cohost dot org is a new website
cohost is a lot like tumblr. you can have a blog, you can reblog things.
cohost is also a lot NOT like tumblr. it's explicitly anti-algorithm, no ads, and extremely transparent.
Tumblr media
it's made by some friends of mine, and you can make an account now. I think it's a really cool project and I'm going to be on there more and more, i think.
it's totally free, and the culture is still starting, but there is some real top-tier Posting going on. you can check out the staff account for more information, but i really think this is gonna Be Something.
Tumblr media
if we're mutuals feel free to reach out for an invite code, i have a few more saved up. (update signup is totally open now) the site's good, i love it, and i'm way less worried about some of the dumb shit that circles around sites like tumblr or twitter. for one thing, they're actively doing all these things:
Tumblr media
i trust these folks, and i think the site's good. i think more people should be on it, and if you're used to tumblr you'll probably like cohost. EDIT 2023.11.11: since people have asked, the way that cohost makes money is primarily through user subscriptions, in a service called Cohost Plus, which you can buy for $5/mo. it gives you a couple cool perks (custom emojis, some goofy UI options), but primarily it's to signal that this sort of site is something that people want to support, and to help pay the people who make it. It's ran by a cooperative called ASSC.

So, I found a b2 supplement I can take and not react to the fillers (Thorne brand, not sponsored), and after taking it for a month, I've noticed it does seem to have an effect on my migraines.
I'm still getting 1-3 migraines a month when my hormones fluctuate, but I have noticed a significant reduction in pain since I started taking the b2. Brain fog is still a nightmare (see Migraine Daddy post 😂), but the pain is more of a normal headache and not dropping me to the floor.
Supposedly you don't see significant results until you've been on a high dose of b2 for about 3-4 months (my neurologist suggested 400mg), but given that I am actually deficient in b2 thanks to my MCAS, fixing the deficiency seems to be helping by itself.
So who knows, maybe in a few months, I'll see better results.
I know I really need to be taking a methylated B complex at this point, but they all have biotin in them, and any increase in my biotin intake just makes me sick as a dog. I thought at first it was because it was a histamine liberator, but so is methyl folate/folic acid and I've been able to tolerate that okay. Idk. Bodies are weird.

Honestly, if you’re ever feeling like you’re a little too easy gotten by all that conspiracy snake oil fake cure new age to fascism pipeline
I’d really suggest Sawbones
Yes, it’s more focused on medicine than on like culture and religion and spirituality but that might be exactly the kind of thing you need. Learning about how people in the past have been misguided by testimonials and misinformation and authority is a good thing in general, because understanding that can give you defenses in real life
And the fact that the instances provided are about things that are provable, chemical, medical, scientific, shows how easy is is to believe things that are false.
Also it’s just a good podcast with funny jokes and well researched information.
Just hearing about how many times in history, over and over, people have bought into things that range from useless to actively harmful is- well to me it’s a reminder to stay vigilant, but to others it might be a comfort. Knowing that it’s easy to fall for stuff, that good and intelligent people have fallen for things, knowing you aren’t alone.

Had this idea ages ago but didn't draw it...
Due to recent news, I no longer had an excuse not to do it.

Something I've been recommending a lot to my fellow MCAS + POTS-sufferers at the moment, has been investing in a soup blender.
Apart from beta blockers, the primary treatment for POTS is increasing salt and water. A really good way of combining both and upping your nutritional value is by drinking things like bone broth or veggie stock.
But if you're like me with a ton of allergies (so you can't buy anything premade🙃) and bone broth raises your histamine, then you're left with the energy sapping task of making your own.
And I don't know about any of you, but when my nervous system is throwing a wobbler, the last thing I am capable of doing is standing up for long periods at a time over a hot stove.
Some people get around this by using a slow cooker, which is great if you can. I personally can't because slow cooking raises the histamine content of food (especially meat) and also, the clue is in the name, it's a slow cooker and sometimes my POTSie, ADHD butt needs food now-ish or as soon as possible and not 8 hours later. Instapots can be good, but they take up a lot of counter space and also I don't know if you've ever tried to release a pressure cooker valve when you can barely stand, but I genuinely think that's the closest I've come to dying and I've experienced both megaloblastic and hemalytic anemia.
Which is why we got a soup blender. They take up less space, are generally easier to clean, and also easier for me, at least, to use. All you need to do is roughly chop your ingredients up, dump them in the jug, add seasoning, fill the jug with water, hit the soup function and then sit your ass down for the next 20 minutes while this magical fucking thing both cooks and blends you some liquidy goodness.
I will say, don't invest in the instapot one. It's not worth the price point, and the motor burned out on mine after about six months. It was also a pain in the ass to clean. (The self clean was more of a "swish water around for 30 seconds" function and I can't tell you how many times I hurt myself trying to get gunk off the bottom.)
The one I currently have is a Ninja HB152 Foodi Heat-iQ Blender, which was a little more expensive, but in my opinion, far superior and better made. It's faster, makes either chunky or smooth soup, really good consistency dips, ice cream and smoothies. I've also used it to make alternative milks like oat milk and it didn't jam the blades.
It also has a great cleaning system that actually takes a full 6 minutes to run and really gets any residue off the base, and it also alerts you to things like the jug or lid not being secure, which is great when I'm brain-fogged and try to blend things without the lid on.
Anyway, this post brought to you not by Ninja but by @mothman-etd making me some leek and potato soup laden with enough salt to make this POTS episode manageable.

Just throwing the info out there. Hope it helps someone.

assigning my favorite music albums to the main cast of "nevermore": part two.
annabel lee — "not to disappear" by daughter.
Tumblr media
probably my favorite album of all time. it's a wonderful exploration of loneliness from many different angles. there's a lot for annabel to relate to. for example, in the song "alone/with you" the heroine sees shadowy figures and feels alone even besides her partner because she's a stranger to herself. and it's really heartbreaking.
prospero — "князь тишины" ("the prince of silence") by nautilus pompilius.
Tumblr media
a golden classic often heard in my dad's car. it's tragic, it's dark, it's gentle. the songs contain a lot of different emotions, but with a feeling of restraint to them, as if they're being suppressed. there's also a song about a doctor (sort of)! I couldn't find the album itself, but here's a playlist with official songs.
ada — "staydom" by stayc.
Tumblr media
I feel like ada has a huge k-pop girlie potential, though she herself probably wouldn't admit it. not sure why, but I wanted to give her something sweet and hopeful to listen to. as someone who, deep down, just wants to be loved, she could enjoy a song like "love fool" or "so what".
montresor — "гроздья гнева" ("the grapes of wrath") by shortparis.
Tumblr media
the whole album is loud, energetic, fun in a dark kind of way. montresor would bob his head to it for sure. like, "the boss's husband" is just him: foul language, mommy issues, dishonesty, all that good stuff. but with such a catchy tune!
will — "heaven knows I'm miserable now" by the smiths (single).
Tumblr media
it's a song about feeling isolated and being a witness of someone else's life. "in my life, why do I give valuable time to people who don't care if I live or die?" — this refrain is just william, no one can change my mind.
it was unfair to give will just a one-song album, so I'm adding "currents" by tame impala. I think it fits his vibe pretty well.
note: I wasn't aiming for 100% accuracy, just choosing the albums that I actually love, listen to (no skips!) and heavily recommend. it's all purely based on vibes that I get from the characters.

Hello! First off, your comics are so FUDGING cute. And now, my question~
What kind of tools do you preferably use while drawing? (Pencil brand, sketch book brand, etc etc)
Thank you!! ❤❤❤ I typically order the same sketchbook off amazon (I'm from germany so idk if you'd be able to get the same one) It has thicker paper which makes it a lot nicer to draw on it and it just doesn't crumble up as easily!
Tumblr media
For sketching I use mechanical pencils, mostly by faber castell and pentel Pentel colored mines in blue and red (I like to do rough sketches with those) and normal faber castell mine for normal sketches. I also like to use the pentel Orenz which is holds a VERY fine mine (0.2mm) You can see some of the red lines in this sketch:

My go to products when it comes to pencils is usually Faber Castell, I grew up using the brand and I love it to this day!
