First of all that panel and that smile that he had when Tamoa complimented him is not a face that someone makes when they are complimented often. That is the face of someone who has heard someone compliment for one if the first times. The look on his face was like after working and working someone finally acknowledges you and your work.

Tsubaki probably worked really really hard to get where he was, and he's used to people leaving him behind, aka abandonment issues. He gives his all when playing, yes thats also why he doesnt have teamwork. He's scared that if he doesnt get every ball, doesnt do his best, doesnt show the team that he is worth it he will be kicked out. But when that becomes the reason? He doesnt understand.

He seems so afraid. I'm sorry but that is not normal (I think)

Okay okay hold on

Tsubaki (from ndbp) rarely gets compliments, so he gets really really happy when anyone gives him a compliment.

Also also there are two ways I can go with Tsubaki's parents

a) they spoil him

b) they are neglectful

And me being the angst lover I am, they are hella neglectful. They forget his birthday but he has a good relationship with his grandpa (hah imagine that). He plays baseball with him but his grandpa cant really run as fast as he could before so he just hits the ball. Thats also why he loves being a a shortstop or something.

His parents dont really come to his games. Tsubaki once came home from school and they were leaving cus one of his cousins was gonna get an award for something or another. After they left Tsubaki checked the fridge and oven to see if the had remembered his birthday. They hadn't.

His grandpa gives him compliment after compliment and he is happy.

He is smart, but not a genius. He has common sense (sometimes) and yeah
