It is a common species of green pigeon found in the Indian subcontinent. It is the state bird of Maharashtra. The species feeds on fruit, including many species of Ficus. They forage in flocks, in the early morning they are often seen sunning on the tops of emergent trees in dense forest areas. They especially are found sitting in couples on tree branches. They prefer semi evergreen forests, deciduous forest, wooded habitats and secondary forests up to 800 meter. The breeding season is between March to June. During the courtship the male puffs out his throat and breast, lowers his wings, ruffles out his feathers. Yellow footed green pigeon is a Schedule โ€“ IV bird, according to wildlife (Protection) act, 1972 and classified as Least Concern (LC) by the IUCN. It is a very important forest species as it performs seed dispersal. However they are threatened by habitat loss and hunting. #ncsn #wildlifeofnashik #statebird #awarness #conservation #birdhabitat #biidiversity #ecology #nashikforest #ecosystem #westernghat #birds #endemic #ebird #environmentprotection #nashik #saveearth #maharashtra_treasures #birdcaptures #birdbehavior #discoverwildlife #maharashtra_ig #nashikgram #nashikpixel #indiatravel #nashikguideapp #nashikguide #nashikblog (at Nashik - the Best Climate City) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPIJG47BiBo/?utm_medium=tumblr
