WOOOUUGHGHHHHH HI ITS ME. THE ANON WHO SENT YOU SO MANY WORDS ABOUT BABY YAK AND THE AAAARRRRTTTTT!!!!!!! THE ART!!!!!!! oh my god the big baby cheeks the silly gulp GRANDPAS FACE!!!!!!! WAAAIIILLLSSS!!!!!! god i am bouncing off the walls, i have been poking at a longfic of the Baby Yakumo Acquisition that essentially would be the album full of from mostly snake to less snake more human but i am very easily distracted LOL. i almost sent you some in the initial enthusiasm burst but it was 1) pretty decently body horror heavy and I am not about to just send someone i don't know potentially squicky and/or triggering asks and 2) absolutely got tired and distracted and then forgot completely to do anything lmao. BUT BUT BUT!!!!! WAUGHH!!!!!! absolutely absolutely floored you did art, zooming with inspiration that i will try and unleash upon The Word Document ;w; also i know it's a little bit of many hoops to jump through w me being anon all the time, i'm mega shy and really appreciate the interaction and the sillies and THE WHOLE BEAUTIFUL ART......... going to get it printed as wallpaper and spend the rest of my life staring at the egg wall
truly, a very Considerate Etiquette nod to you for being mindful of what an internet stranger may be squicked by but 1) LUCKILY, I'M INTO THAT SHIT i meannN. i do not know what counts as body HORROR? like, waht would it take to horrify me? the body is already quite freaky in its mundane operations. what's a lil contortion and species mixing and differing structural anatomy between yokai :^).............
2) we tired out here. absolutely understandable. i will always support creators creatin' at their own wild whims
gotta say !!the way you wrote all those yaku snippets felt like . what my brain wants to see. BUT, written more concisely?? as in... if i tried to write out what u did, i feel like my words end up full of fillers and ermahuummmmms so idk i liked the way u formed ur words even tho they were in Casualish Ask mode. can't imagine how powerful they'd be in Edited Fic form 🤔

Hi! Before I say anything I just wanna say that people definitely find it easier to like or “stan” lady Gisela bc she’s more attractive than mr. forkle and I don’t want to dispute anything you said in your post. But I did want to add that I think part of the reason the dislike for mr forkle is so much stronger is because while gisela is evil, she’s the villain, and you were never really supposed to like her in the first place, but mr forkle was supposed to be a trusted adult who acts a wider mentor figure and so his mistakes and betrayals to Sophie sting more. Nobody’s expecting Gisela to suddenly turn into a kind hearted woman, but you subconsciously want mr forkle to honestly care about Sophie as a person and when Sophie feels betrayed by him, it stings us more
Hi! And yes while I do get that, I think an important part of fandom is separating how the narrator feels versus the actual content.
And yeah I can see why it would hurt more, but

What do you think Jolie’s flaws were?
Most of what we know of her comes from those who loved her fiercely, but I'll try.
First: getting in over her head/trying to grow up too fast. Jolie was almost done with school and engaged, but in reality she was barely an adult--19-ish. That's incredibly young to be tackling the role she played as a double agent, especially when we're talking about a species with an indefinite life. She proposed it herself, too, even against warnings. That sort of determination can be a positive, but it can also easily turn to overconfidence that comes back to bite you when you've bitten off more than you can chew--relevant, I think, considering she was a new recruit when she made this decision. We could also see this sort of maturity speedrun in how young she was getting married, how she'd started calling Edaline "mother" instead of "mom." So much of what we learn and the choices she made make her seem older than she was, which could be in part because we learn through Sophie's eyes, but I think it's in part just how Jolie pushed to be
For the second, I'd like to clarify that a lot of flaws are a positive quality detrimental at an extreme--and what a "flaw" is is subjective. Much of Jolie's story was very emotional and wrapped up in personally significant things, which isn't a bad thing, but it did lead her to decisions we'd advise against with hindsight. The major one: confronting Brant. She loved him so much it killed her. There was never any scenario in which she'd take steps to protect herself against him because she wholeheartedly trusted and believed in him, so she was always going to be vulnerable to him. And again. This doesn't mean it's a mark against her character--loving intensely and believing in others despite it all can be a wonderful quality--I'm simply counting it here because it is also the quality that killed her.
Again, we don't learn much of her and what we do know is from biased sources, but I'd posit: biting off more than she should/trying to grow up too fast, and unable to separate personal emotions from certain decisions as potential flaws :)

How did Sophie know Elysian was a woman like… usually the narration is limited to Sophie’s knowledge and supposedly Elysian face isn’t visible. does Elysian just have like really big tiddies and Sophie was like “oh yes must be a gorl”
Elysian's tits entered before she did. she's got some serious honkers. a real set of badonkers. packin some dobonhonkeros. massive dohoonkabhankaloos. big old tonhongerekoogers.
Serious answer: I'm assuming this was done on Shannon's part, imparting that snippet of knowledge because it wasn't something she needed or wanted left to interpretation. Shannon knows Elysian's female, so she's telling us even if the characters wouldn't know for certain. It's possible the voice gave it away, as in keeper there's a pretty clear female/male society and it's rather limited, so in their system a certain tenor of voice=female.
I would say it's because Shannon needed a pronoun to use, but she has used they/them singular pronouns in one scene in the past, so if that was the case she could've used them again.
My assumption is this is another instance of limited gender expression and variation in the series that categorized Elysian into it quickly despite knowing very little about her. But big bonkhonagahoogs, humongous hungolomghnonoloughongous Elysian is a funnier explanation :)

Do you think Mermaids exist in KOTLC?
They do exist and are mentioned in canon! When Sophie is searching through Edaline's trunks in Everblaze looking for Jolie's stuff, she comes across some of her journals and says:
"A quick flip through the pages told Sophie there were probably some interesting stories in there--the words 'monitoring the mermaid migration' particularly caught her attention" (p. 264).
So they exist, but appear to be more animalistic than humanoid. Like she does with selkies and banshees and dragons, adapting them into her own creatures. Hope that helps!

I think Shannon gets too much flack sometimes with doubting what she plans. The execution sucks sometimes but I do thinks she plan. In Neverseen there’s a comment about Gisela and the Celestial Festival and a few comments about Orem in earlier books.
I think Shannon sometimes gets too much flack in general; I'm not saying she's perfect or above critique, but some posts I've seen over the years seem overly meanspirited for no reason.
A common example I've seen of this is, indeed, about planning and her plot. It irks me when people say things like "we can tell" when she says she doesn't (or didn't, she's switched things up a little) overly plan. There's an infinite number of ways to write a book, her method isn't wrong just because we/you don't like the end result.
Another that especially gets me is when people go out of their way to find "plot holes" and half their list are easily surmised if you put maybe 5 seconds of thought into it. Like "why can't sophie spy on her enemies with her spyball?" Because the spyballs aren't omniscient (she can't see Forkle, she couldn't see her human family after their registry files were deleted, etc.) and if they were the book would be a lot more boring. What happened to the Exillium training? It was a way for Shannon to introduce outward channeling and served its purpose; could it have been phased away smoother? Yeah. Doesn't mean Shannon did awful and this is something to weasel at
There's only so much you can fit in a book; part of our job as readers is to fill in the reasonable gaps. That's not being overly lenient, it's literally part of fiction/fantasy reading as a whole. Poking at the little gaps can be fun, but tearing them all into the light as genuine critique when all stories have gaps is just being needlessly mean.
Is Shannon a perfect writer? No. No one is. There are genuine critiques to be made about her books, but critiquing and being mean are two different things. And sometimes people take it too far--and no one is immune to it, including myself. Just something to be aware of

What's your take on a Fitz-Marella friendship?
I figured it was only a matter of time before this made its way to me :)
I'm intrigued by the unaware subject/silent observer dynamic we can give them. Fitz is, after all, practically a prince of their world, constantly at the center of conversation and talk and speculation. And Marella is the "Gossip Master" (Stellarlune 511).
I'm certain Fitz, to Marella, was a rife subject--and one many others would be willing to gossip about too. Which could've turned him into this unreal figure in her mind, given how much she'd've talked and how very little of that would've involved him in any way.
Of course there's Fitz's pov, which is only marginally aware of her, if at all. He did live practically in his own world, both because of his family name and his odd absences. If he knows of her, it's as another gossip who doesn't know him but talks anyway--a nuisance or drain, even.
Though if we consider Fitz's saying he was odd and excluded for his weird absences like he said, then perhaps that could draw the two together--the kid who disappeared and the kid with the infamous family tragedy.
Then again, we could take that family tragedy (Caprise) and juxtapose it against Fitz's seemingly perfect, proud family and go for more of an opposites attract kind of thing.
Looking more at an already formed lava cake style friendship in current times is difficult because they clash in many ways, but one could argue they might find each other via, of all things, relationship drama. Marella would love to know about it, and Fitz would likely like to talk it through--and he's running out of people to do so with. Feels a little like Marella making him her project for fun, if you know what I mean? And from there further depth and connection can develop--that's if we're going a more canon route, that is
point is there's a lot of ways to take them (we just might have to work a little harder to justify/create believable scenarios dynamics given their distance in canon)

Do you know the timeline in the KOTLC books? It's very confusing.
OKAY! Semester over, timeline time! I've mapped out all the books in a comprehensive timeline. Disclaimer: there is room for error in this timeline, as it's based on my understanding of Shannon's writing and I am not foolproof; be aware of that.
Summary: The keeper series takes place over the course of 2 1/2 years. The longest book is book one, which takes 9 months, and the shortest (excluding Unlocked) is book 8, which takes 3 weeks.
I've included the time in each book (highlighted in blue), when notable events happen (I've likely missed a few), and the time between each book. My notes are more in depth, so if you have specific questions feel free to ask--though I cannot promise I'll be able to answer them.
Edit: This now includes Sophie human (marked "hy" for human years) and elven (marked "ey") ages throughout the series.
I will be posting a version without Stellarlune, but THIS ONE INCLUDES SPOILERS. Enjoy!
Book 1: 9 months long. Week 1, Sophie (age 12hy, 13ey), leaves her family and starts Foxfire. 2 months in, she gets Iggy and wins the Splotching Tournament. 4 months in are midterms. 5 1/2 months in she has her first tribunal. (She turns 13hy, is still 13ey) 7 1/2 months in is her allergy incident and her adoption cancellation. 8 months in she's kidnapped for ten days. 8 months and 3 weeks in is her second tribunal and her adoption by Grady and Edaline.
There is an estimated 3 month interim. (Sophie turns 14ey, is still 13hy).
Book 2: 5 weeks. Week 1, Silveny is found, the Ruewens visit Brant, and the kids practice for the opening ceremonies. Week 2, Sophie and Alden visit Exile, Foxfire has its ceremonies, and Alden's mind breaks. Beginning of week 3, Foxfire starts; end of week 3 is Alden's planting. Beginning of week 4, Sophie and Keefe go to the Black Swan hideout to fix her, learn she can teleport, and she heals Alden the next day. Week 5, the Celestial Festival where Silveny enters the Sanctuary.
There is a 2 week interim.
Book 3: almost 4 weeks. Week 1, Fintan is healed and Kenric dies with the funeral a few days later. Week 3, Sophie is given her restricting circlet. Mid week 4 is the final confrontation with Brant and Mount Everest.
There is an estimated 1 day interim.
Book 4: almost 6 weeks. Day 1, the kotlcrew join the Black Swan. Week 2, Sophie and Keefe attempt to trick information out of Gethen. Week 3, they attempt to break into Exile, fail, and instead exchange Gethen for Prentice. Sophie learns about elven birthdays and is stated to be 14yrs and 5 months in elven, making her 13yrs and 8 months in human. Week 4, they begin attending Exillium and meet Tam and Linh. Week 5, Silveny is revealed to be pregnant. Week 6, they storm Ravagog and Keefe runs away.
There is a 3 week interim.
Book 5: 4 weeks. Day 1, Keefe explodes Foxfire. Day 2, a small group revisits where Dex and Sophie were taken and tortured. The end of week 1, the famous sleepover and Wylie's kidnapping/torture. Week 3, Sophie, Forkle, and Oralie visit Gethen. Week 4, Sophie manifests as an enhancer; the next day Tam, Fitz, and Sophie confront the Neverseen (and Keefe), and the treaty negotiations are the day after that, killing Forkle. At the end of week 4, Sophie visits her human family to find them missing.
There is no interim.
Book 6: 4 1/2 months. Day 1, Sophie's sister moves to the Lost Cities. Week 1, Forkle twin reveal, Marella's pyrokinesis reveal, visiting King Dimitar (Keefe spars), introducing Ro, and the storming of the first Nightfall (recovering Alvar). Week 2, Foxfire starts. Week 4, Prentice is healed. Week 5, Vespera's name is revealed. Sophie then spends 3 months as a "zombie-girl." (During this, she turns 14hy, is still 14ey). 4 months and 1 week in, the second Nightfall is found and raided, the Atlantis forcefield broken, and her parents recovered. 4 1/2 months in, Amy leaves, and it's found alvar has no memories.
(Sophie turns 15ey, is still 14hy). There is a "weeks" long interim, which I've reasoned to be about 3 1/2 months long. This is based in logic but is, however, unverified.
Book 7: about 8 1/2 weeks. Day 1, Alvar's trial, Sophie and Fitz are attacked and put in the Healing Center. Week 2, Sophie begins her skill training with Keefe. At the beginning of week 3, Fitz is woken, and at the end of the week they leave the Healing Center. Week 5, Silveny gives birth to the alicorn twins. Week 6, Sophie and Fitz meet with Fintan, where he reveals something to do with the Celestial Festival. Week 7, the Celestial Festival fight happens (troll hive), and Tam is kidnapped. About a week and a half later, Sophie learns she's unmatchable.
There is a 9 day interim.
Book 8: 3 weeks. The beginning of week 1, Team Valiant is formed and Amy/Sophie recover erased memories. The end of week 1, Sophie has her abilities reset after a meeting with King Enki. Mid week 2 is when Fitz gives Sophie the infamous painting. The beginning of week 3, Sophie learns Oralie is her mother, finds Alvar at Candleshade, and breaks up with Fitz. Mid week 3 is the battle of Loamnore (Keefe unconscious, King Enki betrayal, Tam reunited, Glimmer, etc.). At the end of week 3 Oralie approaches Sophie to open her cache.
There is no interim.
Book 8.5: 3 days. Day 1, Oralie's cache is opened, Keefe wakes, and Sophie is told to stay away. Day 2, Fitz tells Sophie to reach out to Keefe telepathically. Day 3, the Dizznee's and Elwin try to help Keefe, Sophie and a few others (with Glimmer) go to the storehouse, she burns it down, and Keefe leaves again.
There is a 1 hour interim.
Book 9: about 6 weeks. Week 1, Cassius's memory of Gisela's second ability is found; Oralie, Sophie, and Dex go through Kenric's cache. Sophie wants to find Elysian. Week 2, Foxfire starts again (it was on hiatus), Sophie and Fitz begin their cognate inquisition. Week 5, the group meets with Trix, and immediately after find Keefe, bringing him back. Mid week 6, the sokeefe confession occurs, the inquisition concludes, and 1 day after that is the final confrontation and Elysian's reveal.
(Sophie is currently 15 years and 8 months in ey, 14 years and 11 months in hy).
That brings us to present day! That was a lot, so I'll keep this brief. This is pretty solid, but still room for error and if someone catches something, please feel free to let me know. I hope this helps!

What do you think is the most common ability in kotlc?
I have a few guesses, so I'm gonna talk them through at you to see if one prevails over the other:
Flashers: incredibly light based species, perhaps its because a significant number of them work with it. We've also met a sizable number of them, and not because of anything special with Sophie (meaning, we see more telepaths than average because she is a telepath, but there's nothing special to draw flashers to her. and yet we still see a good few)
Vanishers: again, light based species. Different manifestation, but same principle. It could've also provided a survival advantage in days before "peace", leading to a larger number of them. But that could be said for many abilities. It's nothing flashy or significant as well, which could make it more common
Conjuring: again, not flashy. It's a more limited ability, which could mean its more widespread. Highly specialized things with lots of power are rare, and this is the opposite of that. We do have a fair scattered number of them as well
The one I want to be most common is flasher because I think it melds well with the worldbuilding. But otherwise I think any of these is a fine guess--and some of my reasoning could extend to other abilities as well.
If anyone else has thoughts or propositions, feel free to add; I may be overlooking something :)
