So reading Sarah J Maas and her very, very shitty interpretation and (under)utilization of fae lore is inspiring me to create a personal list of books I've read that I feel like have like... ACTUAL faeries and folklore in them (not the normal-looking-hot-folks-with-pointy-ears-and-MAYBE-wings brand of faerie SJM popularized), and are actually worth your time

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

Very eerie fairytale vibes that center on the aftermath of the disappearance, and even more mysterious return, of three sisters when one of them goes missing again almost 10 years later. And also the writing is legit just B E A U T I F U L!!!

Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

This is chock-full of classical faeries and folklore, and almost reads like a textbook about them since this is about a woman, the titular Emily Wilde, traveling to a Scandinavian country to complete her own encyclopedia about the fair-folk. It also features some lowkey cottagecore vibes and an academic rivals-to-lovers romance!

Gilded (Gilded #1) by Marissa Meyer

A retelling of Rumpelstiltskin that reads like its own dark Grimm's fairytale, and it's as eerie and grim as a YA fantasy novel can get. It also centers on themes of telling stories and folktales since the main character, Serilda, is infamous for spinning wild tales - which is what leads to her encounter with the famed, and feared, Earlking (who, as a villain, is so sinister and creepy - and utterly FAE!). Personally, this book wasn't really my cup of tea and I'm unsure if I'll read the sequel, Cursed, however it still has some classic fae vibes that SJM's work lacks, so it deserves a place on this list!

The Changeling by Victor LaValle

I'm using the term 'faerie' very loosely here, as the idea of changelings (and trolls), for me, is more of a narrative device to help us look into grief in fatherhood. But there is still a very strange, vaguely Pans Labyrinth-esque urban fantasy vibe playing in the background throughout!

Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom

Not necessarily FAERIES but more of mischievous and distrustful woodland folk - and also forest gods. Very heavily steeped in early colonial America era folk horror vibes... if you love media like Robert Eggers' The VVitch then you will ADORE this book! Also Brom's accompanying artwork is so, so beautiful! This is honestly such a perfect fall-time read once Halloween season rolls around.

Legendborn Cycle series by Tracy Deonn

Ok no faeries but... mixes classic Arthurian legends with southern Black beliefs while also telling an epic urban fantasy story centering on themes of grief, trauma, and prejudice. So no fae, but LOTS of great urban fantasy vibes (which I mean... if you're looking for more series to put on your shelf instead of Harry Potter......) Just... Please... just... this series... it's so GOOD!! IDK what else to add that hasn't been said about this series!

Once again, not necessarily faeries in this book but instead vampires that have a very fae-like quality about them! (as well as blood-hungry butterflies and caterpillars hee-hee) The story as a whole feels like a whimsical fever dream that is STEEPED in tasty Gothic vibes! It sort of has the feeling of being in a late '90s/early '00s Goth music video.

Like Falling Stars by Avalon Roselin (@roselin-books-official)

A story about a girl who's forgotten her past and comes to develop a sweet friendship with a brooding ice faerie prince, and is brimming with so many cozy fantasy vibes!! Also all the fae characters in this novel are so colorful and lively, and they're all very heavily tied to elements and the seasons. Also ALSO!! The main relationship focuses primarily on platonic love as opposed to romantic, and is just as endearing! A perfect cozy winter/fall-time read.

Netvor: A Retelling of Beauty and the Beast by @rosesnwater

Both a completed novel and an in-progress webcomic available to read on Tapas and Webtoons. Again, another story where major themes center on storytelling and fairytales, but also recovering from trauma and grief! There are so, so many classic faerie vibes, and even featuring pinnacle figures from classic fae lore like the Goblin Market, and it manages to feel equal parts nostalgic and unique in its use of faerie lore!

Dandies in Danger podcast by @dandiesindanger

A table-top RPG podcast instead of a novel! It features four queer men that are dragged into a world of fae and horror, all while set against the backdrop of Regency era London. It starts as a VERY eerie fae mystery (featuring figures like Titania and Oberon), but it slowly becomes a dark, horror historical-fantasy, and it's great! Also art by the podcast's creators is so good!

I have returned. And today I come with quite a number of ships so like brace yourselves, I'll keep popping in between my work. Speaking of prongsfoot, can we talk about just how perfect Remus/Peter would be?

1. They'll be the EPITOME of soft cottagecore. Baking, reading, picnics, growing plants, taking care of any wounded animals in the nearby area they'll just be so sidnsmsjdlsnsjdb

2. Peter knits. And he makes all the sweaters for Remus. And Remus absolutely adores watching him walking around with yarn and needles just going at it whenever wherever he gets the chance to

3. Cut to Remus being absolutely destroyed when it gets to him that Sirius killed his boyfriend but not being able to do anything as he sinks into his mind and never comes out. The reason he goes to Hogwarts in Harry's 3rd year is because he knows Sirius will be there. Him trying to kill him and Sirius trying to explain what really happened. And him demanding proof cause he's never seen Sirius be more... serious about anything else. And then the betrayal he feels when he sees said proof. Cut to him burning all the sweaters.

4. In this scenario, I like to think Peter started our as a spy for Dumbledore but he got turned into a death eaters for reals. Or he thought that the baby Voldy was targeting was actually Neville and he convinced himself that once Neville was taken care of, all his friends and his boyfriend will be safe. I have no idea where I'm going with this

5. They're both not players but they'll go up to the stands whenever prongsfoot is practicing and it'll be a cute double date

6. Remus can't figure out his feelings and talk about them for the life of him. But Peter, even tho shy, is very honest and cut the crap kind of person. With a little encouragement from Jamie, it works out really well.

7. Peter started getting into poetry because of Remus. (I actually was gonna type books there but my fingers just went and said poetry so we're going with it) He first started reading them to impress Remus but he couldn't actually understand them much. Later he fell in love with them. Or more specifically, he fell in love with how excited Remus got when talking about them. They'll both be in the kitchen and Peter will be walking around doing whatever needs to be done for what he is baking and Remus will be sat in one corner of the tabletop and talking animatedly about whichever poem he read/ was reading.

8. Ohhh they'll be so soft with each other I'm gonna cry. Sorry I'm making my point again. But like imagine like blurry sunlight coming in through paper thin curtains and baby's breathe flowers nestled between sunflowers and the smell of a bakery and the comfort in old sweaters and soft shy glances and pinkies intertwined and wishing on dandelions. That's them.

Ok I actually really likes doing that (8). It was kind of like a moodboard but with words. I'm gonna start doing it for all the ships now hehe. I'll come back later and do the same for the older ships I was ranting to you about (do you maybe happen to remember which ones they were? Or do you have them tagged?)

9. Their shipname would probably be "Moontail" I think... other possibilities are wormy which just sounds like a nickname for Pete. Or moonworm which isn't that bad ig but idk.

1- You know already because i am an npc with 4 dialogue lines at max and i keep complaining about all the same stuff LMAO. But yeah. Definitely Maria. The majority of the fandom sees her as either 1) outright heroic or 2) as tragic but not in a way that gives her agency but in a "oooh le poor manipulated woman who didn't know what was going on" while still trying to potray her as a girlboss who takes no shit from no one which at best makes her look inconsistent at worst makes her look as dumb as rocks. Let your female chatacters be messy y'all!!. - So for starters for when Im gonna draw Bryan, Im thinking of making Bryan look like an older version of Steve, but wearing the clothes OG!Bryan is wearing (the black and red outfit). With the faceplates and stuff, and maybe lomg hair-

- And also i feel like since when TFF!Afton showed up everyone called him Springtrap instead of Afton, RS!Maggie is gonna tell RS!Afton to call Bryan Steve instead

- Also, for Afton, I feel like in this AU he either goes by Afton or Will

- Maggie's personality is just gonna stay the same, but now she's small and helps Afton with the first pizzeria

- The suit Gregory possesses (since him and Baby/Elizabeth swapped) is a little clown boy

- Clara and Afton were together at one point in college, but then they broke up. She ended up later on coming back and becoming friends with Afton again, but then after Afton dies, she tries poking around Kat's pizzeria (as well as other places) to figure out what tf happened to him, Happy Frog kills her and she possesses Ballora, who is now at Kat's location in this AU

- Ballora is still a dancer in this AU, but since she's at Kat's pizzeria, she has more of a cottagecore aesthetic and a different dance style, and she's supposed to just be this kind mother figure

- As for Vanny, she'd be at the sister location and is supposed to be the Bonnie in that location (aside from BonBon ofc). Valerie ends up possessing her tho (in this AU, Valerie was a friend of Bryan's as well as the CFO, until she started looking too much into things, so Bryan killed her)

- Pat is actually an animatronic in this AU, bc in his universe, he actually went through with his idea of becoming one, tho he ended up sorta regretting it, so he's been trying to get the portal timer to figure out a way to change back. He also didn't actually reveal he was an animatronic until later on, and used some sort of technology (i don't f**king know how, im tired-) to present as human for small periods of time. That way he was able to manipulate Afton easier-

- Glitchtrap is just a normal human in this AU who im just gonna give the name Glitch bc what the f**k else do I call him- I might call him Vincent, I don't know- Basically instead of an engineering degree like OG!Pat had, he's working on a coding degree (tho he does know basic animatronic repair). He's honestly just constantly just going through it, and is trying to just get through college with a good paying job, only to suddenly get roped into Afton's bs- Also idea: Just try to try and keep portions of OG!Glitchtrap as part of his character, while he is good at simple coding and with repairing the already existing animatronics, when it comes to creating his own animatronics, they tend to accidentally come out corrupted or trying to kill everyone- Also, instead of an obsession with the idea of becoming an animatronic like OG!Pat, he instead has a fascination with moving to another universe completely and constantly thinks about the idea in his free time despite knowing that it wouldn't be easy or a good idea-

As a person whose never cared much for appearance and never wears makeup, finding a look and an aesthetic that appeals to you and makes you feel confident and excited about actually dressing up or getting a certain look, i think it's great. I think people just like finding a look that speaks to you as a person and finding pride and confidence in your appearance is a pretty good thing to an extent idk??

I think sometimes people swing too far with their anti make up anti beauty standards thing because like, the times in my life where i didn't give a shit about my appearance and wore sweatpants all the time were not exactly the happiest times.

First of all, I want to say I'm happy that you found something that makes you feel happy and good about yourself and I didn't mean for my tags to come across as shame-y. I'm not an anti-makeup/beauty person at all; I'm someone who's had a complicated and ongoing relationship with makeup. I used to wear a full face everyday, no matter the weather or occasion. For years. And it became a huge part of my identity and what people thought of when they saw me. And I liked that, because they saw that instead of my other less attractive qualities, like my weight or acne or insecurity. And I also enjoyed makeup. It was fun and I was good at it. And then the pandemic hit, and I still wear makeup very occasionally, and I'm still reckoning with it. But I think that relationship with it became a lot healthier. When I no longer felt the need to hide behind this faux makeup-guru persona, I slowly stopped caring about makeup so much. And I stopped buying it. And I stopped watching beauty vloggers, because I didn’t feel the need or desire anymore. Again, I still wear makeup, but I wear it differently (though often to look “professional” or “put together” or “not tired” but that’s a whole different conversation).

But that's not really what the post was about, IMO. It was about the specific aesthetics that people hold fast to and it dictates their personas on instagram and tumblr, their clothing and makeup choices, where they shop, how they eat, how they talk, and who they interact with on and offline. And how people act when they’re alone. For example, some people who are into dark academic or egirl or cottagecore or scrunchie girl (I forget the name for that one) or whatever else, there are too many now to count, are so far into it that they forget it's...an illusion. And that things outside of that warm-toned or cool-toned or pixel-pink aesthetic can also be pretty and valid and "cool" and I think it can be damaging, especially for young people, to become so invested in an aesthetic and living up to it in every aspect of their persona that they forget about developing their own personality, because no one is going to be a little Draco Malfoy dark academic and no one's going to be a Hello Kitty soft pink pixel girl in real life. Because it's not achievable! But influencers and companies make money by modeling their products and their brands around these aesthetics and I think it's just another way capitalism makes people compartmentalize to find their "group," and young people are already desperate to find their people and themselves.

I don't think that liking some aesthetic or finding your style through one of these is bad. I think when someone starts building their life and personality based around a singular, rigid aesthetic that was invented online 5-10 years ago and doesn't allow themselves to intake content that doesn't fit that mold that it's very damaging. I'm glad that you found some peace and pride within yourself and your appearance and we should all have confidence, and if it comes from an outside source, that's totally fine. But I just think it's important to analyze it and not go too far to the point that it's detrimental. And I like pretty things. A lot! But life isn't just about pretty things, and that's what holding these "aesthetics" in such high regard does.

Hello! I don't really know if you take asks or stuff like that, but I really liked your ineffable buddies au! (If that was what it was called...) and I thought of a bit of an outline, if you don't mind me sharing...

Tubbo and Ranboo are obviously the husbands, thought I think they warmed up to each other before they left eden to be honest. They talked to each other all the time, to the point that they invented "platonic feelings". They decided to get married when they realized it would get them visas and tax benefits to the different places they were living in.

The SBI family would most likely be the four horsemen. Wilbur could be pollution, like the dirty crime boy he is. Philza would most definitely be Death. I think I would put Tommy as war, cause while Techno can win the battle, Tommy definitely starts them with no problem. Techno could be famine then.... idk how to tie it in, maybe something with potatoes? Anyway, Tommy is Tubbo's best friends, seeing that he would always help in his schemes to cause trouble. Actually, all the horsemen are pretty nice and knows them pretty well. Since the horsemen got summoned and actually don't want the world to end, they sorta half ass their parts to prolong it like riding together really slow, or being "defeated" by the Them.

Plot twist, Michelle is the antichrist, and was meant to live with the President Schlatt and his husband Quackity(who only adopted to boost their popularity, mind you) but was accidently mixed up with Micheal and ended up living with the lovely couple of Puffy and Niki. Ranboo and Tubbo were tasked to raise it as the antichrist, but they became absolutely smittened with him and lovingly cared for him as their own son.

The Them as said by someone else could be Foolish Jr, Michelle, and Micheal(who probs got in contact via pen pal or something). When they face off against the horsemen, Techno pretends to be defeated by Micheal after being in the shin once, screaming monotonously and lying on floor for the rest of the time. Michelle sends Philza somewhere nice, like a beach or something, them distracts Wilbur with guitar. Foolish Jr straight up strikes Tommy with lightning and says his dad taught him how. No one knows how he did it.

Heaven could be Dream, George, Skeppy, Foolish and Karl as archangels, with DreamXD being God. On the flipside, Sapnap, Jack Manifold, Punz, Hannah and BadBoyHalo are the demons. (Also, for some unknown reason, I like to imagine that when Quackity leaves Schlatt, he meets Sapnap and Karl, and they fall in love, a angel, a demon and a human!)

Awesamdude and Ponk could be Anthema and Newt respectively (fun if rather than break computers, Ponk would accidently burn most fruit plants.) That means Antfrost and his boyfriend could be shadwell and pomfrey...

I think I went on too long... sorry! That's some of my ideas, they can be totally changed or something else. Let me know what you think pls!

I just imagine the very conservative type angels, where they don't like demons and angels talking or communicating with eachother, just be in a state of shock and disappointment everytime. Same with demons.

At first I thought of schlatt being satan because of the obvious stuff (the horns and being pretty evil) and I wanted dadschlatt drama, but his being president works surprising well

DAISIES!!! They’re so simple and cheery have just as many colors and look delicate but are actually really tenacious? Also, how charming is Day’s Eye (and asters in general having the habit of facing eachother if they’re not turned towards the light--I think I have a picture of dahlias doing this from last autumn--and like. Star Flower. Okay, I’ll shut up now xD )

classical or lofi:

...okay so I admit I had to look this one up. But easily some of my favorite tracks are those Hidden Ones that bands plop onto their albums to fill up leftover space, but are often basically just scrapped recording or practice sessions? The bloopers and their creative process, basically. Cut to me googling and youtubing it and finding hiphop lofi and...yeah! Definitely Lofi.

(Classical vs OST and Modern Classical (that’s composed to be a lot more cinematic) just...really puts me on edge. It’s too mathematical...to put it nicely.)

So...yeah. Slow beats and something that sounds experimental or like a jamming session? It’s soothing and kinda ideal for background noise.

sunrises or sunsets:

Sunset. One, never ever gonna be a “morning person”. Forget it. Two, sunsets often have more dramatic colors and still make the landscape glow and you get to see stars peeping out vs fading. Also, y’know. I’m actually awake to appreciate it vs groggy and legit physically ill.

honey or lemon:

Honey as a condiment. Lemon for sweets flavor. (Baklava’s probably the exception...then again I haven’t had that many honey-flavored sweets, I guess? But Lemon-Poppyseed?? Definitely one of my favorites,)

coffee or tea:

Coffee. I adore tea service aesthetics and will someday probably collect them (especially the really quirky or earthen or blownglass ones vs the froufrou european ones)...buuuut, I just haven’t really had A Good Cuppa Tea much at all. There was this spiced tea I’ve had in Jordan that was AMAZING and I do like greentea (with...A LOT of sugar or honey...) but. I’ve just never really had tea. My family’s coffee drinkers, so the smell of coffee is nostalgic. (And yes, I’m basic enough that I prefer flavored, sweetened creamers; and my coffee brewed or spiced with, like, cinnamon and nutmeg, too. Or as a mocha.)

...I also have a Bad Habit of abandoning my Herbal “Teas” with the bags either left steeping too long (I have gotten better at using a timer) or while waiting for them to cool. And while I’d just really love it for Uncle Iroh to make me tea (provided he doesn’t get on my case about wanting sugar and maybe cream), the Times and Temperatures are just so dang fussy!! I...don’t think I have the patience for that.

enemies to lovers or friends to lovers:

Friends to Lovers. I just...don’t Get It with the sexual tension~ that seems to be the driving force behind enemies to lovers...I guess?? (That, and unless it’s literally on a battlefield, HARD PASS. I’ve had people try to blow off my complaints about getting repeatedly tormented as “he liiiiiikes you~” bullshit to ever be comfortable with it as anything but Legit Two Sides Of A Battle/Political Conflict. Sorry.)

But, Friends to Lovers? That Bond. And then the ...Oh. The domesticity and trust and safety. Also it is RIPE for Idiots to Lovers mutual pining xD

(bonus points if both parties decide ahead of time, “hey. even if dating doesn’t work out I still value your friendship in my life, so no pressure about ‘ruining things,’“ And then, of course, it does work out and there was nothing to be anxious about, after all.)

...cop out but, overcast days with Soft Sunlight and Cloudbreaks?? I do like a clear skies sunny day, but, my eyes are also so sensitive to light that it can be painful. Rainy days can be soothing...but the rain has to be A Certain Way. Too heavy and with too much wind behind it and it can get me anxious. (My childhood home had Every Rain is Severe Weather...with no place to shelter. It’s gonna take awhile before i can appreciate it like i’d want.)

Jupiter. GIANT. DEADLY. MARBLE (that wants to eeeaaat meeeee...) Also Pluto, and the jovian moons.

Athena!! She’s an ace icon, aight?? And also strikes me as...very, very Tired with everyone’s bullshit. Also...all the greek gods are kinda assholes. So. Yeah. She ain’t perfect and her characterization’s at the mercy of whatever myth in question, but generally she strikes me as practical and sensible and having Mercy...sometimes. As much as that group is capable of it, anyway...

...probably Ancient Rome as a “ancient culture to explore but a YIKES (but. so is ancient greece.)” But visiting IRL in the present? Greece.

sun or moon:

Moon. I appreciate what the sun does and I do like feeling sunlight and all that...but, I’m also a night person. And I can look at the moon without risk of blindness and admire its corona and that rainbow corona you can see just a bit further out if you know where and how to look. BUT. The moon easily loses out to a starfield, especially if the light pollution and humidity are both low enough that ya get to actually see the milky way’s galaxy arm. (The irony that the sun IS our local star does not elude me.)

1920s or 1990s:

...neither?? 90s only slightly win out ‘cause I’m a ‘93 Kid and the 90s and 00s had some incredible toys and cartoons. And, idk. I still like overall pants and shorts. Always have. While a flapper dress would be “oooh pretty! starlight beading! Now OFF. Back to regular clothes for ‘Sporing or Comfy Lounging.”

Sage green. It’s kinda a nostalgic color somehow? Also. Just not a fan of monochrome...at all. I see it? I instantly want it to be a backdrop. Negative space. For COLOR. (jewel tones for whites/light neutrals and browns; NEONS for blacks and dark greys. Preference for Jewel Tones over Neons...wait. What was the question again??? OH YEAH..uh... ...why would you do this to me. I make a beeline for croissants because...Soft Flaky Buttery Bread. And they are So Good as a savory sandwich sorta thing. Easily better than english muffins or crumpets, tho biscuits have a fighting chance. But LIKE. Soft breads. My weakness as a kid.

...but a good macaroon?? It is so light and crisp and TINY and like?? how does it taste like coffee??? and berries????? (Too bad they are So EXPENSIVE. While even cheap croissants are almost always Good.)

I like the aesthetics of a ballgown. But never the pricetag, I wouldn’t wanna live in that thing for more than an hour, tops (and. so much damn work!!) and I’m stuck looking at them Defying (boob) Physics and just...dying a little inside. With my rare It Pretty Want Pretty wilting with it. But...it’s rare that pantsuits really...look like anything. (They also look uncomfortable and yet another Wardrobe Disaster and Do I HAVE To??? if I think about...actually wearing them. But, Legs Free No Tripping...I guess??)

light academia or cottagecore:

Honestly? A mix between the two. Cottagecore with my charming little home with its overgrown flowerbed of wildflowers (and asters! All the asters) and produce grown in large pots or hanging baskets...and inside the walls are covered with overflowing shelves of books and knicknacks and other Neat Things. Oh, and naturally a tea service (might not actually have tea in it...) and tons of pillows and blankets, and lamps and lanterns Everywhere for warm and soft (and colorful) light to read by while music plays softly in the background. And the home smells like something I just made for Supper or Snacks, or like a food-scented candle.

uh...both? Idk, I’m kind of a wildflower or at least variety kind of girl. Mixing big flowers with little flowers and other florist type stuff? Go for it. My team at work got me flowers when I had surgery last year, and they were really cool and sort of autumn-y but I know nothing about flowers so I have no idea what they were.

classical or lofi:

uhhhhhh...so I had no idea that lofi was a thing until just now. I know enough about classical music to appreciate it as an art form, but honestly my taste in music is super basic and just...bad. Music for me is mostly just background stimulation so I can focus on something else, so super predictable, all sounds the same pop music? Exactly what I’m here for. Won’t distract me.

sunrises or sunsets:

Sunsets. Does anyone really like sunrises better who isn’t trying to hard? (don’t answer that, I think I have members of my own family who do). But I love the spontaneity of a good sunset. Being able to just glance out the window and see a wonder of nature while you’re cooking dinner or whatever is great. Also sunsets are warmer.

honey or lemon:

Honey. It’s just so pretty and a unique color and watching it drip down all viscus and smooth...

coffee or tea:

I actually don’t drink coffee, so this is a pretty obvious tea. But I especially like herbal teas in the winter because they’re hot and just holding the mug is comforting and warms your up, but they don’t have all the sugar and richness of hot chocolate so they feel refreshing too.

enemies to lovers or friends to lovers:

Seeing as my favorite ship dynamic is “1000% committed to each other forever and no matter what + Mutual Awe/Respect” and THEN a dose of “Wait, what, you like me back????” I am definitely a friends to lovers girl. Honestly, stories that skip of the establishing deep friendship part often just feel off to me.

I don’t really like enemies to lovers if they’re actual enemies. But like, mutual irritants to lovers? “I started out annoyed with you but now we’ve gotten to know each other and oh crap, I think I have a crush”? THAT I can get behind.

rainy days or sunny days:

Sunny for sure. I don’t like when the sky feels too close and confining when it’s raining. And I just need the sunlight to feel like...awake and like a human haha. But I do like a big, powerful thunderstorm with warm rain. Unfortunately, we don’t get those where I live now. Just cold rain storms that feel like spikes of ice.

jupiter or mars:

SATURN. This answer is informed entirely by 3 year old me who read a “our solar system” book and immediately started making up fanfic about it  got really into the solar system and cemented Saturn as my favorite planet. I was really angry as a 3 year old that Jupiter beat out Saturn as the biggest planet, so Jupiter is forever on my “bad” list. And Mars is just dry and boring. No, I have not updated my opinions since I was 3 years old.

aphrodite or athena:

Athena, obvs. Most my life, my goal has been 1) be the smartest person in the room and 2) know EVERYTHING. I’ve only recently learned the value of say...be kind. Which is actually FAR more important, but I still really like knowledge and learning everything I can.

Also, I love pretty and beautiful things, but sex and romantic love aren’t really my thing haha

rome or greece:

I’ve always gravitated a bit more towards Greece. Rome feels just too bureaucratic and “rigorous engineering” to me. I like the more open ended science-y and artsy vibe of Greece. But then, I’m a woman so I’d probably hate actually being in either ancient society. Instead I’ll just study it from a nice, safe, several centuries distance.

Oooo, both are good but probably the sun. It has so much COLOR to it and so many interesting properties and mysteries (How is the corona so hot? What exactly cause sun spots? What’s up with the magnetic field). And like again...COLOR. Did you know that the element helium is named about helios because it was first discovered as mysterious lines in the spectrum of the sun. We didn’t find helium on earth until much later. Spectroscopy is awesome.

1920s or 1990s:

well I existed in the 1990s, so clearly that makes the 90s much better. Also, I never quite got what was the appeal and glamour of the 1920s. I will say the 20s fashion is better than the 90s fashion so there is that.

blizzard or thunderstorm:

Oh boy. So blizzards SOUND cool, but then it’s cold and I think about having to DRIVE in the blizzard because this is Colorado and what, you think we’re going to close for a silly little thing like snow? The after effects of the blizzard, when it gets all quite like it only can when there’s lots of snow, and the streets have cleared off enough but most the snow is still untouched? That is much better. And sorta magical. Although still cold.

I...think I like thunderstorms. I did as a kid, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good one. Also high winds freak me out now, which is new. Idk why.

midnight memories or made in the am:

[googles] Ooooooh, so these are One Direction albums? Uh....I’m trying to think of what One Direction songs I like, but I’m only thinking of That’s What Makes You Beautiful which kinda annoys me these days so idk

sage green or vanilla white:

...are these more albums? Screw it, sage green. Although not my favorite shade of green, it is my second favorite color so there.

folklore or lover:

Like the Taylor Swift albums, right? Honestly, for a while I couldn’t get into lover, but I listened to folklore for like a month straight. betty made me literally stop the car to listen because “wait. is this about what I think it is??? is it?????” I also really like cardigan, and I listened to seven on repeat for weeks.

But I recently--like just two weeks ago--started to listen to lover, and I like it too. The Man is just on POINT. I like the miss americana song and nice to have a friend. 

Really, it just depends on the mood. Lover is more peppy and bubbly, and folklore is more low key, almost melancholy, and little waves lapping at the beach.

croissant or macaroon:

Croissant. I like the idea of macaroons, but I haven’t really loved them in practice. On the other hand, flaky conduit for butter and carbs?? Sign me up!

ballgowns or pantsuits:

I would LOVE a ballgown if I had a place to wear it to. Why do we have fancy things to dress up for anymore? I want swishy and curvy and soft fabric and jewels.... 

I can not honestly see myself ever wearing a pantsuit.

hades or zeus:

I’m pretty hooked on Lore of Olympus right now, so Hades. But then, even in the source material, all the gods are jerks but Zeus makes them look like model citizens, so definitely Hades. 

platonic love or sensual love:

[squints] “sensual love...” is this an allo thing??

Ahem. Platonic love. Emotional connection. That’s what I’m all about. I want it SO BAD and to see it portrayed in deep, loving detail in movies and books ALL THE TIME. Also, theoretically I like the idea of like cuddling and hugs, but some of my family really HATE it, so I find it hard to be touching someone and not worry they’re hating it or that I’m invading their space.

Fun fact: despite considering myself a fairly artistic person, I SUCK at interior design. I try and I don’t know what it is, but I am SO BAD at it. If someone could decorate my room/house to look better than if a 9 year old went at it, I would so grateful and it would a VAST improvement.
