Have you ever thought to yourself: Yee howdy, I wish I could know what everyone thinks of my favorite character, and I also wish we could all definitively rank them in popularity based on the whims of the public? Then do I have the thing for you!

Right out the gate, it's time to vote for favorite characters. The votes for favorite NPC (human) and favorite NPC (other) will be running alongside each other, with the vote for NPC (other) starting a little later to make them both finish at the same time and end in an epic dual victory.

I have chosen to split them up because there's a lot of NPC's and we can expedite the process somewhat by having separate tournaments running alongside each other.

Humanoid creatures such as Pandorians residing in the circus will be counted as humans because that's how they choose to present and I will respect that.

Certain conditions apply regarding characters added to SSO just to host races, NPC's that are named but do not take part in quests, and characters from earlier games. these characters will not partake because the list is so. long. already.

Every poll will be accompanied by a picture and a brief description to refresh your memory, so don't worry if you can't remember them just by name! If you have any concerns or can't see your favorite NPC anywhere, send a message or an ask.

The first NPC (human) tournamnet will take place over 3 sessions of 40 posts per week, because it's 120 posts and I don't want to overwhelm you with that many posts. Once we've narrowed it down to 60 favorites it will be split into 2 sessions, and once we've only got 30 contestants left, I'll post them all in one go until a winner is declared. That's also when the NPC (other) polls will be posted.

Some Highschool Montana AU let's go (called Legacy AU or L!*rest of words* for short}

Her and Justin went to the same highschool as the soul riders (and like half the other npcs) in jarleheim

Since L!Montana never moved away from Jorvik or had to semi regularly change schools she was actually able to make some friends. Not much, since she's naturally more of a loner, but there are like 2 or 3

Those friends consist of Justin, Maya and Loretta

Loretta still developed a crush on Justin but not nearly as huge as in the og timeline, this is because literally everyone and their mothers but them could see that dewblossom had a crush on each other since their were 12

There was a period of time where L!Montana was scared that Justin would replace or forget her, since he was more popular than her and, unlike her, didn't struggle with making new friends during their teenage years. Justin was so confused by this because Montana was not just a school friend but his best friend and didn't even realize that she was feeling that way until she noticeably spend less time with him and they had an argument abt it

What lead to the argument was him realizing Montana had spend less and less time with him the past few months and was hanging out with another guy instead. This was also what made Justin realize that he actually had a crush on her because in all his life he had never hated someone so much as that guy and he hadn't even met the poor boy in person. They were abt 16 there

Montana didn't realize how she felt until years later when Justin went with Sabine to the Oil Rig and felt so betrayed and hurt that he'd leave despite her protests

Funfact in this AU Montana, and the others succeeded in rescuing Justin the first time because Katjas mind control wasn't enough to surpress years of friendship and not talked abt crush feelings

In the AU Montana was actually the one who suggested maya start working at moorland stables

Having friends during her teenager years also means she never developed such a big fear of losing people or being afraid of getting close to them to begin with

Moving on to magic stuff, where main Montana is already strong L!Montana is on an whole other level. Discovering her powers earlier meant she had a lot more time to train and develop her skills than main Montana and girl used that time well. If L!Montana and main Montana would fight against each other, same age and no magic corruption, L!Montana would win by a mile

She didn't started doing martial arts until after finding out abt her feelings but her magic control is much better

L!Montana never got a motorcycle license since horses are can get you almost everywhere in Jorvik (she still has a car license to be able to go to Jorvik City easier)

Okay, I went fictional characters with this because I just don't really get obsessed with RL people outside of like a 5 year period between 2005-2010 where I followed select actors around to other shows. Also, there's only three ladies who I can confirm fit both 'obsessed' and 'ever of all time', so I've trudged through my entire childhood for every fictional lady who's helped shape my personality to round out the list.

In Chronological Order (to me not by air date):

Margaret Houlihan (M*A*S*H) -- Oh MASH reruns on the Hallmark channel, my beloved 💚 Now, I'm primarily talking about the juicy middle seasons after Potter took over command and Loretta Swit was able to wrestle some better storylines for Margaret, but there's some gems in the early years too. I've been drawn back to MASH three times as an adult and each time I get sucked deeper and deeper into both the real life history of the Korean War and the fictional character of Margaret. Do I have a thousand and one headcanons for how she handles life after the war? Yes. Am I obsessed with whatever platonic/sexual relationship she's got going on with Hawkeye? Yes. Have I plotted out what her D&D character might look like? YEP! She's a paladin :P I also believe if you examined her character through a queer lens, you'd find a trans man rather than a queer woman, but your mileage may vary.

AndrAIa (ReBoot) -- Yeah, yeah, yeah it's a cartoon, but bb 11 year old me was absolutely OBSESSED with this show, and AndrAIa was a big part of that. Look at her little capital AI in her name! 😭 25 years before corporate greed ruined the acronym, that AI was adorable!! And very clever given that she was an NPC game sprite who decided to leave her game and live as a real sprite. Her whole existence and vibe was very formative for me. I love her.

Harley Davidson Cooper (Guiding Light) -- Yes, her full name is absolutely necessary, even if no one ever used it. So, I was SUUUCH a CBS soap girlie back around 2000-2002, and I've been very nostalgic for it in the last few years. As the World Turns was my primary soap, so I figured one of my regular blorbos like Rose or Katie or Romana would be the one I miss most. But then Harley's actress Beth Ehlers popped up during my Law & Order SVU watch and I LOST MY MIND!!!!! Her face and voice instantly filled my soul with joy! So Harley gets the trophy. Even if she didn't have any stand out storylines during that era (apart from her and Gus being Very Hot), she was always my favorite character from GL.

Piper Halliwell (Charmed, original flavor) -- Technically, I had Turtle Wexler from the book The Westing Game on this list instead because I didn't remember Piper until after I'd drafted all ten slots :S But listen! That's because health problems have made my memory shitty! It is not because Piper doesn't stand up to the test of time! Ugh, I remember the show never treated Piper like she was the fan favorite and I hadn't discovered online TV forums yet so I felt so alone in my love for her :( But being on lesbian millennial Tumblr makes 14 year old me feel SO validated, because Piper is the only Halliwell sister anyone ever talks about on my dash. 💜 Congrats everyone. We were right all along.

Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls) -- Yeeeaaah.. we've hit the Big Three that I alluded to earlier. I was very, very gay for Lorelai (and Lauren Graham) in the latter half of my high school years, and I did not realize that until way later. She taught me how to be quicker with the comebacks and, more importantly, to marry someone who could cook instead of learning how to feed yourself. And I really took that to heart. My spouse is a fantastic cook! :) (Don't get scared for me guys! I do actually know how to cook three (3) entire meals now that I'm in my 30s :P lol)

Rose Tyler/Billie Piper (Doctor Who) -- I will list the actress here, because my love for Rose Tyler is probably split 50/50 between the character herself, and Billie Piper's charisma and hotness. She's gorgeous!!! 😍 That seemingly common question in the mid-2000s of 'Who would you kiss if you were gay?' always left me stumped until New Who aired in the states. Then, I was finally able to answer 'Billie Piper' and actually mean it. Because that's what you were supposed to do with that question, right? Take it seriously and not treat it like hyperbole? #totallystraightbehavior #swearsies Alas, it would take me two more girl crushes and interacting with genuine queer women in a femslash fandom before I recognized my feelings for what they were. But Rose was still a very significant step forward!

Myka Bering (Warehouse 13) -- MY GIRL!!! My Lady of all Ladies. I would die for her. I would kill for her. I would kneel and raise my sword and swear fealty to her. MYKA FUCKING BERING, EVERYONE! 👏👏👏👏 Watching her fall in love with Helena made me realize all my girl crushes were real crushes and that I was bi. Bless her. Bless Joanne Kelly. And bless the incomparable Bering and Wells fandom. *kisses everyone on the mouth, sloppy style*

Erin Gilbert (Ghostbusters 2016) -- Look, I know that I can never get away with pretending that Erin isn't my favorite ghostbuster, but I do usually think about her in the context of her relationships! Like 8 times out of 10, when I'm headcanoning, I'm thinking about her and Abby's relationship. And if I'm not, there's a not-so-small chance I'm thinking about her relationship with Patty instead. (RIP to Holtzy who I virtually never think about outside of the foursome. Her fanbase just ruined it for me :S) But um... yeah, Erin's my favorite. I even have Pokemon parties picked out for them all. And their daemons.

Eve (Lucifer) -- Okay so I know it hasn't even been a full high school (aka 4 years) since I met Eve, so I can't really say she's someone I'll stay obsessed with forever and ever and ever. You probably don't even believe I'm obsessed with her at all given the bulk of my Lucifer talk is about Lucifer/Chloe -- but that's just cause that's where the storyline is! Trust me, Eve is my favorite character, even if she was in the least amount of episodes (RIP me). When she pops up in the background of a Deckerstar fanvid, I'm instantly distracted and have to marathon every Maze/Eve vid in my collection. I decided to use a fandom name in the first time, like, ever, when creating my Lucifer-specific Twitter account and I made it Eve themed. She's my favorite, bestest girl who can do no wrong and -- YES! -- that does include accidentally-definitely-on-purpose starting a demon mutiny that led to newborn Charlie's kidnapping. She had never been dumped before okay? First woman to ever exist and she'd never been dumped. Did you handle your first break-up well? No! I didn't think so :P

Alex Cabot (Law & Order: SVU) -- I've only know Cabot for four months, but if anything happens to her, I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself -- OH WAIT! She already left me. 😭 I am in S17 now, which is like ten seasons past when she went into witness protection and barely ever came back, yet there's not an episode that goes by where I don't think about her. So, I say that counts as longevity and am sticking her on the list. This woman has Issues. Plural. Period. She makes me say shit like 'I want to dig into her brain with a fork' and it's actually an accurate metaphor for what I feel. I love her your honor... now who can I sue for emotional damages?

now we play with dolls too, just in a different way! it's you, me, a computer and lots of words to use so we can play pretend as we please. my dolls weren't actual corpses or demons, but they planned to kill their husbands (when they had one) from time to time, and mostly they were princesses or rich girls who could do whatever they wanted. even then, sometimes i ran out of dolls to play and realized the need for some new distraction to keep things afloat and interesting, something we could call nowadays a non-playable character. mothers, sisters, husbands, affairs, the options are endless! so of course, i will use this opportunity to talk about some of my grown-up npcs.

i've been dying to talk about marianne!!!!! monterey rich girlie, aquarius sun, grew up used to luxury, ditched it all when her stupid boyfriend didn't want to father their child and ran away to raise her kid alone and in a better place, she's truly my personal icon. she's an archivist for a museum right now, which has always been her biggest goal, but she took every and any kind of job while donna grew up and she kept studying so they could have something of their own: waitressing, cleaning, you name it and she probably did it. she's the kind of woman you are intimated by because she doesn't make herself busy trying to be sweet and all that but she is sweet. a notorious loretta lawrence fan!

donna's fondest childhood memories consist of the days her mom would decide they should have a spa day. they'd paint their nails, get some expensive candy, choose a musical to watch and simply enjoy themselves. having spent three years of her life in france when she was a young woman, marianne loves french musicals and constantly talks about catherine deneuve like she's an old friend of hers — her favorite french actress is isabelle huppert, though. she is one of those, and it makes total sense that she raised a girl like donna.

Frankly, the npcs outside of the god-divorce family tree. I've been playing through and like, really looking at everything and trying to do every quest and there are a lot of cool smaller stories and interesting characters.

I love Roderika and Hewg, I like Maleigh Marais, I like Gideon a lot more than I used to once I learned his whole spymaster deal instead of just knowing him as That Guy In The Library Who Hates You, I'm literally writing a fic about Millicent's sisters (and her ofc, but like nobody's sleeping on Millie) , oh and I think my friends would disown me if I didn't bring up Loretta.

Like I don't expect these characters to get a shit ton of recognition bc there isn't a lot to them, but idk if it's just me but I rarely see fanart/fic for the less important characters.

The 2023 Equestrian Festival - Week 1

I have been waiting since last year's festival, that's how much I love the four weeks in April when the Equestrian Festival happens in Star Stable Online. While I'm at home behind my computer screen, I have enough imagination to feel Jorvik around me, hear the beating of hooves against packed dirt. It makes it feel all the more real—and who's to say that it isn't?

If you don't like horses, or simply isn't interested in racing them, this festival probably isn't for you. That's alright, not everything is for everyone, after all. Maybe you think that I'm taking this too seriously, it's "only" a game, how exciting can it be? However—it's the event that I love the most in Star Stable Online.

As I'm tacking up my bay Morgan horse named Lucky (yes, I've named my horse after Lucky Luke) at the Jorvik Stables, the air is heavy with the stench of sweat. The festival is in full swing, every horse and rider damp with perspiration as race after race goes off around the tracks. There's never a moment of rest, the adrenaline pumping as riders of all ages and backgrounds tests their skills and experience against themselves and others. Lucky neighs in response to the cacophony of sounds, eager to get out there and join in on the fun. He's feisty for a gelding, fast and agile in the wild terrain of the island.

The warm spring sun heats up the cobblestone streets, and everything is bright with the festival spirit—balloons and confetti and flowers line every surface of the two main festival areas. April breathes life into the Jorvik and Moorland Stables, every NPC in place and finally able to do something else other than the mundane everyday tasks and simply standing around that plague their not-really-lives the rest of the year. Loretta is as snide as always, and we love her for it.

In a way, the Equestrian Festival is Jorvik. It's about the horsemanship, about friends, about having fun, about being different, about the horses themselves. Game or not, Star Stable Online and the Equestrian Festival fulfills a need that my life behind the screen cannot reach. As we celebrate all that Jorvik is and all that makes it our beloved Jorvik, I am overjoyed.

Eventually she realized she had been the cause of some of the family's issues and the family realized she really didn't do any of it on purpose. They eventually came back together.

She's very sexy and I feel like I need you to know this.

She and Brutus are good friends as a result of having similar interests.

Yeah he's based on the Toontown Central NPC but his personality has nothing to do with that. As a kid I thought it was neat that he had the same model as Fite, so I headcanoned him as my brother. Later I included him as the brother in the story that birthed Peece and also Brutus and also Robin (Maybe I Should Post It. Should I Post It) and gave him his personality. He's somewhat of a parental figure and best friend for Fite, because of the dysfunction of their childhood home.

Loretta is the queen bee of Moorland Stables and the co-leader of the Bobcat Girls riding club. Even though she can be a bit of a snob, I have to admit, Loretta is a really good rider and loves her horse. (The Jorvik Gazette named her one of the “rising stars” in the international dressage scene -- the next Anne von Blyssen!) And if you can get past the attitude, she’s a very loyal friend, especially to Tan.

A lot of girls around Moorland crush on Justin, but Loreta is totally obsessed with him. I don’t think he notices her in that way though. He only has eyes for horses. Poor Loretta.

the character model used for Venus Crossley is sometimes referred to as "Rosalind Dawson" in concept art—so for any of us confused about what she was doing with Clarence, this seems to me a resounding answer (I'll grant that Venus continuing to live an upper class lifestyle while Clarence spent all their money on printing vampire awareness brochures is still a good read, tho whether that was explicit or implicit i don't recall)

but, yes. her surname clearly indicates that she was not originally conceptualized as Clarence's wife, but as a relation of Aloysius Dawson's. a trophy wife, or perhaps a public-facing high society daughter to make their family image look very good?

and i think we see something like a glimpse of this original concept in one of the earlier trailers—forgive the undoubtedly low-res screenshots, I'm on mobile, but!

Lord Firstname Redgrave is taking a bite out of Venus/Rosalind in this scene! and it quickly pans right, through a window and down to the street to focus on Jonathan approaching Ascalon club

so, what? did Aloysius give his daughter/wife up to Ascalon in exchange for membership/vampirism? is she cheating on him for a chance at vampirism? or just for the dubious thrill of bedding Redgrave? (tho I'd totally get it if he still had that beard...) or if she'd already become Venus by the time this trailer was made, then was this supposed to be how Clarence got his grudge against vampires—the attack/demise of his wife?

on the other hand, DONTNOD is hilariously guilty of arbitrarily populating the scenery with whatever NPCs they had on hand for promotional material, since they had none crowd mechanics...
