Honestly them mistaking the Akuma for a demon makes a lot of sense because Akuma is literally Japanese for demon/devil.

(Sorry I took so long I ended up designing a whole new Akuma for this that somehow ended up becoming a Vocaloid reference of all things)

Nya has no clue what to think when the dark-gray-and-white-clothed figure burst angrily into the classroom. Especially since they were speaking with the voice of one of their new classmates (she still couldn’t quite figure out how they had all ended up joining Lloyd at the school here in Paris)—Chloe Bourgeois, by the sound of it.

Though the yells of “Akuma!” were certainly a good heads-up that something was wrong here.

And much to the master of water’s annoyance, her teammates (minus Lloyd, who looked just as confused by their actions as the rest of the class at first, then sighed resignedly) seemed to take the whole “demon” thing literally and this were now facing off with the apparent supervillain—“Rolling Girl”, she had called herself.

“I never did get around to explaining what ‘Akuma’ refers to here, did I,” Lloyd groaned. “I must have forgotten in all the confusion of reuniting...”

“Care to explain now, Lloyd?” Nya asked him, watching as Kai, with a yell of “BEGONE DEMON” Spinjitzued into Rolling Girl and sent her, well, rolling.

“Well, to make a long story short...evil butterflies.”

She blinked. “Wait, what?!”

“Yeah, sounds crazy, I know, but it’s a thing here—there’s a villain named Hawk Moth who can turn normal people into villains using evil butterflies. It...happened to me right after I first arrived here...”

““I...what?! What happened?!”

“It’s...I don’t really...like...talking about it...but it’s also happened to Kai, too. That’s actually how he and Jay found me.”

“...Okay. But I want to know EVERYTHING later...should...should we stop the others?” “Are you kidding?!” Alya cut in from where she was filming the battle on her phone. “No way—this is awesome!”

“Alya, I really think we should wait for Ladybug and Chat Noir—”

“Nino one of them just turned into a freaking tornado. A TORNADO! There is NO way I’m cutting this short!”

“Did Hawk Moth really have to take the whole ‘one more time’ part this seriously, though?” Chat Noir complained, shaking his head. “I mean—I like Vocaloid as much as the next person, but this is honestly ridiculous.”

“...Chat, what is that supposed to mean?” Ladybug gave him a confused look.

“’Rolling Girl’—that’s the title of a Hatsune Miku song. And the outfit she’s wearing seems inspired by a lot of other songs by the same artist—Wowaka. Off the top of my head I can name references to Unhappy Refrain, Unknown Mother Goose, and Two Faced Lovers—and maybe Toosenbo?”

“Oh my goodness, Chat Noir, you are such a weeb,” Alya said, turning to face the hero. “Not that it’s a bad thing, but seriously, you are a weeb.”

“Um, guys, shouldn’t we be more worried about the Akuma itself more than it’s musical inspiration?”

“Don’t worry, I think it’s being handled pretty well.”
