as for the rest of this ask, i’m answering after having watched 1x18, so i’m putting it below a cut a) for spoilers, b) bc it got VERY long, and c) i think my opinions are unpopular rn lmao

you literally didn’t ask for this, i just apparently needed to rant and ended up writing a fucking novel i’m so sorry asbvhbvdhdfbv

so i definitely did peg eda as the older one at first, mostly because of the lunch money incident, and her remarks at covention, and also bc something about lilith’s whole ‘ugh! stop making fun of me and do what i say!’ thing really gave me little sister vibes. i’m honestly not that put out but lilith being older though, and i think that especially after this ep, it kind of explains a lot.

lilith, as the oldest, was probably under a lot of pressure in general, with a lot of it probably coming from herself to sort of (in her mind) make up for her troublemaker sister. couple that with the fact that lilith herself has now admitted that eda was better than her even though she clearly never had to work as hard as lilith, and honestly it’s not a surprise there was some resentment there, especially if eda started shifting away from wanting to join the coven. eda also appears to have had at least some friends at school, but we haven’t seen any evidence of that for lilith. it’s extra tragic, bc they clearly grew up close! they went to coventions together and they used to race each other to kitchen, the ease of the way eda always calls her lily, and the moments of real love we’ve seen in earlier episodes really just makes it hurt a lot that the emperor could drive that much of a wedge between them.

speaking of the emperor, we’ve seen that indoctrination for the coven system begins early and that the emperor’s coven clearly has no qualms about targeting and recruiting literal children (ex: amity). so in lilith’s case, we have a teenager who’s upset about being overshadowed by a little sister who’s more popular and more powerful than her (and who’s apparently never had to work as hard) and who is therefore vulnerable to the emperor’s manipulation. there is no way in hell that i think it was lilith’s idea to curse eda. i think the emperor wanted it done and he had lilith do it to a) prove her loyalty to him and the coven and b) bc he had convinced her that it was what she deserved or something like that. 

honestly i feel like all of that really works because lilith is older, and i think it complicates their relationship so much more. lilith was supposed to be there for her little sister, but she wasn’t (and i think eda would probably also hate that she missed the signs, probably bc she was younger, which isn’t her fault obviously, but still). it’s clear from the way she immediately tried to take it back that lilith regrets cursing her, and i do genuinely think that she wants to heal her and protect her from the fate of the covenless witches, but she’s been brainwashed into believing the emperor even though it’s clear to anyone else that he has ulterior motives. 

so tl;dr: i think the reveal that lilith is the older sister (even though it’s literally by 2-3 years max bc she was clearly still young herself in the flashback) complicates their relationship on SO MANY LEVELS and it’s super fucked up, but i do really hope lilith gets a redemption arc bc there’s clearly so much history there on both sides and i am 100% here for the messy process of unpacking it all bc i want them to get to be sisters again!!

(i feel like i should clarify that none of this excuses any of her actions, especially when it comes to endangering and straight-up trying to kill luz. a redemption arc is not a get out of jail free card, and i hope that if she does get one, she actually has to work for it. there’s clearly just an incredible amount of history there and i think she’s a really well-written villain!!)

(also i am simply a villain-fucker first, last, and always, so take that as you will, lmao)

as for the memory issues, i think that there have definitely been enough offhanded comments about it that i definitely think it’ll come into play. i’m honestly not sure if it was intentional on someone’s part or just a side of the curse or the elixir, or if it’s completely unrelated, but i think it’d be really interesting to see that explored later on.

anyway, i am so sorry that i had to write a fucking novel to get my point across, but you asked for my opinions and i decided to wait to answer this until after the ep, so here they are! probably v unpopular but i literally do not care. i am simply vibing lmao.
