lover from another nation ~ hcs .
characters !! all the genshin men i could think of rn...
note !! it's been a while since i've written hcs for a lot! aaaah just some thoughts i had today (i had a few culture shocks here and there when i met up with new friends hahahah)
~ m o n d s t a d t ~
grabbing zhongli by the hand to dance and sing in the middle of the square because mondstadters live for the festivities! he quickly learns to freestyle dance along with you, moving with the crowd and cheers and wine. (remember that Tangled scene? yes)
kaveh wasn't sure how to react the day you ordered hard liquor on your first date. sure, your freedom and love for a good drink is one of the things which made him fall for you but wow– are you really gonna down that many glasses on a date? what do you mean you're still sober?
ayato finds himself in love with the way you sing. it doesn't follow the rules of inazuman opera at all; it's much more freeing (much like how his house help sings as he does chores) and you'd tell him stories and the history of your homeland in the form of songs. no mondstadter could ever forget the songs they grew up listening to!
heizou being almost appalled by your rather... robust and reckless nature. you don't have any backup plans whenever a situation goes south, you simply hold his hand, smile, and say "we go where the wind blows!"
~ l i y u e ~
diluc having chopsticks as part of your dining utensils because sometimes, you're more comfortable eating with it (let's not forget often having rice on the table! he must learn the joys of garlic rice with his steak <3)
dainsleif stays by your side as you offer incense and fruits to your ancestors. he whispers quiet prayers, bows when you do, and helps you clean their altars. he finds solace in the familial piety of liyuens– it makes him wish he could honor his ancestors with the same kind of peace as you do.
kazuha getting tongue tied over the language being so similar to inazuman but also so different– why are some of the characters the same? why are the meanings different? there's a bit of miscommunication in the start, but you both find your own ways to understand each other when words fail.
we all know gorou has always wanted to climb the mountains of liyue and you made it possible! meeting him by the docks and touring him around your home nation, you made sure to pick hiking routes with the most scenic spots, even managing to tour him around the jade palace and the floating lone island.
~ i n a z u m a ~
kaeya has no idea how you sit on the floor while being comfortable. you've made him sit with you once while reading a book, after that, his bones ached for days! shaking every time he stood back up!
albedo met you in the irodori festival- he painted you for practice and spark between you started. the long distance was difficult at first, but his long letters always had a little drawing of you and you'd send back the scent of cherry blossoms. klee would also send you letters, asking you to come visit soon!
childe loves a new fighting style; like most sword users in inazuma, you followed the raiden shogun's teachings– swift, efficient, and at one with the sword. he loves how you fight and it's often how you end your dates!
cyno was almost confident that you were playing a prank the day you said you'll make him your specialty and you showed him a platter of raw seafood. it's "sashimi and ngiri" you say, and he waited for you to explain the pun of your joke. it wasn't a joke.
~ s u m e r u ~
thoma is quite used to mondstadters and inazumans, two very different cultures, then he meets you and your sumeru upbringing! you show him how to cook foods that can be eaten with hands, and your menu is often so colorful he can't help but admire it!
itto doesn't really understand the study culture of sumeru, but he totally supports whatever it is you're talking about and tries to add in comments (his comments don't exactly make sense though...)
scaramouche, in his "path of redemption and healing", unwillingly gets involved with you as you show him around the beautiful parts of sumeru! you argue that he needs a different, better outfit with a color scheme that matches his vision. he insists that the hat stays. you tell him he looks like an aranara.
~ s n e z h n a y a ~
al haitham was almost concerned the day you got a heatstroke after being in the desert for no more than a few minutes. snezhnaya has prepared you for harsh weather, but never the heat. soon enough your lover is carrying around heatstroke-first aid packs just for you.
bundling up tighnari's fluffy ears before setting foot in snezhnaya because you just know the cold would practically freeze them off. his tail also gets wrapped and bundled warm in the large coats you wear, protection from the harsh snow. he says he looks like a big lummox.
note !! alright, choose your favorite dynamic! i personally think mondstadters with liyue/inazuma would be interesting maybe because i want to force feed them the joys of rice...
// if i misinterpreted a culture then umm... just know it wasn't intentional and let's consider it a real thing in teyvats culture 🫣😎

National Holidays in the Ninja Villages + Bonus
I've had this idea in mind for a while, and now I finally got to write it down. Feel free to use these for your own works. Please tag me so I can read em all! <33
Iwagakure: The Lunar Lights of Gratitude The moon has a special place in the heart of every Iwa citizen. To them, it is a part of the earth, now observing its mother body from space. So naturally, the spectacle of a blue/super moon is a special occasion in Iwagakure. To honor and greet the moon, which is actually called "daughter" in the earth country's language, large fireworks are organized every new moon after a blue moon. As previously established, the earth country's firework industry is the largest, which Iwa shinobi are very proud of. Lighting the sky on fire and turning night into daytime is the Iwa way of giving back some of the light that the moon gives us at night.
Tumblr media
Kirigakure: The Moonshine Sea Festival Despite the rivalry between the land of earth and the land of water, there is one thing they have in common, which is their spiritual connection to the moon and space. To water country citizens, especially the fishermen, the moon is a protector and guardian of the night, along with the stars. They strengthen the their connection to their biggest source of both faith and fear: the sea. The special climate in the water country, combined with its great biodiversity give a great habitat for biolumescent plankton, turning the sea itself into a starry night sky. It is one of the only pieces of culture that has been preserved, since the celebration itself was founded by the water country's union of fishermen, who don't belong to a particular clan with a kekkei genkai; most of the kekkei genkai wielders in Kiri have been wiped out, along with their culture, traditions and religions.
Tumblr media
Sunagakure: Winter's Return The wind country is often ravaged by agonozingly hot summers, sand storms and heat waves are not a rarity in this country. While foreigners might groan and roll their eyes at the thought of the return to cold, foggy winter days, in Sunagakure it is a day for celebration. On the day where the sun stays for the longest, in the middle of the year, a large celebration is held across the nation. The way it is celebrated is different from family to family, and every Suna family is convinced that their way is the right one. Typically, markets are closed the whole day, and any missions rank B or below are halted for the day.
Tumblr media
Kumogakure: Whale Festival of Generosity During winter, whales can be found emigrating along the lightning country's coast line, towards the land of iron. This holiday once came to be to celebrate the whales emigration towards a more prosperous habitat to mate and provide enough food for their young - a truly generous gesture. Over the years, many kumo shinobi have forgotten the old tale behind this festival, and it has turned into more of a mere gift giving occasion. And yet, it is widely popular and celebrated throughout the whole country.
Tumblr media
Konoha: Cherry and Plum Blossom Viewing In Konoha, Hanami is annually celebrated. It is a custom celebrating the transitionary nature of cherry and plum blossoms blooming in spring.
Tumblr media
BONUS: Uchiha Clan Honoring one's ancestors and traditions is of high importance to the Uchiha. Every year, on a clear fall night, the whole clan gathers together to light up little candles using their katon. The tealights are arranged in the Uchiha crest and left to light up the night and the clan share the evening together eating dinner, drinking hot tea and praying at the nakano shrine.

That's all, folks!

Date Outfit and Location
Kai Kalama | (She/They)
Burgundy red dress that falls just past their knees with a boob slit held together by simple straight gold clasps. The sides, starting just below her ribcage and reaching to her waist, have a gap with three simple gold chains attached. Overtop they wore a cropped black leather jacket that reaches just past her boobs. She chose to pair it with golden sun earrings and gold rings to bring attention to their black nails as well as black ankle strap heels.
Kai chose to take Reader to Morimoto's, a fancy and expensive sushi restaraunt that can take months to get a reservation at. It happens to be Reader's dream restaraunt to visit but they've never had a chance to go to because of the prices.
Zane Julien | (She/her)
Pale blue circle skirt with snowdrops sewn along the right side, with a white off-shoulder cardigan, paired with blue converse. Simple clay earrings made to look like snowdrops, and a simple necklace with a shard of diamond bring the entire outfit together.
Zane chose to take Reader to an Interactive Museum because of their mutual love of museums and Readers natural curiosity. It is one of the largest museums in the country of Ninjago and incredibly popular with an aquariam inside.
Cole Brookstone | (They/them)
Deep cut silk white blouse over a black, sleeveless turtleneck paired with a simple silver chain, and a singular black pearl hanging from his earlobe. They wore black jeans with it as well, a wallet chain, and black boots.
Reader decided on the Food Festival, a time when people from all over Ninjago Country gather in the streets and set up stalls, a good opportunity for Cole's first dip back into festivals.
Jay Walker | (She/Her)
Simple blue jeans with bluberry bushes sewn up the calves, tight white sleeveless turtleneck, with a baby blue cardigan that she can easily take off. She paired it with white sneakers, a blue bead anklet, and a string pearl necklace.
Reader chose to take Jay out to a Trampoline Park, the largest in Ninjago, since they both enjoy fun and it has multiple different sections that include laser tag, putt putt, and an obstacle course she hopes to challenge him in.
Lloyd Garmadon | (She/her)
Calf length, tight black turtleneck dress with golden designs along the chest and green glass beads to further bring the designs to life, and off the shoulder loose sleeves with a cuff to keep it from spilling over hands. Black kitten pumps, a gold lotus wrap bracelet, and emerald drop earrings bring the entire outfit together.
Lloyd chose to take Reader out to a fancy restaruant in one of the most expensive places to impress her, even though he doesn't need too. But she is excited to have a date with him, and has never been wined and dined before.
Morro | (She/her)
Ankle length sheer black skirt with pale pink cherry blossoms over black leggings and pale pink sneakers. A pale pink silk wrap around shirt with kimono-esque sleeves and cloud designs along the bottom of the sleeves, paired with a simple silver ring and cherry blossom earrings.
Morro chose to take Reader to a Lantern Festival being hosted in Ninjaho's National Park. The park itself is huge, and so is the Lantern Festival, but its also a little pricey so Reader never had the opportunity to go, even though she wished to.
A/n: The actual dates will be posted one by one as I hope for them to be more detailed, but hope you all enjoy this little tidbit.

Enough
Rating: T
Genre: Canon Divergent AU, Hurt No Comfort, Hanahaki Disease
Chapter: 3 of 4
Summary: As Katara tries to live with the knowledge that Aang does not return her love, she struggles with a mysterious illness that is slowly choking off her breath.
Ch 3 written for @kataang-week Day 8: Free Day (Cherry Blossoms)
Read on AO3
————–
Chapter 3
“And so, cherry blossoms represent the nature of human existence: glorious and full of life, yet also fleeting and short-lived.”
King Kuei walks at the head of the group, the tall point of his crown bobbing as he explains the meaning of the blooms filling the trees that line both sides of the promenade. Bosco ambles along beside him with a matching hat perched between his brown, furry ears. Katara and her father, along with Toph, Haru and his father, and an assortment of officials and other honored guests, follow in the king’s wake.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year in Ba Sing Se, but this year is different. King Kuei invited prominent figures from every nation, as well as people regarded as war heroes—including those who fought and were captured in the invasion of the Fire Nation.
This year, the festival is more than just a celebration of a natural wonder—it’s a celebration of a world finally healing from the wounds of a century of war. Katara, her father, and the other Water Tribe warriors and their families arrived yesterday. Today is the tour of the palace gardens, a vast park of ponds and streams, orchards and trees. Only a select few guests were invited to attend—including the Avatar.

✧The Wonderful World of Sveltana✧
Tumblr media
✧Sveltana✧-The world that ✧STARWARD✧ takes place in. A world rich in culture and history, said to be protected by a goddess that watches over them from the stars.
Tumblr media
✧Yamazukara✧-An empire in the South-East of Sveltana. With an Emperor ruling over it's vast lands and a Shogun presiding over the military affairs. Yamazukara is known for it's military prowess and beautiful cherry blossoms, which is where it namesake is derived from.
Tumblr media
✧Alvena✧- A Republic in the southeast of Sveltana. Known for it's technological advancements and advanced society, many well-known inventors and scholars originate from Alvena. Unlike other major nations in Sveltana, Alvena bows to no King and instead elects two consuls every two years and has a large Senate made out of both nobles and commoners alike.
Tumblr media
✧Forsythia✧- A kingdom in the East. Forsythia's name is derived from the word Forsyth, meaning "man of peace". True to it's name, Forsythia has mantained good relations with all of it's neighbours and hasn't been touched by any major wars in the past three centuries. It is known for it's beautiful art and gorgeous flower fields
Tumblr media
✧Moroz✧-A distant land in the far north of Sveltana. It is prone to harsh blizzards and has a freezing climate. Unlike the rest of world, the people there do not worship Sveltana's Goddess. Rather, they have their own deity, the goddess Shiva. Moroz is closed off from the rest of Sveltana, which has allowed them to preserve an untouched culture for over a millennia
Tumblr media
✧Khepra✧-The Kingdom of Khepra is in the Southwest of Sveltana. Khepra has a desert climate and is home to a variety of exotic animals. While they have a pantheon of their own deities, they still have the utmost respect for Sveltana's goddess. Despite it's burning weather conditions, Khepra is an incredibly popular place for tourists. Khepra's citizen's are known for their kind demeanor, and their kingdom has it's own distinct and wonderful culture.
Tumblr media
✧Althea✧-The Althean Empire is one of the oldest standing political powers in Sveltana. It neighbours Alvena due to their shared history. Alvena was once part of Althea before a rebellion 5 centuries ago. The two are on good terms currently, though certain citizens believe that Althea should still have full control over Alvena. Althea is also incredibly religous, there are many temples and shrines dedicated to Sveltana's goddess and several festivals and ceremonies dedicated to her. Althea and Moroz aren't on good terms due to this, Althea claims that Moroz worships a false god. The two haven't sided once in all of Sveltana's history.
Tumblr media
✧Astria✧-An ancient kingdom that has fallen eras ago due to an unknown tragedy. It is said that Astria was in the very center of ancient Sveltana, and that it was favoured by the goddess, thought not much is known about it, supposed remnants of Astrian culture are scattered all over Sveltana. It is said that descendants of Astria's royal lineage are born with special powers given to them by Sveltana's goddess. Rumour has it that many experiments were conducted to replicate this power. It is said that only one has ever succeeded

The topic of discussion for the day is the paladin's homelands.
Allura isn't certain what got them on the subject- she'd arrived just after they'd begun to talk about it, just in time to hear Lance wax poetic about the beach. Hunk had eagerly involved himself in the discussion, the two of them talking about the similarities and differences between their home islands. Allura listened with vested interest. They had beaches on Altea as well, and it seemed that each of her paladins had visited a beach on their home planet at least once.
Pidge talked about her home next. How she was born up North- whatever that meant, she'd never specified- and then had later moved down South with her family when she was still very young. She talked about the snowy mountains and the lakeside her family still went back to visit from time to time. She'd talked about snowball fights and sledding, how they were actually fun parts of going outdoors.
Shiro spoke of his home- another island nation, though one much larger than either Lance or Hunk's. He spoke of its rich traditions, of watching the cherry blossoms in the spring, of the first shrine visit of the New Year's. He'd also spoken of his home at the Galaxy Garrison, of learning to celebrate Christmas with his fiancee, of showing up at some place called a... waffle house at 2 AM on a school night because neither he nor Adam could sleep, but hadn't wanted to stay in.
She spoke to them of Altea. Of the fields of juniberries, of her beloved berry festival. Of sneaking out from formal events and stepping on her instructor's feet when they'd tried to teach her how to dance. She spoke fondly of watching the stars with her father, and of watching the sunrise with her mother. It hurt to speak of it, but at the same time, sharing her memories with the paladins made them feel all the sharper in her mind.
It only occurred to her once she was done that Keith had never spoken to them of his homeland.
His shoulders jerked when she asked, like he hadn't expected to be included. He and Shiro shared a look that she did not quite understand, but eventually Keith heaved a long sigh. He spoke briefly of the desert, but did not linger on the subject. He excused himself quickly afterwards, ignoring the grumbles that he earned from his fellow paladins about being unsociable.
(It was only later that Allura learned that Keith did not have a homeland- not one that he remembered, anyways.)

Sad LinZin
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/51166699/chapters/129563737
TW for miscarriage.
Notes: I've always considered why Lin never had kids, her not wanting them is perfectly valid and in-line with her character but she also has a lot of maternal moments and I could really see her as a mother or wanting a child. This fic was born from the idea that maybe she did want kids and just couldn't have them and the tension that would create in her relationship and how she would cope with it (Hint:not well).
Summary: Lin breaks the news to Tenzin.
Chapter 4: "Sakura"
Tenzin enters the guest room, discovering Lin staring into space, her mouth contorted in a grimace. A hiss escapes her lips. His mother is running healing water over what he assumes is the source of her pain. Had she gotten injured at work ? Did she eat something bad?
She turns towards him. Her glassy eyes staring at him, a silent plea. He swiftly moves across the room to comfort her. He envelops one of her hands in his own and begins rubbing her back with the other. Usually she would hate to be this affectionate in front of other people. Something was wrong. She looks on the verge of tears. Lin Beifong rarely cried.
“Lin what’s wrong?” he asks, panicked.
When he hears the words leave Lin’s lips his heart skips a beat. It takes a moment for him to realize what she said and what that meant. Silent tears stream down his face, equal parts confusion, grief and concern for her.
He had just learned about the baby, just began to lay out plans and to grow excited. Now it is all gone. The spirits had given them a blessing just to take it away.
He had imagined a little girl with Lin’s beautiful eyes and the sweet giggle she only let a few people hear. A perfect, chubby little girl. He had already debated between countless names and decided on a few to talk to Lin about. Fang, Lotus, Ikki.
Sakura was his favorite. It evoked memories of visiting the fire nation with Lin. Excitedly running through the streets of Caldera and eating sweets. The humidity of the islands which he hates; is delightful to her.  It is her favorite place in the world; a secret she kept well guarded. “It just feels right,” she had explained to him. Something about the blazing red sun called her. The heat suited her; she always hated the cold.  If given her pick of any color she would choose red every time. Red like the sun. Red like the roses she adored. Red like blood…
Sakura, like the nation she loved, and like the delicate blossoms that remind Tenzin of her. Pink and sweet smelling. A sign of a beautiful, fresh spring’s arrival.
Sakura, the cherry blossom wallpaper Lin had in her room. The embroidery of her bed spread. The festival she went to each year.
             Sakura.
Sakura, their blooms only last for two weeks. The joy they bring is fleeting.
White and pink petals fade to brown.
            Sakura.
Sakura, the precious blossoms wilt and die. They never get to see the spring they announce.
Sakura, the perfect blooms, fall to the dirty ground.
Sakura, they decay, and return to the earth from which they came.
Sakura, who would weep for something as fragile and fleeting as a flower ?
            He would.
He would weep forever. Yet he sees the pain on her face, how she is gritting her teeth to bare the agony. His pales in comparison to hers. He squeezes her hand.
Please, don’t fade like a flower my love. Please, he thinks but does not say.
A blood curdling scream of grief leaves her lips. He speaks, she does not hear. He stares, she does not see. The healing water does nothing for her pain, mental or physical. Katara returns it to the water skin. At first her breathing accelerates then, it halts altogether. No air finds her lungs.
            Please. Please, breathe.
