Have you ever wanted to switch it up from typical family gameplay but still want to feel the coziness and don't know where to start? Then this challenge is for you! Welcome to the DINK Lifestyle - ie dual income, no kids.

The main idea of this challenge is to play the life of a sim/sim couple that has no kids! Sometimes it can be refreshing to approach the sims from a new perspective, and in a world of sims challenges that surround having and raising kids, I thought it would be fun to have one where the whole thing is having a fulfilling life/game without kids. Especially now that with Life and Death, your game doesn’t have to end just because the main household died, why not focus on something other than kids?

you'll need all packs to be able to do this challenge.

rules: no money cheats! you can, however, cheat your sim to have a max of level 5 skill levels for 5 skills of your choice. (for example, you can cheat your sims to have lvl 5 baking, lvl 5 flower arranging, lvl 3 gardening, lvl 4 photography, and lvl 2 handiness). this is optional, but will be beneficial to give you better choices for degrees relative to your sims traits/story! Long lifespan not required but highly recommended.

speaking of, your sim can have any aspiration, traits, and likes/dislikes you want! choose to your hearts content! this challenge is more about shifting how you play vs the kind of sim you want. that said, obviously, you'll want to avoid family-based traits and aspirations.

finally, NO KIDS! you can play this challenge as loose or as strict as you'd like, however, the one main rule is NO KIDS! You can play this either as your sim not wanting kids and/or (by using the custom gender settings in CAS) they can be infertile.

alright, here we go~

Young Adult

you, whether by choice or by nature (i.e., infertility), are not going to have kids. oh well, that doesn't mean your life is over! you can still have a cozy, comfortable, and romantic life without kids! so let's set you up for success! ♡

you can move into any of these worlds to start your household: willow creek, oasis springs, tartosa, mt komorebi, sulani, chestnut ridge, henford-on-bagley, brindleton bay, or windenburg. You must start as only one sim, no pets. move into a small lot (20x20 or 20x15 or you can move into a 1bd or studio in a rental lot if you have For Rent and place a rental lot in your selected world).

apply to university, choose any degree of interest but only take 3 courses at a time (no electives).

move into the university housing

join one university organization

make three friends, one must be college best friend (take lots of photos of your friends!)

have a college partner, break up before graduation.

"move" back into the world you set your sim up in.

before getting a job, 'find' yourself by taking a 7 day vacation in any of these worlds (obviously, not the one you live in, though): granite falls, sulani, mt komorebi, tomarang, henford-on-bagley, or tartosa.

have a short, romantic fling with a local during the vacation. end it on the last day.

return home and get a job related to your degree! Congratulations!

adopt a pet of your choice with your bonus money.

make 3 friends with locals! (you can make some!)

make a local best friend! (again, can be premade!)

make two clubs! one for your college friends and one for your local friends! meet up to connect whenever you want at your sims' favorite local spot!

earn silver doing a social event of your choice with your local and college friends!

go on a 3-day vacation with your local friends to any of these worlds (unless you live there and/or been there before): granite falls, sulani, mt komorebi, tomarang, selvadorado, san myshuno, or windenburg.

it's time to focus on your health! start up on the wellness skill, whether it be through yoga, meditation, or both, is up to you!

make a third (and final) club for your coworkers and make friends with at least two coworkers!

go on 3 dates with 3 different sims

go on a date with a 4th sim, go on 3 dates with that 4th sim before asking to be in an exclusive relationship. (note: if after the 2nd date the sim autonomously asks to be in a relationship with your sim, you can say yes!)

get engaged (wait a min of an in-game week)!

throw an engagement party!

vacation with your fiance in any of these worlds (unless you live there and/or been there before): granite falls, sulani, mt komorebi, tomarang, henford-on-bagley, or tartosa.

Adult

you have a hobby, a degree, a career, friends, and even a true love! congratulations, but your life still isn't over! you've got so much more to do and see! the world is your oyster! ♡

have a small wedding or elope and have a dinner party with friends after!

go on a honeymoon in any of these worlds (unless you live there and/or been there before): granite falls, sulani, mt komorebi, tomarang, henford-on-bagley, selvadorado or tartosa.

adopt a second pet of your choice!

move into a larger home! (a 30x20 lot up to a 40x30 lot)

quit your job!

go back to college and earn a second degree of your choice, take 3 mandatory classes + one elective for every term! remain living in your home, though! (commuting is not that bad anyway!)

start a bucket list! complete it as you go along on your own time, but scrap anything that has to do with having kids!

pick up writing as a hobby! max it and write two best-selling books of the genre of your choice! sell one to a publisher (available at level 5) and another to a literary digest (available at level 9)!

vacation with your spouse in any of these worlds (unless you live there and/or been there before): granite falls, sulani, mt komorebi, tomarang, henford-on-bagley, san myshuno, selvadorado, or tartosa.

Pick up a new hobby of your choice! You've got all the time in the world, now!

open your own retail store, vet clinic, small business, or restaurant in your home world/town. when you have enough employees to be able to run the place when you're not on the lot, you can get a new job using either of your degrees!

max your positive reputation! once it's been maxed, host a charity event for your community (theme it however you want!)

Elder

you’ve had a very fulfilling life, but it’s not over quite yet! these are your golden years, after all. let’s make them memorable. ♡

if you've reached the peak of your career, retire! you've worked so hard and did a great job!

host a retirement party with your friends and coworkers! (can be any type of party you’d like - house party, dinner party, bbq, kava party, even a charity event! however you feel your sim would kick off their retirement)

have a small wedding event for a vow renewal with just your closest friends!

go on two separate vacations wherever (and whenever) you want!

write and publish an autobiography! you've done so much in your life, and the world should know!

start up a wellness club for elders! it can be hard to put yourself out there as you grow older, so lets get some initiative and get healthy!

if you haven’t already, complete your soul journey and bucket list!

death has arrived. but it’s not the end. after living a long, fulfilling life it’s time to be reborn.

Thank you to all who filled out the survey! The consensus was to keep going with challenges, keep them in current format, try to increase our visibility. We’ll be looking at other hosting options but will stay at ProBoards for now as we search for alternatives. We’ll keep the lights on and see how things go! Our challenge for February/March 2025 is Resolution.

A new year often brings thoughts of resolutions—from small ones like “I’m not going to eavesdrop while lurking in the hedges under Mr Frodo’s window “ to more significant ones like “I will not swear an Oath relegating me and my sons to the Everlasting Dark if we don’t fulfill it.”

Making a resolution is one thing, but keeping to it is another.

A resolution may be a promise that you keep to yourself. Or it may be a state of mind—being resolved or determined.

A literary resolution is the conclusion of a story—the resolving of all the conflicts between characters.

Which type of resolution will you choose for your story or art? Will it be a character keeping a promise to themselves? Or finding the determination and resolve to see a task through to its end? Perhaps you will give us an alternative or reimagining of an ending to an event or story line.

Whatever you choose, please know we are eager to see your creation!

The Worst Sim Ever Challenge – Sims 4

Welcome to "The Worst Sim Ever" challenge! In this challenge, you’ll create a Sim who isn’t exactly living the dream. They’re lazy, messy, and can’t seem to get ahead in life. Your goal is not to thrive but to survive at the bare minimum—and maybe pass those traits on to the next generation. Here's how to play:

Create Your Sim

Traits:

Mandatory Traits:

Lazy – Your Sim would rather nap or watch TV than work.

Slob – Cleanliness? What’s that?

Glutton – Your Sim eats way too much, especially junk food.

Optional Traits:

Unflirty – Romance is hard when you can barely take care of yourself.

Childish – They still love their toys and cartoons.

Goofball – If your Sim isn't good at life, at least they’re good at being funny.

Aspiration:

Mischief, Comedy, or Love (or pick something that seems achievable but doesn’t lead to great success).

Rules of the Challenge

1. Career

Job Restrictions: Your Sim can only have low-paying jobs like fast food worker, manual labor, or a job that depends on tips like a Comedian or Street Performer (use the musician or comedian freelancer careers or busk in public spaces).

Advancement Limits: Your Sim should not advance beyond level 3 in their career unless it's a tip-based one (e.g., musician or comedian). You're meant to be a chronic underachiever.

2. Education

High School: Your Sim barely made it through high school. If you're starting as a teen, make sure they don’t do their homework regularly. They must graduate with a C or lower.

No Higher Education: Absolutely no college for your Sim unless somehow you get accepted in but you will fail out.

3. Home Life

Living Space: Start in the cheapest, dirtiest apartment or house you can afford (if using the City Living expansion, pick a lot with the "Needs TLC" trait).

Cleaning: Your Sim only cleans up when the environment is so bad they can’t function anymore.

Food: Your Sim can only eat snacks, junk food, or delivered food (no home-cooked meals unless it’s quick snacks like chips or cold cuts).

4. Skills

Your Sim cannot excel at skills. The only exceptions are:

Charisma (to keep them barely managing friendships).

Comedy (if you’re trying to make money from tips).

Singing or Dancing (if that's their hustle). All other skills should stay under level 4 to ensure your Sim doesn’t “succeed” too much.

5. Relationships

Friendships: Your Sim can have friends, but no close, dependable friendships unless they’re fellow underachievers or other dysfunctional Sims.

Romance: If they’re in a relationship, it’s dysfunctional—think fights, neglect, or random hookups.

6. Family Life

Having Kids: At least one child is mandatory.

Two-Child Rule: You must have at least two kids:

One must follow in your footsteps and be lazy, unsuccessful, and messy (your "Worst Sim Jr.").

The other must be the opposite—hard-working, neat, and focused on success (your "Best Sim"). This Sim can eventually help better your life or break free from your legacy of failure.

Child Raising: The "Worst Sim Jr." must live a similar life to you—poor grades, no high ambitions, etc. The "Best Sim" must excel in school, gain high-paying jobs, and focus on making life better.

7. Endgame

Worst Sim Jr.: If you choose to continue with them, they must take over the family legacy of being lazy and unsuccessful. They can have kids, and the cycle repeats.

Best Sim: If you choose to continue with them, they must work toward breaking the family curse. This Sim must work hard, save money, and strive for a successful, healthy life, creating a new future for the family.

Challenge Goals

Barely Survive: Your original Sim must never make more than §15,000 in savings. Keep them in a constant state of scraping by.

The Next Generation: Will you continue the cycle of laziness and failure, or will you let your Best Sim break free and turn the family into a successful dynasty?

I spun the wheel and got the prompt "Secret Santa gone wrong" and did a thing ⬆️ and a short one-shot ⬇️

Ian hadn’t it forgotten. How could he? The weather and the endless advertisements constantly reminded him and the shop windows, adorned with fairy lights and artificial snow, left no doubt about which holiday was approaching.

The days leading up to Christmas had been a whirlwind for Ian. Work, family chaos, and the pressure to make everything perfect had consumed him. And somehow he’d completely neglected to get Mickey’s present in time.

It had hit him suddenly one night while lying in bed, Mickey’s head resting on his shoulder, their legs tangled together. Panic coursed through him. Only three days left until Christmas and it would take hours of fighting through crowds at the mall to find the right gift.

After a sleepless night he finally came up with an idea and placed an order the next morning before his first cup of coffee.

He’d gone to an online store Mickey frequented (according to his browsing history). The site promised discreet, fast, and reliable delivery before Christmas.

Without much thought Ian had ordered a black dildo roughly matching his own length. Minimal effort, maximum payoff.

When the package arrived Ian didn’t hesitate. He wrapped it immediately, not even opening the box. There wasn’t time and he was confident Mickey would love it.

Now, on Christmas morning, Mickey was sprawled out on the couch, his legs draped lazily across Ian’s lap as he slowly tore through the wrapping paper.

Ian chewed nervously on his bottom lip, watching Mickey lift the lid of the box. His eyes darted from Mickey to the open box and back again.

Mickey’s eyebrows shot up in surprise as he pulled the silicone toy from the packaging.

“Purple?” Mickey turned the dildo over in his hands, grinning. “Is this your new favorite color?”

Ian’s face flushed bright red, the color creeping up to his ears. “I thought… I thought it was black! I didn’t check before wrapping it!”

Leaning back, Mickey’s grin widened as he examined the dildo, which very obviously matched Ian’s length and girth. He let it rest in his palm, his thumb brushing over the silicone. “You know, I’d have gone with orange, too.”

Ian groaned, burying his face in his hands. “Oh my god. Please stop.”

Mickey held the dildo up, twirling it slightly. “Although, I think purple suits me just fine.”

Ian face was still burning. “You actually like it? Or are you just messing with me?”

Mickey leaned forward, setting the dildo down on the coffee table before settling himself on Ian’s lap. “You know, the color doesn’t matter when it’s up my ass. Size is what counts.”

Ian stared at him, his blush deepening. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.

“Your face matches your hair when you’re embarrassed,” Mickey teased, smirking as he looped his arms around Ian’s neck. Leaning in close to his ear, he whispered, “Come on, Santa. Let’s see just how good your gift really is.”

Our prompt for March/April is Mothers!

Exploring the idea of mothers in Tolkien lets us go behind the scenes. We have quite a few mothers directly in the narrative, primarily in the Silmarillion—where we see Miriel, Nerdanel, Morwen, Idril, Aredhel, Luthien, Elwing, and even have mentions of Anaire and Earwen.

In The Lord of the Rings we read of Galadriel being Celebrian’s mother and Arwen’s grandmother. Aragorn’s mother Gilraen, Faramir and Boromir’s mother Finduilas, and Rosie Cotton—Sam’s wife—are all mentioned in the narrative.

The Hobbit gives us a memory of Belladonna Took, Bilbo’s mother, and mentions of Thorin’s sister Dis—the mother of Fili and Kili.

The stories of any of these characters would make for fascinating fic! Or art!

There are many who remain unmentioned and unnamed—Legolas’s mother, Gimli’s, the mothers of generations of Dunedain, of Gondorians, of the Rohirrim, of the Shire. And consider Ungoliant, mother of Shelob!

And mothers among the ranks of orcs.

We are excited to see where this prompt takes you and which character gives you inspiration!
