Whenever I see someone who is not Brazilian using this gif I wonder if they know that it is from a Brazilian soapopera from the 2000s called senhora do destino (mistress of destiny) that has a chokehold on pop culture to this day

This character is the villain of the story, who steals a baby from another woman and raises the kid as her own. She kills a bunch of people usually by pushing them down the stairs or with scissors and this scene from the meme is her slowly going mad when she realizes she’s getting her comeuppance and going to prison. It is a tragic story but she is a meme because she is stereotypically evil and has lines that are comical and are memes 20 years later such as seeing a gay couple and going “dykes… I can smell the leather from afar”

I´m gonna be real with y´all

I think the latine characters polls are fun and all but it does bother me when I see chracters that are literally not latino, were not made my latin americans or in latin american countries, not only being qualified but also winning against cannonically latino character. It also feels a bit unfair like, of course a character from a big non latam media is gonna win over a Mônica or a Mafalda, because wider audiences know them.

And I´m like listen, Goku and Sonic and Lelouch they do have latine swag but they are not latino, it does not feel fair to pit them against famous latine characters.

Like Turma da Mônica is not just a comic book. Those comics were part of pratically EVERYONE´S upbringing, they helped so many young children learn to read, and create that reading habit. The chracaters are fun and diverse, and when their audience grew up, THEY EVEN MADE A VERSION WITH THE CHARACTERS BEING OLDER!

Or Mafalda, who is Argentinian, and her comic strips used to be on every single portuguese grammar book ever. Teachers used her to develop (or try to develop) our reading comprehension, our critical thinking.

The telenovela chracters like Soraya and Nazaré Tedesco, they are iconic, you guys have no idea how telenovelas are indeed a huge thing here, it´s not s fucking stereotype.

These characters are intrinsic to our culture, our upbringing, we bond over them, and then to see them loose to fucking Lelouch, from a goddamned anime (WHERE HE IS NOT EVEN FROM ANIME LATAM) is just....i don´t know, desincouraging.

I think it should be separate polls: one for latam characters exclusevily and the other for latam swag

anyways that´s my opinion, y´all know how I feel about latam identity in general

Il Santuario di Fatima, in Portogallo, è uno dei punti di riferimento del culto mariano, oltre ad essere meta di pellegrini provenienti da tutto il mondo e si trova nella Cova da Iria, che fino al 1917 era un luogo del tutto sconosciuto nel comune di Ourém. Fu a Fatima che la Madonna, nelle sembianze della Vergine del Rosario, apparve più volte a tre giovani  pastori, Jacinta, suo fratello Francisco e sua cugina Lucia. All’inizio, la Chiesa fu riluttante a riconoscere il fenomeno miracoloso, che, invece, riscosse subito grande adesione popolare e soltanto nel 1930, il vescovo di Leiria ritenne veritiere le testimonianze sulle apparizioni, e da quel momento la località ebbe un grande sviluppo, così che Fatima divenne dapprima una vila (cittadina), nel 1977, e una cidade (città), nel 1997. La fama del Santuario è cresciuta durante il pontificato di Giovanni Paolo II, grande devoto della Madonna di Fatima che, nel 1982, visitò il Santuario per ringraziare la Madonna per essere sopravvissuto all’attentato di cui era stato vittima l’anno precedente. Nel 2000, durante la sua terza visita a Fatima, il papa annunciò la beatificazione di Jacinta e Francisco, ai quali il Vaticano riconobbe il miracolo di una guarigione miracolosa. Il 13 maggio è la data in cui avvenne la prima apparizione, alla quale ne seguirono altre sempre il tredicesimo giorno di ogni mese fino  a ottobre, ed oggi è il giorno delle principali cerimonie religiose di Fatima. Uno dei momenti più importanti è la Procissão das Velas (Processione delle Candele), nella notte del 12 maggio, quando le candele portate dai fedeli, che riempiono la grande spianata del Santuario, creano un’atmosfera di grande devozione religiosa. Ogni mese migliaia di pellegrini giungono a Fatima qui da diverse zone del paese, molti di loro a piedi seguendo sentieri e strade di campagna, o lungo quattro Cammini, noti come il Cammino del Tago, il Cammino del Nord, il Cammino di Nazaré e il Cammino della Costa , che possono essere agevolmente seguiti anche da chi non conosce la regione utilizzando i segnavia sul terreno. Entrando nel Recinto delle Preghiere, si notsa sul fondo la Basílica de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fatima con una torre di 65 metri e, al centro, il Monumento al Sacro Cuore di Gesù e, su uno dei lati, c’è la Cappella delle Apparizioni, che si trova dove la Madonna aveva chiesto ai piccoli pastori di costruire una cappella. Sul lato opposto fu inaugurata nel 2007 un’altra chiesa, l’Igreja da Santíssima Trindade, con 125 metri di diametro, senza alcun sostegno intermedio, e con posti a sedere per circa 8700 persone. Il progetto è dell’architetto greco Alexandros Tombazis, con interventi di altri artisti, come i portoghesi Álvaro Siza Vieira e Pedro Calapez e, all’esterno, una Croce Alta in bronzo, opera del tedesco Robert Schad. Nel complesso, oltre al Santuario, si possono visitare il Museu de Arte Sacra e Etnologia, Museu de Cera, Museu Fátima 1917, il Presépio e Aldeia de Belém Animados. A circa 2 km, si trova Aljustrel, dove vivevano i piccoli pastori, oltre a Loca do Anjo e a Valinhos, altri luoghi legati alle apparizioni.
