NOTE: I love writing for this character so much — specifically because I've heard from sooooo many people that my boyfriend looks exactly like him. It actually became such a recurring joke with my friend group that we dressed up as Dick & Barbara Gordon for homecoming. But the resemblance is so uncanny it's actually insane — hence why I love this character so much. I hope you guys enjoy this thing I wrote at three in the morning!!

Dick is so protective, just as a person. Of family, of friends, and especially of you.

If you're a Titan like him, he's the first to jump to your side in a fight — not because he doesn't think you can handle yourself (he knows you can) but because he can't bear not having you in his eye line during a fight. If something were to happen when his back was turned, he'd never quite be able to get over it.

In the middle of the fight, he's constantly shouting to you, asking if you're okay, if you need help. And after the fight he's the first one to you, asking if you're hurt.

And if you're a civilian and you somehow get caught in the middle of his work? Oh my God this man will lose it. His top priority disappears and is instantly replaced by making sure you're safe and well out of the way of danger.

The 'patching up each other's wounds' trope is strong with Dick

He always wants to know how and why each little cut and bruise got there

I feel like his love languages are words of affirmation and physical touch — he loves both giving and receiving them.

He'll always pull you aside to tell you he loves you before he goes into a fight.

He'll reassure you with forehead kisses instead of kisses on the lips. They just feel more safe and comforting.

But the ultimate way he makes you feel safe and comfortable is by cuddling. He loooooves cuddling.

Nothing makes him happier than wrapping his arms around you and holding you tight to him. He loves falling asleep that way, tangled up together, because it lets him know that you feel completely safe around him.

He knows he can be an imposing person, so he always does his best to make you and everyone else feel safe around him.

And let's be honest, that man is a giant teddy bear.

But he can be pretty scary when he wants to be.

Like I kind of said earlier, if someone is messing with you, he's the first one to be by your side to defend you

At the end of the day, he loves coming home to you and knowing that you'll be there for him every step of the way.

Dick is a pretty selfless person — he's always concerned about other people, he's a bit of a people pleaser, etc.

His favorite, of course, is calling you a ❝ Good girl ❞ and telling you how well you're doing.

He loves to go down on you. There's nothing he finds more beautiful than looking up at you from in between your legs, seeing your face contorted in pleasure as he brings you over the edge.

He also looooves when you pull his hair. It's a sign that he's doing well at making you feel good. This ties in with the whole praise thing.

He never pressures you into anything and always makes sure to get consent before doing something.

He also loves to wake you up by going down on you. He obviously asked for consent the night before, but he just loves the surprise of it.

Or he'll even just wake you up by pressing kisses to your neck and gently fingering you

It isn't until you're awake and moaning that he'll smirk at you and say good morning.

I don't think his initial instinct is to be very vocal, but once he feels perfectly comfortable and safe with you, oh Lord is he vocal.

He's a very gentle person in general, but every once in a while he needs to let off some steam.

You'll come back from a fight and you'll barely have the time to shut the bedroom door before he's pulling you to him and kissing you.

He can get a little rough, but he always makes sure that you're okay with what he's doing.

But he loves after care — and he's great at it too

Like I said earlier, he's a cuddler, but if you're both up for it he'll jump in a shower with you

He doesn't normally like to leave marks because he doesn't want the others to start asking questions, but every once in a while he likes giving you a hickey or two.

But he places them strategically on your collarbone, where they'll be just barely hidden by your shirts and revealed by the merest tug on the neckline (and yes he does take advantage of this)

You're a little more enthusiastic about hickeys than he is

Luckily, in his, er, line of work (???) hickeys can more often be explained away as bruises

Like if it ever gets brought up, he just brushes it off.

• Dick would be a bit surprised to find out that Raven had a half-sister, especially one that was older whom he hadn’t met before. But like always, no matter your powers or abilities, he’s going to greet you and be just as friendly as he is to everyone else; this, of course, includes all of the sass he brings with him constantly.

• Dick would be very surprised and proud if he found out you were able to handle your abilities before he met you. There are a lot of risks in practicing your abilities and trying to keep them manageable, so he’s going to be curious as to how you have so much self control over them.

• If you can’t handle your abilities then he would always do his best to support you. He knows how hard it is to keep control over such things after seeing it so many times, so he would never be judgemental over any failures you might have as long as you’re trying your best.

• Since he knew Raven before he met you, it gives him a fee more things to bring up in conversation when he wants to talk to you. Almost like it’s an excuse to get to know you more. He would also find it quite nice to have a new person around who is closer to his own age.

• Dick isn’t usually that rowdy, but his sass and energy will be a clear difference to your own personality. But he likes that, your calmness keeps him grounded and lets him take his time while opening up to you or talk things out when something bad happens.

• The more people he has to fight along side in the chance of a serious threat coming around the better. He’s happy to train with you regardless of what you want to work on, and he’s usually great company when out on patrol.

• If there were any issues due to your ancestry then Dick would have no problems in defending you. He doesn’t care how big the threat may be or how much the danger is, even if the two of you aren’t necessarily closer he’d still try to defend you since it would be the right thing to do.

• Dick’s protection over you would also apply to just normal situations, such as people being hesitant about going near you because of your abilities or excluding you because of this. Dick would try to include you as much as possible, and he’d be very defensive about you towards the people who do try to cast you out.

Based on all his wacky adventures and also a penchant for friending anything that moves, Dick is the member of the batfamily that always knows a guy, knows the exact guy they need, and that guy will totally drop everything to come help.

Dick Grayson SFW Headcanons

warnings: none I'm patiently waiting for my work to do renovations so I get a few months of paid leave. The semester just started so I'm excited to have enough free time to focus on school.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Dick is a very affectionate person and shows his affection in very obvious ways. His love language is physical touch so he loves to show affection similarly. Hugs are a must, early morning cuddles, play wrestling, playing footsies under tables, gently holding your hands, etc. Don’t even get me started on his massage abilities. 

B = Beginning (How would the relationship start?)

A relationship with Dick can start in so many different ways. He’s very outgoing socially. As Bruce’s first heir, he has to be sociable. You can meet him at galas, going out, as neighbors, as a vigilante, etc. He likes to observe new vigilantes to see where their loyalties lie, that means you’ll be bound to run into him sooner or later. 

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Yes! Dick loves cuddles. It’s the perfect way for him to be close to you, show you love, and receive some as well. He loves laying on his back and holding you however you chose to lay down near him. Sometime in the night he’ll turn towards you so he can tuck your head under his chin and rub up and down your back. 

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?) 

Settling down isn’t something Dick really knows how to do. His early childhood was always bouncing from one city to the next, then when he “settled down” with Bruce, vigilantism swooped in and his life has always been unpredictable. He’s grown used to the random nature of his life, settling down almost seems boring. He’ll always need something to spice up the domestic side. While cleaning he likes to play music so you two can dance together and have fun, making cleaning less of a chore. He never seems to have time for cooking so when he makes the time for it he really likes to go all out and make a true home cooked meal. 

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Dick would be so gentle with it. He’d wait it out to see if time could heal wounds or if the problem was only temporary, he doesn’t want to lose you too early. If he breaks up with you, he’s thought about it for a while. Since it would be a minute, he’d probably be in denial for a short period and try to overcompensate in the relationship because of it. He’d sit you down and talk through it, he’d give you as much closure as he can because it’s hard for him to break things off.  

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Commitment is a big deal for him. Flings are typical for him, but if he truly settles down with someone long-term, he has marriage in mind even if it's a brief thought. He will stay up at night picturing the rest of his life and seeing if you’re in the picture as well. He does this with every relationship, but with you it actually felt like he could see the picture in color for the first time. He’ll know from that moment on that marriage with you is possible. He’d wait until the perfect moment, taking all the time in the world until he knew you both were ready and wanted this. 

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Dick is so gentle, his whole being radiates comfort and warmth. He has a way of handling emotions that makes them less terrifying. When he holds you, it's like he's holding the entire world in his hands, he wants to cherish it. His touch can be slow and light, or firm and grounding, but it's always gentle. 

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Absolutely he does. When he gives hugs he always ends it with a squeeze, no matter how long or short the hug is, he always ends it that way. Dick will never pull away first if he can help it, he likes to wait for the other person to pull away first because he never knows how long of a hug they need emotionally. His hugs can be fun and leave you laughing or they can hold you tight until your sobs disappear into his shirt. 

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

He's pretty quick with it. Dick shows his love unabashedly, he can never regret loving someone with all his being, he can only regret not showing his love enough. Sometimes he says those words to his friends, they just kind of slip out. Love comes in many forms so he has no problem saying it to anyone he cares for. If he’s in a relationship with you, he loves you, he wouldn’t get into a relationship if he didn’t.  

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Dick trusts you and has security in the relationship enough to not get jealous. However, he can get pouty or fidgety if someone gets too close/touchy with you. He’ll try not to act on his jealousy rashly, he’d rather get validation from you than from stomping on someone else. He’ll crave cuddles or a moment alone when he gets jealous. 

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Dick never leaves without a kiss goodbye. When he leaves for groceries he’ll find you and give you a small kiss, when he leaves for the night he’ll leave you with a forehead kiss, and when he leaves for long missions he’ll spend a few moments for a proper kiss. He loves to kiss your nose and loves when you kiss his cheek. 

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Dick is amazing around little ones. He somehow always knows how to interact with children. You’ve caught him with a kid on his shoulders a few times and even mid tickle fight. Having so many younger siblings means he’s always dragged into everything, giving him the experience with combatting trouble and tears. 

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Mornings are rare with Dick. He’s a big morning person so he usually wakes up before you. He's probably up doing casework, getting ready for work, or casually lounging around. If he has nothing to do, he’ll stay in bed and hold you for as long as he can until he needs to get up or you wake up to keep him company. Sometimes he can forget not everyone is a morning person so he can get pretty loud in the mornings. 

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

He leaves for patrol some nights but he’ll always give you a kiss goodbye, some nights he’ll tuck you in and promise you’ll wake up to him laying beside you. Dick will make sure you have something to eat just as you send him off with adequate snacks, both making sure the other has enough energy to see them through the night. 

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Dick seems to be the open book of the family, he presents himself as such because he actually keeps a lot hidden and needs to hide behind this facade. He doesn’t want people worrying about him so he’ll always keep something under ropes to maintain some semblance of control. He is quick to open up on trivial things to make it seem like he reveals his vulnerable side easily. The true thoughts at the edge of his mind are difficult to reveal. 

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Dick has so much patience. This man knows how to handle his anger in a way that it barely ever comes out. It’s easy for him to talk things through and would rather do that than yell, anger does nothing but scare people. His frustrations usually dissipate with disappointed sighs or him pulling away silently until he can trust himself to speak. 

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Dick is pretty good at remembering things but just in case he forgets, he’ll make a note about something. This is especially true for gifts or passions of yours so he can look into it further. He’s very interested in your passions and hobbies, so he’ll try his best to understand it so he can ask you questions and understand the basics of what you're saying. 

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Dick loves the days where you two are alone and enjoying the time together. Some of his favorite memories are from your dates together: late night trips for ice cream, piggyback rides at theme parks, splashing water at each other while swimming, etc. But his all time favorite memory has to be when you both built a pillow fort in his apartment. He’ll always cherish the photos you took together where he can see the fairy lights in your eyes, it always sits in his wallet. 

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Dick is protective of you at first, but slowly he’s learned to trust that you can take care of yourself. You’ve proven time and time again that he can rely on you just as you rely on him, being so close with so many bats, Dick knows you’ll always be safe. On the off chance you aren’t, he has an entire family who can protect you. He takes everything one day at a time, telling himself you’ll be in his arms by the end of the day—this gives him strength to keep you by his side. 

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Dick puts in as much effort as he can into everything that involves the relationship. He plans out anniversaries months in advance, he even writes down any date idea he comes up with so he can surprise you. Surprise dates are his favorite, he loves to look at your schedule so he can tell you he’s going to pick you up for a special night, nights like these he loves to show you how serious he takes your relationship.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Dick pushes his worst feelings down so much, bottling them up until they hopefully disappear. He has oldest child syndrome which means he never feels like his emotions matter, always needed but never wanted. He was put on a pedestal early on, it only taught him that he needs to be perfect—constantly. His perfectionism is almost to a fault. 

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Dick is proud of his looks, he knows how attractive he is and will maintain it because he’s grown to enjoy the way he looks as well. He hates how the public views him as only a pretty boy, all the paparazzi, articles about the “Prettiest Man In Gotham”, it all bites at him because he doesn’t like his looks being his only attribute. He has to keep up his public persona so he’s forced to play into it which only makes things more annoying, that’s why he tries so hard elsewhere to prove he’s more than just a nice ass. 

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Not entirely. Dick is pretty independent but enjoys the security of emotionally intimate relationships. He does yearn for you when you’re missing or gone from him too long, but your absence doesn’t take away from his being. He just wants you to be safe and is always excited to see you again.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Dick learned how to french braid hair for you. He’ll learn just so he can play with yours, softly enjoying the quality time together. Once he masters the french braid, he’ll move onto dutch or fishtail. A tutorial will softly play in the background while he detangles your hair. He’ll learn everything there is to know about your hair type/texture so he can do it properly.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Dick is pretty adventurous, he loves to try new adventures and do new things. His spontaneity is written in his nature (he is a sagittarius) and taking his loved ones with him is a way he shows his affection. It’d hurt him a lot if he’s shut down or caged down too much, he enjoys his freedom and needs someone who will let him fly. 

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

Dick has a hard time sleeping if he's not holding something. He has multiple pillows so he can hold onto it as he sleeps, sometimes he’ll even latch onto the comforter. He’s infamous for this in the family, every cuddle pile someone is at the mercy of Dick’s embrace. It’s quite adorable when he’s dozing off.

I don’t have the brainpower to develop this, but I had some thoughts on Nightwing theater (I’ve been meaning to write like this for all the tribes since I had a lot of fun with Sandwing theater)

Nightwings are big on tragedy and romance together in their theater. A good Nightwing story ends with two people who can never love each other again, either through death or circumstances, but yet still do. 

Nightwing stories tend to favor female protagonists/point of view characters. 

Ensemble driven stories aren’t uncommon by any means either, where oftentimes the group will end up imploding due to being turned against each other through circumstances outside of their control

Nightwing theater also relies a lot on character tropes, sometimes with subversions, but sometimes just taken wholesale. Some popular (and suitably ~tragic~ tropes include:

the seer who could predict everything except their own tragic future. Often a girl, but not always.

The counter to her is usually another dragonet who spits in the face of destiny but finds it comes back to bite her. 

The young diplomat who is hurt by the world they enter into, often dead or changed for the worse by their experiences.

The precocious dragonet who harbors sinister inner workings, unnoticed by their parents until it’s too late. 

The cruel royal, often hiding skeletons in her closet that explain how they ended up this way.

The evil non-Nightwing here to snatch away the hero’s happy ending- sometimes literally. Often an Icewing. Usually their main role is being unnecessarily cruel and/or violent.

These are, as all tropes are, flexible (the diplomat isn’t always a diplomat, they might be a student or someone else “educated”, the seer is sometimes able to outrun her tragic end, the royal is sometimes pleasant), it’s more about the themes they carry (you can ~barely~ sense the xenophobia I’m sure).

(Unsurprisingly, a lot of this draws on Nightwing history. No one will talk about Darkstalker and Clearsight except as boogeymen, but the fingerprints of their relationship are still pretty clearly visible in Nightwing culture)

In modern times, the prophecies are usually delivered through non-Nightwing means (a magical source telling them, a curse from another dragon that becomes real, just the writing on the wall that the protagonists can’t read) vs in the past when seers were an actual fact of life and could be used instead. 

Nightwing stories aren’t all doom and gloom- part of the fun is not knowing how it will end, even though everything about it promises tragedy. While most of them end sadly, you’re always holding out hope that this time the protagonists will make it through. 

Nightwing plays also draw on a very limited color scheme, as to make sure the performers stand out best. Props and stagedressing are often minimal, though music and sound in general often fill that space to give the necessary context of scenes.

You’d best believe there’s a ton of monologues and soliloquies. 90% of theater is people dramatically announcing their internal feelings, but only to the audience. 

dark blue-black scales are seen as the most glamorous for the way they reflect light, and sets are often matched to these colors, especially if the lead role happens to look the part. Nightwing aesthetic preferences in general tend to favor rich, deep colors and cool tones- grey/lighter scales and warm tones are seen as the least attractive (unfortunate, since the time spent on the island lead to a loss of that “rich black” color Nightwings find attractive).

Love the slight AUs where Bruce as Batman has been a member of the league for ages, but he's somehow managed to keep his assortment of children under the radar.

Because it sets up the wildest misunderstandings within the league. He routinely talks about his babies, his children who are all so sweet and kind and occasionally assholes yes but only because they are young (and traumatized) hell I don't think the league would even be aware that they're adopted. So they're all thinking literal children

Barry: Bats really loves his kids.

Hal: I mean they're babies, wait till they hit the angsty teens and I'm sure we'll be hearing the opposite

Which means the day they finally meet Nightwing they don't know wtf to think. For one thing, how old would he have been when he had this kid???? Should they be worried about that???? And for the other, that is not a baby, that is not a precious little thing.

He could break someone in half. Like a twig.

He won't, but he could. And they can see that. (He's bat trained, they have seen what the bat can do they are not fools)

And they're like, okay. Okay maybe he isn't the baby (he is). He's got younger kids right? He's never said how many, they have 0 clues. They've been expecting 1 child, maybe 2 because he'd said kid in the plural exactly once when comforting an older woman while they were searching for her children in the aftermath of a rough battle.

And then a week later they run into Red Hood. In his leather, with his guns. And he drapes himself across Batmans back with all the self confidence in the world and starts whining about the "Brat" breaking into his safe house.

To steal his dog.

And yet again. He is not baby. He is bigger than Batman. He could probably break Batman in half given the bat didn't put up a fight. But Batman looks at him with probably the softest expression they've ever seen on that mans face and tells him very earnestly that the kid just wants to spend time with his older brother, next time they should try a walk. Maybe go to the zoo.

But probably not one of the babies. They're kind, and gentle, and at least one just loves reading and Bats has been trying to encourage that!!!

And then a day later he mentions his "babies" going for a walk in the park and they all instantaneously lose their minds at the confirmation.

Headcanon where after so many arguments between the batkids and Bruce over his paranoia and complete disregard for his kids privacy, the entire family had compromised with (in the healthiest way possible) downloading life360 on their phones and that's how they all keep track of each other.

Now Bruce knew that this is mostly for his benefit and is supposed to be a healthy alternative for his unhealthy paranoia and helicopter parenting, but what he wasn't expecting was for his kids to start keeping track of him.

He's putting gas in his car and Dick calls him because apparently Dick has been watching him drive around on the app? And Bruce is currently at a gas station thats right around the corner from a Taco Bell and now Dick wants him to get food for everyone since he's already there.

He's driving home from a meeting and Steph calls him because her and Duke were shopping in the area and wants to know if he can pick them up, when he asks how she knew he was on the same street, he gets a "Oh I just like to stalk everyone on the app for funsies." as an answer.

Jason calls him and he can barely get out a hello before Jason cuts him off, "Bruce why the fuck is your phone battery on 5%, charge your damn phone" which completely stuns him because why does he know that. He clears his throat before answering. "Jason, what?"

"Everyone can see each others phone batteries on '360, now charge your phone." Is all he gets before Jason hangs up on him.

Bruce realises embarrassingly late that his Batkids can’t swim.

Gotham’s beach water is pure chemicals and sewage, and the city’s public school funding doesn’t exactly prioritise teaching kids to swim. Steph, Duke and Jason had never seen a swimming pool before meeting Bruce.

Tim’s parents meant to sign him up for swim lessons after he fell into their indoor fountain when he was three and nearly drowned - it would have been so embarrassing if it happened when they had guests! - but forgot.

So Bruce is like. Oh no my baby-soldiers must learn to swim.

Damian insists that since the League trained him to withstand waterboarding, he’s fine. Bruce pulls a muscle in his cheek from clenching his jaw so hard.

Dick insists that he can swim and manages one impressive mermaid-style undulation before becoming disoriented and slamming into the wall.

Duke covers himself in floaties and clings to a pool noodle for dear life, eschewing dignity because “this isn’t how I die”.

Conversely, Tim sinks like a stone, curls up on the bottom of the pool, and waits for death.

Cass, with the lowest body fat percentage, also sinks but manages to squeeze into one of the drains. She re-emerges six hours later in an estuary in New Jersey.

Steph refuses to let go of the wall by the deep end, scuttling away like a crab when Bruce tries to poke her into the water with a skimmer net.

When Jason was little, he wanted to sound as intimidating as he could for Robin, and so copied Batman’s behaviour and voice, and would also imitate Dick because he was the first Robin and just so cool Jason couldn’t help look upto him as the standard (still is to a certain extent for present day Jason though he’ll never admit it).

So today, Jason can not only perfectly embody their body language so much so that if you couldn’t see his face you would think it’s them, he can also uncannily mimic their voices.

He uses this to their utmost advantage and it results in chaos every time. Just image scenarios like you’re in Gotham trying to rob houses in peace at night, you hear “Well well well something darks happening.” and of course you’re fucked but it’s Nightwing so you’re not that fucked and when you look to the source of the sound you find yourself staring down the feared crime lord Red Hood aiming a bazooka at you.

Dick Grayson x Reader In A Car Accident Headcanons

Dick would be distraught when he finds out that you've been in a car accident, especially as he wasn't there to prevent it from happening. Even if he wasn't at fault, he holds himself to be responsible for anything bad ever happening because he loves you so much, so he'll definitely take it personally and quite difficult once he finds out.

Dick always swore to always be near to prevent anything from hurting you, so the fact that he was unaware of you being hurt and unable to stop it makes him feel helpless while he hopes you make a full recovery. He'll bring himself down a lot because of it and devote all of his attention to you since he's scared of anything else happening to you for a while after the accident.

If Dick had been in the car with you during the accident then he would have used himself to protect you against the brunt of the impact if he was able to. He would immediately think about you, instead of himself, and would gladly take a severe injury rather than letting you get hurt.

Dick would never forgive himself if he was the one driving the car when the accident happened. It would cause a constant state of self-loathing for him, and he may even distance himself from you at first due to him being responsible for you being hurt. It would be hard to convince him otherwise, but he will eventually come around after realising he still wants to do his best for you.

From the very first day of the accident happening, Dick would be with you as much as he can and would want to know everything about your injuries and what kind of medical attention you're receiving. He'd also use his connections to make sure you're aided by the best doctors and have constant reassurance around you to help you feel better about the situation you're in.

Once you're no longer in need of doctors, Dick would still be around to look after you and help you with everyday things, he may even take time off of work and being a vigilante just to spend more time with you. He would be doing this more for himself, rather than because you need it, as you're his top priority and hates the thought of you struggling in any way after the accident.

Since you were in an accident, Dick would also become vigilant about being in cars, especially if you decide to drive or be driven around again. Whoever was driving at the time of the accident wouldn't be allowed to drive you anywhere again once he finds out who it was, and he would offer to drive you places himself or get someone he can trust to do it instead.

If you feared being in an accident after it happened, then Dick would be very patient with you and would do his best to help you in any way that he could. You'd never have to worry about his snapping at you as he fully understands why you would be scared, and no matter how long it takes he'll always do his best to make you feel comfortable again.

Dick Grayson

Dick was excitedly telling a story, the climax of it built with his voice

The loudness of his tone put you on edge especially as his hands started to enunciate his storytelling

One fast paced swipe and you flinched back from him

Dick's hands immediately froze in the air as his eyes watched your body slowly relax

He'd pause and slowly drop his hands to his sides, his brain trying to come up with something to say

"You know I'd never hurt you . . . right?"

He'd speak the words slowly, a softer tone drastically different than the one he was using before

Dick relies on physical touch a lot but he'd hesitate in this moment

It's up to you if the conversation ends there with a soft "yes" or if you want to explain

Either way, Dick will listen and the second you're ready, he'll open his arms for you to fall into

He'd put his hand on top of your head and softly kiss your forehead, he'd talk into your hair until your body relax completely into him

"You'll always be safe with me, you know that right?"

You'd nod into his chest and pretend to not feel Dick let out a sigh of relief

Dick is very patient and forgiving of any time you flinch, he knows its habitual but he'll always be there to smooth out any anxiety

Jason Tod

You two were having a heated argument

Jason tries to be as patient and as understanding as possible, but his rage instincts slip out of the cracks before he can reel them back in

So when he raises his voice at you it reminded you too much of your past and it terrified you

With a flinch, your hands itch to cover your ears with your gaze down, waiting for more yelling

Nothing but silence, so you looked up and saw Jason's reaction

Jason would be incredibly still, jaw slammed shut and arms pinned to his sides

"Why did you flinch?"

He say it with such a quiet voice, it'd be low and the edge of it would make you just a little nervous

He's pissed at the insinuation of you past, he'd be even more pissed at himself

Jason wants nothing more than to hug you and prove to you that he'd never hurt you, yet, he scared you

He'd be extremely conscious of his voice level anytime he's around you, especially during fights or when he and his siblings get rowdy

Once you two cool off for a bit and resolve the argument, he'd want to reassure you as much as he can with soft words

As much as he hates to admit it, he'd need some reassurance as well

He's terrified of hurting the people he loves in any way, he'll crave cuddles but won't admit it

You'll probably get to spend the night cuddled up and feeling completely safe with Jason

Tim Drake

Tim can be quite affectionate, he doesn't think twice about offering you physical affection very often

You both adore hugs so when he sneaks up from behind you and wraps his arms around your waist, he was expecting a soft morning gesture

Instead, your full body flinch immediately made him slowly let go, but when your terrified eyes met his, he completely backed off

You could see the confused nervousness in his eyes and you tried your best to soothe it but you couldn't quite shake the terror your body was feeling

Tim would apologize in an instant, he didn't realize how that could scare you so he silently plans to not do it again unless he makes it obvious he's coming near you

He loves communication with all his heart, so he'll continuously ask you every time he notices your small anxious flinches

"Did I do something that made you anxious?"

He asks so he can know what your triggers are so he can avoid them, he doesn't need the story behind it unless you want to tell him, he is a detective so he'll probably find out sooner or later anyway

Tim will panic internally that he did something wrong but he'll always do his best to make sure he helps in anyway you'd like him to

Whether you just need words of safety or his soft touch, or even a moment to yourself, he'll understand and be there every step of the way.

Damian Wayne

Damian has a incredible habit of sneaking up on you

He doesn't even try to, he just always walks silently and you never notice when he's in the room with you or not

So when you turn around and flinch hard, he doesn't think much of it at first

Damian just caught you with your guard down and he knows he can be scary sometimes, so he shrugs it off

Slowly it becomes a reoccurring thing, he notices every single time you flinch at him and mentally notes it down

He doesn't want to scare you too much, but you don't just flinch with him, so he's growing anxiety quickly disappears

But one bad mental health day and your flinch seems to look less like you being startled and more like you're a second away from curling in the corner and protecting yourself from him

Eventually he just corners you and demands answers

"You think I'd hurt you . . . or someone already did."

Damian has a way of accidentally interrogating you, he forgets that topics can be hypersensitive and people need time before they admit past traumas

But he makes up for it by being one of the best listeners

He'll sit patiently as you speak, giving you plenty of time to get your entire story out, as much as you want to say

While he wants to know the truth, he won't push you too hard, the second you say no, he'll pull back

He wants to know so he can protect you from any person or situation that ever triggers you

Damian can seem cold but deep down he really does care and wants to make sure you always feel safe with him
