Back in November of 2020, I tried explaining to my mother what was happening within the Supernatural fandom, which she understood none of. I told her about it so often that whenever I'd go "oh god not again" near her, she'd say "what language did they go canon in this time?"

Jump forward to now, November 3rd 2023, and I receive these texts from my mother:

2a. Waist up of Dean from Cas's POV, grinning with genuine joy as he reaches both arms behind himself to tuck his gun away. He says, "Castiel, right!! You're my best friend!!" 2b. Reverse shot of Cas as Dean darts forward and throws his arms around his neck in a tight hug. Dean exclaims, "Hi, dude!" Cas's arms fly up in surprise, eyes shocked wide and cheeks flushed red as his chin is tucked into Dean's shoulder. 2c. Zoom out slightly. Blushing and smiling shyly, Cas rests his hands on Dean's back and says "Um...you're my best friend too, Dean..." Dean replies, "Haha, sweet." 2d. Zoom out to knees-up. Dean breaks the hug and leans back, holding Cas at arms length by the shoulders with a grin. His gun is now visible, stuffed barrel-down into the back of his jeans. Dean says, "Dude, you smell like ozone." Cas, arms now hanging straight at his sides and still a bit red in the face, furrows his brow and replies "Um...thank you? It's the ozone." Dean: "Ohhh..." Cas: "Dean...did you remember to put the safety on?" Dean: "The what?" /End ID

November 3-4, 2023 - The internet can't wait.

Destiel trends as the internet braces itself for the next November 5th. As in the previous years, the trend began before the actual anniversary [x] [x], which may be a futile attempt at softening the impact. But don't be fooled - no matter how much we prepare, it's not gonna get any easier.

3rd anniversary of canon destiel

i think the real reason november 5th has been so much more “intense” (for lack of a better word) is because this year has been so incredibly GAY. like. think about it. how many massive projects in media this year (that are mostly very popular on tumblr) have been queer. just to name a few in the last couple months, good omens season 2, OFMD2, loki season 2, heartstopper season 2, red white and royal blue movie, the list goes on.

2023 has just been the year of the gays, so of course destiel shippers on tumblr dot com are thriving.

ID: Dean, Castiel, Jack, Sam, and Eileen standing in a line against a damask-papered wall in the stylings of one of those haunted house photos, reacting to a scare offscreen. Dean is hunched over at the back of the line and screaming open-mouthed, both hands gripping onto the back of Cas’s trenchcoat like reigns. Cas has lurched forward, coat stretching out behind him in Dean’s grip, instinctively putting two arms protectively around his son. His right hand is in front of Jack, turning him away from the scare, and the other is cupping the back of their head as if to tuck them under his chin. Cas’s mouth is pressed shut but his eyes are wide and startled. Jack looks surprised and fascinated, the right string of their hoodie falling out of his mouth as he stares at the scare offscreen. They are half turned away from the scare at Cas’s nudging, right hand resting on Sam’s arm in front of them and left holding his left hoodie string in a fist. Sam is screaming open-mouthed, shoulders pulled up to his ears as he straightens to his full height like a startled cat. He is holding onto Eileen in front of him with both arms, clutching his own hand just under her chest and squishing her tightly to him in fright. Eileen, obviously having not heard the audio cue that scared the rest of them, looks confused and a little irritated, hands covering Sam’s over her torso. She is startled only by Sam’s sudden bear hug as his jump launches her own breasts up toward her chin. /end ID

I think actually one of the wildest parts of November 5th 2020 (if any can be narrowed down) was when you would very occasionally see an entirely unrelated post. Like somehow there were some people blogging about just normal shit that night and it was like standing in a costumed rave that was on fire and then just seeing one person completely calm checking emails. And all you could think was How can you not be seeing this???
