It is a vast and unforgiving place to call home, where the winter temperature plummets to a bitter -40 degrees Celsius. I took this series in February 2017 in Mongolia where followed a nomadic Kazakh family and their livestock as they made their 150km Spring migration across the Altai Mountains with temperatures as low as -40C (-40F). They move about a thousand animals including yaks, camels, goats and eagles. This expedition has been one my personal favorites, so I am excited it may find a new audience. The Kazakhs of western Mongolia, known for hunting with eagles, are nomadic people whose lives revolve around the movement of their livestock. In winter, the lakes freeze solid - animals are afraid of the ice and will only cross when it is disguised by a covering of snow. I was thrilled to learn that my editorial • The Migration of the Eagle Hunters • won a Silver Award in the category Travel Editorial of the One Eyeland Photography Awards 2017. It was adjudged by a jury of 17 eminent artists, the awards this year received over 4000 images from 74 countries. “Kanya Aagman”, aka Waking down the aisle 👰 ... Traditionally speaking, Indian weddings don’t really have a part where brides “walk down the aisle”. Instead, there is a tradition known as “kanya aagman” which translates to “Arrival of the bride”, where male relatives from the bride’s side walk her to the mandap.
