note: thank you for the request, i had so much fun writing it! as soon as i saw it i immediately started tearing up at how cute this is 😭 sindri deserves the world and more, especially the appreciation of his peers! i included the main bunch (plus freyr), but if you want me to add tyr, lmk and i’ll update this with him! also, mimir is there i promise! i just may or may not have forgotten to have him say anything 🥲

sindri could tell something was off when atreus rushed out the front door to greet him instead of letting him in. “hey, sindri! find anything new?” the boy asked, his hands folded neatly in front of him while he rocked on his heels. sindri narrowed his eyes, “.. what did you do?” pushing past the younger, yet taller boy to enter his home.

atreus pushed himself once again in front of the dwarf and the half opened door. “i didn’t do anything! i’m just wondering what interesting things you’ve gotten up too.” an innocent smile spreading across his face as he turned his head to look behind him.  

 “get out of my way, atreus. i swear if you-” sindri’s words were cut short. the door now wide enough to reveal the inside of the home. for the most part, it appeared the same as when sindri left it. the only difference being already prepared dinner on the table and an abnormally clean brok approaching him.

“happy fuckin’ birthday, little brother!” the blue man spoke with a gruff laugh, leaving a rough smack against sindri’s back. “it’s his birthday? i didn’t know it was his birthday.. why didn’t you tell me that?” freyr spoke, raising his head from the table and leaning on his elbows, shooting a defeated look towards atreus.

“it’s not his birthday!” atreus sighed and dropped his shoulders, halfheartedly glaring at brok. “it’s not? well, fuck you then!” brok removed his hand and waved dismissively, making his way to the table to begrudgingly set plates around the table, grumbling under his breath.

“what- what is this?” sindri rolled his shoulders in discomfort from brok’s harsh grab, but looked to atreus for an answer. freya spoke next, “we wanted to surprise you and let you know we appreciate you.” she stepped over to sindri with a smile on her face. “some of us, have trouble with words,” sindri nodded and shot a nervous smile at kratos who grunted in response, “so we had the idea to throw you a bit of a surprise party to show our gratitude.”

sindri was at a loss for words. he loved helping the people he cared about and so desperately wanted more thanks in return, yet he never dared to ask for it outside a joking tone. warmth spread across his face and his hands began to shake with concealed happiness. 

“thank you..” sindri’s voice was soft and he smiled at freya and atreus, taking in the sight of his closest friends around him, “thank you so much.” he couldn’t believe they did this for him. atreus grinned at sindri, “no problem, sin. it’s the least we could do.” 

when atreus came forward to place his hand carefully on sindri’s shoulder, he let him.

I feel so bad for Yondu to think about how guilty he must have felt after learning what Ego did to the children that he helped deliver 😥 Also will I ever stop being obsessed with his little talk with Rocket?? "I know who you are boy because you're ME" 😭😭😭

The way I will holler about Yondu until my dying breath, like!! I loved him in vol1 but vol2, it was all downhill from there. Got me #obsessed.

Like...you've got this man, twenty years a battle slave, he's clearly fresh into the whole free will thing, throwing his lot in with the Ravagers - even for a bunch of rough'n tumble mercs, they've got a code, a guideline, some sense of morality that comes before units. Not dealing with kids is pretty bare minimum, but clearly, some lines aren't meant to be crossed.

But also - you're newly freed, you've got all this trauma surrounding your own thoughts on families, and you've got a man who's had millennia to learn how to manipulate 'lesser' lifeforms, swearing up and down that he's not out to hurt his own kids, he just wants 'em home. Like...at that point, it's not dealing in kids. It's doing the right thing, bringing them home to their daddy, where they'll be wanted and cared for, shit you never had growing up. The units? That's just a bonus. Fuel costs, cuts for the ship and crew, and yeah, padding your own accounts, Yondu might be doing a good deed, but he's not running a charity here.

Finding out? Learning what happened to them? Sucker punch to the gut. All that sentiment going into taking these jobs, letting that cloud his decisions and leading him off the code - is it any wonder that Yondu pulled such a hard turn on letting anything soft guide him along?

(And I will always wonder how he found out, and beyond that, how Stakar found out. Don't get me started on that relationship because omg.)

His talk with Rocket though, man. Like Yondu!! You ain't as slick as you think, that takes a degree of emotional intelligence that you can't take back. He read Rocket like a fuckin' book - and he does the same damn thing with Peter in vol1.

I love that stupid blue asshole, he's such a wonderful, flawed character.

on the limit - @drivestraight - 6.8 - this entire series is gorgeous, but I want to recommend this part in particular because even as a standalone I think it's really really brilliant! It's packed with so much subtext and such a punchy start to a series that ended up changing the way i think about this pairing, i love it

Where The Heart Is - @gemjam - 57K - this isn't lestappen and is a little older but it belongs on every rec list i ever do because it was one of the first f1 fics I ever read when i was introduced to the sport almost 10 years ago! i was a certified ferrari fan and red bull hater from the beginning, but the vibe of red bull as a little family compels me to this day and is simply so so essential and still so real. we have been shipping ferrari drivers with red bull drivers for ten long slutty years and we will continue to do so. It's also so good as a coming of age story!!!! it's honest and awkward and life isn't always perfect and people don't always behave their best whether theyre kids or teenagers or parents! Nobody has it all figured out, but they choose to keep trying every day and they love each other the best they can and i could honestly write an essay about how much that meant to me when I was 16 but also how dear to me that idea is at 25. also this fic introduced me to spanish tortilla which was a massive win, and it made me want a farm as a teenager and now im an architecture student and i understand workaholic adrian on a spiritual level. like this fic is so rich ive been screaming about it for a whole decade if you want to try something different give it a shot

ok, so in more than blood, there's luke, leia, cal, boba pops in and out, a certain someone will temporarily bunk with the crew for long enough to get returned to their family, i've written a bit for ANOTHER character who joins up but doesn't swear the resol'nare, and i just now had a BIGBRAIN idea that will make the crew feel more balanced and add some compelling conflict. that said, i genuinely do NOT know how i'm gonna fit five permanent residents plus obi-wan and cody for a total of seven, AND two temporary residents (boba and the other character). also, the bigbrain idea i had would require me to engage with a mid piece of media that i have zero interest in besides this one character in order to get a grasp of their motivations, even if i'll greatly alter the direction their life takes as an adult.

truly idk how many fuckin traumatized children i can fit on this goddamned ship and it's beginning to feel crowded and like i'll be juggling far too many characters to do them all justice. luke, leia, and cal are non-negotiable crew members, and i'm leaning towards the character i just had a breakthrough about becoming a permanent fixture. boba is like an honorary member i think at this point, bc he's quite independent, and the temporary member will only appear briefly, but the one who doesn't swear the resol'nare i'm beginning to think i should leave to their canon storyline to avoid character overload, and perhaps switch the concept of them not swearing the tenants to the new character that i'm really considering bc i think the decision to not convert could thematically fit either of them.

i am AWARE this is vague as hell bc i don't want anyone to get their hopes up about certain characters appearing and then just not doing that. the more i think it through via writing this post, the more i'm leaning towards removing that one character i originally had not swearing the tenants bc dear god it's getting comedic how many strays the tanos are acquiring at this point 💀 four feels more manageable than five, especially bc luke and leia aren't even talking during this fic even tho i do try and give them some personality. so, two young characters and the main pairing feels doable, i guess? i'm feeling less overwhelmed now that i've typed this up but still a bit clownish when considering how ambitious this stupid fic is 😭

Yeah, I mean they treated Nesta and Elain very differently in terms of how their powers manifested. I suppose that’s also partly to do with how volatile Nesta was at the time, which is why they felt more immediate action was necessary?

Either way, having seen how Nesta was isolated and shipped off—even if it was greatly beneficial in the long term—makes her pretty reluctant to expose herself in a way that could put her in a similar situation :/

About Saiyans meaning a lot to me-- yeah. I wish I could remember the interview it was revealed in, but he was asked about it at some point to where he said something to the effect of "I didn't know how to design them/couldn't figure out their appearance", something like that. It stuck with me because like I've mentioned in my Toriyama post, many toxic (as in sexist/misogynistic fanboys and overall creepy ass people) tried to make DB a thing I wasn't allowed to participate in, all because I was born a girl which was and is-- bullshit. Women aren't a different fuckin' species, man. We like the same shit as men sometimes and that's alright. Trying to put me into a girly girl box is what made me into a rebellious ass tomboy (much like Videl who I somewhat related to, growing up). Only in my late teens/early adult years did I embrace my femininity (yes, I was vain and shallow like Bulma at times. I was also a bit too loose with money when I had some, so I understand her casual attitude regarding her wealth, but that's neither here or there). Point is there was and always have been room for female fans of the series, so when I heard that from the horse's mouth himself? Yeah, it was a wrap. That was it. Nobody could tell me SHIT. That's one thing about me: If I learn something is true and it makes my life easier, I will not listen to anything else. I'll do my own thing. I'm a bit stubborn like that but trust me, it's a good stubborn. Otherwise, I'm very open-minded about many things and I'm a good listener.

As I stated on more than one occasion, I started RPing in a chatroom of an anime-pirating website, while I watched DBZ Kai. After I finished the anime (and lost my original RP group of friends), I coped by scouring the Internet for more RP forums and platforms, of which eventually led me to Facebook. I ran into some mishaps here and there in the DBZ RP space but that aside, the highs were worth it and I stayed for a long while. I mostly specialized in Android/Cyborg OCs and Saiyan OCs. So yes, you are right by saying Maiz (as in RPC!Maiz's template) comes from my 2018 fanfiction but also predates it by SEVERAL YEARS because every female Saiyan I had from the age of 12 and up was essentially a prototype of who Maiz would become. Long story short, Maiz grew with me, even when her names before were: Rayearth (my og username on the chatroom/anime website), Beats, Serori, Celeri, and later Jinjā. Rayearth was able to go Super Saiyan and she was the angry-punchy type. She was closer to Vegeta in temperament and haughty as all hell. Beats was a bit more humble with a hint of cockiness. This was around the time I started playing around with morality and all that, so she was less of a Vegeta type but still rough around the edges. I think I implied she could go Super Saiyan but can't remember if it happened in any threads. Serori was much more humble and quiet-- introspective. However, she could be hostile if approached too quickly or suddenly. She was the first low-class Saiyan I ever made. Celeri was a jump off of that because someone had the same name as my OC so I changed her around*. She was extroverted, but not too much. I guess you could call her a quasi-Goku type, if Goku was Mid-Class and a woman. I changed the rank because I wanted to explore the classism aspect of the Saiyans and my OC's relationship between her and her inherent power. She was morally gray, if I remember correctly.

*A bit petty of me, I'm sure-- but I was immature and a moody teenager who only had her creativity to express herself with. Anything too similar to me back then felt like an attack on my personhood and individuality. Thankfully, I'm a mature adult who's grown past that trauma response from childhood.

Jinjā came in 2015. I was 16 going on 17, about to enter college. Stopped RPing some time before this, because well, I had to focus on school and life stuff. This is what she originally looked like:

She has no story, because she wasn't made with one in mind. I just missed having a female Saiyan to think/write about. She was truly random, a burst of inspiration that heavily looms over Maiz's current design. Jinjā has red, short, choppy hair because Seripa/Fasha was her base design. I wanted something different to make her stand out, or else she'd just look like a clone or twin. That's all. Fasha being the base is also where the earrings comes from, since she had them. (This was just before I started embracing cosmetics and accessories). While she didn't really have anything to her, the basic idea was to go back to my roots: a rough-and-tumble Saiyaness who can pack a mean punch and rock your shit even if it kills her-- even if she fails. Hence my attempt at blood and making her look badass/intimidating. Muscles and female anatomy was hard for me, still is slightly-- but I'm getting the hang of it. Anyhoo, I believe my intentions-- if I fleshed her out more-- would've been for her to be a Bardock-type. Fun fact: Battle of Gods came out a month before this redesign did, so I got some confused looks when asked if this was SSG (Red) and I said no. I wasn't a huge fan of the movie so I didn't really see it until later. Only clips and such on YouTube. I warmed up to it eventually.

While going back to college for the second time (2018-2019), I got into Super properly with the introduction of Broly in DB Super: Broly. I enjoyed the Future Trunks/Goku Black Saga but the narrative nightmare within the anime's climax (and the manga's middle part) was a tough pill for me to swallow. The movie though-- despite the minor grievances I have with it-- hit all the right spots: Saiyan lore! Saiyan culture! POLITICS!!! Space-Opera! Sci-fi!!!!!! Around this time, I was finally inspired to do something else for this fandom I've had a tumultuous relationship with-- write a fan fiction. Jinjā's redesign was imminent:

She got renamed in reference to her mom, who was now Seripa/Fasha's older sister as a nod to the latter being a design base. Karne comes the Japanese spelling of karnels (kaneru, if I have that correct) because she's frustratingly slow to anger like popcorn-- the pun she's based off of. (Fasha in other media, such as the games has always been described as the opposite: short tempered, fierce and feisty. She's staunchly loyal to her crew too, as implied in the movie and in those same games if you pay attention to her dialogue). With this, it only made sense to have the updated version of Jinjā follow the pun as:

To summarize: Maiz became Maiz in 2019, in the wake of DB Super: Broly. (It came out that year in the U.S). In the fanfic she originates from, she is the last female Saiyan, and that weighs on her all the time. Incidentally, Story!Maiz is much more sympathetic while remaining a frosty a--hole. Her trauma is much more apparent and while she's not exactly the nicest person in the Galaxy, it's much more clear to see why: she has attachment issues, which makes getting to know her difficult, she has trust issues, anger issues from surviving a bloody and rather violent/sudden genocide of her people at a young and tender age, she can't remember the last time she slept well, has frequent nightmares of being abandoned by her mother (she was the one who shoved her into an escape pod). She thinks there's no value to her life because she's been traveling through outer space with Turles for six years consecutively and there were several planets/galactic sectors who didn't even know what a Saiyan was. They were lucky to find remains. (Cut tails, boots, bones, dust/ashes, name tags, etc etc. The sights were very, very grisly. And she kept seeing the same things for six. Years. Straight). All of this turned her into a very bitter, negative person who became a straw nihilist. She kind of just wanted to pass away quietly in some corner somewhere, not because she felt remorse for being a Saiyan/the effects of her kin but because she had her entire life upended on a sadistic whim. There was nothing to live for in her eyes. She thought Turles was stupid for having hope after a while and became jaded. While she was stronger than Turles in terms of raw power, she had a issue with not wanting to preserve her ki for important situations. He constantly had to watch over her like a big brother and she absolutely resented him for it (misguided anger, anyone?). It didn't help that he remembered more of Saiyan life than she could. All in all, she was tragic and a bit too edgy probably, but she would grow out of her frosty shell with the introduction of Broly. She reluctantly bonded with him over time on their ship as Saiyan Squad (what I called them out of text) made their way to Earth to settle the score with Vegeta. Paragus didn't do anything for her but make her angry at first-- all this time she's convinced herself there were no more Saiyans and then she sees this old man still kicking somehow? Of course she'd be livid. (Paragus, over his short presence in her life until his death at Vegeta's hands proved to be effective; he became a makeshift father figure and imparted some words of wisdom of which she'd take to heart, post Broly fight. Turles was pretty devastated too and they would finally be the brother-sister duo he's always known they could have been. It's bittersweet and sad, tbh).

Anyway, that's the evolution process. As for why she looks like this in universe-- I'm gonna be honest and say I got it from Father of Goku. There were different looking Saiyans in there, two women have blue hair. Super Saiyan has green eyes and blonde hair. Who's to say there aren't natural green eyed Saiyans who existed? Or blondes? Dark hair can mean black and/or brown, so why not both? Same with dark eyes! Make them brown, hazel, chestnut, almost black or straight up black. Etc etc. (As a reminder, Fasha has purple eyes! PURPLE). If you look at official artworks/some colored manga covers and whatnot, Goku's actually tan. Hell, Future Trunks is basically apricot or a peachy skin tone. If you want a triple whammy??? Read the manga. No, seriously. There are OFFICIAL scans that has Trunks with red hair instead of the Super Saiyan blonde. And those are mistakes from Toriyama himself. Look at Z Broly and all his in between stages-- blue hair, greenish-yellow hair, etc. It's really not that hard to create a unique looking Saiyan, or justify it-- so I feel like the whole dark hair and dark eyes should be overlooked/not a big deal. I also just don't like how restrictive it is from a narrative/in universe standpoint. It's not fun to play with.

johnny: johnnys eyes have a few unique properties, with very minor colour changes based on emotion. his iris is like a red-brown-orange gradient-ish?? and saturates or desaturated depending on which spectrum of emotion hes on. saturated for the positive, desaturated for the negative. the interesting ones is when hes become too pissed off for his own good, and thats when it turns red. seeing red when im mad taken literally HAGAJDGJAHSA and when hes frightened or startled, they go just a slight off-white, this might be a slight reference to his original eye colour???, which is a dark grey, im not sure why i changed his eye colour, but i did. theyre also able to glow in the dark at will, similar to a torch, but dont actually project much light, or, like a cat, the pupils also reflect light, and do that thing where it goes like a greeny-yelliw colour. ough this was a long one.

whisker: uhhhh whisker cant stay afloat in water if hes stationary. he has to keep paddling to keep himself afloat, or he just. sinks like a fuckin rock. he most commonly doggy paddles (or kitty paddle HAGAGDGAHRWSH)
