the way people online talk about autism is getting really weird, like do they know that neurotypicals still have interests? that someone being passionate about a hobby doesn't mean they're autistic? you guys know that right

sometimes you just have to let yourself be a bit neurodivergent.
i hate going out, it gives me a lot of anxiety and sensory input that i dont like, and i am often forced to talk to people.
so i do this thing on more difficult days, or sometimes just for fun, where i "bring a fictional character with me". i walk and imagine Fictional Character walking next to me. they talk to me, reassure me, hype me up, whatever i need them to do.
today dean winchester came christmas shopping with me. he went over the list with me of stuff i needed to get, told me i was doing a good job every time i finished in a certain shop, reminded me to take a deep breath when i got a little overwhelmed.
and yea. its kinda silly. and i know its just me talking to myself in a different voice, but it Works! especially since all of my special interests/hyperfixations tend to be tv/movie related.
so do what you gotta do to Get Shit Done. stop holding yourself to neurotypical standards. if you need Fictional Character to tell you you're doing a good job, do it! if you need Favourite Singer to walk you to school, do it! yea it might feel silly but you're literally fighting against your own brain to get stuff done every single day. you can have a little self indulgent daydream, as a treat.

question: do ppl ACTUALLY say things they don’t mean when they’re angry? or is that just an excuse after letting something true slip? i wouldn’t ever say something i don’t mean in anger, so the concept confuses me.
but something was said to me that is bothering me, though apparently was said in an argument and wasn’t meant. but i don’t rlly believe it wasn’t like, deep down true thoughts/feelings??? anyone have any insight? anyone say things they don’t mean in anger?
EDIT: this was a hastily worded post that i didn’t expect to get notes. this is a genuine question asked in good faith that i got a lot of amazing answers to!
also re: the many ppl saying “OP is lying about not saying things they don’t mean in anger because everyone does it”— i genuinely have never done that. if i say something mean while angry, i meant it. that’s literally why i asked this question and why the concept confuses me, because i wouldn’t do something like that so i wanted perspective from people who do it. idk why y’all can’t believe that lmao not everyone is as prone to anger and outbursts

Me: how do I study as a neurodivergent person?
Google: how to help your autistic child study
Me: how to study as an autistic adult/teen
Google: teachers guide to how to deal with autistic children
Me: how do I study as an autistic teen/adult
Google: study tips for autistic people(-written by this allistic man that will talk about autistic people like they're zoo animals)
Me: how to study as a neurodivergent adult, tips from neurodivergent person to neurodivergent students, on how to study independently as an autistic person, no reliant support needed
Google: high functioning autism and school
Me: fuck just. How do I focus during this test that I'm in rn as an AuDHD person
Google: ok, so, to focus on this thing that you currently are doing and need to get done TODAY; weeks before the test you'll need to eat healthy and exercise, meditate, study, set timers, take breaks, drink water, sleep, find the secrets to a happy life, adopt five children, sacrifice a goat, take short showers, brush your teeth
Executive dysfunction:
My fucking deadline:

This poll is strictly for autistic people only, and thus does not have a "see results" option. If you're allistic (not autistic) please refrain from voting.
Respectfully, this poll isn't for non-autistic people! It's actually for a slideshow presentation I'm working on for school, therefore please only participate if you are Autistic.
to be clear: this is NOT asking if there SHOULD be a cure for autism, as that is a different issue. this is simply asking, if it WAS possible through safe and ethical means, would you take the opportunity to cure YOURSELF. you're not making the decision for anyone else.
this poll was submitted by an anonymous user. if you have a poll you want to reach a larger audience, feel free to submit it to me, post it and @ me in the replies, or send me the link in an ask!

i feel like this is very importantTM to say, you dont need to be an expert in your special interest
marine biology is my special interest. i suck at identifying fish. i can identify one fish but only because i spent ages fixating on it. i couldnt tell you the scientific name of anything else.
when i was in primary school most of my information came from the octonauts since i wasnt allowed the internet, it was still my special interest then even when i hardly knew anything.
having a special interest doesnt mean you immediately become amazing at whatever it is, and thats totally ok. its ok to forget things, to not know things, for other people to know more about the thing. thats part of the fun, theres so much about everything to learn and improve on.
in my personal case there are thousands of scientists who know more than me. i may know more than my friends, but im 17. there are scientists who study the ocean for a living and its perfectly reasonable for them to know more than me
the only thing that matters is that it gives you energy, that you enjoy doing it, that its special to you

Going to break into your house with pots and pans and yell at you until you reframe your thinking of productivity to include more than just schoolwork or a salary or chores and the like.
Did you do a thing? Was there a positive result for you or someone else?
Congratulations, you did a Productivity!!!
You aren’t ALWAYS going to be able to have the energy to do what we consider traditionally productive. You won’t always have the motivation.
Yeah, maybe you could have spent two hours studying for that test instead of 15 minutes. Maybe you could have cleaned the kitchen instead of the dishes. And? That’s still something!
Productivity is doing things!! Did you eat food and drink water? You did something that helped your body work! Doodled in class? You made art! Even just posting theories and memes on tumblr dot com is a thing! You thought out the post, figured out how to organize it (even if you don’t realize you did that) and you made it! And now other people can see and you DID something and you should be proud!!!
Be proud of yourself or I am going to show up outside your window tonight and scream positive affirmations louder than a cat who has just discovered her food bowl is empty.

Hey folks you know those hyperspecific polls that are making the rounds on here?
THAT'S THE TYPE OF SHIT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAY WHEN YOU ARE ASKED FOR A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF (at least based on the polls I've seen). I know myself and a lot of other people hate having to come up with fun facts about themselves, so use these as a cheat sheet!
Literally, if you find one that's true, mentally save it as your fun fact to have ready about yourself. Please allow me to give you some potential fun facts from real polls on this site:
I *exclusively* wear novelty print socks. no plain ones at all
I can't ride a bike
tiramisù is my favorite dessert
I can speak and write fluently in pig latin
I am scared of moths
I know 30+ digits of pi (this is one I use as a fun fact regularly)
I grew up with a pet macaw
I currently want the same job that I did when I was 4
I have been buried in corn
I was once stranded on a mountain and had to be rescued
I’ve seen a bear in the wild more than once
My pet is named after a fictional character
I planted over three hundred thousand trees by hand
Any of these true about you? Awesome! Use it as a fun fact! If none of these are true for you feel free to look through other hyperspecific polls! Good luck!

pretty sure I’ve said this before but if you can understand why “everyone is a little bit autistic/adhd” is bad, you should be able to understand why “everyone is addicted to something” is bad. as an autistic alcoholic the hypocrisy is truly infuriating
we can talk about the grey area between addicts and non-addicts. we can talk about the arbitrary line that is drawn in order to make the categories more straight-forward. those things are true. but it is also true that there is a difference between my alcoholism and someone else’s intense love of video games or whatever else. not everyone is an addict

I mean I know autistic!Lila is totally just my headcannon and I'm just projecting, but there's something about Jaysohn being called "the neurodivergent one" and people don't notice that the very smart girl who takes things very literally could also be neurodivergent...
