#new spindle…..
It’s always morally correct to call out of work to spin wool.

You know at first I didn't believe it when fiber artists on tumblr would tell me to be wary of the fiber art slippery slope. And yet. I hear the siren call of the spindle. Fellow crafters help me resist. Tie me to the fucking mast. Please.

sowing: I learned how to use a handspindle with a distaff recently (like you see in historical pictures) and it's SO easy, it's literally so easy, I never really got the hang of hand spindles before but this is so easy, the yarn almost spins itself, I could go through this entire 200g braid in 3 days, I could spin enough to make a whole garment!! Bow before me! I am the king and queen of fibre crafting!!!!
reaping: ouch my hand :(

okay poll time and sorry I only started spinning like a year ago so I don't know every kind of spindle, I included ones I know of and know some of the differences in how they spin. also I assume many people will have an answer that varies depending on what they spin and that's intentional because I want to read everyone's explanations in the tags about why they like what they use (especially if you prefer a supported spindle because they scare me and I want to know what people like about them :)
I know I have very few followers on the crafts sideblog so reblogs for more responses greatly appreciated

Here's a lil' Joltik explorer to brighten your afternoon! His name's Spindle, and he comes from the same roleplay server that brought forth Ares the Marshadow and Abda the (formerly-) Durant. It's long-since stopped, but I adore all the characters that I wound up creating for them.
Here, he's exploring a more familiar setting from the Pokemon Games: Chargestone Cave in Unova! Or possibly Chargestone Cavern in the Terarium, which is more in line with his desire to explore new locales.
...Oh? I've already shared a Spindle before? Yeah, that Spindle grew organically from this Spindle, like how Abda grew from a Durant character with the same name. Though there's another version of the him that serves as an intermediary between the two, which I might post at some point.

Usually, I'm good about saving my work bonus, but I went on a shopping spree this year. One of the first things I bought was a new spindle. It's from KCL, and is one of their ones with swappable shafts. I'm spinning a scrap batt of random wools as a tester, though I'm surprised how much I love the colors.

@kittydesade So my spinning ventures have come to a complete halt for the last month because I have created Abomination #2 on the drop spindle. Out of roving, all gone. I have some more, but I don't want to add it because the spindle is relatively full. So I need to take the yarn off the spindle, but if I do that it will untwist completely.
I asked Spinning Acquaintance how to do this and received these three links but 1) I don't know what any of these words mean 2) I don't have any of this equipment 3) if I take it off the spindle it will unspin how am I supposed to give it a bath it's just going to unspin I can't make it a skein because it will unspin much less tie it in multiple places it will unspin
so! Instead of trying any of these things, I have panicked and done nothing for the last month!
