hello! i’ve recently started leverage because of the posts you reblog about it, and the first episode was great but unfortunately i couldn’t get past the second episode because of the subject matter (it was about the military and Iraq and i’m Iraqi and it talked about it in a way that made me a little upset) and i was wondering if this kind of thing is a reoccurring thing in the show or just a one off? and is there a lot of military people and remarks (even in passing) or can i watch the rest without worrying about that? idk if you have even watched the show recently enough to remember, no worries if you can’t answer!
Hi anon! Yeah that's fair - the show typically does a decent job of dealing with the subject matter it tries to tackle, but it doesn't always hit the mark. I think episode 2 is one of the episodes that falls short that way. I'd say it's the exception, not the norm.
As far as other "mentions" go, the only thing I can think of is Elliot's backstory. Elliot, the fighter of the group, has a dark past as a private assassin / hired gun. He occasionally references being contracted to do jobs all over the world, including jobs in various war zones. It's also implied that he was a black ops soldier at one point, but he doesn't talk about it very often because he considers it the worst thing he's ever done. I don't think it super comes up until S4E11 when he goes undercover as a homeless veteran and has a lot of flashbacks.
Aside from that, I can't think of any other episodes that include the US military like S1E02 did. I think there's one episode where the "victim" is a cop? (S2E14). But most of the time the villains are corrupt politicians, CEOs, or billionaires and the victims are immigrants, low income folks, and blue collar workers.
If I missed something, there may also be more info about specific content warnings or triggers on Leverage's doesthedogdie.com page. Hope this helps!
