More random thoughts, this time brought on by me working more on the Baldur's Gate timeskip campaign nonsense.

There's a lot of worldbuilding I'm doing, since it's set in Industrial Revolution era Faerun and, well, Baldur's Gate specifically, and Astarion is centered as the main NPC players would get their main quest and such from, meaning he needs a decent bit of worldbuilding, too. In that, part of me went "Hmm, am I making him too scheming and smart?"

And the conclusion I came to: No, I'm not. I like to headcanon that Astarion aged like... 700 (approx) would, at that point, have to have some fuckin wrinkles in that smooth ass brain of his.

Not to mention honestly, I see Spawnstarion being infinitely smarter and more dangerous than Ascendstarion.

Sure, Ascended he has raw power and a leg up physically (huzzah no more vampire drawbacks), but with going full evil, I imagine he's... honestly not much different than a vampire El Muskrat. I know, I just ruined a lot of fantasies by saying that. But seriously, he's just an abusive actual dumbass with way too much power, probably a sensitive ego, and will most likely want to be surrounded by yes-men. I mean, hell, this is an idiot cartoon villain that thinks he's so untouchable he can drink the liquid magma that is Karlach's blood.

Spawn Astarion? Seems to learn and grow, and has enough sense to listen to outside counsel, including when he doesn't necessarily agree with said advice. Hell, he's learned first hand that maybe other people are worth listening to, at least sometimes, because he's standing there a free and very alive vampire spawn, which he didn't think was possible prior to meeting Tav. And I like to imagine he keeps the capacity to learn and grow. Not being drunk on power (though probably a little drunk on freedom), and still being very killable would force him to have to learn to be shrewd, cautious, and strategic about everything.

So, yeah, I think I'm okay with my brain going "make that man a slippery businessman with more going on than meets the eye and totally working the turn-of-the-century system to his benefit." (Example: in this world I'm writing, he uses his newfound wealth via a different accidentally lucrative partnership to fund the building of a Temple of Sune in Baldur's Gate -- not because he gives a fuck about Sune, but because it's good PR for his image as a "totally just a slightly eccentric and rich high elf noble" and his perfume business...)

I'd like to think Alium would develop religions/other cultural reasons to wear head-coverings. I thought it would be nice to give her one, partially because one friend who read it said she reminded him of a mutual hijabi friend, partially because I thought it would be nice to have a character with a head-covering. So it may be Islamic-adjacent even if technically not the same religion. I will certainly base the religion on Islam, and the basic culture of Sector Three is Arab-inspired in general.

Alii religion is something that I've not put as much thought into since most of my world building has been "I'll make it up as it becomes relevant." Religion has not been relevant yet, but it will be something I will work on in my current world building focused work, after I figure out the powers in detail, since that will be the foundation and focus of the cultures.

I believe when Carmen's head-covering is mentioned it's called a hijab by those who grew up in Ceteri, since that's what they would know it as. Like I don't think Carla, George, Jedi, or Carmen herself call it that. If I do it's a placeholder. Hijab etymologically means "to veil" so I'll probably find similar morphemes in Arabic or another language native to the region that either contain similar or the same meaning.

I am excited to get into researching Islam and cross-referencing it with the Alium baseline I have to create a fictional religion, since it will affect Carmen's character. I love writing her, and I'm excited to learn more about her in that process.

But first, I'm doing the foundational work for the powers. Kinda wish I did this much earlier but oh, well. I'm doing it now, and that's what matters.

history of the british monarchy lol! ok so i may not currently like the monarchy, but i am a MASSIVE fan of the history of the royals lol... especially the tudor era! a lot of my talk would be me trying to remember the order of the monarchs from william the conqueror until now (which would mean me singing the horrible histories monarchy song lol sorry not sorry)... i would also spend the time being like 'yeh so this one had allegations of being gay, as did this one, and THIS one had several male favourites who he was definitely in relationships with' lol

kpop lol... not really sure what i would talk about? maybe specific groups (exo would be in contention for sure, they have a very interesting history tbh), or just the wider cultural phenomenon and history of kpop? or just like talk about niche kpop groups that basically no one remembers pfft (like that group that jackie chan made lol! already mentioned it on my kpop haveyouheard blog but people in the notes were like 'wait jackie chan did WHAT???' lol...) like i definitely don't know a lot of stuff, but i know more than the average joe so like... it might be fun idk??

queer films lol... i'd also say films in general, but i definitely feel like i have more niche and interesting knowledge specifically of queer films so.... i DEFINITELY could talk for well over an hour about that lol! this would also definitely include me complaining about films like call me by your name and blue is the warmest colour lol... (i actually was speaking to myself the other day about both films and how perceptions of both have changed SO much over the years since they came out lol...) but i'd mainly want to talk about the amazing queer films i've watched over the years!!... i'd also throw in some talk of asian queer media here since i've been watching it for literally 6 or so years at this point lol...

back to history, this time ancient egypt! returning to my childhood roots with this one lol i know a lot of random things about ancient egypt that i could potentially string into an hour long talk? actually recently went to an exhibition at the place where they film downton abbey (it's not called that btw lol) where it had a whole thing about the discovery of tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 which had a lot of interesting info tbh! dont come to this talk if u dont want to hear me talk about all the incest that went on in ancient egyptian royalty pfft... (like...historians believe that tut's mother was also his aunt, and his sister was also his wife, which kinda explain why none of their children survived... royals of all eras really were like 'we have to intermarry to keep the bloodline pure' and it's like (breaking bad bald guy meme) jesse NO that's what's KILLING you!!!!!!!!!!)

for most of these i'd basically say something and then immediately be like 'don't fact check me on that though' because chances are i remembered the thing wrong pfft...

I disappear for a while then I come back to cry about being kink shamed, thinking I was over it and now feeling like I’m right back where I started again and haven’t written or worked on anything in months 😭

I’ve been posting this multi chapter fic in a fairly smallish niche fandom, especially for sickfic content. The thing is, I was getting pretty good engagement with kudos and some amazing comments etc. It’s been extremely obvious right from the start that it’s a blatant sickfic, the tags make it extremely clear, tagged as emeto etc etc

This is the second chapter that’s had actual emeto in, and I feel like it’s slightly more descriptive and graphic in this chapter than the last. As in, there is three lots of puking, it’s kinda centric to the chapter.

I posted this chapter, and suddenly… nothing. Barely any kudos and like two comments that were kinda weird and I didn’t know whether were good or not.

It sounds ungrateful but it’s not that at all. I’m not doing this for attention or “likes” but it’s kinda got in my head and made me really insecure, like the reason that it’s suddenly all gone really quiet is because my readers and people in this fandom are suddenly weirded out and grossed out by my writing. I know there have been a couple people who explicitly said they loved my fic as they are sick *this character* enjoyers and there’s absolutely no sickfic content in the fandom at all apart from me. But like, have I gone too far? Do people think it’s too much, too gross, have I weirded out the fandom?

I know it shouldn’t matter. If I was writing really graphic and pornographic smut, that wouldn’t matter. It doesn’t appeal to everyone, I personally don’t read it but like, writing that kinda thing really graphically is very accepted and normal. My emeto wasn’t even that graphic, just like, a standard sickfic amount. I’d like to think that the descriptions of vomiting weren’t like too explicit to be intolerable to someone who wasn’t explicitly into that. I do try and make my fics enjoyable as a whole and not just like pure emeto porn.

The insecurity of thinking that people now don’t like my fic anymore because it got too emeto and too graphic sickfic for them is just triggering a whole load of trauma and shame from the kink shaming I went through and I just can’t write anything and tbh I don’t want to update the fic anymore either even though I finished writing it months ago

Anyway this is just kinda a ramble but in case anyone is interested in reading it whether you’re in the fandom or not, I’ll link it anyway. I’m really not fishing for compliments, it just makes me sad that I’ve scared people away with too much emeto lol and they think I’m a psycho or something, but emeto is all I wanna write 😭

but ya!! i mentioned how it started off as a crack au with casino quartet and uh. (tries to think of a way to describe them without going into the main tags <-scared) let’s ramble about them! ^_^

basically so uh. for a while i thought one of the funniest things ever was to make a mcyt au from the music video lore of this one k-pop group because the idea was so absurd and it was niche enough that people Won’t Know/clock it right away and the idea of being “SURPRISE IT WAS KPOP” was something REALLY funny because i am messed up and evil in the head!!!

but. if i’m being honest. their my aesthetic low key slapped for no reason so as i started thinking about it and whatnot the au just became. its own thing. like you can sorta see bits of The Original Intent in there but its so far removed its basically its own thing so. (if you figured out who i assigned who to who no you dont /silly)

but uh. the lore is Very long and casino quartet only really work with one of the subgroups of the k-pop group so i’m just gonna focus on that one ^_^

basically, their subgroup’s lore is a vaguely based off of a few anesthetic of the bible, more specifically the story of adam and eve and angels escaping eden or whatnot. there’s 4 members, one representing adam, one representing eve, and the last 2 representing angels, with one following adam and eve to escape eden and the one who’s left behind eventually becoming fallen and finding self worth in herself

in the main music video where their Lore is shown, the other angels literally leave one of them out of the loop as they plan to escape eden together—just without the last angel :( and there’s a really sad shot of her looking at all of her friends running out of eden without her. then i another music video we get the other angel looking very sad that she left her friend behind but adam and eve r so smitten with each other that they dont care <- no way it’s clownzy and ash in team chaos i mean WHATTTTT ^_^

anyways. as u can tell. i mostly went “omg casino quartet” at the team chaos parallels and the Betrayal and Making Things Right themes and since their subgroup was Inspired by bible aesthetics, the idea for red being a fallen angel kinda Stuck with me and i (eventually) brainrotted the idea so hard and connecting to more things about fallen angels and whatnot i came across to the point it became its Own Thing. but tbh i really like the idea of ash trying to get red back and whatnot and him being a Fallen Angel as well stuck A Lot

and Also i like the idea of clown and branzy being the more modern interpretations of adam and eve. like someone who’s smitten in love and being willing to bite the apple and fall into sin for that. they’re so ill about each other it could go either way its them fr!!!!

but yeah. thumbs up . thats the Lore reason to why fallen angel ash and red became a thing >_< clownzy is a secret 3rd thing to me when it comes to the fallen angel concept but !!! its awesome maybe ill redraw the mv scenes with them one day….

i'm kinda embarrassed about the answer to this question...

so uh... a few days back i was playing with omorashi over ask tasks. i've got a mutual that's into it (hiiii <3) and like, i'm conflicted, but i'm not not into it, but also it's kinda squicky for people which makes me hesitate to talk about it. i'mma ramble about it a little because eventually i gotta figure it out, but yeah i probably do have that kink. i'm just gonna write and be open and honest about it, if you don't wanna read about this subject just skip over this post and block the omorashi tag

like, while we were playing with it the control aspect of having to ask permission to go to the bathroom was fun. i like being controlled and asking permission to go do something as i got more and more desperate to go was very fun. the fear i might have an accident was very exciting, and finally getting to go felt very good. it felt good enough that i added an ask task that plays with the concept of bladder control too

i'm probably into that control aspect of it, at the very least... but... i have been experimenting with thinking about what it might be like if i were to have an accident? how that would feel, and how i'd probably enjoy being degraded by making me desperate to go and not letting me go to the toilet to relieve myself. that's not so much about wetting myself being hot as the context around it?

it is something that's a bit more niche though, and like, ends up on a lot of people's limits lists. it's not the same as watersports though, and like, watersports kinks don't really do much for me. i peed on someone who was into it a long time ago and... i wasn't really into it, and i've never tried the opposite. all i can really admit is a curiosity and an absence of a hard limit in that regard. i get the feeling it's not something that's a kink of mine, but in the right context it might be hot.

i've got way more kinks that are way louder though. my draw here is way more about the control and context. i'm still exploring what it is that makes it tick for me and what others see in it too, since it is a new kink for me.

Hi! I don’t know if this should be a question or if I just wanted someone to listen, but I appreciate you having asks open.

So I have really bad anxiety, both general and social anxiety. It’s usually manageable in real life because I have really good friends that are emotionally supportive. But this situation feels kinda stupid to bother my friends about and I was embarrassed. They also don’t use Tumblr, so it would’ve been harder to explain.

I started a Tumblr blog a couple of days ago. It was just a small thing to write about characters for games and shows I was into. I made a pinned intro including groups I didn’t want to interact with the blog. I think the exact wording included “racists, homophobes, transphobes, furries - basically anyone with anything gross / hateful / offensive to say”. I didn’t see a problem with this at the time, however, not too long ago I got an anon ask that read “Seriously? Lumping furries with transphobes and homophobes? What’s wrong with you lmao”

In hindsight, I can totally see their point. I was undermining the severity of other hateful groups because, obviously, furries aren’t anything comparable to those things and have nothing to do with them. Even if I didn’t intend that in anyway, it could still undermine those sensitive topics and offend another group of people that have nothing to do with those things.

However, due to my anxiety, I guess I got triggered and panicked. I deleted my blog not too long after I read the message. I already have a lot going on with tests and stuff and I didn’t think it through. I should’ve apologized and held myself accountable. I would say it was be removing myself from a situation I wasn’t mentally prepared for, but I feel like I just ran away from a situation even though I knew I was in the wrong. I feel guilty.

I feel that my anxiety makes it so I cannot handle an online space. I am a creative, both an artist and writer, so I crave validation for my work from a large amount of people. But if I do so much as make a small mistake or do something unintentionally, I panic and isolate myself again. And then I feel worse because I feel like I’m running away from my problems. It’s like a bad cycle.

I’m sorry if this ask is too long or rambling, but I felt like talking to someone from the same platform would make it a bit easier for them to understand. I’m probably making this a way bigger issue than it is or maybe not. I get so in my head sometimes it’s hard to tell, and I hope that makes sense. I encountered a situation very similar to this on my main blog. I basically posted something very triggering to some people and didn't tag it properly. I added broad mental health related tags instead of more specific tags that would have appealed to a niche group that would have understood what I was talking about without being triggered. Someone submitted an anonymous ask, very kindly brought the inappropriate tagging to my attention. I was wildly embarrassed and wanted to curl up and die. I deleted the post and apologized in response to the ask. This really hurt my feelings and made me feel really stupid. In retrospect, I really appreciate that person pointing out the issue in a respectful manner. It helped me become more aware of how the Tumblr community works and helped me understand that I needed to be conscious of other people's situations. The best thing you can do at this point is to rebuild a blog for your work, and if you aren't sure about something you're posting, ask a friend, or of course, send me a message and I can help. I hope this was helpful and made sense. I am very proud of you for recognizing your mistake and growing from that. Everyone makes mistakes, but not many take the initiative to grow from them. this is so sweet! thank u so much angel, writing is different for everybody but i'm happy to share some of my views and tricks etc! probably going to ramble a lot so i'll add a read more tab ~

every fic needs a beginning middle n an end, so i would plan these before you start writing it so you know where the story is heading and have a clear guideline of what you need to follow

make notes of random plot / sub-plot points you want to include and keep referring to the list when you're writing! this is really helpful for me

not every character needs a trauma or a problematic opinion, tension is great in fics i 100% agree but it needs to be relevant to the overall story telling and shouldn't be random (especially with angst, writing arguments is great but make sure the characters will think back to the arguments be it to learn from it or for more tension further down the line etc)

don't get disheartened if somebody doesn't like something you've written - it happens to all of us / take negative feedback with a pinch of salt! feedback is feedback and it can be a wonderful tool to improve ur skills but don't get hung up on people's opinions too much

write what YOU want to write. as long as ur passionate about the characters / storylines etc the right demographic will find u eventually

don't fixate on notes / lack of feedback. it can be disheartening but i assure you a persons number of notes / followers do not directly influence their talent. some of the best writers on here have less than 500 followers and get barely any notes (which is sad, i agree :( but try not to let numbers affect how you feel about your work) also block hate anons because fuck them and their venom, not worth your time at all!

don't compare yourself to others. everybody starts somewhere!!!

write things you're passionate about, things you have experience in or things you want to spread awareness about

if you're going to be a ff writer even though readers *know* who you're writing about don't skip over their physical descriptions as they're still an important part of ff!

when it comes to plot planning try and think of niche or never seen before plots! we all love a good friends to lovers trope but make yours stand out. everybody is writing something similar these days in terms of tropes and au's so add a sprinkle of ***flavour*** to yours that makes it stand out and more memorable to readers

but MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! remember that your blog is yours and you can do and you can write whatever you want to! the world is yours so show it what you've got. for me writing ff is a coping mechanism and also high-key a form of escapism, if you get stressed writing then don't force it honey. you should enjoy writing and if there's ever a point where you don't then you need to take a break. this is ur blog. these are ur fics. don't let anybody tell u any differently.

In thinking about the regional headcanons I want for the legendverse, my thoughts go to both Silph Co. And the Devon corporation.

They are both similar in being manufacturers in things relate Pokemon and pokemon training. Sipho Co. seems to have been the one that really industrialized the base PokeBalls variants: PokeBalls, great balls, ultra balls and the master ball. Where as the Devon corporation focuses more on PokeBalls with specific niches, such as the luxury ball, timer ball and repeat ball. Given this, I'm assuming they are the ones that invented the quick ball, since that ball also has a specific niche.

Some other things I find interesting:

The Devon corporation used to be a small mining company, essentially. Mining and smelting iron specifically. However, I find it interesting how in Hoenn there isn't much to indicate such. Of course, this was a long time ago, but given there interests in reviving fossils, I can't imagine they would stop( especially in comparison to the known mining companies in Sinnoh, Unova and Galar) It would have been interesting to see if this was a talking point for either Archie or Maxie when it came to their goals ( Archie specifically, but I can see Oras Archie potentially being for or against the notion).

Speaking of fossils, it's unknown if the Devon Corp is tied to the fossil facilities in Sinnoh and Cinnabar Island. In my au, the events of Kanto and Hoenn take place around the same time. Because of this, I can make up some things. For one, we know that DC ( Devon corporation) is younger than Silph Co. Well, more like we can assume as such based on how it's said in Bulbapedia " It was a small company that mined rocks and smelted iron sand to iron many years ago, but has grown by leaps and bounds, and even rivals Kanto's Silph Co" . However, this doesn't mean that DC is new new. So maybe those fossil facilities in Kanto and Sinnoh are related to DC in some way?

Going to Silph Co., I find it interesting that of the two companies, Silph Co. seems to be mentioned the most. I could be wrong, and even if I wasn't, this could easily be chalked up to Kanto propaganda, but still. I have most likely missed something here, so if anyone knows any other references to Devin Corp ( that isn't super obvious I guess? Like in Galar Silph Co is a sponsor, which is something you don't notice at first unless you look for it), please share!

I was going to touch on the master ball here, but I feel like that's for a separate post. Might not be a long post, but PokeBalls in universe are pretty weird ngl. Also, like, that one Tumblr post breaking down PokeBalls in it's entirety kinda does that 10x better than I could lol. I wish I had that post so I can link it but alas, I do not. So that's it then! Hdhfjg so I saw someone else posting about their beggar headcanons and that maybe kinda inspired me a bit to post about some of my headcanons so, woe beggars be upon ye, the tboi tag is getting a double dose of beggar hcs today

So! When it comes to like. My general tboi headcanons yall know I like to hc monsters as genuine living creatures and not mindless supernatural entities, hence some of the more animalistic traits I give them. The same goes for beggars and bums! The basement’s beggar population consists of the coin beggar, it’s two subspecies, bomb and charge beggars, the reanimated corpses of any of those 3 (key and rotten beggars,) and one entirely unrelated species, the demon beggar.

Beggars are small and adaptable creatures, being able to survive in every single lair of the basement in some way or another. The diet of the coin, rotten and charge beggar does in fact mainly consist of coins, hence why they take coins. Meanwhile, bomb and key beggars just like hoarding bombs and keys. Demon beggars eat red hearts.

Because all of these are a bit difficult to get down in the basement, they’ll trade and barter and bribe other creatures in order to get what they need and want. This doesn’t always end well, though- a bomb can easily take out a slow-moving beggar. Not to mention that coin-eating beggar species are under a lot of pressure from a much larger, stronger and closely related species, the Bumbo.

Bumbos are not quite beggars, and although closely related to the basement’s beggar species, they’re much different from them. Bumbos are large, powerful, and somewhat aggressive creatures, reaching immense strength and massive sizes if there’s a stable enough source of food- mainly coins. However, sadly, Bumbos are getting outcompeted by their smaller, more adaptable relatives...

Similarly, demon beggars are not a traditional species of beggar. They’re not even related to beggars and bumbos! They’re demons- an entirely different side of the evolutionary tree. Demon beggars have convergently evolved in order to fill a niche similar to other beggar species, although they take advantage of an untapped food source- red hearts. Demon beggars, in fact, are neotenic, similarly to axolotls. Their short, pudgy bodies, lack of most limbs such as hindlegs and wings, big eyes, and small horns make the little guys not only resemble traditional beggar species, but also... infant demons. They’re using their cuteness to their advantage, to swindle monsters and humans alike out of their red hearts, and to avoid predation from other species of demons. After all, no demon would want to eat a widdle baby demon, or something resembling one.

Hey I just read the tags you left on that last reblog and it broke my heart. I'm so sorry people are being nasty to you over TDC. I just wanted to say I've always loved your TDC art, especially your OkLach stuff and your interpretation of urSan.

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much that means to me, you're one of my favorite artists, and you really encourage me to try and be better with my own art. You're really inspiring both artistically and as a person. I wish more people in this fandom were like you. I put that stuff in the tags because I didn't want to make a scene or bother anybody, but I needed to vent a little about being harassed by people. It's in the past now, but it really caused me to hate myself and the fandom too. It made me super depressed and made me feel like the scum of the earth. Because I thought I was doing something wrong. I told some close friends about it and they helped me out, reassuring me. But it still hurts to think about. I might have to take a short break from TDC because of how people are acting right now, but know that I've appreciated this place for a very long time and I will always treasure the pleasant memories I made here. Here are the Gross Anons under the cut for proof. TW: They talk about lots of sensitive topics in a really disgusting way. Such as Miscarriage, Child death, disability and political and religious stuff. If any of that stuff bothers you, don't read under the cut. I don't like reposting these asks, but they did happen and they really disturb and gross me out. I still get physically ill looking at them. Read at your own risk.

I am gonna talk a little bit about stuff for context, but also because explaining things helps me calm down. In SkekAth's story, miscarriage is an element in it, but only because it's an issue that's incredibly important and personal to me. It's a tragedy, and I treat it as such in universe. That incident has lasting scars, and effects certain parts of Ath's life when he's very little. But it's also an explanation as to why there aren't any other skeklings around because it's incredibly hard for a skeksis to even have offspring at all. That's actually a canon thing. I also tag any and everything that has to do with that subject, so if people are uncomfortable with that topic, they don't have to see that darker part of things. Also, Ironic that they accuse me of being insensitive while sending me an ask about freaking EPOXY RESIN. These were all sent very quickly in-between each other so it's likely that they were the same person. It's just disgusting and ironic that I'm being called insensitive when they have the gall to say something so awful. Also those assumptions about me solely based on me being openly Christian were incredibly hurtful and stereotypical. You can't just say that to someone it's just awful. Also, Straight pride? Are you kidding me? Also, the "Undertale" one is in reference to OkLach. I find this one very hard to believe because TDC is a pretty niche community, and I've only made a little bit of undertale art recently. So even if they did I find it hard for them to look at my other stuff and go "Ah yes this is problematic." They accuse me of being a proshipper because I like OkLach. ...Okay? I consider myself anti-proship, but I mostly just keep to myself. Back to shipping though, That makes literally no sense. They're both 1000 years old, they aren't related and the most toxic thing they've ever done to each other is bicker like an old married couple. They think that it's funny because in the show they laugh about it together, and that's kinda just how they are. Heck, they debatably have one of the healthiest relationships out of the castle skeksis. Also, for the villian thing, I have literal long lore posts talking about them being evil warlords. They're awful and I'm NEVER gonna excuse their actions. They're bad guys, but I also make silly jokes from time to time. It's not that deep. Also, speaking as an UT veteran, that fandom has MUCH worse ships and proshipping problems so if you're actually trying to fight against that stuff anon, go do it in the UT fandom. I would really appreciate it since I hate it too. Sorry if I sounded a little upset or angry here, It's just a lot to take in, and I've kinda been repressing a lot of this for a while now. I've been working on this thing on and off for a year and a half now, it lives rent free in my head every day and has been editted, restructured, and rewritten a lot. I've been very apprehensive about sharing it. ...To be honest, I still am! It's a chaotic story where I just allowed myself to write the most self-indulgent thing I could muster. This entire plot is an amalmagation of random things and ideas I like. It feels like a niche concept that is very messy and ???¿¿¿¿??? why did I make this

But, I guess that also makes it a very "me" story, so having fun with it and writing something that just brought me joy is what matters most, ultimately.

I'm very thankful to everyone who has read the outline and concept for it or just listened to me ramble about the incoherent plot and characters or cheering me on when I've been kinda anxious about it— it's thanks to that support despite this being such a specific and ¿¿¿ idea that I've found the courage to actually share it. I'm very grateful and I hope you guys can enjoy something in it o)-(

So, about the fic,

It's a story about Hakuba! I think we are all well aware that jokes about his long absences and infrequent appearances are very commonplace (where in the world is hakuba saguru??? TT) and it unfortunately leads to him being forgotten and overlooked often. The initial concept that inspired this fic was "Hey, what if Hakuba stopped showing up for real?" and explore the implications this would have on the MK storyline (and Kaito, by extension). I wanted to make a plot where he was allowed to be the protagonist of his own story, highlight his worth as a detective, his role in the main narrative, and the depth of his relationship with Kaito. It's a Hakuba Saguru Appreciation fic, first and foremost!

So, the romance itself is very slow burn. There is a lot of plot, because I have a lot of fun with ridiculous, contrived stories haha. It takes a while for the story to be fully set up, and Kaito doesn't make a proper, official appearance until the end of Chapter 2.

Chapter 1 is rather lengthy and sets the context and plot from Hakuba's POV, Chapter 2 focuses on establishing where his relationship with Kaito (as well as Aoko and Akako) stands at the moment, and Chapter 3 onward starts seeing the first proper developments in the relationship.

It's a bit rocky at first and they have a lot of ups and downs but I promise they work it out (I promise!!! I swear!!!) I tried my best to maintain a balance between the fluffy and angsty moments, but I have to admit it's quite dramatic at parts lol I enjoy stupid, trashy drama a lot sometimes— this is the reason I'm calling it a bad telenovela.

Despite the fact that this is very plotty, their feelings for each other are the guiding force behind the storyline, and their relationship does take center stage later on. The romance is in no way secondary, it just takes a long while to fully develop. They most definitely get a happy ending, but you can expect this to be 95% pining.

The story starts out some years after the current events in the MK manga. Pandora hasn't been found yet, and KID is still active. On the other hand, the DC canon is used very loosely; the conflict has long since been resolved. The BO was taken down years before the start of this story.

The two plots aren't too deeply intertwined here, they just intercept at parts. References to DC events appear here and there and some elements and character interactions overlap, but they tend to be minor for the most part. This is primarily a MK story and I wasn't too worried about completely integrating both plotlines (or staying 100% accurate to the DC plot, for that matter).

Of course, because this is MK-centric, Aoko and Akako are involved with the overarching story and have major roles to play.

In terms of DC characters, Masumi, Shiho, Heiji and Shinichi play semi-prominent roles in the story. I've tagged Masumi from the getgo because she appears in the first chapter, but I'll add the others when I get to the little arcs they show up in. Save for some specific contributions they have, they aren't too deeply involved with the overall plot progression, but the interactions Hakuba has with them are important for his character development and his better understanding of his relationship with Kaito. Basically each of these characters gets some sort of little story arc in which they interact with/help Hakuba in some way. I arbitrarily chose who I wanted him to interact with, lol.

Speaking of arbitrary decisions— Miss Masumi!!!! She's the first character that shows up in this and interacts with Hakuba. I understand this is probably a strange choice. Because I really wanted to flesh out Hakuba's detective methods and life in London a little more, I decided to use the very what if headcanon of Hakuba's maternal family and the Sera family being acquainted with each other. Like I said before, I didn't really want to connect DC and MK plots thoroughly, so the Akai family plotline isn't at all relevant here beyond a couple of passing mentions. I was mostly interested in Hakuba having an MI6 connection without the need of using another OC and I just wanted to imagine what a hypothetical dynamic between him and Masumi would be like.

And then, OCs. There's a couple of OCs with pretty major roles here as well. Really major— probably in equal measure to Aoko and Akako. I apologise in advance! I really needed them to properly build the detective/mystery aspect of the plot, and the more I wrote, the more they became involved with the story and relationship progression TT I really enjoyed writing them a lot, and I'm satisfied with how they turned out here. I understand OCs with prominent roles aren't everyone's cup of tea, though. Even though I enjoyed writing them, I'm a little self-conscious about how relevant they ended up being when they were originally just going to be there as a plot device to kickstart things ;;; Hopefully someone can find enjoyment in them nonetheless. They are most heavily involved with the story after the midpoint, but they appear all throughout.

I'm really nervous about the choices to have Masumi and major OCs in this story...I understand it is likely these things will make this story a little too niche. But!!!!!!!!! Again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having fun with it is what matters most Raffles!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get that through your thick skull!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, please expect the most convoluted explanation to Pandora. There is a lot of made up lore I had a blast writing but it's all probably needlessly complicated.

In summary, it's a detective story starring Hakuba that somehow ended up reading like a dramatic post-breakup/getting back together soap opera.

A significant portion of this has been prewritten, so my (ideal) plan is to have weekly or biweekly updates (but hmmmm let's see how long that lasts until I decide to scrap and rewrite everything out of embarrassment— this is very likely, I second-guess myself a lot)

I keep dragging it through the mud, but I've actually had a blast writing it, even though there's A Lot going on and I'm not very confident in it being decent enough to share.

With all that, I hope someone else can maybe find some enjoyment reading it.

currently 17, will probably add no 18 tonight. there’s also a bunch only published on ff.net (from when i wasn’t on AO3 yet) and yet another motherload of self-indulgent shit rotting on my hard drive.

80781 words, about 60k of that from this year alone. i took a major break from writing 2010ish and really just got back into it during quarantine last year.

YES, i try to respond to all comments. sometimes RL gets in the way but as a rule i try to always respond. i love getting comments so i feel like appreciating the time the commenter took to bring me this joy. ♥️

boy, this is a hard one. I’m not all that good with writing angst but i guess if I had to pick something i’d say don’t give up now (there’s already so much at stake), mostly because of the character’s frame of mind in general and the impending threat of invading a foreign country to overthrow a dictator the next day while being mentally wrecked.

7 ) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

i’m not against it but i’ve never actually done it.

not that I recall. but i guess it wouldn’t be the worst thing, i struggle way more with getting no feedback at all.

do i? DO I? yeah, i do. usually the kind the story requires which can range from soft to awkward to plain filthy. also whatever kind the kinky anons drop in my inbox, i’m trying to keep an open mind.

not that i’m aware of. I don’t really operate in the super popular corners of the fandoms i’m in so i don’t think anyone feels the need to. it’d be pretty obvious to all the 10-20 people who are into that shit anyway lol

again, not really running in the popular corners of fandom (rare pairs ftw) so imma say no. I could probably translate them myself but writing in my first language is fuckin awkward so no thank you.

No, I’m a pretty solitary writer. I do love to come play in other writer’s ‘verses though if they don’t mind. i have written a few things in @vintagedean ‘s married!vibes for example (thanks for letting me play, dude!)

jeez, i don’t know. i’ve never really stuck with just one fandom, i’m a notorious multi-fandom multi-shipper. i’m the kind of person who watches eps of 4 different shows in one day and yells at the tv about all of them.

14 ) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

we make a long way from easy lovin‘ look good, baby. i was honestly so invested in this project but then they completely torpedoed this pairing in canon in the worst possible way and i kinda lost the drive to keep writing. i have posted it to my graveyard collection of unfinished stuff for now but i don’t think i will finish it, sadly.

15 ) What are your writing strengths?

creating emotions, hitting you in the feels, or so I’ve been told. i like to think that (given that English is not my first language) just reaching the kind of level i’m at now can be considered a strength.

16 ) What are your writing weaknesses?

run-on sentences, endless run-on sentences. they serve a purpose SOMETIMES but mostly it’s just me and my rambly writing style. and repetition. i have actually started searching my writing docs for specific phrases while editing to catch most of them and rephrase. not being able to include just a bit of angst without it turning into an existential crisis for the character and me. and the worst thing I keep doing that i’m not able to stop is writing shit out of order. i start with the beginning, then some idea for the middle pops up, then I write the end and then I have to somehow weave it all together, it’s so inconvenient and annoying.

17 ) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

i speak a few languages (or you know, at least can understand/write/read them) so as long as i’m sure that it’s correct and it fits the story, I’m all for it!! language kink ftw.

18 ) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

it was either music or hockey rpf, i’m not even sure anymore at this point, that was like 20 years ago. nothing that ever got published anywhere lol

19 ) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

my name engraved on your heart, hands down. that is my beloved, my baby, the project nearest and dearest to my heart. i can actually read this and enjoy it without nitpicking my own writing at every turn and i’m just so happy with the overall vibe of it. it’s like a niche in a niche of a fandom thing though, so i get that it doesn’t resonate as strongly with others as it does with me but it is my favorite of favorites.

honorable mention to the house don’t fall (when the bones are good), though, because it’s what got me back into writing and it was my biggest (published) project and that fix-it needed to be written.
