[Elsa] hears a voice she can’t quite figure out. It’s an abstract pull, the sense of a new chapter in one’s life when you feel a change is coming, but you don’t know what it is yet. […] she wants to be content, but there’s a gnawing feeling that she’s not quite fulfilled.

Twist
Naturally, as humans, we add twists to most of our movements so adding them in animation or character design will stop it from looking so flat and can also add exaggeration.

Génération liquide
GE, TU, ELLES.

Architects: Lemay and Atelier 21
Location: Mont-Royal, Québec, Canada
The Grand Théâtre de Québec restoration project has just been awarded four prestigious awards of excellence. Two have been presented by the Ordre des architects du Québec – the jury’s highest honors and the public’s choice. SAB Magazine has also recognized the project with the Green Building Award as well as the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, for its innovative prowess.
Prized for its brutalist architecture, the Grand Théâtre de Québec is a cultural icon. Lemay and Atelier 21 were tasked with restoring and protecting the building’s crumbling outer shell and its emblematic Bonet mural, inside.
The new envelope is a delicate response to a complex problem. In developing corrective measures for the building’s many weaknesses, the transdisciplinary team produced a sustainable, innovative solution: adding a transparent, glass curtain wall to the concrete structure.
The glass casing was carefully designed in continuity with the structure developed by Victor Prus, the original architect, and the mural work of Jordi Bonet, enshrined by Prus’ protective outer shell.
Discrete and almost immaterial at times, it reflects its surroundings and becomes the main interface with the city, adding an additional theatrical act in the discovery of this significant Quebecois work.
As designed, the thin wall of protective glass shields the Grand Théâtre from the elements by creating a secondary, tempered envelope housing a low-flow heat recovery and thermal mass system. The system is both energy-efficient and economical. Beyond its primary function, the new layer acts as an extension of the original building it protects, using the same finely tuned structural logic and composition.
Any alteration to the architecture had to be severely limited, says Eric Pelletier, architect and design principal at Lemay. The building’s fragility paired with the inability to directly access the concrete anchors posed a major challenge – with work on the building proceeding during normal daytime and evening theatre operations.
“Similar to a play having been written 50 years ago, we had to revitalize le Grand Theatre using a new script that would resonate with a new generation, all while respecting and embracing Prus’ original work.”
Eric Pelletier, architect, design principal at Lemay

Hello! I really love your art style! I'm an artist trying to figure out a more graphic style and I was wondering if you had any influences or tutorial recommendations for a beginner? Thanks! (And really your sketches are just amazing)
Oh wow, thank you somuch! I really appreciate that a whole bunch
My process hasalways been to find whatever and whomever I think makes rad art andbasically copy some stuff that they’ve done (for personal practicenothing else, not to be posted or used anywhere). These studies arebasically the same thing as studying the masters, but it can be foranyone you think has something you inherently like. Once I’ve donethat I’ll set the art aside and do some doodles to see what part ofit sticks.
Do this with severaldifferent artists and works and you’ll start developing a personalstyle, which is essentially just a combination of all the things youlike and are inspired by, with your own spin on them. So it isn’tso much emulating one artist, as learning from what others have doneand gaining an understanding of it.
Big inspirations forme have for example been Disney (especially Atlantis), Full MetalAlchemist, Leyendecker, Matt Rhodes, Over the Garden Wall, Avatar theLast Airbender, Loish, Dishonored’s art, Joe the Barbarian (Vertigocomics), Pretty Deadly (image comics) and many more i can’t thinkof right now but definitely will later haha.
I have also alwaysbeen very lucky to have cool artists around me and for a good whilein my late teens I was super inspired by my friend @omegafanart, tothe point where my art started looking a lot like theirs (haha sorryOmega
Aside from that, ifyou want to draw more stylized things, I believe you definitely needa solid understanding on realism. I live by ”know the rules beforeyou break them”. I’m still working on that, but life drawing hastaught me a lot.
Book wise I canrecommend ”figure drawing for all it’s worth” by Andrew Loomis,”Color and Light” by James Gurney and ”Human Anatomy forArtists” by Elliot Goldfinger.
As for tutorials, Ilove the ones by http://trisketched.tumblr.com/.They have made a lot of very good tutorials for inspiring, instructing and motivating you to draw in new ways. In the same veinNormand Lemay also has a bunch of super cool tutorials about form, movement and more.
But all in all whatit all comes down to is just draw a lot, make mistakes, try again, ask for feedback, be inspired, push yourself, ask for feedback again!Art is rad and creating is awesome!
tl;dr: Draw a lot, look at what others do, study them, be inspired and do your thing.Learn the rules before you break them. Don’t be afraid to makemistakes. Ask for feedback! Have fun!
