More GL manga recs:

Summary: Aya is a high school student who is captivated by the mysterious "Onii-san" who works at a CD store. The real "Onii-san" is actually Mitsuki, a girl in her class with whom she had never spoken to before.

Review: This is a very cute read!!! The story doesn't drag out any drama. When I first started reading this, I was afraid it'd drag the secret of Mitsuki being the "Onii-san" but it doesn't. It's very well paced while also being a slow burn. They're both very well written.

Status: Ongoing

Summary: Bubbly, energetic first-year high school student Himari falls head over heels for her senpai Yori after hearing her band perform on the first day of school. Himari tells Yori she just loves her, and to Himari's surprise, Yori says she loves Himari back! But when Himari realizes that she and her senpai are feeling two different kinds of love, she begins to ask herself what "love" really means...

Summary: They're both so adorable!!! I love their relationship sm. There's a lot of other wlw relationships in this manga so that's a plus point. There's also some angst here and there. It also has an anime adaptation coming out next year!

Status: Ongoing

Summary: England, the early 1900s. Alice, a young noblewoman, has a Japanese maid named Hanako working in her household. The two have a fairly typical relationship…until the day Alice begs Hanako to kill her. As Hanako tries to figure out why her mistress would make such a terrible request, she and Alice grow closer until an entirely new feeling begins to blossom between them.

Review: The summary doesn't really do justice to the manga's plot but I don't want to say much because I'll mistakenly give out spoilers so I'll just say it's angsty so prepare yourself for that. Both of the characters and the relationship between them are very well written.

Status: Completed

Okay this isn't a manga, it's a manhua(chinese comic). I haven't read enough GL manhua to make a list about it so I'm putting it here. This manhua is called Tamen de Gushi. I think the English translation of the story name is called "Their Story"/ "SQ begin w/your name"

Summary: The funny romantic story of how Qiu Tong and Sun Jing met and fell in love.

Review: It was one of my first GLs so it has a very special place in my heart. I laughed a lot while reading this. It's mostly on the comedy side. Qiu Tong and Sun Jing's relationship is so so adorable. The side characters in this story are also lovable. The characters in this feel very relatable. Unfortunately due to censorship in China the author had been told to remove the confession scene of the main characters in the physical copies and the author rejected to do that. Because of this, the manhua doesn't have proper chapters anymore but the author still does post little snippets of their life together on weibo and twitter. However there's still 200+ chapters of wholesomeness so please do give it a read!

Smowkie recs McShep

i've been reading a lot of McShep fics lately and a while back i mentioned that i had plans to make a couple of fic rec posts. they're taking me forever to make, but here's the first one, finally!

@wonkyelk was one of the first authors i found, and i've read and loved SO MANY of their fics! wonderful author that made me fall head over heels for the pining!John and oblivious!Rodney trope! 💖

this is by no means an exhaustive list of the fics i loved from them, it's just a small number of the ones i read and enjoyed. my biggest recommendation with this author is to just go read their fics, it's great stuff and their language is delightful.

so here goes, in no particular order:

Rodney's emotional levels were generally at critical, but, right now, they were straining the banks and spoiling for a flood of world-drowning proportions. This wasn't because of a crisis, nor even anything so petty and ordinary as a mid-life crisis - not that Rodney was old enough for that, slap bang in the very prime of life as he was and intended to remain - but more of a build up of small things and not-so small things, stacking up awkwardly on top of each other and wobbling under the pressure and the terrible engineering choices.

Smowkie: this is a wonderful read, and i love how John comes first for Rodney long before he realizes his feelings for him. also Rodney and Jeannie bonding 💖 (to clarify the break-up tag: i've chosen not to add relationship tags in this post since all fics are McShep, but this fic has both the John/Rodney and the Jennifer/Rodney relationship tags, and the break-up tag is for Jennifer/Rodney)

i'll reiterate the ones i said there just because it was in a reply and this way more people will have context even though you've obviously already seen it: i recommended the wrong earth and the wrong earth: night and day by tom peyer and jamal igle, dial h for hero by sam humphries and joe quinones, wonder twins by mark russell and stephen byrne, and martian manhunter by steve orlando and riley rossmo.

astro city by kurt busiek:

anthology comic, so it's hard to give a complete summary. most arcs don't last more than three issues, making it a comic that's really easy to read. it has some of the best bottle stories i've ever read; my personal favorite is #16, titled "wish i may..." which was incredibly comforting to me during a very difficult time in my life and follows a superhero on the anniversary of her predecessor's death. #42, which is about a pastiche of black manta, #14-15, about a woman who adopts and fixes robots, are also standouts.

secret six vol. 4 (2015) by gail simone:

i'm not gail simone's biggest fan. but this series makes me go up the wall. if you're interested, i do also recommend her previous two secret six volumes, but this one requires no past continuity since it's from the n52. the pitch: the mysterious mockingbird has kidnapped six (and a half?) individuals and left them in a coffin to die. of course escape is the next logical step--but what is the secret behind their capture, and which one of them knows more than they're letting on?

blue beetle vol. 7 (2006) by john rogers

listen. this is one of the best comics ever written. it's one of the longer ones on this list--rogers' proper run goes from #1 to #25, and if you want to keep going until the end i'm definitely not going to stop you even if there is a dip in quality. (i'm fond of #28, though.) it's definitely one of those comics you can't put down once you start it. it's utterly excellent. the strength of this comic doesn't just lie in its incredible characterization of its main character, newest blue beetle jaime reyes, but in the way it builds the world around him and especially the characters he befriends. cape comics don't get much better than this. the pitch: after the events of infinite crisis, jaime reyes crashes back down to earth. but as much as he wants to go back to living a normal life, the alien technology fused to his back means he's not only one of the most dangerous people alive, but one of the only people the world can count on to save it.

justice league of america's vibe by sterling gates

geoff johns and andrew kreisberg get the credit for this one, but sterling gates is who truly helmed this book, so my personal accolades fall on him. look, this isn't the best comic i've ever read. but there's a reason it's stuck with me for so long. it's a breezy read at only ten issues, follows characters that you fall in love with before you've even realized it's happening, and will make you ask why the hell this story was never continued. the pitch: five years after darkseid attempted to invade earth, argus sets its sights on one of the people most affected by the attack--eighteen-year-old cisco ramon, who was left world-breaking powers and saw his brother's life taken in return the day the parademons arrived. but what are their real plans for him? and what's lying in wait for him beneath the city of detroit if he fails?

superman: secret identity by kurt busiek

oh look, there's kurt busiek again. this comic is quick and simple and doesn't overstay its welcome. while you can read its sister series, batman: creature of the night, it's not as good and the wait times between when the issues were released mean i unfortunately don't have super cohesive memories of it. this one is just plain good. the pitch: clark kent always thought he was normal. sure, his parents cursed him by naming him after the most famous superhero in the world, and it was a funny coincidence that he fell in love with a woman named lois of all things, but that's all it was. a coincidence. he may have superman's name, but he's just a comic book character. clark doesn't actually have powers... right?
