Hey so with the barbie movie coming out mod is once again seeing comments like “I’m nonbinary and wish I could just have flat genitalia like a doll, it would take away my dysphoria”. Mod got a dysphoric culture ask about it like 2 years ago actually and now there are more so:

This is possible.

If your transition goal is to have a complete removal of all your internal and external genitalia, there is a real surgery that people get to do that. It’s called genital nullification.

It’s also called nullectomy or nullo.

It’s not a very new or super complicated surgery. Everything is taken out/taken off and you’re left with just a hole for your urethra (where you urinate out of). The urethra may be moved as part of surgery. If you research the procedure you’ll also probably hear them talk about urethral shortening, because nullification is mostly done on cis men/transfems/nonbinary patients who require a penectomy as part of the surgery.

Now don’t get this for an aesthetic or because you like how dolls look. It takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and is as serious a decision as any other bottom surgery. More info is here and here. This website has some info and pictures (graphic warning) of nullification along with phallus-preserving vaginoplasty, another nonbinary surgery.

Gender identity, England and Wales: Census 2021

The national data from the England and Wales census of about 59.5 million people has been released for the question about gender identity, counting the number of trans people in that population.

Summary:

People were asked “Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?”, and had the option of selecting either “Yes”, or selecting “No” and writing in their gender identity.

6% didn’t answer the question.

- 118,000 (0.24%) answered “No” but did not provide a write-in response

- 48,000 (0.10%) identified as a trans man

- 48,000 (0.10%) identified as a trans woman

- 30,000 (0.06%) identified as non-binary

- 18,000 (0.04%) wrote in a different gender identity

A total of 262,000 people (0.5%) answered “No”, indicating that their gender identity was different from their sex registered at birth. Within this group:

That’s as many “nonbinary” and “other” answers combined as trans men or trans women! I’m assuming a lot of the non-cis blank textbox people are nonbinary or similar, too?

It’s also worth mentioning that due to the stigma associated with one’s gender not conforming to societal norms, these statistics are probably a little on the low side.

i hope what people take away from nex benedict's brutal murder is that transphobia affects all trans people, which heavily includes nonbinary people and especially non binary people of color. while people argue over whether or not nonbinary people are trans, we are being targeted by cishets. we are actively being targeted by transphobia. we are in danger of trans panic. we are still trans, and we need our binary trans siblings to stand beside us.

rest in power nex. you deserved better. please fight like hell for them. please fight like hell for the safety of trans folk in Oklahoma. please fight like hell for all nonbinary people. we are trans. we are your siblings, too.

That's sooo crazy because I have this little spreadsheet I'm working on where I'm trying to document all media with protagonists/major characters who are FTM or transmasculine.

The spreadsheet currently has 200+ entries spread across the following categories:

Books and movies are also sorted by:

Which character is trans (MC, love interest, antagonist, etc)

If the trans character is POC

The trans character's sexuality (Because I saw lots of transhet guys sad about only being able to find gay romances)

If the author/actor is also trans (if we know for sure)

It's free to use, and free to add to as well! Editing permissions are on, and I check on the spreadsheet every now and then to make sure everything is in order and to clean up.

If you know something that isn't on the list, please add it! You don't have to fill in every single column, but fill it to the best of your abilities.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's perfectly acceptable that trans people don't always have certain surgeries and procedures, but I think something is to be said about the amount of trans people I have seen bash a certain gender-affirming procedure.

It's totally fine to not want some or any surgeries, but it's still transphobic to say "I think the results are ugly/look mutilated" or that trans surgery is "rudimentary" or "experimental" - even if you're also trans.

The idea that certain gender-affirming surgeries are mutilation or experimental is a classic form of transphobia, so it really does hurt seeing other trans people propelling those same talking points.

^^resource for any trans people in LA looking to get their name/gender marker changed. i highly recommend taking advantage of free legal clinics like the one above. paralegals helped me fill out the forms, sent me detailed instructions on how to file my paperwork, and they helped me apply for a california court legal fee waiver so that i didnt have to pay a cent when filing my petition of name/gender change OR for certified copies of the completed court order after it went thru.

Jewish Resources (Assorted)

Since my last post seemed to be helpful to a lot of people, I thought I’d make another to share some additional resources. This list includes a bunch of stuff, meant for Jewish people in general. I would definitely encourage you to explore them! There’s a lot of useful stuff here. Goyim are welcome to reblog, just please be respectful if you’re adding tags or comments. Jewish Multiracial Network, an organization for multiracial Jewish families and Jews of Color Sefaria, a free virtual library of Jewish texts Sephardic Studies Digital Library Museum “The SSDC includes key books, archival documents, and audio recordings that illuminate the history, culture, literature, politics, customs, music, and cuisine of Sephardic Jews all expressed in their own language, Ladino.” (from their website) The SMQN, an organization for LGBTQ+ Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews Keshet, a group for LGBTQ+ Jews JQY, a group for LGBTQ+ Jews with a focus on those in Orthodox communities  Queer Jews of Color Resource List (note: this list is way more than just resources, there’s a LOT there) JQ International: “JQ celebrates the lives of LGBTQ+ Jews and their allies by transforming Jewish communities and ensuring inclusion through community building, educational programs, and support and wellness services, promoting the healthy integration of LGBTQ+ and Jewish identities.” (from their website) Jews of Color Initiative, an organization dedicated to teaching about intersectionality in the Jewish community, focuses on research, philanthropy, field building, and community education Nonbinary Hebrew Project: It’s hard to describe, but they’re working to find/create/add suffixes that represent nonbinary genders in Hebrew. If you speak Hebrew/another gendered language, you might know what I mean about gendered suffixes. Jewish Mysticism Reading List  (These are related to our closed practices, goyim should NOT be practicing these things) Ritualwell (you can find prayers and blessings related to specific things here, I personally like that they have blessings related to gender identity)  Guimel, an LGBTQ+ support group for the Jewish Community in Mexico. The site is in Spanish. I’m not a native speaker, but I was still able to read a little bit of it.  SVARA: “SVARA’s mission is to empower queer and trans people to expand Torah and tradition through the spiritual practice of Talmud study.” (From their website) TransTorah is definitely an older website, but there are still some miscellaneous pdfs and resources up on the “Resources” page. Jewish Disabilities Advocates: “The JFS Jewish Disabilities Advocates program was created to raise awareness and further inclusion of people with disabilities within Jewish organizations and the larger Jewish community.” (from their website) Jewish Food Society (recipes, have not spent a lot of time browsing here but maybe I should in the future) Jewish Blind & Disabled, an organization that operates mainly in providing accessible housing and living. RE: Missouri Trans Ban

As one of our immediate neighbors, we are appalled by the Missouri Attorney General's decision to ban ALL transitioning, including hormone replacement therapy, for transgender Missourians - including adults.

Even though HRT has been documented for decades to be life-saving and the best treatment for gender dysphoria, transgender adults in Missouri will be cut off from transition services beginning April 27th. All current transgender Missouri residents will have to undergo intense screening to continue their care - and will only be allowed to keep their medication routine if they show ZERO signs of mental illness, including depression, anxiety, autism, and "social media addiction." Missouri AG Andrew Bailey is now also enforcing a three-year waiting period, 18-month psychological assessment, and 15 YEAR medical supervision for anyone able to get past the screening process.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

1. SHARE THE NEWS AND TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. Many news outlets that aren't explicitly focused on LGBTQIA+ issues have failed to cover how dangerous this decision is, and we know when anti-transgender organizations see something like this get approved in one state, they'll try to replicate it in others and nationally.

2. SUPPORT PROMO, MO ACLU, AND LAMBDA LEGAL. These are the leading advocacy and legal LGBTQIA+ rights organizations that are already working on legal action.

3. SUPPORT C.A.R.E.

Also known as Carbondale Assembly for Radical Equity, a Southern Illinois-based collaborative on how to best support and assist incoming transgender refugees fleeing their home states for Illinois.

TRANS AND LIVE IN MISSOURI: RESOURCES

The Attorney General's decision goes into effect April 27th - so you have until then to pick up any prescriptions you have access to. If you are on feminizing HRT, you MAY be able to use this small time window to stockpile your prescriptions until either Bailey's decision is reversed or you are able to find alternate means of getting your medication.

Even AFTER April 27th, you CAN still get your HRT if you are able to cross state lines - Planned Parenthood and other clinics that offer informed consent are creating pop-up sites as an emergency response. Some of these clinics even offer telehealth or virtual appointments - although telehealth soon won't be an option for transmasculine HRT due to the DEA's decision to end telehealth prescriptions. Any time I see anything about Nex Benedict I'm reblogging and you should too. I'm not normally so intense, but their story scares me. From what I've read, this isn't the first assault of a gender queer native american, and not the first of a minor either.

People keep saying to not let them go silent, but time and time again I've seen similar stories die out. We can't let that happen, especially not before the next election.

Quite honestly, seeing and hearing about it makes me cry, every time. But I can't stop because it scares me and you shouldn't either. Justice for Nex. Rest in Power.

I've noticed several queer folks describe their 'concerns' over certain demographics 'infiltrating' the queer community and taking up queer resources.

Most of the individuals I see making this claim are usually unable/unwilling to share 'resources' with their fellow queers, such as queer literature, history of the queer community (esp. non-US centric information), info on accessing HRT and other gender affirming care, or where to find homeless shelters for LGBTQIA+ youth (40% of homeless youth are LGBTQIA+), etc.

Usually, these biases are directed toward groups such as:

Asexuals (esp. cisheteromantic aces)

Aromantics (esp. cisheterosexual aros)

Bisexuals in 'straight-passing relationships'

Trans-hets

Literally, anyone who isn't a cis, white gay man or lesbian.

Note: This isn't an exhaustive list, they are just my observations.

My question for my fellow queers is:

What constitutes a queer resource, and how do the aforementioned groups STEAL resources from the rest of the lgbtqia+ community?
