Was digging through old art and remembered I made this sick Nitrome logo recreation but Splatoon themed (because the song Flop To It sounds like it was ripped straight from one of their games) last year so I wanted to post it here cause it's cool and rad and awesome :)

Can I have brainrot about fictional characters's card decks? Should I have brain rot about fictional characters's card decks?
Anyways--
I love these three so much.
I love how they're the only three, as far as I'm concerned, to share both the Amped Octostamp and Ink Mine cards. (Having both in their decks at the same time.)
I love how Annie's weapon cards reflect her weapons decorating side gig.
I love how Spyke and Annie have wildly different brands for their cards, but then proceed to have overlap with them sharing the Krak-on card, implying that despite them being on opposite sides of the playing field, they're on the same team.
I love how the Carbon Roller Deco is just a miniature version of the Dynamo Roller card, and I only see it that way because Annie and Spyke, in that order, have them in their decks.
I love how that "roller in the deck" theme reflects on Murch too, as the Brush started out as a Roller class weapon and is still a subclass of the weapon type to this day despite its establishment as its own thing.
I love how the Special weapons in Spyke and Annie's decks reflect an aspect of their personality, and to a degree, their species--
Annie has a defensive special that attracts enemies like a lure, showing off her "shy yet somehow attractive (popular)" vibe and also referencing how Sea Anemones are opertunistic carnivores (waiting for prey to come by so they can capture and consume them).
While Spyke's "Outgoing yet Recluse, but not 100% by choice" and "sea roomba" vibes and references stem from the Kraken Royale, an offensive special with the potential to One-Hit enemies that glides effortlessly across the playing field. (Leading opponents to actively dodge and evade the Special as a result)
In a more general sense, I just love how Spyke and Annie's cards themselves are extremely similar yet wildly different, reflecting them as characters. I love how Annie's special peg is representative of Moe, while Spyke's special peg represents his eye (Like Murch's card does).
I love how Spyke has Murch in his deck.
I know everyone from the Booyah Base has their splat 3 counterpart in their decks, but this is just adorable to me. It gives off that "having a picture of your child in your wallet" vibe to me. Love it.
I love them.

Character Spotlight: Marco Veina
Tumblr media
Birthday: March 8th
Personality: Used to be rather muted, but has since come out of his shell after discovering his old socials and emulating his previous self. He’s a goofy jokester and kind of an idiot. He can emulate a controlled octoling perfectly, much to everyone’s unease. He’s got an unhealthy relationship with his disabled shades, then both serving as a weird comfort and as a sort of trigger, getting him into episodes of typically sanitized behavior despite no one controlling him. He is a lot more susceptible to manipulation in this state.
Backstory: former technician and attempted escapee of the Octarian regime via the metro. His job involed gear production and great octoweapon maintanence, and he had a hand in designing the armour for octostamps. He was metro applicant 9864, unfortunately he was not so lucky and got sanitized. He was later rescued along with a few others by Carrie, whom he is currently dating. He lives in his own flat with his adopted sister Sai, and works at Humpback Pump Track as a day job.
Extras:
Has two permanent wristbands branded with his number code-name from his metro days (34660-83144)
He used to be on a roller derby team with Gale!
He has accumulated several splatlings since his escape from the metro but has not had the ability to use them due to his,,,, affliction. This is a point of jealousy for him because he would absolutely love to join in on turf war if he could.
His main Splatling is custom engraved with a coconut palm and features glow in the dark plastic
He is a descendant of a coconut octopus, as such, he has affinity towards hiding under things/ Hard hats.
He’s also responsible for some of the metro graffiti.

Seeing as I just made a post about how people should make more non-'ling OCs, I figured it might be a good idea to make a list of all the various species included so far in Splatoon!
All species with only a few members are listed with those examples next to them, including where they're from. This is so it's easier to look them up and find examples of the species on Inkipedia, so you can get a guide faster :p
italics = in-game/3D model
bold = especially humanoid

Observations, Thoughts and Speculation on Technology and Weaponry in Splatoon
I think it's already widely known that Salmonids and Octarians have a trade agreement, which enables Salmonids to use Octarian technology in exchange for Power Eggs. But upon further observation of the desing of weaponry some things don't seem to add up and even leave room for speculation.
Let us first take a look at a few examples which showcase the parallels between Octarian and Salmonid waeapons:
1. Obvious parallels
These salmonid outright use octarian technology, in form of scrapped parts.
First off we have the helicopter helmets used by Octocopters being used by various salmonid, like the Chinook, the Smallfry operating(?) the Fishstick, which also seem to use the same nozzles found on the tanks of Octotroopers, and as of Splatoon 3 the Snatchers.
Then there are the Scrappers using the shields from Shielded Octotroopers, which also play the "Onward!" motif when stunned, which is heavily tied to DJ Octavio.
2. The Maybes
These are the weapons which may have ties to octarian technology and some are very speculative.
First off the Flipper Flopper, whose eyes bare a resemblance to the eyes of the Octo Shower from Octo canyon. This similarity could also just stem from aesthetics but I opted to mention it anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Mothership seems to employ levitation technology, which is also heavily associated with Octarians.
The Grillers function a lot like Flooders and could therefore be directly inspired by them.
Now we come to the last category:
3. Ties to Octarians and Inkling Weapon manufacturers
These weapons not only resemble octarian tech but also Special weapons used in Turf Wars which lead to the question of who invented what first and how did the tech get from one to the other.
Let's take a look at the [Big Shot], which uses its cannon to create shockwaves in the same way as DJ Octavio in his Boss battle, the Amped Octostamps in Alterna, and the Wavebreaker. Even though the Methods are different, the all have the same effect.
Another example are the Flyfish, using bottle missiles just like Tenta Missiles and the Octostrikers in Octo Expansion. (Though this is speculative, as we can't be sure if the Missile Octostrikers were a part of the actual Octarian Army, or if they were a fabrication of Kamabo Co. as we don't encounter them in Octo Canyon.)
Lastly there is the case of the Slammin'Lid which uses Octarian levitation technology as well as a force field similar to the Big Bubbler and the Octodisco. Here I'd like to mention that the Octidisco also uses the same propeller as the Big Bubbler to stay in the air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These examples put into question who invented what first. So there are a few explanations:
a) Octarians came up with the tech first, then gave it to the Octarians, and Inkopolis weapon manufacturers just copied them and sold them as their own ideas.
b) It was the other way around, in which the Octarians or the Salmonid copied the Special Weapons
c) All 3 parties individually came up with the same ideas, which seems highly unlikely
I personally favor scenario a) in which Weapon Manufacturers copy the other two, as this would put Inkling society/ corporations into a different light, using their enemies technology to decimate them. Which leads us to Grizzco Industries, as they are possibly the only company with close enough contact to the Salmonid to efficiently replicate their tech, to then sell it to Weapon Manufacturers.
Scenario a) is also supported by the existence of the Stingray and Inkstorm Special Weapons as these are also used by Stingers and Drizzlers respectively. The fact that both Special Weapons entered the market around the same time as Salmon Runs were starting to happen, alludes to the possibility of Weapon Manufacturers copying the Salmonids weapons.
I think the same happening the other way around is less likely, because I can't really picture the Salmonid spying on the Inklings. This seems to be more of an Octarian thing.
And there you have it. A possible explanation for the parallels in Weaponry between the Inklings, Octarians and Salmonid. Any further thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Splatoon 3 Side Order Update (Again!)
Wazzup wazzup eveyone! I'm back at it again with some more interesting Side Order-related news! Recently a bunch of stuff for Side Order has been datamined (it seems that the devs have been adding stuff for Side Order ever since launch), so I'd like to go over some of the stuff that was found. No spoilers, but if you'd rather be suprised whenever we actually get Side Order this is your warning. Otherwise, here's some new info regarding Side Order (organized by when they were added, which were during splatfests)!
Rock v Paper v Scissors (testfire fest, August 2022):
nothing too noteworthy over here, just some scenes, whatever those might be.
(nothing for Gear v Grub v Fun in September 2022)
Grass v Fire v Water (November 2022)
wave 2 misc scene added
scene attribute to use for the DLC
Spicy v Sweet v Sour (January 2023)
actor attribute added
added two enemy actors under the names Shell and ZakoStandard
Side note: yay new enemies
Dark Chocolate v Milk Chocolate v White Chocolate (February 2023)
actor attribute added to allow enemies to attack a target (possibly the player)
added object actors under the names PaintTargetArea (splatzones), VictoryBall (8-ball), and VictoryBallGoal (8-ball goal)
Side note: YEP THAT'S RIGHT MATES 8-BALL LEVELS ARE COMING BACK.
added scenes imlying progression on a tower (potentially Deca Tower, duh)
Side note: so what that last addition is basically saying is that Side Order will be kinda like Pizza Tower but scary (and marine life themed, of course). But I mean, I guess we should've known about the tower progression for a while now (the French title of Side Order is Order Tower; I talked about this in a post some time ago). But hey, news is news and we're in dire need for Side Order news. Anyways, moving on (things get real interesting after this)
Nessie v Aliens v Bigfoot (March 2023)
added two bosses under the names BallKing and TowerKing (there's been some speculation that BallKing could be the Octowhirl from Splatoon 1, which would be okay with me as long as they don't bring back the Octostamp.... AGAIN....) (also I have a strong feeling in my gut that TowerKing will be the final boss of Side Order)
added an actor for collectible items
added NPC actors
added lift actors (tower control tower)
added spawner objects
added soaker block actor to Side Order
added person names (most likely belonging to the devs) (you know for the credits)
added scenes for a boss fight and something called creator (level creation?)
Power v Wisdom v Courage (April 2023)
added a lift actor to avoid an 8-ball from going somewhere
added an object actor for both inkrails and grindrails
Vanilla v Strawberry v Mint Chip (July 2023)
all Side Order related strings have been removed :(
And that's all we got up to date! Hopefully we get to see Side Order for Drizzle Season 2023 (AKA the game's first aniversery). I mean with all this data in the game you'd think we'd get news soon, right? We got the rewards and now all of this in the game (or at least until all the SIde Order related strings were removed), maybe even more than that. Anyways if you want a more in-depth look into all of this info, please see Splat Channel's vid (I'll link it to the post right here). But with that being said hopefully, one bright and sunny day we'll get a trailer and release date for Side Order. Someday...
Anyways I'll keep y'all up to date with anything new revolving Side Order, I'll even post an in-depth analysis for the Side Order trailer whenever it does come out (I promise this time; I might've forgotten to do one for Sizzle Season but I assure you I will make one this time). Staaay fresh, everyone!

Inktober day 9! Prompt: Fuzzy Octos!
I’ve been playing Genshin Impact for the last couple of hours so it’s just a rough sketch of some Octarians, but I think they look good! I like the Octodiscos and I find Octostamps really cute, so they were the first ones I drew! Of course, I had to add some Octotroopers and an Octoling as well. If I had more space, I would have added a Twintacle Octotrooper, but it’s alright!

it’s official
i hate the new squid sisters in S3.
they’re apparently called deep cut, but i’m just gonna call them “annoying pieces of shit” bc that’s essentially what they are.
not only are they a stupid idol group, but they are BANDITS in story mode, and are likely the ones spreading the fuzzy mammalian ooze(we know this because after everyone fell through the crater because a giant puddle of ooze fell on it, we saw deep cut in story mode for the first time).
frye even owns a bunch of flying killer eels in a (probably stolen) octostamp whose screeching got my dad suspicious
DO NOT TRUST DEEP CUT
big man is cool though. and at least we know shiver is a girl because i could see her butt in deep cut’s introduction in story mode.
