🐟 Fishuary 2024 Day Twelve: Small Fish 🐟

Fortunately, in the South American blackwater river habitats, it's easy to keep count of your school when all of you shine and glimmer! I drew some neon tetras (Paracheirodon innesi) since they're on the smaller side, and super cute :]

I have figured out the manual focus function on my phone camera, which means I can now show off my neon tetras, which are so fat that three separate people have asked me if they are pregnant.

The answer is no, sorry, they just won't stop taking bites of the loach pellets.

Prompt: Small Fish

The neon tetra, paracheirodon innesi, the super tiny little guy. Evidence that freshwater fish can still be colorful and beautiful! These guys are native to the Amazon basin. I have no idea why my brain thought we domesticated fish like we did with dogs, considering how often these dudes are seen in aquariums practice, but no, they’re wild!

Like many fish, these guys will change color when they rest or sleep! Their iridescence fades to grey and black, allowing them to better blend into the shadows to avoid predators. They can also change the color of the bright blue stripe according to the surrounding lighting conditions!!

Day 12: Small Fish

Looking a bit better a few days after big maintenance. The new plants are settling well it looks like, the stem plants are growing well. Can't wait to be back home after work and stare at my aquarium some more. I didn't get to do the last adaptions I made for shrimps yet, I got sick last weekend, so that's still on my to-do-list. Not sure yet if I'm going for Amano shrimp or neocaridina. I've had neocaridina before but without much luck. They're my favourite, though! So cute.
