#oc: dherys

Playing around with Hero Forge updates, and realizing I never made this bad bitch with it. Dherys the Iconoclast (pronounced "ther-EES" I guess, figured out that Glanfathans don't use y in their names too late 😔), Glanfathan elf, faithful and beloved of Galawain (until she learns some things), member of the Three-Tusk Stelgaer, cipher/fighter, mind hunter, and animancer who was exiled for desecrating ruins one too many times (and also for murder), after she helped to advance animancy the Dyrwood. First (in recorded history, at least) to theorize that Eora has (had) a soul and that gravity is a separate force from the Wheel, which has alternately gotten Leaden Key and Hand Occult assassins sent after her (they never succeeded) and gotten her laughed at by her academic colleagues (to her immense ire). Kit's erstwhile mentor and mother figure, quasi-cult leader, and huge asshole!

ldsjfsdkj I'm so sorry I made that post and then ran away from tumblr for a couple days -- hi anon, thank you for asking!!

I'll throw in another WIP shot here since it'll help with context:

T'Ihsek, a Vulcan, is the captain of the USS Pallantias (a Pathfinder-class long range science vessel). The senior officers pictured are Commander/First Officer Tospha Zh'Yzoti (Andorian), Commander Dherys Ajhlim (Aenar), Lieutenant Commander Rreri (Caitian), Lieutenant Commander 5 of 7 (Liberated Borg/xB), Lieutenant Kuurshem (Kentari), and Lieutenant T'Peyra (Vulcan).

T'Ihsek was my first captain in Star Trek Online back in 2014, though she was originally an OC I made for the TNG era! She started out as a medic, and since then I've waffled around with her occupying a variety of medical roles. I think if STO can magically bestow upon you command of a starship as a literal fresh academy graduate, then surely she can go from being a doctor to a captain within a reasonable amount of time... right? Let's go with that. Her background in medicine inspires her command style: she prioritizes neutrality whenever possible and strictly follows the spirit of the law Starfleet general orders and regulations. One of her goals is to never have a run-in with the Temporal Integrity Commission.

The Pallantias is a science-focused ship and typically does Science Things™. However, the STO timeline is unfortunately filled to the brim with conflict and war, and so the ship and its crew are both battle-worn... like Doctor Bashir in the latter half of the Dominion War. Honestly, I'm still fleshing out the remainder of her crew! Even though she's been an OC of mine for nearly a decade, I've never focused much on the crew of her ships. I'd love to do more work on them as time allows.

I can say for certain though that Dherys is a big himbo teddy bear. With the way his uniform makes him stand out in the composition above, it makes me think that the Pallantias has a "baby on board!" sticker in a rear window somewhere, but it reads "doctor on board!"

All of it was adra-based jewelry, in variations of green and blue and white, delicately affixed with small and complex and clearly animantic arrays of copper. But the sword pressed unwavering against Aloth's neck, just shy of slicing him open, and his thoughts didn't linger on the jewelry for long. He clutched at his grimoire but made no move to use it.

Would nae cross that'un, Iselmyr said, a tense rumble at the base of his neck, ready to launch herself forward if it came down to a fight. For once, Aloth found himself in complete agreement with her.

Iselmyr fell away suddenly with a faint surge of surprise, as Aloth had the sense of something else passing through his mind, rifling and intrusive. He swallowed, the only movement he dared, but a moment later, the tip of the sword dropped away. The woman sheathed it and stepped back, giving him a nod.

"Sorry about that," she said, nothing apologetic in her tone. "Wouldn't be the first time they've tried to get me by playing passer-by."

Some variations on a non-Watcher character who is nevertheless important to one of my Watchers. Dherys, Glanfathan wood elf and psyblade (cipher + fighter), exiled from Eir Glanfath for desecrating Engwithan ruins in search of forbidden knowledge. Follower of Galawain and obsessed with seeking information. Would qualify as an animancer, but she’s more concerned with combining natural sciences and cipher powers. Charismatic and ruthless, leads what is technically a cult of fellow knowledge-seekers. Has almost no moral compunctions about anything, and has survived probably a dozen Leaden Key assassination attempts. All around bad bitch.

Couldn’t get anyone else to look right in these, so here are some more looks for Kit’s mentor, the bastard herself – Dherys the Iconoclast, psyblade (cipher/fighter), animancer, geologist, and exile of Eir Glanfath. Once of the Three-Tusk Stelgaer, cast out for defilement and defacement crimes (also the murder thing). Helped to spearhead the continuing development of animancy in the Eastern Reach in collaboration with Dyrwoodan animancers, used what she learned to pull forbidden secrets out of Engwithan ruins. Developed the theory that adra once operated as a large scale mycorrhizal-analogous neural network (perhaps not the first person to do so, but certainly the most unkillable), and also the theory that gravity as a force exists independently of magnetism and the pull of essence.

I was having a hard time conceptualizing faces for the new little man and his sister, because no picrew or faceclaim felt right, so I finally gave Artbreeder a try and followed that up with some rough photoshop. I had two goals: to get the colors right, and to get a moon growth on my dude’s forehead in the approximate shape of a hurricane/typhoon. It turned out much better than I thought it would, except for the hairstyles.

I think their names are going to be Jordan and Danua, surname pending or not applicable, idk.
