My Favourite Pieces of Writing
The Prelude: Stealing the Boat - William Wordsworth
I was first introduced to this through my time in school. This Poem is from Wordsworth's book, The Recluse where he muses about life.
This poem makes me think of times where I have been out with people and have seen the lights on the promenade go out at night, leaving the street in near darkness, if it weren't for the street lamp. It really illuminates and reminds me that although the human race is terrible and horrific, there is natural beauty in the world.
But it also reminds me of how small human beings really are. I used to lie in bed as a child and think about how small I am in the grand-scheme of things. How I am just a momentary consciousness in the universe. Most of the time, I'd scare myself thinking about it and roll over, finding something else to distract myself with.
It's a good example of an existential crisis, as at the end of the poem, the man who stole the boat, can never see the world with the amazing awe and beauty he once had for it.
2. The Spider's Thread - Ryuunosuke Akutagawa
The Spider's Thread details a story of how the Buddha is strolling through paradise and gazes into a pond where he sees Hell. There is a criminal in a pool of blood lying at the bottom of the pond. The Buddha sees that this man did one good act in his life, and moved by it, lowers a spiders thread to save the man from Hell.
This was really my first proper introduction into Akutagawa's writing. I'd only heard about him through Bungo Stray Dogs and knew only of Rashomon. The anime/manga was what really sparked my love in classics.
What struck me about this story, was how cruel and vividly I could picture the story playing out as I read the words on the page. I'd heard that in Japanese Buddhism, they believed that women who did bad things in life would be sent down to Hell and forced into a pool of blood and I can't help but be reminded of that in this story.
Akutagawa has also inspired me into writing short stories more recently.
3. Lady Macbeth's Soliloquy - Macbeth
I have spent a lot of time in performing arts. Growing up, I was always excited when my school decided to put on a play - a break from the boring and mundane sitting at a desk and being forced to memorise useless maths equations I would never use.
I've always thought that Shakespearian English is really pretty and I love this whole speech she gives herself. I can't stop thinking about the lines: 'And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty' and 'And take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers,' This whole monologue is so powerful.

I started drawing this next day after I finished Act 6
13 or so days and it's finished!
Main things are traditional and Loop's body was edited digitally after
Unedited it looks like this
I've been torn on how to do Loop's body for the entirety of lining, also
A bit sad the main lines are visible only as a wip, most of this thing is literally just a ton of sharp lines
I think it's also my first day of drawing, Loop is just a sketch here (feat. my leg)
I even finished the beans before it so they were a moral support, because if you let me things like this take a year

why are people acting like burning man is some bourgeois orgy exclusively for one percenters when tickets for all nine days of burning man can cost significantly less than like, resale tickets for a single taylor swift concert. you can get tickets to burning man for $300 lmfao
i know we all want to pretend that this is another fyre fest but there are like. regular normal ass people who go to burning man. the worst thing about burning man is that it's lame and caters to libertarians and crunchy granola people who smell like patchouli and try to get you to babysit them when they drop shrooms. none of that warrants being left to die of trench illness in a nevada desert.

Postcanon. Mithrun passes away before his brother, but still lives a really long life considering the enormous physical and mental strain his body endured in his younger days. Mithrun left his restaurant to his brother in his will (his brother was paying for significant portion of operating costs the whole time) , and since his brother’s kids are now grown, his brother has passed on his title to them prematurely and decided to retire to live in Melini with his partner. Unfortunately for the new Executive Chef at the restaurant, since Mithrun’s brother doesn’t speak the common tongue, he’s started just going around speaking in Elvish to people all over Melini, expecting them to understand 😭

the canon relationship of Jason and Alfred, is it a bit, idk what the word it, but antagonistic? I’ve seen panels of, post-Jason’s death when the bats are rewriting Jason’s narrative, yk where they’re claiming he was always angry or bad and that Bruce saved him from a life of crime, where Alfred is 100% on board the shit on Jason train. And pre-death Jason panels, I don’t remember seeing much of Alfred ones, just ones of dick and Jason and Jason and Bruce. Was Alfred’s opinion of Jason more or less the same? Fanon rlly warped Alfred&Jason into something near unrecognizable huh 😂
See the issue with Alfred and I've mentioned this before is that he's really just there to be what ever the current writer wants him to be so the way he acts can change drastically depending on who's writing him which means at times he can be nice to Jason even in canon we'll see the two of them bond or there's one time where alfred goes out of his way to save jason but then other times he's talking about jason being horrible and not worth bruces time and it's funny bc it just makes Alfred look worse imo like he's really two faced being nice to Jason's face but then instantly turning around and going ugh disgusting poor person

(probably very problematic opinion on the english voices in totk
watching skittybitty's totk video for the 27864269th time and i STILL get jumpscared by the english voices, anytime anyone ever opens their mouth it just sounds like they took some random person they caught on the street to monotonely voice a line in one take, and sometimes one of them rly likes to pretend their are doing a voice but it just sounds like a little child imitating their granpa or someone trying to overact to their toddler, its especially sad for ganondorf, its hard to hear any of them for me but gan i start laughing and have to skip it bc thats NOT gan, thats me doing my worst evil guy impression, or zelda, thats not zelda talkign thats me doing a sarcastic uwu lil princess voice
to be clear, i have nothing agaisnt the people voicing them and i know people like the guy doing the gan voice but none of them fit at all and none feel like they are actually coming from the character, much more so you muting your TV and talking over the people on screen making shit up as you go for shits and giggles, i dont know what happened here, why are these SO bad, i listen to plenty of movies and games and whatnot in english and i only ever had a similar problem with the english voices of ghibli movies -though that could be bc im jsut so used to the german ones, which are fantastic- or maybe an extremely old game that was just weird on its own even
i take no pride in hating the voices, espeically knowing how badly voice actors are treated and often replaced with some shitty celebtrity, but i truly do not get why they are so bad, the voices themselves never rly fit, and even if it would be passable, they are all speaking in a way where it either sounds like they are some guy sitting next to you reading a line for the first time or overemphasizing so much it sounds like someone playing pretend with toddlers
and its not in an indie game where the devs did their best to voice people themselves bc they didnt have the money, this is nintendo, how is it still like that, bc even the ones returning from botw, are STILL just as bad, i dont know if that can all be the fault of the actors, its so weird to me
and it makes it even harder for me to believe that people take this game as seriously as they do or as emotionally affecting bc a, if not THE, biggest part of the fandom is made up of english speakers who would probably never even think about trying a different language
...anyway, i needed to say that at some point)

Tbf 'mankind' is actually from an older version of English where 'man' just meant "human" (the word for woman was 'wif' & the word for man was 'were' which still survives in 'werewolf', or man-wolf) and 'kind' comes from 'kin' or cynn meaning "family".
The English language is still very man centered bc of the patriarchy but this particular bit predates the gender neutral assigning of men centered terms

Shinomori is cute. Here's a post.
He is so baby-faced. He hasn't changed at all since he was 22, to when he died of "old age" at 40
(Old age? With a face like that? 40 years old?? Gimme that kind of youth and hotness Shinomori-)
He has tiny eyebrows. Like a puppy's (rottweiler's, for example). So cute and tiny and fuffy
He naturally frowns. Look at him and his mouth and his lil nose
He has a thing about keeping his arms near his chest. He sits with his arms crossed, introduces himself with his hands over his torso, and even walks with his arms crossed toward Midoriya
He has such clear skin for someone who lived the rest of his life in a forest??? Why do Hikage and Yoichi have such nice skin despite living in terrible environments? (forest and vault + abandoned streets respectively)
Is easily scared
They knew their Quirks could be used, but Shinomori got scared of it when it happened. Even though he gave Midoriya his support and access to his Quirk beforehand. Depending on the translation; "it startled me", "you scared me", "it surprised me"
I'm not going to hold running from AFO against him because he knew he was running for his life. Who wouldn't run for their life when it's in danger? Shinomori was being chased by the strongest person in the country (and likely the world)
His sense of self-preservation is probably heightened by the nature of his Quirk to keep him out of danger too. Which makes him all the more sensitive and jumpy to danger and anything that startles him, especially when he has no warning
He's actually extremely tall, but is so socially inept and jumpy it's adorable. He's taller than Bruce.
Bruce is as tall as a vault door that the 2m AFO used.
(Meanwhile Kudo is down there-)
He has such a bad sense of humor that it's cute (his puns off Danger Sense)
It's also adorable how Shinomori just doesn't understand social conventions sometimes. He lived in a forest, so it made sense, but also— Midoriya shows up in the void to the vestige platform for the first time. He has no mouth, no clothes—and Shinomori's first idea is to stand in front of him menacingly and go: "I shall explain. I am Shinomori Hikage." SIRRRR
This.
His Ability is basically like glorified anxiety. What if something is coming to hurt him? If something can hurt him? What if that tree falls while he's under it? And the ideas come so hard they hurt (although yes, it does detect ill intent and that's what sets it off)
He talks weirdly. Formal? Old-fashioned? Listening to him speak Japanese compared to others, it just sounds a bit different. (Translated subs don't show it very well, it's the voice itself methinks)
"This too, is destiny." *about Midoriya having OFA*
Kinda wise or sage-y. He did spend his life in solitude in the forests so he definitely spent a lot of time with his own thoughts. Maybe he found the meaning of life in a centipede or something one day
For someone so cute, he is also such. A fine. Specimen???
Look at those back muscles, dang.
LOOK AT HIS CALVES AND ARMS DANG.

Jessica’s fate is a miniature of what's happening to all the children in this universe: victims of a previous generation’s imperial extraction while everyone assigns blame in the wrong direction. I think that’s intentional but, given that, I’m not sure what to make of how they use all those hoarded relics later in the series. Maybe I’ll have a clearer idea when I get there, although I feel like the politics get pretty muddled at the end of Ptolemy’s Gate also, so sometimes you just decide to set aside your themes for a cool set piece. I get it.
Anyway if Listener powers can overcome the language barrier I think Lucy should ask those people who they are so they can be returned. IDK how Lockwood's parents got all those artifacts, but I find it hard to believe people willingly handed over the literal souls of their relatives.

one love live scene i still love is when kurosawa “reasonable and prim student council president who doesn’t waste her time on frivolous pursuits” dia snaps and gives chika the “you think you’re a real μ’s fan?? name 5 of their songs” because although she and idols are at an impasse she can’t have her status as the supreme μ’s fan questioned. i love dia she’s such a loser. i also love the scene where she tries being friendly and calling you you-chan causing you to send a bundle of balloons loose into the sky
