dropping my utdr headcanon/theory right here right now

so we can all agree that the red soul isn't supposed to represent determination, right? its soul trait has not been stated. well, my proposal is that the red soul is the Holy soul trait.

my first piece of evidence: in undertale, the legend of deltarune is that an angel will descend from the surface and the underground will go empty. this is self explanatory, really; angels are holy. frisk and chara are holy.

secondly, in deltarune there are a bunch of links to the word holy. ch1 has a song called THE HOLY; from what we've learned about elemental pairs there is a holy element; and the monsters have a religion and a church which a future chapter may take place in. oh and toriel says hell /j

three: it's not a normal soul trait. we can infer that the six other souls are more common, and we've seen that the players soul can be turned those colours (except for orange and cyan, which are still battle mechanics). this would explain why "holy" doesn't fit the pattern of human souls representing personality traits. the only time we see red magic in undertale is frisk and charas soul as well as asgores trident. asgore is the king of monsters, and this may be a stretch but monarchs are considered to be religious figures because of divine right.

fourth, in deltarune, the soul is a connection between the player and gaster and chara, who all exist outside the game. holy beings exist outside of this world, and 'play god', as the player does in undertale and gaster and chara as well in deltarune.

finally: the pope has a copy of undertale. this isn't a piece of evidence I just think it's funny that holiness is connected so deeply to undertale that it extends to reality

so yeah I've had this headcanon in the back of my head for months, but never had the time to articulate it. that's my two cents on the red soul goodbye

ok this is an edit because I found more references to the red soul after a few replays of deltarune (I don't like reblogs because it means less people will see the additions and more will see the OG post):

• king literally calls the fountains "holy fountains" and we already know that the fountains and the soul are linked

• I don't know how I forgot to mention this but either kris or noelle is referred to as an angel by spamton (he didn't specify who he was talking to)

• the motif of apples

• the motif of the number 7

• spamton continually references heaven, God, and angels. he's implied to be connected to gaster who I've stated is comparable to a divine entity

• kris owning red horns similarly to a demon; they have been shown to reject the possibly holy soul like how demons are unholy

• monarchs being so important to both undertale and deltarunes stories, since the main final bosses in neutral and pacifist are all royalty. this ties into what I said about Asgore being somewhat holy because of divine right

• you only get this tidbit from one optional line of dialogue from father alvin but the lightners in hometown literally worship an angel??? like that's so important how did I miss that

• God is literally a character in undertale (the annoying dog) who resides in a room that you can only enter through perfection of the end credits. the credits are purgatory and if you're good then you can go to heaven where God resides. he also shows up in deltarune ch1 where he's programming the next chapter in the computer room, but I can't really find a religious parallel there

• king and queen worship(ped) the roaring knight, which is a parallel to worshipping fake idols

NEW ART !? It's more likely than you think !

I've redesigned Léa's Magical form again, but this time around I've actually colored (& shaded) the whole thing ; I'll share more of my process under the read more.

So this is Léa's old Magical form, or at least the last art of it I had completed before the 2024 version :

I was going for a fancy, somewhat ouji inspired outfit that'd still be comfortable to wear, as Léa Acorn's style is all about being cute yet comfy. Their body saw no change from their regular form.

I think I was already not fully satisfied with this design by the end of 2021, but as time went on my list of grievances kept growing longer. I started to dislike how much of the design was pure white ; it's not really something I like on Magical Girl designs but for some reason I included it here, probably because I was trying to branch out and take inspiration from series like Lolirock & Pretty Cure for once. I also ended up finding the jacket kinda dumb, or at least the way it fit on top of the shirt seemed off. I had no idea how to color the shoes when I drew this design and it was bugging me more and more over time.

But while I fell out of love with the outfit, my main grievance was the staff-paintbrush-scythe hybrid, which was not only drawn poorly but also pretty boring. I couldn't help but try to redesign it just a month or two after completing the new ref, but I didn't want to redo the whole thing as back then I still made my refs in Microsoft Publisher with the help of Photofiltre, which was a slow and painful process I dreaded.

So between my laziness, art block and the general state of my life I wasn't able to complete any new design before this year (2024). Let's break down this new design, shall we ?

This was my main inspo board this time around :

As you can see I kept the lolita/ouji influence but added some streetwear elements to it. I felt like the previous design didn't do a great job showcasing the mix of preppy prince & comfy fashion Léa are supposed to encapsulate, so I brought up pictures of a character that had only influenced their story and personality so far : Sora from Kingdom Hearts !

It's not something I bring up a lot anymore, but I used to be well-versed in Kingdom Hearts lore and Léa's story was heavily influenced by it ; they were even supposed to fight with a keyblade at one point ! Design-wise, I borrowed the length of Sora's shorts/jumpsuit for Léa's bloomers, and replaced their cropped suit jacket by a short-sleeved hoodie (which also mirrors some of their Sonic.exe world designs). I mixed these elements with lolita items for a cuter look.

Léa share my love of ties, so I've replaced their bow tie by a regular one ; it's somewhat short to showcase their shirt, which is a revamped version of the old one.

For the legwear I took inspiration from some long flowy legwarmers I saw in a few fairy kei coords, and also the shoes from this CocoPPaDolls screenshot I've taken years ago, back when the game was still up :

And of course I needed the shoes to be velcro LED shoes, because that's just the Léa Acorn way.

The rounded pink heart-shaped gems throughout the outfit were somewhat inspired by Amulet Heart from Shugo Chara.

Talking about gems, time to talk about the staff ! It was inspired by Amulet Spade's paintbrush, some Lolirock items, and a bunch of bootleg Magical Girl wands. Why reference bootleg wands, you might ask ? Well, since they're already off compared to the real deals, they allow me to not design wands that are too similar to ones from well-known properties.

I've been meaning to make Léa's eyes pink in their magical form for years but didn't actually follow through for a while. I ended up making their eyes brownish pink to not make their eyes too light, as I felt like it'd remove some of their charm (I already felt guilty for not keeping their eyes brown in this form). And of course, I had to bedazzle their eyes to hell and back.

Actually all this shininess and sparkling was inspired by the original drawing of Léa's Magical Form drawn all the way back in 2017 and redrawn in 2018 :

For some reason I took a lot of inspiration from Sailor Moon for these despite Léa's role being inspired by Card Captor Sakura (and Kingdom Hearts). Also Wish Gems used to be called "Magical Chaos Emeralds" and look just like the regular Chaos Emeralds, which was kinda dumb. But I loved the energy of these pieces so I've tried to recapture the "sparkly pink magical transformation void" vibes they had ; I hope I've succeeded on that front.

Chara, lying down: I was more like a disappointing pet to my dad. He wasn't afraid to beat me down or cut me up with beer bottle glasses. I got away from all that, was a poor influence on Asriel. A lot of what happened to me was because mom died at birth.

Chara, thinking: Then, everything got worse. Met my wife in the worst way possible. That was-

Gage: around the second reset, Frisk was being tormented by Flowey, and their own depressive outbursts made them kill

Chara: ... I don't like how you know that, but yes. I think things really only got better around Middle to Highschool. Though, I do have a great family to thank for that. What about you?

Gage: I am... just a metaphor for a writer and creativity.

Chara: you do have your own story though. What's with the glowing cloak you got? Why does water not caress your hippie face?

Gage, thinking: ok. When I was around 16, my mom died. My siblings left house with little contact, and it was my dad, me, and my little sibling. Course, some of my own history is a representation of my creator's history through different lenses because-

Chara: Backstory, not explaining the backstory

Gage: Right. Well, I had fights with my dad. Not all that pleasant. It caused me to be stressed at night and filled with paranoia in my own bed. So I took night walks. One night, I took a longer walk than usual. I'm walking back home and I notice something unusual

Chara: what was it?

Gage: ... I have no idea. I just woke up and felt like energy was pumping through my body. Enough energy that I accidentally started a fire by flicking it onto my books and put it own with a flood on accident.

Chara: so, you just woke up with powers?

Gage: it wasn't just powers, it was an infinite expanse of energy. Once I realized that, I tried forcing it to make me remember but then I passed out from the agonizing headache I just gave myself. I can force myself to remember other things, but this? Nope.

Chara: that's dumb. Sounds like you just didn't know what to write for it.

Gage: to be honest, I had several ideas. An eldritch god that I couldn't comprehend but seeing it alone gave me power. A magical fairy well I accidentally drowned in, and was transported home entrenched in power. Dave from accounting. Maybe it was the amount of options alone or a truly infinite collide of options, and that's why I can't remember

Chara: still sounds kinda dumb. So you just got better at controlling the energy

Gage: I did dumb shit with it. Rewritten history so my last name is Fandom, made a cloak with a universe in it, made a bunch of timelines for no one to see

Chara: so I guess you made me? God is real, but I'm not gonna pray to you

Gage: well, I made this separate version of you. In a canon sense, the original timeline abruptly ends.

Chara: Original?

Gage: well, there are certain facts in the game that indicate that the original timeline and most true ending to the game is the one where... everyone dies and the world is permanently lost

Chara: ... those unlucky bastards. Well, I guess that's just another version of me that didn't have time to learn

Gage: most people assume the worlds run off code

Chara: well, you said game. Does my world run off code?

Gage: I think it's more a script

Chara: ... huh, that explains that...

Chara: hey, what other universes are there?

Gage: oh, there are as many as you can imagine

Chara: really?

Gage: actually, properly speaking there is so much that even if you perceive chances to be lower than 1% everything is an absolute guaranteed value with not only that this timeline replicated more than trillions of times, but it's replicated by every atom in existence and by every point in time in existence to a point where it's truly an infinite circumstance to have this one universe existing again and again with the same exact events and same exact people.

Chara: ... what?

Gage: there is more than anyone can properly comprehend. Even myself.

Chara: you just rambled there, so I didn't really get it

Gage: why are they lit with an orange light?

So... what's there to say about sneaky?

ok SO. none of this is set in stone because they're a character im planning to use in an rp but I have a pretty clear idea of how their character arc will go and I think it's super cool

to start with basically they were not the greatest person before they fell into the underground. not evil by any means but the kind of kid who has been watching next video in their youtube recommended so long they've learned a lot of unexamined shit and developed a super abrasive personality mirroring the behavior of hypercompetitive gaming streamers and such

but they don't go right for nm! not at all! they do a pretty chill first run through undertale, not a pacifist neutral run but not going out of their way to kill anybody either. flowey offers to help them figure out what went wrong and they go back to the beginning. in fact the first whole bunch of runs are essentially what you might consider flawed pacifist runs. flowey hasn't yet figured out he's going to take Every monster SOUL eventually anyway, he's mostly thrown his lot in with this kid he considers a kindred spirit, so he's sort of testing as he goes whether there's an ending that satisfies both of them and what that hinges on. and far be it from him to assume killing a couple people is a dealbreaker at this point, since it always gets different results.

(here is as good a place as any to toss in that sneaky's undyne, cap, and sneaky's alphys, al, are somewhat reset aware, further complicating things. they don't remember resets, but they're able to tell that things have been reset because the wider rp settings keeps progressing without their universe and isn't being reset. so part of why the results are always so different is the two of them are trying to figure out what's going on with the human.)

this is where the corruption arc sort of roots. the effort to try more things and get more results leads into an urge to explore every possible outcome, even ones that are clearly Worse, in a flowey-like way. they fall very quickly into the mindset that this is all a game and stop wanting to get out for good before they've gotten any secrets it has to offer. flowey is more than happy to encourage them to play with him forever and starts suggesting they go down certain routes he's found particularly interesting, mostly being the named routes from irl undertale (which in a more narrative setting like this are only a fraction of the possible endings) like King Mettaton and Depressed Undyne and Dog Ending etc etc. it becomes clear that they don't really face consequences since for each lost run where the monsters do avenge their dead there's a minute pathing adjustment that can be plotted to avoid that, so they desensitize themselves to killing, since it can always be reset away.

then flowey notices that if they kill a lot in the RUINS, they start behaving Differently. he recognizes and/or projects chara, so he suddenly has a lot of skin in the game and wants to investigate it more. sneaky finds this Boring, since they don't notice a difference and anyway they're not one of the characters they're investigating. they have their first major quarrel since the first handful of runs and remind flowey that they're the one in control and he's just their guide, possibly by killing him and resetting. flowey obviously takes this badly, since to him they were equals and friends, so he decides to manipulate them into doing a real no mercy run.

even from there it takes a bunch of resets, because sneaky is interested in breaking off the run to explore all the aborted and incomplete variants and flowey knows that he has to give them breaks because he's been down this road before and knows it's easy to burn out on these runs because they objectively suck, okay, he never did them because he liked the runs themselves just because he liked what they gave him access to do in other runs. so by the time they reach the point of no return in waterfall and proceed to the Undying fight cap and al have a lot of the pieces in place about what's going on and why.

this turns out to be vital because, for the first time, sneaky cannot beat a boss fight. they try a few different variants on the run, but as long as they fight undyne on the bridge and not at the arch, they can't win. their patience and tolerance for anyone and anything stopping them, thin as it was, has been completely eroded, so they throw everything they have into the fight believing that eventually, undyne will stop coming back. they get to a point where there's no break in the fighting--theyre right on top of sneaky's save point and undyne just survives every hit, so they're in like a thirty second time loop of literally just fighting.

and then, through the power of determination and love for the world and character development that isn't part of sneaky's story, undyne breaks through it. she uses red magic and her spear to shatter the FIGHT button the same way asgore can shatter the MERCY button. it's a risky move since this is reciprocal--doing this means just killing sneaky is not an outcome to the fight anymore. but it pays off and sneaky's ability to attack for damage is destroyed.

obviously they'll just reset and do something differently so they don't run into that fluke again though, right? woops, turns out that resetting without their FIGHT button just makes that permanent. so now they have to adapt to not being able to kill at all or die. flowey could not possibly be more pissed with them too since this means his whole subtle plan to bring out the chara in them is fucked forever. and to top it all off they're not even that good at surviving fights on their own so they NEED to depend on friends to make it through to the barrier and leave for good now because this game is NOT fun anymore. they're really lucky that cap has just had a whole arc about befriending and accepting frisks.

it is super not easy to get sneaky safely across the underground and it takes a couple of runs just to do it without anybody getting hurt even then. along the way they apply their mindset of having every outcome at their fingertips through resets towards helping people rather than exploring their worst agonies and become close friends with the usual suspects, who help them piece together the information needed to do a perfect true pacifist run, including a successful final confrontation with flowsriel.

time to waltz off into the sunset with a polaroid that definitely doesn't have any large red Xs on it right? nope. cap and al rope them into the rp scenario and they have to UGH help and save spacetime with UGHHH other universes including frisks who were more suited to the whole angel thing and UUUGHHH they don't even get any reset powers to do it with. the major significance of this is that that's where they get the nickname Sneaky, to differentiate them from other frisks.

and that's pretty much all the things I know about them! by the end they've sloughed off a lot of their more obviously floweyish behavior but they still fall back on seeing the world as a game they're competing in and have to Git Gud at, but in a more multiplayer way where people are more than just variables. they can't hit anyone with any more than a gentle tap or use any weapons or otherwise FIGHT, but they aren't by any means entirely unable to hurt people; environmental damage isn't magically prevented or anything so they can pull some looney tunes shit if they have to and won't hesitate to remind people of it. their favorite ut main is Alphys because they feel she manipulates the world to get by in a similar way to how they do now and therefore that she has the best and most optimal approach to life (and she's even also terminally online). they don't really dislike any of the most important monsters because they're all sort of On Their Side and have helped them figure out how to live without their FIGHT button but if they had to pick a least favorite it would be sans, since from their perspective he was never particularly interesting since they never reached a point where he had to intervene. they do still mistrust flowey too and that feeling is mutual for their flowey, who feels they gave up a perfectly good thing by losing to undyne. their situation with chara is less of a haunting and more of a reincarnation, but they don't understand it very well and never will since they associate tapping into that part of them with their worst runs. all in all not a perfect outcome but accepting an okay one was always kind of the point

Can you explain what you mean with misinterpreting Chara? I've always been confused about that character and you seem to have a pretty solid read you alluded to in that post about Snowgrave.

of course!!! as your local chara defender since the ripe age of 13 i hope you don't mind me doing a small essay on this. please bear with me tho because i sometimes can't articulate my thoughts well on stories that deal with philosophical themes ;;

UHHH SPOILERS FOR UNDERTALE AND DELTARUNE CHAPTER 2 BELOW

first let me make a few things clear so i don't have to repeat myself a bunch:

only tobias radiation fox himself has The Word of God privilege when it comes to things that haven't been explicitly confirmed in the games yet, EVEN if they're strongly hinted at. don't take anything i say about the plot as more than firm personal interpretation based on the info we have right now!

i cannot stress this one enough: undertale is a game that was never meant to be experienced from a singular perspective/mindset. the genocide route doesn't JUST exist for the sake of "enjoy your personalized edgy fuck-you run for being a serial killer in a video game", every one of the total 93 endings (look it up) in this game exists to reflect the player who achieved it in one way or another. the genocide route is really no different from any of the others, because in the end, no matter what, the player who decided to go through with the things they did will ALWAYS be rewarded for it. the question the player will have to ask THEMSELF afterwards is "is this what i wanted?"

OK MOVING ON-

let's think back to the little but vital amount of info we have on who chara actually was, like, as a person. we know pretty much all of this due to 1) the tapes in the royal lab 2) asriel's additional dialogue at the end of true pacifist.

while we'll never really know why frisk fell into the underground, asriel tells us explicitly about chara's hatred for humanity, and how they jumped from mt. ebott for "not a very happy reason"; supposedly a suicide attempt. chara "never talked about why", it's left intentionally vague because their reasoning isn't really what matters. what DOES matter is how this is relevant to the genocide run, ESPECIALLY with the new obvious parallels in deltarune's snowgrave route. i'll get to that.

when you finish the genocide route, chara will talk directly to the player in person. they talk about your (you AND chara's) success, despite "their plan (having) failed". this "plan" is one they secretly made with asriel when they were both still alive, as revealed from the tapes. chara got terminally poisoned from eating buttercups (whether this was fully intentional or not is still kiiinda up for debate), and while on their deathbed, asriel says that he doesn't like the plan anymore. yet despite his fear, he still fused his soul to chara's when they died.

the actual plan here was to become a monster powerful enough to slaughter humanity, specifically chara's home village by their own dying request - this all ties into their mysterious spite and hatred mentioned before. but due to asriel's resistance against chara, their fused body was killed by the humans - which eventually led to the creation of flowey, and asriel's inner demons after death.

but back to the genocide route. during chara's monologue to the player, they give us a LOT of important exposition. basically:

at the very start of the game, frisk's own determination is literally what brought chara's soul 'back to life'. we know how human and monster souls are different and how "determination" in this universe is something only humans possess, so it makes sense why it awakened them. i won't get into the whole narrator theory because i feel like it's not that relevant to my point (it's fun tho), but chara is always present from the moment frisk falls down, and stays regardless of the player's actions.

if you managed to finish undertale at all you'll already kinda know this (thanks sans), but the EXP and LV you (can) gain throughout your journey aren't just numbers on your screen - they're genuine in-universe manifestations of power that increase when you kill someone. and in genocide, chara explains how they were directly affected every time your stats rose. they could FEEL their spirit growing stronger for every life you decided to take (REMINDER THAT THE GENOCIDE ROUTE CAN BE PERMANENTLY STOPPED AT ANY POINT BEFORE SANS. YOU DID THIS.), so is it really that strange that they felt the desire to grow even stronger?

and once you do reach this point, there's no return. all that excessive time and effort you put into killing off a civilization OBVIOUSLY has some consequences. the consequences HERE being - if you paid attention to chara's life story - you took advantage of a traumatized child who was already at the breaking point and making irrational choices on their own, and you led them to believe that this was what they needed!

this is VERY MUCH SUPPORTED by the snowgrave/weird/pipis/whatever route of deltarune chapter 2 that was discovered about 2 days ago as i'm writing this. i'm gonna go ahead and assume you know what happens in it and i don't care to go into details if you don't, since this post is about chara, but surprise: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO NOELLE, TOO! even in a completely normal run, noelle makes it clear multiple times that she wouldn't mind staying in the dark world; that in spite of how scary and dangerous it seems at times (something something horror movies), she started to feel at home. POSSIBLY even more so than her ACTUAL HOME, with her dying dad and negligent mom. like chara, noelle is a young person with low self esteem and her fair share of trauma, even if it's not as apparent. and like in the genocide run, the player's desire to ruthlessly kill in order to grow stronger affected her already-poor mental state.

someone else already pointed this out specifically, so don't credit me for it, but the main difference between chara and noelle is that noelle managed to break free in the end.

if you're like Most People Who Played The Genocide Route Back In Like 2016 and you played the genocide route with no further knowledge about it than "i have to follow these specific steps to get a harder fucked up version of the game", i don't blame you. you didn't actually know what you were doing in the end, did you? but did the outcome disappoint you, make sense to you, or did it just leave you with an empty/confused feeling? i love undertale because it WILL force you to think about things like that. i mean, if the result wasn't gonna affect you in SOME way, why would you go through all of that trouble in the first place? you had your reasons, as the player of any video game where you know your choices matter. would you have carried out the entire thing if you knew what was coming? the answer to that is only relevant to yourself.

when your hands wrap around his neck, your fingers playing with the hair at the nape of his neck, or your head settling into the crook of his shoulder, he’ll lean into your touch, encouraging you to continue, knowing that in the past you may have shied away in fear of bothering him 

though he may not say it in so many words, ushijima loves the way that you crave physical attention, and does all he can to return it and encourage you to seek it as much as you desire 

when you come up behind him, wrapping your arms around his waist and leaning your head against his back, he turns in your arms, his hands going to the small of your back as he pulls you into his chest, his head going to rest against yours 

he always waits for you to pull away first, never wanting you to feel like you’re bothering him with your affection because he truly adores it 

he has a hard time initiating it himself outside of small gestures like giving you his hand when he knows you’re anxious, or resting his hand on your shoulder or at the small of your back -- gestures to remind you that he’s always there to support you  

he is immensely grateful of the fact that you’re physically affectionate

every time your hand finds his, or your arms wrap around his waist, or you run into his arms, you give him the opportunity to show you how he feels, and he can’t help but fall a little more in love with you each time 

akaashi 

akaashi is an attentive partner and often knows you’re upset or anxious before you do 

when you want to initiate physical affection, he’s ready and there to offer it 

he loves how physically affectionate you are, as it gives him the opportunity to relax and stop worrying about the countless things that are running through his head and focus on his favorite thing: being with you

when he feels your fingers running through his hair, or the soft press of your side against his as you peer over his shoulder at the book he’s reading, he can’t help but smile, pulling you in and placing a gentle kiss to your forehead, his arms wrapping around you as he moves what he was working on in favor of directing all his attention to you 

for akaashi, like ushijima, it’s in the little things 

it’s being able to pull you close under the sheets at night as your back rests against his chest, his long fingers intertwining between yours as he brings your knuckles to his lips and presses gentle kisses to each one 

it’s wrapping his arms around your waist and tucking his head into your shoulder as you sit between his legs, a book or video game occupying your attention, but wanting more than anything to feel him there with you too 

he lives for these moments with you, when you lean into his touch, chase the gentle kisses he presses to your lips, or grab his hand when he’s not expecting it 

despite his quiet confidence, akaashi sometimes feels uncertain and insecure about your relationship and your feelings toward him 

it doesn’t happen often, but when it does, the way you reach out to him with the extra lingering hugs and the tight grips around his waist are all it takes to calm the pounding of his heart in his chest 

your touch and presence always remind him that you feel the same way about him as he does about you 

and when you’re in each other’s arms, heads pressed together and hearts beating in tandem, the world falls away and there’s no where else he’d rather be

bokuto is easily the most physically affectionate out of this bunch 

if you’re not initiating it, he definitely is 

this ranges from silly things like linking your arm in his as you walk, him laughing and running as he pulls you to the next activity 

to more emotional moments, like sweeping you up in a hug, your feet leaving the ground as he calls your name excitedly after reuniting with you, whether it’s been a month, a week, or a day 

but when you initiate it, resting your head against his shoulder or cuddling into his side, he can’t stop himself from leaning into your touch, his entire body relaxing

regardless of the scenario, he adores the fact that you are physically affectionate

it never fails to send his heart racing and bring a smile to his face 

it’s a reminder of how perfect the two of you are together 

but more than that, it’s a reminder that he can be fully himself when he’s with you

he’s often struggled with being “too much” for people 

too loud, too weird, too excited, too enthusiastic, too affectionate 

but with you, he knows that he can never be too much

every time that you return his hug with one of your own, his arms tighten around you, firm but gentle, his head shaking slightly because he can’t believe how lucky he is to have you in his life

his twin sister is amelia hunter, his older sister is janet hunter 

his parents divorced when he was 11, and his father left because he couldn’t handle amelia’s transition, and calum is super close with his sister so he didn’t want to be referred to as his father’s name 

so he rebranded, and now everyone calls him calum or cal. if anyone calls him richard he gets suuuuper upset. 

he was pretty popular growing up. his mom owns custard’s last stand so he was always close with her and met a lot of people there

he would take his little league or flag football team to go get free custard after their games when he was a kid, and even when he was in hs, lbr

he was super good at pretty much every sport he attempted, but he was the best at football

he was getting a bunch of D1 offers actually and then his senior year he tore his acl... and bye bye college

he never really told anyone but that like mad him super sad :( and he still gets sad thinking about it but oh well !! life goes on. he really does try to be positive bc he hates feeling angry or out of control.. like it reminds him of the chaos of his parents divorce

hm well skam nl is my favorite and their social media game is trash LMAOOO so generally No but i do feel like remakes who DO have such a good presence kind of elevate the show and i think it’s pretty heartwarmin to see some remakes go sm farther than skam with social media and puttin out educational and IN CHARA resources like skames does this so well and i feel like in that way, the team is really really spreadin skam’s spirit via these resources (like joana’s billion bpd awareness ig accounts and lucas rubio’s yt channel)

tbh there are definitely some duds but probably one of the clips with sana gettin herself into a hole in s4 just bc some were hard to watch cus cringey or yikes .... idk i cant think of others LMAO

season 2 - hm ig noora chasin after william ??

season 3 - bro NOTHINGGG call me a purist but its such a refined masterpiece like the pacing is good the characterization is so good ugh i deadass cant think of anythin

season 4 - i always felt a little ??? w noora being sana’s bff ig bc from s1-s3 it didn’t Feel like they were that close like even in noora’s pov, sana wasn’t really a part of it that much ?? like eva was more of noora’s bff ?? so i feel like it would have made more sense if maybe sana spoke more with chris or vilde bc sana and vilde eventually seemed to get closer esp with kosegruppa and chris has always been by sana’s side ?? idk that always confused me

5. What is your opinion on the cast’s participation on social media? Do you prefer it when the cast aren’t that involved like the Skam cast, or do you like a lot of content like the Fr cast do?

tbh i don’t care much abt the casts LMAOOO if anythin it kind of brings more harm as seen with the harassment axel and maxence get and also can bring more controversy like with irene (which honestly is p sad considerin how much i love skames bc now i feel super :/ watchin it like she shouldve just had private accts at this point)

OOOHHH ugh torn bc i like isak’s pov but also i want even’s so might have to forfeit isak season for even season ....... hm so probs vilde, sana, even, noora (maybe not w william tho) and honestly maybe jonas too ??

8. Are there any moments that you liked in the show that everyone else seems to hate?

IJXDWQOIJJ yes .... remakes-wise, people hate skam nl s2’s last half but i enjoyed it for the most part ... i think the pacing was off for the last ep but personally, clip 50 made up for it and is p god tier imo ..... and also don’t think the first half of ep10 is enough to discredit the entire season bc i rlly loved seeing liv’s pov and have sm fave moments from the season 

but skam wise, omg might get a lil controversial w this one IM SORRY !!! im bein honest and its Just my opinion ok 

personally s2 got me more invested than s1 and i don’t think its a super bad season like i didnt really say many problems wrong with it until i got on tumblr wiejioqjoiqjq i was sort of interested in the questions that the noora/william dynamic brought up which is, as expressed in william’s war speech to noora, that nothing is ever black/white which i feel was a huge message and feeds into the ‘you never know what ppl are going through’ theme of the season ... like i like the idea of someone like noora, who can have a black/white mentality (as seen in the first clip of s2 when she tells vilde that they can’t have the tannin company as their sponsor bc they objectify women or smth but misses the context and what it could mean for the bus monetarily bc shes caught up in bein ‘woke’) having to break out of that and see more than one side ... and i think remakes like skam austin expanded on this idea well like when zoya was like ‘must be so nice being right all the time’ which i Do feel like is an important for youth to know today .... bc i think its so easy to get caught up in the idea of being so objectively right and morally superior that people lose sight of the more nuanced characteristics to life ... (omg long ramble BUT)

also LMAOOOOO this one might be more controversial as it pertains to bench scene s4 ok oops again doNT GOTTA AGREE !! ........ but i feel like the scene had a lot of good intentions ... i was def kind of cringing a bit tho bc i understand the subject’s sensitivity and how these topics are hard to talk about but i genuinely feel like they both made Some points and should listen to each other .... like as Hard and as maybe ‘unwoke’ it is to admit, unfortunately you sort of do have to answer the tough questions bc that way we learn from each other .... and i perfectly understand why some ppl wouldn’t want to do this and i certainly am tired abt havin to answer shit abt my sexuality or stupid male questions abt women but if u dont answer them, people do go lookin for answers still and the internet is such a shitty place that its pretty easy (esp with youtube’s algorithm) to lead you to ignorant ppl and perhaps radicalization .... questions help us to better understand our community and sometimes they can have good intentions too but we have to ask and answer them or else people will make up answers (which ive literally seen and its honestly worse to see fake as shit and UNINFORMED answers bc ppl did not want to ask you or ppl of ur identity, esp when they’re already startin from a place of hate .... but i rather have ppl ask me patronizing questions than have them spread false info bc that can do much more harm in the long run) however i DO think that isak should also consider sana’s side and i sort of wish we saw him conceding more bc they both have smth to learn from one another, like sana shouldn’t just be learnin from isak, isak needs to learn from sana too

omg honestly too much to write here tbh ..... but if it says anythin im (very slowly) in the works of a three part skam essay about basically how skam teaches us to be better humans and how to better treat the people we care about diowjqioj essentially the three biggest themes of the show: you never know what someone is going through so always be kind, always communicate with your friends, and no person is ever alone and i feel like these are definitely rlly good messages to live by (also livet er nå BITCH !!!)

💕 Undertales

pete i owe u my life

*proceeds to write a fucking essay on why i love every single character in undertale*

i love all the characters in undertale. i just love how real they are. how real their motives feel. and how those motives don’t always have to be like “i wanna free everyone” how those motives can be flawed or how those motives can be as simple and genuine as “a lady i don’t know asked me to protect you and i’m honoring that because she likes my knock knock jokes” and how each character is connected in some way, they just feel so natural and real and alive and it brings their world to life as well.

and i also adore the fact that you can’t get to the true ending of the game until you meet and befriend every single one of these characters. it’s the fact that your bond with them is what incites all of these characters to save you. and it’s the fact that they end up being what pushes you onwards, to save them, and save everyone as well.

undertale could’ve just been a game where monsters are trapped underground and you free them someway somehow, but it’s just. so much more than that.

anyways here’s just a few reasons why i love every one of undertale’s characters in no specific order:

alphys

in all honesty, i rlly appreciate alphys’s character. for most of the neutral run, the person you’re getting to know isn’t actually the true alphys. and u end up finding out she was lying to u the whole time, using mettaton to help her fabricate this narrative. it’s so SO fitting that alphys is the one u have to go back for to get the true ending. u end up seeing her tear that persona down bc she wants to better herself. and u end up seeing her admit to her mistakes, and change, and do better. and it’s just, so healthy to see an adult character with all these insecurities who’s avoiding her mistakes actually improve herself.

sans

sans is rlly a wholesome character. it’s so clear that he genuinely cares about everyone in the underground. i mean, look at what happens when u go to grillbyz with him! everyone knows and loves him! he sells hot dogs at his sentry station to monsters, he does stand up comedy at the hotel to keep everybody happy, he starts a fucking pretend concert when ur jamming out with shyren. his entire motivation for not killing frisk the second they left the ruins is bc someone he didn’t even kno asked him not to and “someone who genuinely likes knock knock jokes has an integrity* u just can’t say no to” i’m CRYING. and it’s clear that he’s not the happiest skeleton in the world, all the jokes & puns aside. he had to give up on his past experiments and thusly had to give up on “going home.” dude is stuck in a place he doesn’t belong but he’s doing his best to make his little brother & everyone else around him happy, all while protecting frisk. jeez????

*i also love this line bc both sans & papyrus can turn ur soul blue and the blue soul is integrity.

papyrus

papyrus is also a great character and i’m not just saying that bc he has some of the best lines in the game. also his battle is so fun. it’s the first battle in the game where ur heart turns a different color. this skeleton BELIEVES in u. he believes that everybody is capable of being a good person. i love how he comes out of the gate boasting about how he’s going to capture you and become part of the royal guard but he ends up wanting to be ur friend instead. bc despite how many times he calls himself great, deep down he’s insecure and just wants a cool friend who thinks he’s also cool. yet he still has these great messages about boundaries and how it’s important to have many friends and not just cling to one person. tbh i think that’s one of the best messages papyrus gives, besides the fact that anyone can be a good person. i also love how he lives to not only uplift himself but others as well………

undyne

man i fucking ove undyne’s PERSONALITY, like, the moment i fell in love with her was when she was standing atop the cave and was like “first let me tell u the history of our people………ACTUALLY, U KNO WHAT? SCREW THIS! WHY SHOULD I TELL U WHEN UR ABOUT TO DIE” and there’s just all these close up shots of her face and her theme song is blaring and she like, whips off her helmet and u see her face for the first time but it’s this dramatic shot of her standing on top of a fucking mountain its so ANIME AKLGHDKSLHGDSH. both her battle & her hang out are probably my favorites in the entire game. ITS JUST SO FUNNY LIKE. “undyne clenches her fist and shakes her head.” “undyne thinks about her friends and pounds the ground with her fist.” “undyne suplexes a boulder just because she can.” AND THE DYNAMIC OF HAVING TO RUN AWAY FROM HER AND SHE CHASES AFTER U BUT UR JUST WALKING THE ENTIRE TIME AND SHE FUCKING STOPS WHEN U GET A PHONECALL AND PAPYRUS IS LIKE, in the middle of undyne chasing frisk down to kill them, “hey human! let’s hang out with undyne later!” AND THEN RESUMES CHASING U AFTER UR DONE. she gets too hot in hotland and passes out, but if u give her water then she just. goes home. without saying a word. bc even tho she has been consistently trying to kill u, and u could’ve just left her there, u HELPED her. up till that point she was convinced u were faking kindness. but after that, she realizes ur not a bad person and leaves bc she can’t kill someone who’s not a bad person. her soul mode is literally the color of kindness. i can go on and on, how obvious and cute her crush on alphys is, alluding to how she literally just keeps soda at her place even tho she hates it bc she knows alphys likes it and won’t let u drink it bc that’s for her crush omg. how she teaches papyrus how to cook bc she doesn’t want to tell him that he’s not fit for the royal guard. how much she admires asgore and goes as far to say frisk reminds her of him bc they’re both so kind. and god everything she says after alphys confesses to her that she’s been lying about everything undyne is so FULL OF LOVE FOR HER FRIENDS

HOLY FUCK I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT WHAT UNDYNE DOES IN NO MERCY TOO I’M SCREAMING

THERE’S A REASON WHY THE NARRATION IS SO DIFFERENT DURING HER NO MERCY BATTLE AND WHY NARRATOR CHARA ADMIRES UNDYNE AND THINKS SHE’S THE BEST CHARACTER IN UNDERTALE AND THAT’S BECAUSE SHE IS

(i have a theory that chara, during no mercy, thinks that undyne has the best chance of stopping u which is why they get so excited when she arrives and so upset when she loses. i also just think chara and undyne are rlly similar too, in like. so many ways. also ik i’m going off on like 3 different tangents i’m so sorry to anyone who’s reading this i just get rlly excited about undertale.)

mettaton

mettaton is probably close second for my favorite battle. i honestly love his character and how it never rlly hits u how the whole “evil human killing robot” facade was so obvious until u play again. he’s obvious trying to do what he loves, entertaining people, while being saddled with this task to pretend he’s an evil robot trying to kill you. the reveal that he’s actually a ghost inside a robot is even more like a punch in the gut bc u realize that…alphys never made him. she made him a body, sure, but not him. i rlly like watching let’s players react to his battle bc of what he says towards the end, about how humans have so many actors and entertainers, but monsters only have him. and how much life and happiness he brings to the underground, and how he would leave a gaping void if he were to leave. it’s rlly sweet to see let’s players connect with that moment imho. i also love how he returns home to visit his cousin after their phone call.

speaking of mettaton’s cousin, napstablook is so sweet. ik this post is getting massively long but it wouldn’t feel complete without them. honestly, the fact that after mettaton left, they wanted to start getting to know their other neighbor (undyne) but was too intimidated to talk so they started making her a mixtape which is just a bunch of dudes screaming their signature wrestling moves is so fucking adorable and hilarious. also the fact that they just straight up avoid the apocalypse by not answering when it knocked on their door.

toriel……..is my mom. enough said.

ok no i lied not enough said. dude how heart breaking was it learning that all the kids she tried to protect in the past ended up leaving her and getting killed by her fucking ex-husband’s order?? hello???? and that she was so desperate to not lose another child that she was going to destroy the exit to the ruins, which would mean she would never be able to hear another knock knock joke from her only fucking friend (sans), and she would just be stuck in the ruins forever bc she’s goddamn immortal. i’m gonna CRY.

asgore

i like how asgore is written, i don’t like his actions tho. i definitely love all the build up to him, the parallels, how he’s always painted as a nice guy and every character tells u to talk to him, but the second u get to him he destroys ur mercy button and ur left with no choice but to fight him or get killed. new home & onwards is when undertale’s storytelling is at its strongest, is what i personally think. asgore definitely plays a part in that.

flowey & asriel

flowey & asriel are such complicated characters idek if i can summarize what i think about them but i guess all i’ll say is i’m just happy with how undertale treated the both of them.

frisk

me when it’s revealed that they’re their own person and not the player or chara

ok finally on to the character who, if i had to pick one to be my favorite, would claim that spot.

i will admit. i am a big chara stan. :pensive: i personally think they’re the most relatable and interesting character in undertale. i also hate how they’ve been treated by the fandom, like they’re evil. i think it’s undeniable that they are the narrator in all paths in the game. they are woken up by frisk’s determination, after all!

of course, with the true ending, u help their brother gain closure on losing them, proving both chara & asriel that the idea of “kill or be killed” is wrong, and then helping them finish the plan that they both failed- destroying the barrier and freeing the monsters. then flowey encourages chara (and indirectly, the player) to not reset and to let frisk live their life, which chara does, unless the player decides to start a new game.

the one thing i just rlly like about chara tho is that they’re always encouraging u, making all these silly puns, jokes, quips, providing advice and tips on how to spare monsters- like they r rlly invested in helping frisk. it’s clear they’re a good person. they knew almost every monster in the underground. they’re incredibly smart. they’re a big fucking nerd and into anime. they liked gardening to the point of having a gardening knife specifically for cutting plants. they cared about their family so much that they had bff necklaces with their brother, they knitted a sweater for their dad, they loved their mom so much they talk like her. but they’re not a flawless character. they’re coded as a mentally ill abuse victim. they hated humanity, they ran away to a place where people are said to never return. when they messed up, they got so upset that they laughed to cope. they’re flawed, but their brother idolized them so much. and on top of this all they had this pressure on their shoulders that they were “the future of humans and monsters.”

but their plan failed, and it was either kill or be killed by the humans attacking them. and u all kno how that ended. :(

i guess in a way that’s kinda why i think chara and undyne are rlly similar. they’re both incredibly determined, they both wanted to free the people they cared about, they both had a loved one who didn’t want to hurt people, they both shouldered this huge responsibility, and they both would not hesitate to hold ur ass responsible if u ended up doing some awful shit.

Hamano Kaiji

He was like the first big fave! It wasn’t instant but it also wasn’t like... Late... I love this boy! He’s so gentle and nice and just a happy bab overall! He’s just the most precious thing

Hayami Tsurumasa

Ok so my brother mixes up how come I started liking Hayami with how come I started liking Kurama. But it was really weird. Like, I saw him around in fanart with Hamano a lot, and Hamano was the Great Big Fave, and I liked Hayami’s little moments enough so I just started putting him as a big fave until I played the games and that became just The Most Genuine Feeling. He’s just a big cutie (seriously, how tall is he?) and I want to see him grow up healthy and happy

Anyways- I don’t remember what got to love this boy when I was little, I guess he was kinda like Hayami, as in, he was with my fave a lot, therefore, a good boy! Oh yeah I also really really really disliked when somebody called him just an Endou copycat like no he is a really strong and powerful boy!!! Also he was voiced by Diana Torres and I love her okay

But now! I saw Tachi in a gif when I rejoined the fandom and went ‘!!!!!!!!!!!!’ like wow I love this boy??? He’s my main goalkeeper in the games and he is doing such a good job! I’m so proud of him! 

Minaho Kazuto

Alright, this one just isn’t fair, he’s an instant fave, it really shouldn’t count but Galaxy proved that it can live up to... Uhhh... Whatever feeling I had towards Minaho, really.

He’s just a huge dork and he is so smart and so good at analyzing but he’s A DORK and he wants to be a detective? Sure buddy I support you! Also owls are my fav birds so!!! I love this boy sob? And he is really fun to draw to! (I mean, who would’ve guessed right? After all, I got most stuff asked to him, at least it was that way at first. Speaking of the blog, not dead! I just lost motivation for a bit :’>)

Kageyama Hikaru

Another instant fave! I am bound to love every penguin baby in existence but Hikaru’s design just is so... Soft? And his voice both Spanish and Japanese is so cute (A reminder that I first watched Go dubbed with my brother, until he decided he didn’t want to watch Galaxy and sometimes I thank him for that because if i had to hear ‘Zippy Lerner’ as often I would... You know... C E A S E) 

But he is so polite? And he had such a good potential! You know what we, as a fandom, deserved? A penguin Keshin/Soul! And you know what Hikaru deserved? A keshin! Or a soul! Can you imagine? Him going to space and finally have something done witht he fact that he’s Kageyama’s nephew? A PENGUIN SOUL? 

Manabe Jinichirou

I had a weird vibe about him, to be honest. It was like, I liked him, but I also was suspicious of him for some reason...? But I somehow got the feeling that I wanted to give him a hug! When I actually watched Galaxy, I got like, really attached to him! I love his character, he’s a cutie!

Kino Aki

I LOVE HER? MY GIRL, MY PRINCESS, my first favorite overall! She is so hardworking and nice and cute! I love her so much! Everytime I see her I just get all smiley! And! Mel made me love her even more! Which I didn’t think was possible! Aaa!

Tsunami Jousuke

Ah yes I ended up adding Tsunami. My heart couldn’t resist putting him on this. After all, he was my favorite for a really long time! I don’t... Remember much about him? But he has this really good really gentle vibe? I just can’t describe it... I should rewatch OG... When I finish CS!

Hiyori Masakatsu (Really? I thought it was Mansakatsu... Don’t know why)

I was convinced I wouldn’t like, LOVE anybody from Ares, but he became quickly a favorite of mine! It was because of his amazing charms and his shark backpack. I love sharks. Sob. I also thought he was a girl. Would’ve been nice to have more girl players. Really admired Rika and Touko when I was little. I like how he is supposed to be the straight man (in inaele? sure bud) but he is goofy as well! I really wanted him to be on Orion, but oh, well.

So what's up with this blog?

This is @joliemariella's undertale specific sideblog! Here I reblog neat Undertale related content I've seen, post Undertale content of my own in the form of fanart and fanfics, and also answer asks for both myself and the main characters from any of my UT fics. Q is the most popular of course, but you can read more about him further down.

Where can we read your fanfics?

Over here on my Ao3 is generally the best bet! I do recommend following me here as well, though! Not only will I post when I update, but sometimes I'll also do sneak peeks, or even tumblr exclusive stuff!

Where can we see your fanart?

Well I have a gallery over on DA, but here on tumblr is a good place too. I tend to only post finished product over on DA, but if you check the jolie arts tag here on my tumblr, you can see my sketches and various silly drawings I don't post anywhere else.

Who all can we send in asks for?

Myself, obviously, but also any of the main characters from any of my fanfics! Just don't expect reaction images for all of them, lol. Any interactions you have with these characters (and the fact that they're answering asks at all) are not canon, but any information they give you IS. Unless they're lying, which some of them are more prone to than others, heh. I'll drop a hint that they're not being entirely truthful if that is the case, though.

I sent in an ask but you haven’t answered it, what’s up?!

My ask count for this blog tends to hover right around 100 no matter how many I answer, and I’m generally pretty good about doing at least a handful every day. That said, I will not answer every ask sent in. I definitely pare them down for the sake of my sanity. Sometimes they’re just silly and not really worth the time. Sometimes they’re boring and/or Q’s already received that exact question a bunch already. Other times they were only really pertinent in the wake of another ask that got answered, and if I wasn’t able to get to it in a timely manner then I’m not going to because the context is now lost. I’ll also sometimes save some asks for later because they just require a little more thought to answer than I’m up to putting into it at the moment. Also, if you send in several around the same time, then I’m not going to just sit and answer all yours in a row, I’ll spread them out over days or weeks.

Side note, questions about the actual mechanics of how Q or his world work are almost guaranteed to get answered eventually because that was kinda the entire point of opening asks for him in the first place, heh.

Nope! If you want to share your headcanons or something that's cool, and I might weigh in on them, but that's as far as I'll go.

Please do NOT do this. While I appreciate the gesture, fanfic of my fics/characters is not something that I enjoy receiving from strangers. There are a couple of people on my extremely short list of individuals I’m ok with writing Q or my other AUs, and trust me, I’ll have straight up told you if you’re on that list.

Q FAQ

Who the hell is this 'Q' and why is he such a goddamn troll?

Q is Quarantine Sans from my Undertale AU, Machinatale, which in turn is the foundation for my fanfic 'Skeleton ex Machina'. SeM is a sister fic to @tyranttortoise amazing fic, "Skeleton Squatters and the Landlady". The very brief backstory for him can be read here. As for why he's a troll, well, lets just say life and the happenings there in have left him a bit salty with a low tolerance for bullshit.

Who else is in this world of Q's?

Everyone that made an appearance in the Undertale game with the exception of Frisk and Chara (For the why of that, read here)! There are a total of 167 souls in Q's world.

Why only 167?

As far as he's been able to discover, that was the total number of characters and killable enemies within the original game. Unfortunately, whatever happened that gave them all life has not given them the ability to create life in turn, or age. It's a phenomenon that Q is investing a great deal of time in hopes of one day giving his people the ability to procreate, and their few existing children the ability to grow up, but it's a puzzle he's yet to crack.

Just how much control does Q have over his world?

It's nigh infinite as far as he can tell, beyond his inability to create new sentience. He's the only system admin so he's able to change anything about the system. There are facets of the citizens souls that he is not able to change, however, no matter how hard he tries. Papyrus still can't cook well, for one, no matter how many cooking programs he installs. Any of the main 'sprited' characters also have trouble maintaining any sort of shift in their appearance they adopt. Unless they pay close attention to it, the programming likes to shift back to their default appearance. Any of the citizens that came from 'random encounter enemies', on the other hand, are able to maintain such changes indefinitely.

Do the monsters in Q's world have souls?

They do! They're not exactly like regular monster souls, however, since they don't technically have magic in Q's world. Read his explanation on it here, or in chapter 5 of ‘Skeleton ex Machina’!

What happened to the seven human souls?

They still exist within Q's world! Read his explanation here.

What happened to the Amalgamates?

They also still exist! A few of them have actually been saved and returned to 'normal', though the bulk of them still exist as they appeared in game. You can read more about them in chapter 2 of ‘Skeleton ex Machina’.

Wait, so why does Q talk like he's already with the Landlady when answering some asks, and like he's still pursuing her in others?

Due to the nature of this blog, Q is answering most of them from the 'present', e.g. from whatever the latest point in ‘Skeleton ex Machina’ and ‘Skeleton Squatters and the Landlady’ is. Sometimes, however, depending on the ask, he's answering from the 'future', e.g. from after the end of Skeleton Squatters and the Landlady in the timeline where he's the one that ends up with the Landlady. (For those of you that don't know, Tyrant_Tortoise is planning to write an ending for each of the main skelebros where they're the one that ends up with Lady, Q included. That way all the readers wind up happy XD).

So who's Grim?

ONLY HIS BFF BRO. Grim was created by my sister, @nighttimepixels, and you can find out more about him over on @skeletonsgrim! He's the kinkiestsweetest skeleton you'll ever meet! He and Q meet in the 'future' after Q's already settled down with the Landlady and put a ring on it cuz he liked it so much and they quickly became best friends because Q is literally one of the only people on the entire planet who can actually see Grim. For all the particulars on THAT, check out @skeletonsgrim, lol. They're best bros and work together on crazy science projects in Q's private lab.

Granblue Fantasy Review

Hiya folks! So today, I’ll review Granblue Fantasy. It was a nice one, although the plot was rather conventional.

Synopsis : In this world of floating islands, Gran is a young man who dreams to become a pilot to meet with his father, who has sent him years earlier a letter from his final destination, the mythical islands of the Astrals. One day, a bright light comes down from the sky. Gran soon finds out it is a mysterious young girl named Lyria, who happens to be able to harness the power of the Primal Beasts, ancient Astral artifacts, and has just escaped an imperial vessel with the help of the lieutenant Katalina. In an attempt of the Empire to bring Lyria back, Gran, mortally wounded, is saved by Lyria, but also ends up bound together with her, forcing him to flee along, but also allowing him to finally go on the adventure that may bring him closer to his father, an adventure paved with trials and new friendships!

My opinion : It was quite a nice trip indeed, even though my brain wasn’t much challenged by this one to say the least. It is, would I say, a simple anime to watch to relax. The plot isn’t especially ground-breaking or complex, it is relatively slow-paced, but it still offers a few very interesting things. One thing that is wort mentionning is that it is adapted from a mobile game by Cygames, and from what I’ve gathered it’s the kind of game where you get a bunch of units and make troops with them, so in the anime they kinda had to make a lot of choices. I haven’t played the game yet though, so I can’t really judge them on that point. The plot is pretty uneventful for those who have already seen at least a few japanese fantasy media (not necessarily anime), but there is one thing in particular that caught my attention : the world. In terms of world building, I was extremely pleased. The first island looks like your run-of-the-mill starting village in RPG videogames, but then every island had a very specific atmosphere, usually consisting of a blend of different cultures sharing traits with the particularity they wanted to express in said island, built to the tiniest details, with different cultures, architectures, products, ambiance, and it was very well done. This may be my favourite part about this anime. I especially remember that time in Auguste when I found... an azuleijo (typical portuguese white ceramic with blue patterns). I would’ve never expected that kinda stuff outside of Portugal, even less on a floating island in some fantasy anime. They must’ve done a lot of research to build this world and it shows. The characters were also... pretty much who they were supposed to be, we got the courageous hero, the cute mascot, the lost girl, the mom strong and valiant female swordsman, the bickering pair... But they still all felt attaching and not necessarily unique, but as if they had their own existence separate from the stereotype. And there also were a lot of secondary characters that were quite nice, and shows how much details the creators desired to bring to the universe, even if those characters would only appear for one scene of one minute in one episode, they really felt like there was something more to them. The only problem would be the bunch of guys they throw at your face at the twelvth episode, it would be a waste to have introduced them if there isn’t going to be a second season. Another great thing in that anime is the simply gorgeous artstyle. Everything is hand-drawn, no shitty CGI in sight save the Primal Beasts, but this here is, would I argue, actually plain genius, since they are not natural, they were created by the Astrals, so they would actually have a reason to feel out of place. My only grievance about that would be Tiamat, since she looks partly human, so we get an especially awful blend of hand-drawn and CGI. And Yggdrasil is also a humanoid, hand-drawn Beast, so it kinda breaks with the concept (and sorta points to the fact that it wasn’t intended). Otherwise, it is really beautiful. Also, though the merits goes to the game developers, the chara designs are usually quite rich and varied. Last but not least, DAT SOUNDTRACK. It fits perfectly every scene, and is so beautiful and... is composed by Nobuo Uematsu? OK. I think I understand now. But that alone would make the show worth watching. Add the beautiful visuals and you will forgive the plot for its forgettability. I would just add one little thing about the very last episode. It is more of a funny alternate reality OVA than an actual episode. In the game you can play as a boy or a as a girl, and here they took the girl character, and made everyone go to Auguste for vacations. So yeah, it’s basically the light fanservice, funny onsen/beach OVA/episode we could’ve expected. Won’t complain, AT LEAST THE BOOBS WERE WELL DRAWN HERE (looking at you, every other stupid fanservice episode ever). But it’s still sad it kinda broke with the rest of the anime, and had the nerve to gie us hope for more info and a proper season closure (hope we will get a season 2)

Grading : Plot : 6/10 pretty much every fantasy anime/JRPG ever, but +1 for world building Art : 9/10 it is simple, some people would complain but it gave me nostalic feelings about old anime. Music : 10/10 perfect fit Final grade : 8/10

Hi hi senpai! B, F, K, M, Q (lol), and Z for the fanfic ask game.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

i’ve obviously been bounded to magical spirit before, befriended a ghoul, went on a ten year journey to find my soulmate, and experienced seventeen thousand irl shoujo moments. it’s it obvious by how realistic my writing is.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

ok so, in general, I’m very proud of all the dialogue in bod and most of my newer fics, it feels very real, engaging and just plain awesome. In my older fics though, i never had much dialogue, but here are two i felt i really outdid myself with:

“Jae-ha, I love you. I have for a very very long time now. I’m sad that you’re leaving. This is very very embarrassing. I will now proceed to run away.”

this one took me forever to think of. gou (oc saying this) was kuudere af. she really changed throughout the fic, but she still had that monotone aspect about her, and was super embarrassed talking about feelings, and i had no away how i was going to make this girl say a heartfelt confession. but then i realized that would never happen bcuz it just wasn’t gou. this one is so much more her and i really liked how it ended up.

“Kame, my dear bambino,” He begins one time when her family’s visits coincides with his,“even though the red strings of fate have tied poor Yuzuru-chan hands to the shinigami’s hand of death, I have full faith she is in a better place,” Kame is more mortified by the waterworks Tsukiyama’s holding back than the actual Shakespearian nonsense he’s spouting. How can anyone fake so much zeal? “Reincarnated as a swan maiden, singing sweet serenades that shake the very core of the earth and spirits of old.”

Tears cascade down his cheeks. Her mother hands him a tissue after dapping her own eyes with her pink handkerchief. Tsukiyama blows his nose noisily. Kame isn’t sure whether or not Kazu-nii is disgusted by that or the Shakespearian bullshit Tsukiyama can drop at every beat. Probably both, “If only,” Tsukiyama takes a moment to compose himself here, “If only death’s embrace hadn’t been so hasty to hold dear Yuzuru-chan close, then perhaps she wouldn’t have had to leave us so young.”

i worked so hard on this one. this was the very time in my life i had to write dialogue for someone so extravagant. i feel the results were superb. 

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

parasitical deal is a fic where i just completely destroyed my oc. i did everything just to kill her humanity and let her become friends with the ghoul who was the one who forced her to do the things that killed her humanity. it’s a bunch of spoilers though, so i’ll just leave it at that.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

i am dying to write a proper ‘nekoma gets a female manager’ fic. i’d also like to write at least one romantic fic in the haikyuu fandom, but i just can’t think of ath. at all. nada. 

Q: How do you feel about collaborations? 

they’re really fun! it’s really interesting experience to write a fic with someone and discuss so many things in depth. though, if you’re collaborating with someone a few timezones before or after you, it can get really tough. probably should not write sth more than 10k. really, don’t.

 Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

ok, so i honestly have barely read fic with character death. not bcuz i’m actively avoiding them or ath, just that… there isn’t much fic with chara death. i don’t think i can say i like chara death, but i really like when it’s used properly, like for realism and stuff. i’ve never really written it myself, bcuz i’ve never really had an idea for it, but i’d like to try it once.

Top 5 emotional video game or anime moments!

OH MAN. This might get spoilery?? I’LL NAME THE SERIES AND ALL THAT BEFORE I REALLY NAME WHAT IT WAS, and also i watch everything 600 years after it’s been out so it’s probably not a surprise.

1. JJBA. Battle Tendency. Caesar. IF YOU DUNNO WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT, YOU CLEARLY HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET. //CRIES INTO HANDS// I cried reading it in the manga. Then the episode came out and to. This. Fucking. Day. I bawl my eyes out. I’ve seen it like, 4 different times. Nope, each time. I’m a sobbing mess. Especially bc Caesar is definitely one of my fave JJBA charas, which says a lot since I’m on Jojolion now!

2. Gintama. Shinsengumi Crisis Arc. I MEAN, A LOT OF SHIT IN GINTAMA HAS GOT ME TO CRY, BUT HOLY FUCK THIS ARC??? Especially the end, with the fight between Hijikata and Itou?? FIGHT WITH HONOR AND SHIT AND IDK HOLY FUCK THAT WHOLE ARC HAD ME WITH SOME SILENT TEARS BRUH.

3. Oyasumi Punpun. OK THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN #1 YOU GUYS. I’M ACTUALLY REALLY SCARED TO REREAD THIS FUCKING SERIES. Let me tell you a story. A couple of years ago, a whole bunch of chapters towards the end came out around Christmas. My family does a Christmas Eve get together every year, for dinner. Early in the day, I decided, oh boy! I’m gonna read the chapters! I cried. I dressed real cute, went to the party. Sat on the couch aND BIT MY LIP, TRIED SO HARD NOT T O CRY. Came home, laid down. Half an hour later, I BAWLED. INTO MY PILLOW. Like straight up, I had to turn the pillow around. Because of. Fucking. Seki. HIS WHOLE... FUCKING... THING GOD I’M SO UPSET.  Idc, Oyasumi Punpun was incredible to read and the wonderful bleak feelings it left me with, this raw realism, it was so fucking refreshing and interesting. Such a roller coaster from start to end. It’ll always have such a strong place in my heart.

4. The Last of Us. THE BEGINNING, WITH SARAH. The first time I played I was like dang, feels bad man. BUT THE SECODN TIME, I SOFTLY CRIED?? HOLY SHIT JOEL, you deserve so much more. And also like, during the hospital scene at the end where he’s like “It’s gonna be ok baby girl” and all that crap?? OR EVEN WHEN ELLIE WAS CAUGHT BY HUNTERS AND WAS KILLING THAT GUY AND HE CALLED HER BABY GIRL FOR THE FIRST TIME?? Idk man that hits hard, he grew attached... :( [btw, HYPE FOR TLOU2!!)

5. Tales of Xillia. IMMA BE THAT PERSON, but honestly this will forever stick with  me. Alvin and Jude’s fight scene. It is literally the defining point of their relationship and their characters as far as I’m concerned. It made the entire game for me. It made me adore those two, as well as love Leia so much. But that’s just my favorite part of the game. Lets talk about Alvin, as a whole. This man catches no fucknig breaks. One part that actually hurt my heart was when [spoiler alerts from here on out!] Milla sacrifices herself, and he looks up and is like... it’s still there. hE CAN’T GO HOME. //THROWS SELF ON GROUND// That look on his face hit me in the gut. Here is this mercenary, tough through and through. And all he wants is to go home with his mom. But he can’t. She fucking dies and he’s all alone. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? EVEN AT THE END, WHEN MILLA IS LIKE lol ok i’m god now. :) Alvin is the only one who is hurt by this?? Jude, yes, but he’s like. I accept, I’m so happy! The world is in better hands! Or whatever, but Alvin. He just found companionship with the others. He found friends and people he can actually trust. But then Milla decides to leave them- just another person to leave Alvin in the cold.

Tbh I’m a very emotional person, these are the first things I could think of? I’m sure if I sat down and looked through my video game collection, and remembered all the manga and anime I’ve consumed, I’d have a ton to share lol.
