This 1928 Spanish Revival in Long Beach, CA has so many wonderful retro features that are preserved. 3bds, 2ba, $1.02M.
Tumblr media
Small foyer with a fancy carved arch and sconces sculpted into the wall. I've never seen anything like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, look, there're more. Beautiful Spanish style fireplace and a recessed built-in bar.
Tumblr media
The dining room has a shallow recessed wall niche that's just big enough to highlight a sideboard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check out this wonderful original kitchen. Vintage stove, cabinets, tile, everything. I have to appreciate how the owners took such good care of it.
Tumblr media
Original backsplash and faucet.
Tumblr media
The mirrored door opens to the old milk delivery window. They must've put that little plastic shelf in the wall for steel wool soap pads (when everyone knows that you simply put them back in the box and they're good as new).
Tumblr media
Wonderful vintage stove.
Tumblr media
What a lovely, sunny kitchen dining space.
Tumblr media
And, look, it has 2 corner cabinets.
Tumblr media
Check this out- not only does it have a folding ironing board, but it has a little board for sleeves.
Tumblr media
And, look at this- a little galvanized metal lined cabinet for the iron. I wonder if the vintage iron will convey.
Tumblr media
TV room. (Could they have chosen more uncomfortable chairs?)
Tumblr media
Now, here we are in a closet.
Tumblr media
A trap door in the floor opens to the basement. Since I only see one step, it must have a ladder.
Tumblr media
This bedroom is lovely, but it's not very big since they have the bed on an angle.
Tumblr media
The bath! It has a big built-in vanity table.
Tumblr media
And, orchid plumbing fixtures. I've seen vintage colored sinks and tubs, but they always have a new white toilet. They may have gotten this toilet from an architectural salvage yard.
Tumblr media
In the hall, ahead, there's a built-in desk. On the left is a built-in armoire. And, there's also a phone niche with a folding seat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is so royal looking. It looks like Old English around the ceiling border. And, look at the built-in with the pull-out mirrors.
Tumblr media
Beautiful vintage shower room.
Tumblr media
This home is amazing- gated driveway with porte cochere and 2 car garage.
Tumblr media
In the large yard is an addition.
Tumblr media
It's a large addition and has this great studio, plus 2 other big rooms that use for storage.
Tumblr media
And, look at this detail in the wall outside- a little gnome niche.
Tumblr media
The lot is .15 acre.

#just a little diary dump:#i've contacted my school therapist again. asked for help regarding anxiety abt schoolwork since i dont get any other treatment#she said she can help me go thru if there are other options since neither psychiatric nor healthcare center will help me#+ she said that she and i can talk abt my anxiety regarding school etc. so in two weeks i'll see her#school starts next week. 4days a week rip... lol thats much for me. a bum. a cellar dweller. i've decided that im gnna go to all my classes#and always work while im there since its harder for me to do it at home. and i will also talk more w my teacher nd ask them for help#then im looking into an online therapy service. it miiight be possible for me to do that. but then i have to contact them and focus on only#1 or 2 issues. in my experience it just doesnt work to go to them and be like everythings bad :(( they wont help u then. i have to narrow it#down for them. nd i'll think i will talk 2 them abt my extreme feelings of loneliness and also my procrastination behavior#but yeah i have no idea if it's possibly bc idk if i can get financial aid for that service. im still in contact w the healthcare center so#i hope she will come to some sort of conclusion nd not just leave my high nd dry (she sent another referral to the persobality disorder -#clinic. even if they rejected the first one. so i'll see)#hmmm yeah. the situation w my sisters is sooooo rough. i hate it. they make me feel so so bad#and the housing situation is roughhhh. it's impossible to get an apartment lol.#so i need to find a way to shut it off and try to not let it bother me#just focus on finishing upper secondary school. nd i've been thinking abt taking out a loan for it and take german/french/spanish classes#instead of doing what im doing now when im actually poor and stressed bc they can choose to cut me off anytime#im meeting my highschool friend on tuesday. she asked if i wanted to hang out for a bit c:#im a bit anxious but like yeah.. it's nice to get out and talk to someone besides my family. which is just my mom lol#i messaged my other old highschool classmate on insta and said i saw her in my neighborhood#she replied but i had lowkeyyy hoped for more... like maybe being able to befriend her T-T but she didnt seem so interested in talking to me#which is ok ofc. it just made me a bit sad bc idk how to make friends and i thought she was rlly nice. but oh well#im rlly sad atm. maybe heartbreak prob. even more sad bc it was my stupid fault but yeah#im still grateful for all that it gave me. nd how i got to experience feelings of warmth nd love nd appreciation i didnt know i could feel#so even if im just contantly heavily sad bc i keep being like oh. i wanna ask this. say that. wonder what theyre up to. etc etc. i just have#to... be sad and just keep going forward#hope and try to not fuck everything else up. even if it feels like... what do all the other things matter when what i rlly rlly wanted got#ruined..... thats life tho. i know. im just so bad at handling life :((#i feel so broken and confused and i hate that i didnt get to be normal and healthy#im so illequipped at dealing w myself nd my emotions nd there seems to be no professional help for me

Historically speaking, families that practiced incest, at least to a larger degree than other cultures, also gave women more rights. The reason the Habsburgs married niece-to-uncle all the time was because their inheritance customs dictated that property and titles could pass through the eldest daughter's line to her eldest son. So, in order to keep their empire in the hands of the Habsburgs instead of the French or the English, they married their daughters to Habsburg cousins. The one time this rule was not followed, it sparked a civil war where the Habsburgs were ousted from the Spanish throne because the Spanish king had not married his Habsburg daughter to another Habsburg. Ditto for the Egyptian dynasties where women generally had a larger say in political/cultural/domestic life than their European counterparts. Cleopatra was not the only female Pharoah to kick ass. All of this to say, the Valyrian Freehold and the Targaryens, by extension, most likely gave their women some stake in property rights and/or inheritance policies. Why else would it be traditional for Aegon to marry his oldest sister if custom dictated he only had to marry one? Why else would it even be a debate for Laenor to inherit the Iron Throne through his mother?

The real estate ad says this gorgeous 1927 Spanish Colonial in San Antonio, Texas is a great opportunity to restore an historic home. But, I hope it doesn't mean that someone will come along to gut and modernize this nearly 100% original home. I would rather just repair and paint the amazing 4bd, 2ba, 3.5ba building and leave the architecture as it is. Let's go thru it.
Tumblr media
Isn't this entrance hall fabulous? Original double doors that need refinishing, floral tile floors and wrought iron inserts on the windows, plus wrought iron gates. Also an original light fixture and door chime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dramatic, huge iron gates open to the great room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Behold the great room. Original tile floors, columns, arches, a balcony, and a mezzanine. The wrought iron on the left show the stairs. And, the gold corbels in the corners are so beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These 2 photos show the umbrella shape of the incredible ceiling with corbels in each corner. I can picture someone taking all the iron down and lowering the ceiling, making it flat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Off the great room, they must've had a game room and it looks like they left a vintage pool table. The ceiling needs repair, the walls need touch up and paint. The floor could use a sanding and refinish.
Tumblr media
The wonderful chunky old pool table is hiding the fireplace, and there's a fabulous one behind it. Love the curve and shape of the ceiling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Off the game room is a dining room. Again, it will need a few tweaks. But, the doors, wrought iron, etc., are in good shape. The brass fixture is original but may have to be rewired and polished.
Tumblr media
The owners put in new appliances but I would sell them, then buy the retro look ones.
Tumblr media
I love the kitchen. It needs some tile repair and stuff, but it's mostly original, especially the cabinets and the range hood. You know someone's gonna gut this and completely modernize it.
Tumblr media
Oh, damn, looks like that one iron inset is broken. Up here on the mezzanine the beautiful railing has to be repainted or stripped.
Tumblr media
It's so nice up here.
Tumblr media
Looking down at the great room. Love this house so much.
Tumblr media
This must be a bedroom and that's probably the "closet" behind the drapes. Look like there's a balcony, too.
Tumblr media
Cute smaller room.
Tumblr media
Look at this wonderful vintage bath. Toilet's new, but you can see the outline of the old one. There's an original sink and medicine chest.
Tumblr media
And, this would be the 3rd bd.
Tumblr media
Oh, look at this- original tub. The pedestal sink looks like a good repro and at least some of the tile is original. There's also a shower on the right.
Tumblr media
I would say that this large room with the fireplace is the primary bedroom. Beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a great big outdoor space to entertain. It's covered and on each wall is a lantern light- can you imagine how pretty they would look at night?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lovely fenced yard. You can see the bedroom balconies, too. Could probably fit a pool back here. The lot is 9,060 sq. ft.
Tumblr media
From here you can see that it has a port cochere and a garage. Also, above is that wonderful covered deck.

Love this apartment! Love. Knocking down beautiful old buildings and putting up ugly cookie-cutter crap does not address housing and just kills local character and history.

Ok I also explored where my bisa and my tío and my cousins lived. I’ve never looked at a map or had their addresses but I do have a good sense of direction and a freaky memory for layouts and I think I found everyone’s homes and you can bet I’ve been absolutely weeping about every single one
#tío Juan turned his irrigation pool into a swimming pool. and you can tell cos it’s higher up and a funny shape#and he had a small amount of land for his goats and chickens etc#and a bigggg pine tree#and the garage was under the balcony#anyway I found that. I just clicked the local castle and searched the surroundings for land that matched#it’s definitely 100% his home#and my cousin lived very very close I remember the road to it doesn’t seem like a real road and you have to go through a tiny underpass#but he renovated a very old water mill. with no water. and it also has a lot of land#Also for his goats and pigs and dogs and cats#and cos it’s a unique building I found it easily#my other cousin was harder to find. I didn’t go there as often. they came to us more or met us at another house#but I remember it was higher up and at the end of a path#and there was a gate and some land to the left#I THINK I found it. almost everything matches up but the outside of the building looks a little different hmmmm#also I found my bisa’s flat. but it’s been the longest since we were there#cos she sold it and moved in with us when she got old#and all those flats near the beach look the same#but this one seems to have a hollow between buildings and there’s a square a little further up and I’m pretty sure that’s it#anyway I’m. im feeling better#being with my Spanish family is the only time I’ve ever ever felt loved#THEYRE all saved to my favourites now#Juan died a long while ago but my cousin Pablo lives there now#and he works the land and has a produce business#I need to go back I really do#Also . my snooping skills are incredible to figure this all out. obviously#same with finding my abuelas village#it’s so small it’s unmarked i just had to keep looking for groups of buildings until I found the right one#then I checked with her and I was right#my old town ik as well as where I live now so that was fine

On: today i dreamt...
What started as a story about a group of gangster breaking into an abandoned (but not really?) prison to film their movie and being caught soon devolved into an international conspiracy filled with subplots about love and corruption, culminating with both groups that we thought were equally righteous finding out not everything was quite as it seems.
#luly talks#i had to run a man on all 4s to catch him it was great#movie-dream started about like torture with our protags being thrown into a container at first full of blood and missing limbs#but that soon got dropped w the only thing left of it being this one man who had part of his jaw and ribs falling/peeling off#and he had to lovers an old one who was kissing him and a new one#(a cop; too) who was looking at his naked for for the first time as he looked at the sea and sunset#and she slowly approached him before starting to kiss his somehow still bleeding wounds as he mourned the pain of being crucified#like that guy literally never showed up again#oh my god actually there was something aside from that there was a really fucked up sims world that just couldn't be real#and ended w marge and homer drowning i think (their house was underwater) and Maggie dying too as a nursery rhyme played#and there was also a random event of domestic violence#anyway about the movie-dream; it had something to do about the government making illnesses and having the cure but keeping it#and it was tied to reagan but we all were talking spanish (tbf movie-dream; could've been dubbed DKDHNSGD) and the reason why we realized#this was because a radio message of a british girl named sumthin like casey i think who had cancer or something#and basically the government knew and had the mediums to cure her but wouldn't do it#so in the end me and this girl who discovered this conspiracy and the other and og group who was doing fuck all i guess came back together#and at first my friend pretended to be all of our enemies (she was enemies w only one guy there) but then we turned on the guy#and as I guess revenge on the people who were supporting this goverment conspiracy and helping it instead of killing them we grabbed them#and flashed a weird scan light onto their eye which made em be infected#<- in dream this shit was cool as fuck ok?#and then everyone went on w their lives and in the bud#bus* ppl spoke w me and gave me food leftovers to help out those who needed em but it felt... awkward#like they were doing it out of fear instead of kindness y'know#oh btw i rode an helicopter 😁

This is a vent? I think, I dunno, ask me tomorrow after my migraine is over:
I've had a migraine for eight hours now. This is far from the worst migraine I've ever had (I'm not at the ER getting painkillers stabbed into my bloodstream), but it may well be the longest.
And I can't take my good medicine because I'm not allowed to take it when alone in case I get the heart attack side effect and need somebody to force the other medicine down my throat.
I messaged my mum just to let her know in case I'm not able to meet her tomorrow and she says "it's just a headache".
I always forget how completely unaware of pain people who don't suffer pain are.
No, just pain was when I fell on my elbow during quidditch practice and my bone was visible.
Just pain was when I crashed my bike.
Just pain was that ER visit I regret not just patching up at home because five hours in a waiting room with no internet was as close to purgatory I wish to be.
Migraines are hell stuffed into my head, migraines are questioning if this is the one that takes my eyesight, migraines are headaches in the same way me sitting crying in my closet is a visit to Narnia.
Anyway, if you suffer migraines, I'm sorry.
If you do not, I am happy for you, but please understand migraines can LITERALLY cause parts of your brain to shut down so maybe take them seriously if someone close to you suffers them.
Also if anybody didn't know migraines can kill parts of your brain and is now scared, that is VERY rare. It happens but like, you'll probably be fine it just FEELS like your brain is dying. Also, there's nothing you can actually do about it so your best option is just have a painkiller, find the darkest quietest area in your house and pray to the nordic gods for a fast recovery.
