There's something so gut wrenching about the way Cora constantly views Nikola as a threat and doesn't humanise him the way she does with Ampersand, and yet Nikola is the one that's more outwardly compassionate towards humans.

She also struggles with Ampersand lying or keeping things from her so much during Truth of the Divine, but Nikola freely gives information to those who ask him. When Ampersand is emotionally distraught, he shuts down and self isolates, but Nikola lashes out and self medicates - which is not only incredibly human in general, but it's something that Kaveh admitted to also doing in the past. Cora herself exhibits both traits; she will isolate herself from other humans and fail to look after self, but then will lash out at others when she's unable to be alone.

I can't help but wonder if part of it is due to her self-hatred for the bond she has with Ampersand, when Nikola is not only the seemingly kinder alien but he also shared a connection with Kaveh that was far more healthy than hers.

Just watched that DW episode with Nikola Tesla and honestly I wasn't disappointed. My mind is having so many thoughts right now and I'm not sure I can write them all down but I'll do my best

First of all: loved the story. The idea of aliens wanting to kidnap Tesla is so funny to me and I found it quite charming the way they depicted it. I'm no professional writer as of now so I won't go into that. I did, however, find it very sweet how the Doctor and Tesla had that short moment of bonding over being inventors/scientists... It was just sweet.

Second: performance. Absolutely loved the way Tesla was portrayed. There are some really small things in his speech that do nudge the idea he's not a native English speaker and I think it was shown amazingly. I'm a native Croatian speaker so I was able to catch a few extra things, but I do think they could've given him a bit more of an accent. Then again, that's just my personal preference. Plus, that beef with Edison seemed pretty realistic to me. Another thing I'd like to mention is someone's brief remark on the fact that Tesla loved opera! Fun fact: a worldwide famous opera diva Milka Trnina (who was also Croatian!) was said to be the only one to have access to Tesla's personal laboratory! There were also rumours of the two being something more than friends... Who knows. Also I could rant for hours about Milka and Tesla, but I'll leave that for another post.

TL ; DR

Had high expectations for the episode, wasn't disappointed.

Jonathan Sims was kidnapped for a month, tied up, and moisturized against his will. I mean, you know, fucked up, I guess, but he’s been through so many things by this point and after, that we don’t really acknowledge how actually horrifying the experience sounds. For one thing, someone touching your face against your will while you’re tied up is so fucking nightmarish holy shit miss Orsinov what the fuck. For another, he is, at all times surrounded by the most uncanny wax figures you can’t picture, can’t imagine those are nice to spend prolonged amounts of time with. But honestly? The worst of it is the most mundane. The body aches from being tied in one position for hell knows how long at a time. Sleeping? Still tied up, or did he get handcuffed to a bed or something? Did they feed him? They probably did, but what would Stranger avatars give someone for nutrition? How close to food would it be? He was gagged for a lot of it, so he couldn’t ask questions. Pain in the jaw, being covered in your own drool and sweat. I doubt they changed his clothes at any point. The isolation, doubt he saw all too much of his captors, Nikola had a dance to be preparing for, don’t you know that she’s the star? Idk where I’m going with this, I just think that I’ve made too many lighthearted jokes about something I imagine was like. Deeply psychologically scarring

Obsessed with the fact that Helen is technically six years older than Nikola. He really is the equivalent of an ambitious freshman having a crush on a classy postgraduate student. (And now I am in desperate need of modern AU for these two.)

Have so many headcanons about age gaps between members of the Five and how this difference in age influenced their dynamic in their Oxford days, especially before Source Blood. Would bet my money on the fact that Nikola was the youngest of the group.
