today's repostober comes with a lot of words. because if i remember correctly i restrained myself from writing an essay at the time i made these. because look. all of the ut cast but especially papyrus belong in the harvest moon 64 world. i don't care if crossovers are cringe (are they? no don't answer because i really don't care). these are my two favorite video games and they go together like pb and j.
anyway first we have papyrus drinking water after water after water at the bar. this is an incredibly time consuming but free way to get unlimited energy to upgrade all your tools to the max on the first night. hypothetically. if you feel like spending. idk......20 hours or so of your life doing it......(he does) (sans does not). because not only is it free as in, costs no in game currency, time stands still inside the bar and in this game time IS MONEY. also "aren't you the healthy one?" is what the bartender says when you order the glass of water and I've only read it about one hundred million times in my life

a weird exploit exists at the horse races in which you can prepare to place an extravagant bet but withdraw it at the last moment. you pay nothing but the game considers the bet placed all the same. so you bet he will figure that out and take advantage of it!! seriously though, i just love the idea of the situation being a bit switched from the way it was in undertale. sans has a bit of a hard time finding his place in this weird surface world. (and yes i think he would stress about bills. what of it.) papyrus somehow finds his way into the hearts of every single person in the village. he is at the top of his game and everyone loves him!!!!!!!

Little Mermaid (Underswap Sans x Reader) Rating: General Audiences.
This is a one shot from my Fairy Tale AU series cross posted on Ao3. I hope you enjoy this, I know I certainly did! All ownership goes to UnderSwap’s Sans creator. (I forgot what your name was :/) Now for a fluffy Little Mermaid retelling Sans x Reader
The surface dwellers had always intrigued you. All of their wondrous inventions were always ruined by the time they were found. From those strange metal objects with small spikes on the edge of them, loving dubbed "triple knives" by the Royal Appraiser, to the peculiar soggy things that were bound in leather and dissolved when you touched them.
You loved exploring the wreckages, always discovering more inventions. Your favorite being a strange instrument that when flipped, sand would drop to the bottom. You would play with it for hours, it never seized to amaze you at what the humans invented.
Your family looked down on your habits, calling you eccentric and strange. You paid them no mind though, and greatly enjoyed your time exploring.
But with each discovery, your longing to view the surface grew more and more. You wanted so badly to be able to walk amongst the Land Dwellers, you'd gladly kill yourself for even a day with them. You had waited patiently for your eighteenth birthday, that would be the day you'd visit the Surface!
Instead of watching from underwater you could swim to the Surface and see all the wonders! (From a safe distance of course.) You eagerly counted down the days until your birthday, month after month, week after week, and finally day after day. Then, it finally arrived, your birthday was tomorrow!
With pleasurable mood you went about your business, excitement in the thought you'd view the surface finally! As you swam through the city, a gathering of people caught your attention. Drawn by the crowd you swam to the front, people parting to let you pass.
"Our great king Triton passes a Royal Degree that on the people's eighteenth birthday, they shall be no longer be allowed to the Surface." The crowd muttered, and you felt your heart shattering. How could your father do this to you? You squared your shoulders in Determination and swam towards the palace, determined to change his mind.
You sobbed on your bed, the water contorting around you. Your father had forbidden you from leaving the palace. The new law was to protect you. According to him your obsession with the Surface was becoming dangerous, and when you had come to your senses you'd be allowed to roam the palace freely again.
You sniffed softly, your tears slowly stopping. You wouldn't let this stop you, you'd...find a way around it. You began planning. If anyone could help you it was the Sea Witch Ursula. You had heard many stories about her. Some good, some evil, some in the middle ground.
You waited until night had fallen, and your family was dinning happily in the Banquet Hall. Bitterly you swam through the Halls and out the main gate, disappearing into the Kelp Forest.
You floated nervously in front of the cave entrance. This was Ursula's lair, you were sure of it. You tentatively began to push yourself forward, but you got cold fins and began to backpedal. Turning away, face distraught at your failure and disappointment in your eyes, you almost missed the voice calling out to you.
"Dear child. Come in~ visitorssss are alwayssss welcomed here." A voice hissed at you. You swallowed, and slowly began the swim into the cave.
You followed along the passage, the voice guiding you along. Finally you reached the end, entering a large room, you felt your heart stop.
A large imposing siren was stirring a potion over an enchanted fire. You had heard stories of your ancestors, but having never met one. Your tail twitched nervously as she remained entranced in her potion.
"Come in dear~ I won't bite." She hissed, her voice was obviously old and ruined. "Tell me what troubles you? Could it a young man? A romance unrequited? Perhaps you have a family member who lays ill. Or maybe..." She turned and peered at you, "You wish to visit the Surface like a Land Dweller." She hissed the last part with distaste, and you felt your blood run cold at both her tone, and the words she spoke. How did she know?
"You are not the first to come seeking that, nor will you be the last. The price will be high, but it is payable." You felt your heart leap with joy, before feeling it sink as her words registered. A...high price? No matter, you'd willingly pay it!
"What would you like Lady Ursula, be it my throne, my first born, or anything else, I guarantee you shall have it." You murmured lowly, eyes staring fiercely into hers.
She laughed, her voice echoing eerily around the cavern. "My child, I need none of that. All I wish for is your voice. That's all, I will grant you what you desire, in return for your voice."
You felt your heart fall again. Your voice was one of your best characteristics, it was prized by your father as the best of all of your sisters. Not that it mattered, it was unlikely you'd see them again.
"If I give you my voice, I can go to the Surface? For how long?" Your voice wavered slightly, but grew firm.
"Until you die my child, or... I could make a deal with you." Her mouth formed into a sharp grin and you eyed them wearily.
"What kind of deal?" You narrowed your eyes, deals with those who dabbled in magic were not to be trusted.
"If you find someone to fall in love with, and who loves you in return. Your voice will be returned to you. You will only have three months to preform this task, and if you fail, you shall become the foam on the sea." You shifted nervously. You might could've charmed someone with your voice, but without would be much more difficult than with it. But what the hell, if you died so what?
"I accept." You eagerly held out a hand to the enchantress.
She grinned deeply, "then let us begin."
You winced as you numbly felt your mouth with your fingers, your tongue had been sliced out, if someone did fall in love with you, it would grow back.
"Here." Ursula gave you a small vial filled with a lilac potion. You eyed it, "Relax, this is the potion that will turn you human now, be sure to-" You snatched the vial eagerly and swam away, missing the last part of her message. "Foolish child."
You grinned as you swam through the kelp forest, unable to wait any longer you popped the bottle open and downed the liquid inside. Suddenly you gasped in pain, as something began burning and searing at your body. You tail felt like it was being torn in two, and your gills felt clogged. You struggled momentarily, closing your eyes in pain before it stopped. You cracked your eyes and to your glee there were two dangly things instead of a tail! You tried to shout in excitement, but found yourself unable to breath. In your haste you had forgotten Land Dwellers couldn't breath water!
You attempted to swim upwards but felt dismayed as you couldn't swim as quickly. Black spots began to fill your vision, just before you reached the surface you lost consciousness and plummeted into the depths.
"HUMAN! WAKE UP!" A loud voice shouted in your ear and you bolted upwards. Confusion flooded you as you looked at your surroundings...this wasn't underwater. This...wasn't UNDERWATER! You pumped a fist in triumph, celebration on the forefront of your mind...until someone cleared their voice. "GLAD TO SEE YOUR AWAKE! THE MEDICS WERE AFRAID YOU WOULDN'T WAKE UP!" You turned your eyes upon him, this was the first Land Dweller you'd meet. You blinked in surprise, this was not what you were expecting. A large skeleton stood before you. There were literal stars in his eyes and his gaze met yours. You managed to scramble to your knees and you pit your hands on his face trying to examine him.
"ERM HUMAN, AS MAGNIFICENT AS I AM. I MUST ASK THAT YOU REFRAIN FROM TOUCHING ME WITHOUT PERMISSION. I APPRECIATE YOUR EAGERNESS THOUGH." You flushed and jumped backwards, and you met his gaze apologetically. He simply laughed softly at you.
"IT'S OK LITTLE HUMAN. I KNOW I AM IRRESISTIBLE! I'M HAPPY YOU SEEM OK! IT SEEMED LIKE SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO HURT YOU!" You blinked confused, someone tried to hurt you? You opened your mouth to explain, but stopped when you couldn't get any sounds to come forth. Oh. That was why. You shrugged sheepishly at the Skeleton's look, and tried to mime an explanation but stopped when he looked more confused.
"YOU MUST WANT MY NAME HUMAN! MY NAME IS THE MAGNIFICENT SANS! PRINCE OF SNOWDIN KINGDOM! CAN YOU WRITE SMALL HUMAN?" You smiled at that, Sans was a fitting name from him.
You stared at him quizzically when he mentioned writing, what was writing? it sounded pretty.
Noticing your confusion he opened a drawer and pulled out parchment and a charcoal pencil. You leaned forward cautiously as he scribbled something on the paper.  Holding it up you could faintly make out familiar markings, it looked similar to the Mermish Alphabet. You held out your hand tentatively. You wanted to try to make the strange marks too! "OH! DO YOU WANT TO TRY HUMAN?" You beamed up at him, glad he had gotten the hint. He placed the stick in your hand and you poked it at the strange paper thing. You squeaked when it left a mark, and you peered up shocked at Sans who laughed at you.
"HERE...HUMAN LIKE THIS ~"
@#$@@$@@$@$@%@$&@%@%#&@%#&#%@%#%#%#%#%@@&#&@%%#
It's been almost two months since you had become human. Sans had become your best friend. You loved your time on the Surface. Everything amazed you, you learned the "triple knives" thing was actually a nifty invention called a fork! And it was meant for food, not hair! There were many of those sand things that you learned were called Sand Glasses and they would count the time for you.
Sans had a wonderful brother named Papyrus who made continuous puns and jokes to Sans eternal annoyance. You how ever loved them and could (and would) listen to them for hours.
You were feeling slightly nervous as your time was almost up! But you had something that would help everything go faster now! Sans had hired a tutor to teach you how to read and write, and you were now fluent in English writing!
You sat in a restaurant grinning at the person before you who was looking at you skeptically. You clasped your notebook eagerly and grinned at them.
They sent you a wink and placed a hand on your shoulder. "So sweetheart, what brings you around here?" You quickly scribbled a note in your notebook explaining how you were lonely and looking for a friend. They skimmed over it and chuckled softly. "Not gotta voice?" You raised an eyebrow at them, your action clearly speaking your meaning.
They laughed a booming laugh. "No need to yell at me Sweetheart ~" They grinned down at you. "So what'da wanna eat?" You beamed back at him, quickly growing comfortable with them.
You squealed happily! The friendship date went so well! You did a strange little happy dance, and practically skipped to your room. You weren't paying attention to where you were going and ran straight into Sans's *fiancé*. She absolutely hated you. So it was no surprise when she glared at you, the scowl on her face more evident than ever. You mimed an apology but she simply grew angrier.
"How dare you!" Her shrill voice hissed out, "you pathetic wretch!" She went to slap you, but you scrambled backwards and ducked away from her with a laugh. You slipped into your room and locked the door with a quiet click.
Letting out a happy hum you began to write down in your journal about your new friend, and hopefully soon to be lover, Alex.
@%#&##@&$@4&##$#&+(%$$!((&$4+($$&+%+:%(+&-?!%-;%+;%++'6(+?%#;@(#+
Things had been going so well with Alex, you were head over heels in love with him, and he seemed to feel the same way about you!
He was constantly hanging around the castle just to see you! Nothing made you more happy than to see his slightly messy appearance, coming jogging towards you out of one of the castle corridors.
Which is why it came as such a shock when it was revealed by a maid, he was seen snogging Sans's fiancé. Your heart felt like it was breaking. You only had two days left until your time was up.
You bitterly cried for hours, as he had revealed to you he never had any interest in you besides platonic friendship. You were going to die tomorrow and you couldn't stop it.
Sans tried to comfort you, but couldn't do much due to his own misery at his ex fiancée and his unknowningness of your situation.
Finally he left you, and retreated distraught to his room. You continued crying until the next day. You felt numb. Your family was right, the Land Dwellers were a cruel people, aside from a few exceptions. Sans was one of those people.
You dried your tears and pulled your notebook to you, writing out the whole story. For the most part. Tearing out those pages you gently folded them and placed them on the bed.
You then dressed yourself properly and began the trek to the sea. Each step you took was painful, it felt like sharp knives were pricking your feet, and the sun felt like fire upon your fair skin. You had already spent your time mourning, so you simply climbed down the cliffs and sat waiting for the sun to set.
You hadn't expected for it to go like this. You had been so confident in your abilities to charm someone. A lone tear trailed down your face, but before it fell something caught it.
Or should you say someone? You glared up at Sans through a blur of tears. How dare he follow you here, the sun was almost set.
He knelt beside you and laid his head on your shoulder, "Why Didn't You Tell Me Before?" He whispered, "I Could've Helped You." You shrugged, determined to get him to leave before you...passed.
"..." his voice shook when he spoke again. "I'll Kill Myself Then." You stared up startled at him, shock and horror evident on your face. "Yes. I Don't Want To Be Without You... You Mean The World To Me..." His hands shook, a rustle of paper making your realize he had the papers you had left clutched in his hand.
You shook your head no at him, but he ignored you. "Please. I Don't Care If Papyrus Would Be Left Alone, I Love You So Much." His arms wrapped around you and made you shake slightly.
You were still processing the words he said, until you realized with a sniff the sun was almost gone. You reached a hand up to pat his arm in a comforting way to try and say "no, don't kill yourself." You closed your eyes as the sun set.
The pain to your relief stopped, and you blacked out in relief. It was over, you hoped Sans wouldn't kill himself.
Suddenly a burst of light brought you back into reality with a gasp. Sans held your body sobbing and you blinked up at him. Why was he crying? You were free now? You felt his tears hit your face. And in your desperation you tried calling out his name. "Sanssss" Sans jumped in surprise, sockets popping open to stare at you. He mouthed the word what, and you tried again.
"Sannsssss" he stared at you with an open jaw, before giving a croak and cradling your head close to him.
"Oh Thank The Stars, I Thought I'd Lost You." He sniffed into your shoulder and you smiled softly. You were dead and nothing would change that.
Sans brought his lips to yours in a delicate kiss, forcing you to realize that you were alive.
"What the hell?" You mumbled into the kiss.

His Bark Part 5:
He hadn’t meant to fall asleep. But the sound of the little human’s breathing below him had lulled him to sleep. It was much different than the snoring he was used to when Sans slept there; not that his brother spent much time with his family anymore anyways.
Besides his assignments, he didn’t spend much time with his family at all; opting to spend his every free moment with his “girl”.
Papyrus stared at the sleeping girl on the bottom bunk. She was clutching the pillow tightly, her knees curled in towards her chest, a very defensive position. Her hair fell over her cheeks hiding her cute face. He squatted down beside the bed. He wanted to see her sleeping face, up close. Carefully, he brushed the hair behind her ear. She flinched but did not wake up.
As he watched her back rise and fall, he began to understand Sans’ current obsession with his new lady friend. The little human was intoxicating, he found himself being pulled to her. Though he wasn’t sure he would ever be as fully involved with a girl like Sans was, he had to admit he wouldn’t mind having her around for awhile~
He sighed and pushed those thoughts away.
She wasn’t here to be friendly with though. Besides, he had very high standards that he doubted she would be able to meet-no matter how cute she was. He took one last long look before heading towards the door.
He better make breakfast before she woke up. He would hate for her to find him gone and start to worry herself again.
.........
She woke up slowly. Her eyes felt swollen and puffy from all the crying she had done the night before.
She looked around her, letting her eyes adjust. She was still in Papyrus’s room. Nothing had happened, no one had tried anything.
The girl sat up, listening for breathing coming from the top bunk. Was he still asleep? Did skeletons even breathe?
She didn’t hear anything; no movement, nothing.
That’s when her eyes came to rest on the side table. There lay her clothes, neatly folded with a note sitting on top. She reached for the piece of paper.
‘HUMAN, I HAVE GONE DOWNSTAIRS TO PREPARE BREAKFAST. IF YOU WAKE UP BEFORE I RETURN, GET DRESSED AND WAIT FOR ME; I WILL BRING BREAKFAST TO YOU. IF YOU ARE STILL ASLEEP WHEN I RETURN, I WILL LEAVE IT ON THE TABLE NEXT TO YOUR CLOTHES. PAPYRUS’
The girl felt herself smile a bit. Even though he was a killer, he seemed to be very thoughtful, if not just detail oriented.
She looked over at her clothes. They were folded nicely and smelled of what she could only describe as a mans cologne. Deep, rich, and musky. They felt soft as she picked them up. At least she had something familiar in this place.
At that moment she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. She felt her heart quicken. Was it Papyrus? The door opened slowly.
Papyrus peeked in the door.
“OH HUMAN, YOU’RE AWAKE.”
He closed the door behind him, setting the tray of food in his hands on the bedside table.
“DID YOU SLEEP WELL?”
The girl nodded.
“Yes. Thanks for...staying.”
A look of surprise crossed the youngest skeleton’s face. The girl thought she also saw some red spreading across his face, but he turned away before she could see.
“NO THANKS IS NEEDED. IT IS MY JOB TO KEEP AN EYE ON YOU.”
The girl clutched her clothes tighter.
“Yeah...right.”
Papyrus sighed.
“GO GET DRESSED HUMAN. YOUR BREAKFAST IS GETTING COLD.”
The girl nodded and retreated to the bathroom.
....
The girl seemed a little less uncomfortable when she was finally in her own clothes again. She ate her breakfast without much conversation, though her facial expressions said many words. Finally she finished her plate.
“Thank you for the food, you’re a very good cook.”
The youngest skeleton felt a beam of pride go through him.
“OF COURSE HUMAN! THERE IS NO GREATER COOK THAN I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS!”
The girl gave him a small, smile. Papyrus felt his soul thump a bit.
So cute~
“I wish I were better at cooking, I know the basics and I’m not too bad, but I could definitely be better. I do like to bake though.”
Papyrus raised his eye ridge.
“REALLY?”
She nodded. “It helps me to relax.”
Papyrus considered this. It would probably help the human stay calm if she were doing something she loved.
“...WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY AND COOK SOMETHING?”
The girl looked up at him in surprise.
“...what?”
Papyrus studied her face. She didn’t seem apposed to the idea, just surprised to hear him say it.
“YOU COULD HELP ME PREPARE LUNCH AND DURING THAT I COULD TEACH YOU HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR COOKING SKILLS!”
She looked away sheepishly.
“Are you sure? I’ve been told I’m not exactly easy to teach. I-I tend to get overwhelmed very easily when I don’t understand or know how to do something.”
Papyrus puffed his chest up in pride.
“NYEH HEH HEH! YOU MAY NOT BE AWARE OF THIS HUMAN, BUT AMONG MY MANY TALENTS I POSSESS, I AM ALSO AN EXCELLENT TEACHER! I’M CERTAIN THAT BY THE TIME IM DONE WITH YOU, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO COOK AT AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL. ALTHOUGH STILL NOT AS GOOD AS ME!”
She looked down at her lap, seeming to contemplate his offer. A troubled look came over her face.
“What about...your family? Won’t your brothers be upset to see me-out? A-And what about-“
“DO NOT WORRY HUMAN, MY COUSINS ARE GONE FOR THE DAY AND DO NOT USUALLY RETURN UNTIL NIGHTFALL. AS FOR MY BROTHERS, THEY ARE OUT WORKING FOR NOW.”
The youngest skeleton got up and strode over to the door. He opened it wide and looked back at her.
“WELL?”
The girl blinked a few times, before finally rising from the bed and following him out the door.
.....
“A GOOD KNIFE IS A CHEF’S BEST FRIEND.”
The tall skeleton brandished the utensil in front of the girl.
“IF SHARPENED AND PROPERLY CARED FOR IT CAN BE USED FOR A VARIETY OF JOBS.”
He saw the girl visibly swallow as the blade got near her.
“DO NOT WORRY HUMAN, ALL KNIVES IN THIS KITCHEN HAVE ONLY BEEN USED FOR COOKING.”
Without another thought, he turned and grabbed the vegetable he was going to dispatch.
“OBSERVE CAREFULLY HUMAN. I WILL SHOW YOU ONCE, THEN I WILL LET YOU TRY.”
She nodded and watched as he made quick work of the vegetable in front of him barely missing a beat.
“NOW YOU TRY.”
He motioned for her to step in front of the cutting board, handing her the knife handle first. He placed another vegetable down and stood off to the side, watching her intently.
Slowly, the girl tried mimicking his movements as she chopped the vegetable.
“NO, NO, NO! YOUR DOING IT ALL WRONG HUMAN! SLANT THE BLADE IN AND THEN CHOP DOWN!”
The girl nodded, adjusted the blade, and tried again.
“NOW YOUR JUST SAWING IT! IT’S NOT A PIECE OF WOOD, SLANT THE BLADE AND THEN CHOP STRAIGHT DOWN!”
The girl tensed, her hand shaking, chopping down dangerously close to one of her fingers. Something stopped the blade just in time. A bony hand grasped the knife, mere centimeters from cutting off the tip of her finger.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! YOU COULD HAVE CHOPPED YOUR DAMN FINGER OFF! WHY WEREN’T YOU PAYING ATTENTION?!”
The girl let go off the knife and took a step back, hugging herself tightly. She let out a ragged breath.
“If your going to just keep yelling at me, I might as well just go back upstairs and you can finish lunch by yourself!”
This gave Papyrus pause. In his zeal for culinary perfection he had forgotten that she was still a novice. He had wanted this to help calm her down and maybe get another one of those adorable smiles out of her. But in his haste to teach he had forgotten how fragile she was right now.
“...MY APOLOGIES. I TEND TO GET OVER ZEALOUS WHEN IT COMES TO COOKING. I WOULD LIKE IT IF YOU STAYED TO HELP ME-CAN WE TRY AGAIN?”
The girl gave him a wary look. The tall skeleton sighed.
“WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER THIS TIME. I WILL GUIDE YOU TO SHOW YOU THE PROPER FORM. I ...PROMISE TO WATCH MY TONE.”
‘Just trust me human. Give me another chance. I won’t let you down.’
He saw the girl give a small sigh. Finally she walked slowly back to the cutting board.
Papyrus felt his soul leap.
The girl hesitantly picked back up the knife, then looked back at him, waiting.
Papyrus came up behind her, laying his giant hands over hers as gently as possible. He was careful to keep his body from touching hers-which wasn’t hard because of the size difference. But even so; his soul thumped from the close contact.
She was so small~
He moved her free hand to the vegetable and positioned her hand properly on it.
“YOU MUST USE YOUR KNUCKLES TO HOLD IT DOWN. THIS WAY IT WILL NOT SLIP WHEN YOU ARE HOLDING THE VEGETABLE, KEEPING YOUR FINGERS INTACT.”
She glanced back at him and nodded. He thought he detected a hint of red on her face. But otherwise, she was remaining quite calm at his contact.
Gently, he picked up her hand with the knife and situated it over the vegetable.
Her little body was now completely encircled and engulfed by his own. Though he took great care to keep her separated from him, he could feel the feeling from earlier creeping up in him.
Hunger....need.
He wanted her closer-right up on him. Close enough to smell and caress~
Papyrus snapped himself out of that train of thought. He had to admit, the human was intoxicating. But she still did not meet all of his standards! It would take more than an interest in cooking to hook him.
But...there was no harm in being a little bit closer~
“NOW, YOU POSITION YOUR KNIFE SLANTED STARTING AT THE TIP AND SLOWLY PUSH IT FORWARD WHILE BRINGING IT DOWN.”
He demonstrated this to her while guiding her hand gently through the motions. After a few more demonstrations, Papyrus reluctantly released his hold so she could try on her own.
“VERY GOOD HUMAN! YOU LEARN FAST, BY THE END OF THIS YOU MIGHT JUST BE A NOVICE AT IT!”
The girl gave him a small embarrassed smile.
Papyrus could feel himself itching to be close to her again.
.....
It took awhile, but they soon fell into a groove.
Slowly, lunch came together until finally the last thing to do was plate it.
“NOW JUST GENTLY SPREAD IT OUT ON THE PLATE IN A FAN SHAPE....YES, JUST LIKE THAT EXCELLENT WORK HUMAN.”
The tall skeleton looked over her shoulder as she spread the finishing touches on each plate, gently guiding her hands when needed.
Finally, she finished and looked back to admire her work.
Papyrus laid a hand carefully on her shoulder.
“VERY GOOD WORK HUMAN. YOU DID VERY WELL.”
The girl looked up at him and smiled, making his soul race.
“Well, I did have a good teacher.”
He could feel his cheekbones turning red at her compliment, and had to be mindful not to squeeze her shoulder in his excitement.
Behind them, someone cleared their throat.
Both the girl and the younger skeleton turned to find two of his brothers standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
“Are we...interrupting?”
......

“Are we...interrupting?”
.........

Crisco 129: Dystopian Sansby Dream AU-pt 6
Papyrus fell asleep with his head on the kitchen table. Grillbz picked him up to carry him upstairs and he cringed and whined, then wrapped his arms about Grillbz’ neck.
Grillbz stood outside in the hall with his arms crossed while Sans helped Papyrus change into an old set of pajamas. Sans laughed. “Geez bro, you have grown.” Papyrus had said it was alright for him to spend the night. Someone would be there to pick him up in the morning. Papyrus asked something, and Sans said “I’ll be back, just wanna say g’night to Grillb.” The door swung open. Sans looked up at him. After considering for a moment Grillbz picked him up, swung him across the hallway into his room and stood him on the side of his bed. Sans raised his brow ridges. “Slow down hot stuff, you haven’t even seduced me yet.” “He’s staying?” “Yes.” “Good.” “Good?” “I agree.” “Yeah. Good. I was worried you uh… I dunno, you looked worried earlier.” “I am. Sans, remember something for me.” “Kay?” “He’ll always be your brother, but he’s not the same person he was when he left here.” Sans forced himself to absorb this and nodded. “Yeah I know. Thanks.” “I don’t understand why you’re thanking me, but you’re welcome.” He kissed Sans on the nasal bone and lifted him onto the floor. “See you in the morning.”
In the morning when Sans slid out of bed Papyrus was instantly awake. “WHAt timE Is iT?” “Early, I just need to do some prep. Go back to sleep.” “IN youR pAjAmaS?” “Huh? Yeah, why’d I get dressed any sooner than I have to? Heh.” “BROTher you arE inSufFeraBlE.”
Sans went downstairs to the kitchen before teleporting, just in case Papyrus was listening to his footsteps. This was part of his morning ritual now, he reflected darkly.
Starting up went smoothly. The old lady asked about his ‘Lovely Warm Friend.’ He gave a brief answer and she immediately shot back
>What’s wrong?
>nothin >I do have something else to tell you though.
>Well, don’t leave me in suspense.
>my brother’s back.
>Oh! That’s wonderful, is he alright?
>I can’t tell. yes? he’s the same guy.
>No he isn’t. Nobody is ever always the same. >Excuse the grammar, that was a bit off.
>he’s in the guard so that’s a thing now.
>Oh God. >Has he talked much?
>no. not yet. he was tired.
>Keep an eye on him and tell me what he sounds like, will you?
>his voice seems different.
>That makes sense.
Sans started to type, pulled his hands back and ran his fingers through each other, then bit one knuckle reflectively.
>do you know what they did to him?
>Obviously I wasn’t there, but I would guess they gave him the usual treatment. He’ll be a mess, he’s had all his thoughts ripped out and fed back to him with the Confederation stamp on them. Be gentle with him, OK? But don’t trust him, not until you’re absolutely certain. Different people take it different ways and there’s no way to know, absolutely no way, until it happens.
>thanks.
>Oh dear look at that I’ve blabbed for too long, play the music! >From what you’ve told me he’s a strong boy. I’m sure he’ll be alright eventually. Just don’t rush him, and don’t do anything foolish.
>aye-aye. music is go.
Sans listened for the day’s song, still flexing his fingers tensely. When the music started, the first few notes were so soft that he almost didn’t notice them. It was piano music, a haunting, sleepy tune that rose and fell in gentle waves like the waves on a pond. Sans smiled and leaned back in his chair.
>Debussy, Reverie. Tell me how your friend likes it.
>will do, thanks so much. It’s pretty.
Sans wasn’t sure where to teleport. Papyrus might still be in his room. If he’d left, where might he be? After a moment of consideration, Sans came to a decision, closed his eyes, and teleported into Grillbz’ room. It was very quiet. He opened his eyes. He peeked into the hallway and found his room door neatly closed. Voices came from the direction of the kitchen. Sans started down the stairs and then ran back, realizing he hadn’t changed. So Papyrus was with Grillbz—oh. He’d missed the broadcast. Sans brushed aside his sadness and changed as quickly as he could.
“SANS!” said Papyrus as soon as he walked into the kitchen. He looked like he hadn’t slept well, Sans thought. “Mornin’ bro. S’good to see you.” “GrillbZ toLD me I shoUlD Stay wiTh You?” “Were you planning on leaving? I mean, I won’t stop you if you want to, but I’d rather you not. You just got back.” “welL AlrighT. I, I gueSs It’s oK? i’ll neEd to ChEck.” “Naturally,” said Grillbz, beginning to flip a row of eggs. “How many for you, Sans?” “Two.” “Boring.” Grillbz finished flipping the eggs, and reached for two more. “He eaTs too much,” remarked Papyrus, then flinched. “I’M sorRY! I MeAN I Don’T CAre, iT doESn’T mATTeR?” Grillbz laughed and shrugged. “I mean you’re not wrong.”
There was a brisk and unnecessarily loud knock on their door while they were cleaning up from breakfast. It was Undyne, and Sans was instantly relieved. He didn’t know her very well, but he’d heard good things. She was a Captain, the highest-ranking Monster in the Guard, and she was obsessed with ‘order,’ constantly saying that things would be better for everyone if the humans and monsters could just cooperate. She seemed to believe it too. Possibly a bit insane, but it wasn’t a bad kind. She held her monsters to a high standard but as long as they lived up to it she didn’t abuse them. She talked with them briefly, and brushed off Papyrus’ questions about staying with Sans and Grillbz with a “yeah I kinda figured.” “So it’S oKAy?” “Yep. Come along, kid.”
They watched the two of them leave, Papyrus trotting at Undyne’s heels, occasionally looking back at them. Grillbz rested a hand on Sans’ shoulder, pulling him close. “I missed the broadcast,” he said regretfully.   “Heh.” “...I didn’t tell him.” “I know. I never meant to.” “No, not about that, about us.” “What about—oh. Oh geez. Oh yeah. I should probably tell him.” “You’ll do it?” “Yeah I should, heh, I’m his brother. Oh man. What do I say?” “Hm. ‘Hey, Papyrus, your two favorite people fell in love while you were gone.’?” “...I don’t know if I can say that.” “Why not?” Sans looked up at him and grinned. “Eh don’t get me wrong egg-warmer, I’m not ashamed of you, I just.. dunno how to explain that to Papyrus.” “He’s not a child, Sans.” “I know! I just can’t imagine looking him in the face and aaagh. Telling him. It’s not something I’ve done before. Give me a couple days to get used to it, I’m still adjusting to him being back, and now I have to think of what to say.” Grillbz kneaded his shoulder, smiling. “Alright.”  His smile darkened. “...you may have a point, it might upset him to find out too quickly. He needs to feel comfortable first.” “So no smoochies in front of the lil bro.” “...I would assume not? Why, were you planning on it?” “Not particularly, no, but I can put ‘gross out Papyrus with PDA’ on my bucket list if you’d like.” “Our bucket list, hopefully, assuming you don’t go find some other PDA partner.” “As if. You are literally the hottest guy I know.” Grillbz gave a disappointed sigh, but he was grinning.
It took Sans more than a couple days. They adjusted quickly to having a household of three again. Papyrus was out on patrol most days, sometimes into the night, but it was good to have him back when he was there, although he seemed nervous and flighty. Sans hoped he’d be able to calm down soon. He didn’t know how to help him.
Sunday he was out on his usual buying run, chatting with Lucy—a fluffy white dog he’d known since they moved to Twelve—when he noticed one of the human Guards staring at him. He was standing with Markin, one of the regulars at the cafe, but Sans barely recognized him. He’d been there once or twice, maybe, he thought, with others. He mentally ran over what he’d been saying to Lucy, trying to decide if he’d said anything risky. No, it had all been completely innocuous. “Y’think they’re watching me?” he said quietly, slipping it in at the end of an anecdote about the annoying crows that had moved into the neon letters of the noodle house. Lucy laughed and nodded, not missing a beat. “Oh yes.” “Cool. Thanks—I’d better get back, then, before I start dropping eggs, Gribz might not be eggstatic about that. Seeya.” He slung his carry strap over his shoulder and started down the street with his load thumping against his femur. The air was smoky with a haze of dust particles from the plains beyond the fence mixed with ice and freezing steam which hung sluggishly in the cold air. He wondered if they were following him. If they were, the best thing he could do would be to pretend he didn’t know. He couldn’t teleport. They’d catch up with him eventually, and then they’d know he had magic and things would be ten times worse for him. He kept walking at a slow, easy pace. He was about fifty yards down the street, and starting to hope he was OK, when two taller forms appeared close behind him. He stopped and glanced up at Markin, smiling. “Heya.” “You’re under arrest.” “Ah geez, really?” He set his bags down and tried to think of a handcuffs joke to distract himself from his rising panic.
It was late evening when Papyrus knocked on the door to the cafe, and it opened almost immediately. Grillbz wasn’t looking at his face at first, more at the level of his lower ribcage, then he looked up, visibly disappointed. “Oh. Hello.” He stepped aside and Papyrus silently came inside, feeling shamed. “Did you see Sans?” asked Grillbz, and Papyrus forgot everything else. “nO. He’S NoT bACk YEt?” Grillbz shook his head. “He’s been gone for more than four hours.” Papyrus stared. Grillbz forced a faint chuckle. “He’s probably talking to someone, he... loves to talk.” Papyrus didn’t say anything to this. A moment later, they both jumped at a knock on the door. It was Lucy. “Did Sans get back?” she asked. “No,” said Grillbz, “Why, did you see him?” “Yes, I was talking to him before he started back, but that was hours ago. Some of the humans were looking at him funny.” “Humans. What kind of humans, kid punks or Guards?” “Guards.” Grillbz made a distracted motion with his hand, then turned and half-sprinted into the back. Papyrus was staring at Lucy. “thEy ToOK HiM?” “I mean..” she wrung her paws. “I don’t know? I didn’t see, I was trying to keep an eye on them but then they disappeared while I wasn’t looking. It did look like they were following him. And, I don’t know where else he’d be...” Grillbz reappeared, yanking his coat on over his arms, and blazed past them out into the night, leaving Papyrus with a vacant look and Lucy shouting “where are you going?!”
He didn’t know. He didn’t know where they had taken him, and if he did, what would he do, go stand outside a window and get shot? But he stayed outside, searching every street Sans might have taken in case he’d just sidetracked and gotten delayed somehow, until his body ached with the cold, then slowly headed back, telling himself Sans might be there, with Papyrus, safe. Not alone and completely cut off from help and abandoned in some darkened cell where he’d never find him. When he got back the cafe lights were still on. Papyrus was sitting in a corner, staring down at his hands, which were folded on the tabletop in front of him. Grillbz shut the lights off and coaxed him upstairs.
A/N: it’s ALMOST done finally! I think maybe one more chapter-thing? I was not planning for this to turn into this long drawn out project I was just gonna finish it quick... just like all my other WIPs hahaha...ha... *sweats*  c’est la vie
