make sure you have a profile picture: otherwise people will think you're a bot. we currently have a bot infestation right now, so many people block on sight unless you look like a human

reblog stuff you like: reblogging is how this site operates. it's sorta like resharing the original post around, and it'll show up on your blog too so people who follow you will see it. sometimes you can add a comment or tags, but it's not necessary

make your experience better: if you're on desktop, download Firefox, ublock origin, shinmigami eyes, and xkit. these make the website usable, block ads, and let you know who you should murder on sight. if you're on moblie... uh, idk...

turn off tumblr live: literally no one uses it, and it probably steals your data. go to blog settings, dashboard preferences, snooze tumblr live. you'll have to do this every week, and we celebrate that on Snooze Tumblr Live Tuesday

most importantly, have fun: I never really used reddit much, but I know that it was like tumblr in that it was one of the social media sites that was most similar to the forums and message boards of yesteryear. as the internet is slowing being killed off by corporations and capitalism, it's important that we make the most of the small space we have left.

Former Reddit User here, I have to say Tumblr is feeling more at home for me than Reddit ever was, maybe it's the inclusiveness and the feeling of not feeling like you have to win some popularity contest with their 'karma'.

I am non-binary pansexual who leans towards feminine presenting most days, I am also an empathic Witch and a mom of 2 kids (not to mention my ND brain). So to see more inclusiveness here is like badass. Thanks Tumblr for taking us refugees in and being kind towards us! You all rock! 🖤

It’s so sad to me how scared the Twitter and Reddit refugees are of making mistakes on this website.

Dear refugees, as someone who used to be on both Twitter and Reddit but who uses Tumblr the longest of all sites (besides Youtube):

This is the website without cringe culture. Don’t be ashamed. You won’t get downvoted or beat up for even your weirdest opinions because frankly, 90% of the users on this website are either neurodivergent or queer or a mix of both (me, I’m talking about me)

This website is like the table of bullied kids you always used to avoid in highschool.

We all know we’re different, strange, cringy, obsessive.

How to make your custom themed blog

Hey new tumblr users! Welcome and since it was brought up, I’m gonna teach you guys how to put some custom themes into your blogs to make them more uniquely you! First off let’s hit that person shaped icon up in the top right corner!

Once you do that it’ll open a list of options. You wanna hit settings! It’ll come up with your account settings first but we want the blog settings so hit your blog name on the right hand side and you should see something like this!

Make sure enable custom theme is set to on! Then hit edit theme and it’ll send your blog page with edit theme options open! You can either go off from here if you are keeping a basic or know html but if you don’t, keep reading! Also I will provide links to free theme blogs and sites that I’ve used but there are plenty more if you want to find very specific styles/colours/etc by googling tumblr themes with those keywords.

Once you got that specific tumblr theme’s html code up, then hit edit html! 

Copy and paste the html code into the space and hit update preview! Then hit the back arrow up there and you should have the custom options to play around with. Like so:

Fiddle around with those to your liking with colour, links, and so on and you’ll get your own custom blog like this! Make sure you hit save before exiting or you’ll lose everything!

due to all the new tumblr users, as well as a lot of new content being released that people may not want spoiled, i thought i’d give a little tutorial on how to block tags, and some spoiler etiquette!

here on tumblr dot com, we are mostly catered to fandoms. our community here is very conscious of spoilers, and we have certain precautions we take whenever new media comes out.

our way of preventing unwanted spoilers is called filtering. this is where you can actually block a specific tag, so you do not get content tagged with that! this is a great way to avoid spoilers, as well as any content you just don’t particularly like.

To do this, simply go to your profile, click on settings, click on general settings, and then scroll to filtering. From there, you can put in whatever tag you want to block, and now you’re spoiler free. It’s that simple!

As for spoiler etiquette: please remember to tag all your posts correctly! if your post contains spoilers for something that has recently come out, remember to tag it as “[content] spoilers”. For example: “good omens season 2 spoilers” or “good omens spoilers”. this way, we can ensure a happy online environment for everyone!

An example of reasons to block someone - yes your reason can be silly. I've blocked people for posting x reader fics, for shipping my notp, because i didn't like their AU. Not because I don't like them, or have anything against them, I just hate x reader fics in general, or didn't want to see my notp, or I just got tired of seeing their posts in a fandom tag. Rather than demanding they change, I changed how my tag looks to me. And that is responsible blocking. I also block racists, terfs, homophobes, etc. I blocked someone who was mean to me in replies. Do whatever to make your online experience good.
