like two other women and their and my family have reunion dinner once in a while) her name was literally High Cloud 高云

Even in svssss (not counting six balls) LBH's name is literally 'the icy Luo river'

But even then they at least have nice meanings even if they ate very literal, and not like objects (tho ngl 蓝香 lan xiang, is very pretty but the author intended it to be mean spice xiangliao香料 but xiang by itself really just means smells/fragrance)

Just, please please note that Chinese words meanings changes when paired with other words and lose that meaning when it's by itself.

Like 包 bao by itself means bag. 包子 baozi means dumpling. You cannot take out the zi子 away from baozi and keep the meaning of dumpling.

But the thing is, they were all not educated. I feel like educated ppl or people with money to go to a fortune teller get nice poetic names if not then the child gets a very literal name. Eternal Sunshine

captures the surreal nature of forgetting someone you love(d) and knowing exactly what's happening despite being powerless to stop it.

Menashe

truly beautiful and moving film about the utter listlessness of life after loss. if you have ever felt unmoored, this movie is for you. one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever, too.

The Farewell

people were weird about this movie but the final scene where billie is being driven away from her nainai's house is one of the realest things i can remember seeing in a recent movie.

people found the dialogue in this stilted but this scene (spoilers) is so true to life especially for the early 2010s.

Aria flies to San Francisco alone to spend some of her summer with her Nainai. They both have secrets, which come out gradually. (Minor spoiler) Aria's involves a boy she liked who shared photos of her online; her Nainai's involves what she does every night in the kitchen at her Super Boba Café (and the groundhogs she feeds behind it). As Aria tries to help her Nainai improve business, the café's cat Bao offers a way to attract more customers. This leads to Aria finding out her grandma's secret (and telling her grandma hers).

Based on the look of this graphic novel's art, I assumed it would be squarely aimed at very young readers, but it has a lot to offer to upper-elementary and even middle school students. (Aria is about to turn 14.) And its great depiction of a friendly grandmother/granddaughter relationship reminded me of my mother-in-law and my daughter. Note: there's nothing too scary or adult in the book.

With all of these, I manually searched for nicknames containing "Xie" or "Hua", so it's possible I missed some that I didn't spot or are different than expected. Once I'd built that list of names, I've just been running a script to search for them. That means there could be some mistakes where the name comes up but it's about someone else (e.g. little Xie COULD be Wu Xie or Xie Lianhuan, not Xie Yuchen), though I did try to look for outliers. Also, everything is obviously based on someone's translation choices and how much subtitles are even including the nuances of naming - I'm getting the impression that they were fairly detailed so thanks to whoever subtitled these.

If there's some other nicknames you know are used, I can get rerun this script pretty easily (also didn't run other shows/the heihua movie because I don't have subs for it downloaded, but it'd be pretty fast to do if people are curious)

it's probably not what you're thinking expectations failed 😶‍🌫️ and i don't have a snippet because it's waiting on whenever i get to yucun biji farming arc so it's not really elaborate, but the premise is wu xie, being wu xie, is oblivious about feelings in ways that make you want to cry a little inside sometimes, and the nice gods for once of the land have noticed he likes xiaoge and thinks his feelings are unrequited. so their way of thanking him for his services is to curse him into taking the form of a snake, because we love irony and also because wu xie's zodiac animal is the snake (fire). and he can't turn back until "his heart becomes clear", or more like when he realizes xiaoge likes him back

wu xie thinks it's punishment coming for him because of what he did during sha hai because of course he does, but he slithers home anyway to try and find a solution. and he could have probably found a way to let xiaoge and pangzi know, but wu xie being wu xie, curosity gets the better of him and he waits to see how xiaoge reacts to him going missing. and the answer is it's not noticeable at first (to wu xie), but xiaoge spends more and more time in the mountains searching, and over time seems like he's troubled, like he's losing sleep, etc, and eventually wu xie realizes that xiaoge misses him and is visibly worried what did you expect wu xie really

meanwhile xiaoge takes notice of a snake that starts lingering in the trees and bushes around the house, and because it never seems aggressive he lets it be, and even lets it approach him during the increasingly rarer times he's at home, and eventually somehow i haven't figured that out yet realizes the snake is likely connected to wu xie. and somehow this winds up with snake!wu xie and xiaoge confessing to each other and that leads to wu xie becoming human again. don't ask for details i don't have them maybe one day🏃‍♀️

the only "snippet" i have in the doc is "吴邪，我带你回家。" (which is supposed to echo when xiaoge tells wu xie "take me home" in book 7 and then storms out of huo nainai's house we're also ignoring if that's grammatically correct i have one (1) fear) and "snake kisses! forehead snake kisses!" make of that what you will

aoife's mama, siblings n nainai (not me cloned bt the chinese word for grandma which i jst found out n am obsessed w) impulsively migrated to a little rural farmland village in ireland after some unfortunate business w their sperm source (branding him this bc he doesn't deserve to b called a father frankly) n aoife's mama eventually fell madly in love w Some Guy n out popped aoife

(addiction mention/ drugs implied) it ws Naught a happy union n they sadly both struggled w addiction since getting together rly. he kind of was a bad influence on aoife's mum from the start n got her into tht scene. bt like when aoife was tottering around her mum wanted to clear up her act for her sake bc she ws the centre of her whole world bt her dad didn't rly follow suit n as a result things were Not Good n quite the rollercoaster when aoife was little

they were kind of struggling in ireland as it was anyway bc their village was a rather traditional one n income was sparse bc of local prejudices n when things reached a boiling point w aoife's father her grandma stepped in to her mum n was like girl we're outta here.

aoife's two aunties migrated w them to this absolutely ramshackle old creaky farmhouse in prospect hill bc the girlies stick together that they bought fr a pittance bc it was kind of falling apart n all of the big apple trees surrounding it were semi rotten bt they all agreed it ws their fresh start. she has no contact w her father whatsoever to this day bt it's cool <3 they started making apple jam out of the rotten apples bc the bruised fruit makes the sweetest jam n this is kind of symbolic of aoife's positive mindset in life.

aoife's mama remarried a vry sweet introspective repairer of watches who ws strangely also irish n he surprisingly fit right in w the sisterhood they'd created

ANYWAY that's for family bg. as far as abilities go aoife's grandma has always had contact w the other side. it's strange too bc when they were fleeing ireland their grandma jst randomly had this pull towards marina as The Place To Go n it's almost like she cld sense the spn forces there within her. aoife's always had a very visceral attachment to her surroundings growing up bc like she'll. befriend different ghosts in different places n settings r like richly embroidered tapestries she can't help etching her fingers along to appreciate their craftsmanship. aoife believes people n their stories make the world go round <3

being a medium she hs a little oracle business of sorts in a side room of their big farmhouse n has a few sweet regulars who she regularly helps communicate w their passed loved ones. she's a bit too sweet tho n sometimes jst won't charge them bc she feels too mean charging to help them w their grief n some of them r hard for money so she doesn't feel it's right even tho it's like girl u need the income.... bt it's fine.

her grandma is vry powerful bt very controlled whereas aoife gets a bit too attached n is probably more at risk for possessions n such bc she's kind of easily manipulated if she feels for the tall tales a ghost is spinning. speaking of which there's a ghost tht kind of has a crush on her tht lingers in the farmhouse frm time to time n "accidentally" knocks a book off the shelf whenever it sniffs someone hving a crush on her in the air. aoife's like sheldon ur so silly not again!!!!

she's vry goofy. does big ungraceful giddy toothy witch cackles like bunny kicking her feet n everything then gets shy n bashful right after. loves fantasy, intricately engraved swords n the idea of having a pet baby dragon who's always sneezing n accidentally singeing the ends of her hair (bt she'd nvr get mad at them bc it's just so cute). she's constantly embroidering items or crafting a strange little something out of scrap material she finds n regularly has clumsily pinpricked fingers as a result. sometimes she collects twigs to help build birds nests bc she's like they're so little they must be so tired doing it all by themselves!!!!!

hs a HUGE albino rabbit named bo tht seems strangely immortal bt noone ever questions it. carries him around in her arms like a beloved handbag, close confidant n surrogate father all in one. he acts all sweet n soft w aoife then when her backs turned is the antichrist to anyone tht gets near her. it's true love <3

she's vry friendly n open bt romantically she's quite a closed book bc she's never rly witnessed a good demonstration of it.

hs long rambunctious flowing curly ginge hair like ophelia drowning in a pond n wears 4958724975942 rings n vry floaty kimonos n crochet skirts n long lacy skirts n dresses. oh n whenever she sneakily bites into one of their best apples she leaves a little indent frm her gap tooth.

It has manuscripts, books, various weapons and torture devices that I collected from the Wens and the sunshot campaign. Some fox spirit stuff as well. My secret room is kind of the treasury of the empire.

Jingyi: wow.

Yao: my collections would always help the defense force in some way.

TT... if you find that you want more after the ending, don't worry!! there is an am:vl spinoff sm!au where they have frequent reappearances, even through the children's banter lol ヾ(≧▽≦*)o blood of the covenant by @.ryungswr. myungyun, chaptered, finished. religious themes, vampire!myungdae, and 1900s vibes, all wrapped into one?? nainai never really thought that it would work with myungyun, but considering bite me era, i dont think i should be surprised.. the way yongsun was handled here made me gasp!! his character was very iconic (as much as i hate to say it LOL) and impacted the story.. poetically written, give it five stars o(￣▽￣)ｄ... if you finish reading it but want more, there's a crack au and a no-schedule 'sequel'! sunflower and angel's trumpet by @.0425zz. lunette, florist!linette x mafia!dailu, chaptered, ongoing. i was a casual dreamie listener, but this made me look into the group even further.. if you like old money aesthetics, double life, and very dynamic character dynamics, please read this story.. the characterization is so fun and refreshing, and there are direct references to sweeties' inside jokes lol. there's even ANGST!! AND I THOUGHT SWEETIES WERE ALLERGIC TO ANGST!!!! /HVYJ....... and it's so well done...... it will make you cry. TT....... chapter 57 'poppy' is nainai's biggest opp. (╯▔皿▔)╯!!! grrrr i will get you, zizi.. bite the bullet by @.88czns and @.mawuwamaz. ot6 rdwy (myeongyoko, magnetz, flowerz) ft. dreamie, mafia au, multi-fic series, ongoing. btb is not one fic, but multiple inside one named bundle! it is basically many stories set in the same universe with the same characters lol. my personal favorite is the flowerz one, because while the dynamic is similar to sunflower and marigold.. there is something more shocking when you get to the middle point hehe. btb has too many good things to talk about, so nainai suggests that you check it out for yourself and leave a reblog!! 🙇‍♂️ we are endless by @.endeulset. post-disbandment, ot7, chaptered, finished. nainai believes that this one is the most emotional, especially for endeuls.. two chapters cover one member (except for seongsu2 who stick together in their chapters) and detail speculations, how they feel about separating from czn and skytali, staying to work there (like sunwoo, jeonghui, and jiyoon), and even having a special chapter inspired by subin's twitter post with the bunnies at the restaurant.. it's very nostalgic and melancholic, your heart feels calm as you read ^^. as an endeul, it made me feel happy for the members, knowing that they've gone on paths that they know they'll be truly happy with.. but they'll still find ways to be together that's all!! maybe nainai will make a bigger post with all her recs, but that's for another day..
