Nearly 400 arrested in UK anti-Muslim far-right riots

Nearly 400 arrested in UK anti-Muslim far-right riots
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The UK government said on Tuesday that 6,000 specialist police officers were ready to deal with far-right rioting that broke out following the murder of three children, triggering a week of violence.
On Monday, six people were arrested and several police officers injured when they were attacked by rioters hurling bricks and fireworks in Plymouth, southern England.
Officers in Belfast, Northern Ireland, were attacked as rioters attempted to set fire to a shop owned by a foreign national.
Police said a man in his 30s was seriously assaulted during the disorder and that they are treating the incident as a racially motivated hate crime.
Meanwhile, a group of men who gathered in Birmingham, central England, to counter a rumoured far-right demonstration, forced a Sky News reporter off air shouting: “Free Palestine”. She was then followed by a man in a balaclava holding a knife.
Another reporter said he was chased by members of the group “with what looked like a weapon”, while police said there had also been incidents of criminal damage to a pub and a car.
The unrest broke out last Tuesday after three children were killed in a stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, northwest England.
Riots have since flared up in several cities and towns, leading to hundreds of arrests.
Justice minister Heidi Alexander told BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday that the government had freed up an extra 500 prison places and drafted in 6,000 specialist police officers to deal with the ongoing violence.
“We will make sure that anyone who is given a custodial sentence as a result of the riots and disorder, there will be a prison place waiting for them,” she said.
False rumours
Mobs threw bricks and flares, attacked police, burnt and looted shops, smashed the windows of cars and homes and targeted at least two hotels housing asylum seekers in a number of cities at the weekend.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday convened and emergency meeting of ministers and police chiefs to discuss the unrest.
The government will “ramp up criminal justice” to ensure that “sanctions are swift”, Starmer told the media after Monday’s meeting.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) said 378 people had so far been arrested and that others would be “brought to justice”.
Clashes broke out in Southport on Wednesday, the day after three young girls were killed and five more children critically injured during the knife attack there.
False rumours initially spread on social media saying the attacker was a Muslim asylum seeker.
The suspect was later identified as 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, born in Wales. UK media reported that his parents are from Rwanda, which has very few Muslims.
That has not stopped mosques from being targeted by rioters.
The government has offered new emergency security to Islamic places of worship.
In Burnley, northwest England, a hate crime investigation was underway after gravestones in a Muslim section of a cemetery were vandalised with grey paint.
“What type of evil individual(s) would undertake such outrageous actions, in a sacrosanct place of reflection, where loved ones are buried, solely intended to provoke racial tensions?”, local councillor Afrasiab Anwar said.
The prime minister warned rioters on Sunday that they would “regret” participating in England’s worst disorder in 13 years.
Interior minister Yvette Cooper told the BBC on Monday that “there will be a reckoning”.
Cooper also said that social media put a “rocket booster” under the violence.
Starmer stressed that “criminal law applies online as well as offline”.
On Tuesday, Alexander criticised Elon Musk, owner of X, after he claimed “civil war” in the UK was “inevitable”.
“I think it is deeply irresponsible. I think everyone should be appealing for calm,” she said.
Police have blamed the violence on people associated with the now-defunct English Defence League, a far-right Islamophobic organisation founded 15 years ago, whose supporters have been linked to football hooliganism.
The rallies have been advertised on far-right social media channels under the banner “Enough is enough”.

LONDON, Aug 5 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said violent protesters who had targeted Muslim communities would swiftly face the "full force of the law" as he sought to quell days of anti-immigration rioting.
The fatal stabbing of three young girls in the northwest English town of Southport last week has been seized on by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups, with disinformation spread online and amplified by high-profile far-right figures to spark disorder in towns and cities.
"Whatever the apparent motivation, this is not protest, it is pure violence and we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities," Starmer said on Monday after an emergency meeting with police and prison chiefs.
"The full force of law will be visited on all those who are identified as having taken part."
Police chiefs said they had arrested 378 people since the start of the unrest and warned of "lengthy prison terms" for those found guilty of violent disorder.
The violence erupted last Tuesday after social media posts said the suspected attacker in Southport was a radical Islamist who had just arrived in Britain and was known to intelligence services.
Police say the 17-year-old suspect was born in Britain and they are not treating it as a terrorist incident. The suspect's parents had moved to Britain from Rwanda.
Interior minister Yvette Cooper said rioters had felt "emboldened ... to stir up racial hatred" and that the protests were not a proportionate response to concerns about near-record levels of immigration.
"Reasonable people ... do not pick up bricks and throw them at the police," she said.
Protests, mostly involving a few hundred people, have continued across the country, with shops looted and mosques and Asian-owned businesses attacked. Cars have been set on fire and some unverified videos on social media have shown ethnic minorities being beaten up.
Australia and Nigeria were among countries to issue warnings on Monday to citizens resident in or travelling to Britain.
On Monday evening, protests spread to Plymouth in southwest England. Several hundred anti-immigration protesters wearing English and British flags faced off against a greater number of counter-protesters, kept apart by police in riot gear.
Protesters threw bricks and fireworks and scuffled with police. Sky News said three police officers were injured.
In Rotherham, northern England, protesters on Sunday tried to break into a hotel that housed asylum seekers in what Starmer called an act of "far-right thuggery", following protests on Saturday in other English cities and in Belfast.
Starmer said a "standing army" of specialist police officers would tackle outbreaks of violence where needed.
Northern Ireland's assembly will end its summer break a day early to discuss the violence.
POLICE BLAME ONLINE DISINFORMATION
Police have blamed online disinformation, amplified by high-profile figures for driving the violence.
Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known by the pseudonym Tommy Robinson and previously the leader of the defunct anti-Islam English Defence League, has been blamed by media for spreading misinformation to his 875,000 followers on X.
"They are lying to you all," Yaxley-Lennon said. "Attempting to turn the nation against me. I need you, you are my voice."
Elon Musk, the owner of X, also weighed in. Responding to a post on X that blamed mass migration and open borders for the disorder in Britain, he wrote: "Civil war is inevitable."
Starmer's spokesperson said there was "no justification" for Musk's comment. Musk later criticised Starmer for a post on X which identified mosques as needing particular protection.
In Whitechapel in London, lawyer M. A. Gani, 33, said the British Bangladeshi community was "living in fear".
"We've never seen this kind of far-right groups (being so) active and anti-immigrant," he said.
"I hope that the UK (government) will take initiative to calm down the situation."
Britain's technology minister, Peter Kyle, met representatives of social media platforms including X to remind them of their responsibility to stop the spread of racial hate and incitement to violence.
"There is a significant amount of content circulating that platforms need to be dealing with at pace," he said.

Fireworks have been around since time immemorial. Our chemists have been successful in the development of combinations of such chemicals that produce breathtaking displays of colour and can also be safe in use. This is what makes us love fireworks so much and use them as a part of our occasions. As much as we all love the idea of fireworks, it’s also equally fun to contemplate how they get their color. Fireworks are clearly enough to stir our emotional selves and make us feel elated. It’s even more interesting to know what forms this myriad of patterns and colors.

Now that The Dream Doll series is over, I’ll leave you with a neat little thing I organized~ If you’re curious about the timeline for that story for whatever reason, here you go *throws* (If you haven’t read my fic yet, I’d advise you to not read ahead, bc spoilers!!! xD)
July 6, 2019: Dream makes his youtube channel. He’s also cursed and his memories are wiped.
Sometime after July 6: Dream falls in love with the stars and loses his first pin. Dream’s grandma also takes him to the UK.
June 21, 2020: George and Sapnap find the antique shop and George buys the Dream Doll.
June 22: Sapnap leaves for america in the morning.
June 23: Dream and George meet for the first time. Dream spends the night playing with George’s cat, and loses his second pin.
June 24: George buys Dream a pizza and Dream loses a pin when riding a bike with George.
June 25: While George is sleeping, Dream plays minecraft and loses his fourth pin.
June 26: George and Dream record a minecraft video together.
June 27: George sleeps and Dream browses online by himself.
June 28: George and Dream go to the beach. Dream loses his pin after engaging in a water battle with George. The curse is now halfway to being broken. That day, there was also a half-moon.
June 29: Dream tells George a bedtime story before he goes to bed. When George goes to sleep, Dream learns how to code and loses a pin when learning about minecraft plug-ins.
June 30: George and Dream play in the rain, and Dream’s seventh pin falls inside the folded umbrella.
July 1: Dream does not instantly appear from the doll. George waits ~2 hours before Dream appears, and he falls asleep from exhaustion. Dream loses his eighth pin from cuddling.
July 2: George and Dream watch movies together. Dream falls asleep mid-movie and has a dream. He loses his ninth pin from “dreaming.” (I leave this as ambiguous, because as we know, it wasn’t exactly a ~good~ dream...) Dream informs George about the deadline.
July 3: George would normally sleep on this day, but tasked with the deadline, he skips it. He microwaves canned soup, makes drawings with Clay, and cooks pancakes.
July 4: George celebrates an american holiday with Dream by buying fireworks. They end the day with tea, massages, and more cuddling.
July 5: George buys Dream a bouquet, and they aimlessly walk outside. George confesses under the full moon and Dream’s last pin falls.
July 6: George and Dream tell Sapnap and Bad the news.
July 7: George and Dream revisit the antique shop.
Sometime after July 8: Dream boards his flight to go back to Florida.
July 27: Luca dies :(
~Two months after July: Dream comes back to the UK and visits George.
And that’s where the canon material ends, but let’s just all believe they got married and had a happily ever after~ ^^

Quenching my thirst for Urbanity: Week 7, Spain
Wow. It’s been one of those weeks that have been crammed full of stuff - from arriving into València to now feeling settled in the city, from connecting with new people and clients to rekindling my love for urban exploring. It’s been a week full of sunshine and surprises.
Tumblr media
My first thought is that in light of the current Covid-19 crisis, this blog feels truly ridiculous and self-indulgent. What started as a handful of people showing flu-like symptoms has escalated into a pretty scary global health threat, and I must admit I’ve gone from passing it off as ‘something that will blow over’ to really taking it seriously. I’m not into scaremongering, but I now see the potential impact of a virus like this on each and every one of us and on the liberties we are so used to.
All that considered, it still feels important to document our travels and to celebrate the good stuff that’s still happening. Life here in Spain feels fairly unaffected by the Corona virus at this stage (apart from a conference I attended today being about 75% empty), but we’re also following developments across the global stage where life really is being affected. I would at least say that it’s encouraging to see the way in which countries are rallying together and catalysing action to tackle this crisis (if only we could do the same for the climate crisis). Our own plans have been affected as we were headed to Italy next, but for now I’m going to focus on the last seven days that have passed here on the Spanish coast and which have marked our seventh week on the road. In reflecting on this I hope to send out a little ray of sunshine!
Tumblr media
(image) The sun sets from our parking spot in Valencia and we’re thinking of friends and family around the globe.
This week started with our final day on the road coming into València. We were treated to a chilly ocean swim, a daytime wander around Castellón, and an adventurous evening drive up to an incredible panoramic camping spot.
On that first day of the week we woke up in an eerily deserted coastal spot, and then drove a little further south to ‘Playa Miami’ to have an ocean swim and a wash under the outdoor beach showers. Locals wrapped in layers walking past thought we were nuts, but were all pretty friendly and made us feel very much welcome - which is such a nice feeling when you’re in residential neighbourhoods and you’re concerned about being perceived as unwanted van-dwellers...
I was pretty chuffed to find a cheap refill for our gas bottle in Playa Miami too, half the price that we’d paid in France a month earlier. Spain is definitely a fair bit cheaper than France, not only in terms of fuel but also food shopping (which makes sense given that more fruit and vegetables are grown here). Restocked with supplies and setting off again, we continued southbound towards València, making our next stop at Castellón de la Plana for a lunch break.
I didn’t know much about Castellón, but George and I were enamoured by its character and spent a few chilled-out hours there.
Tumblr media
(images, left to right) People-friendly streets with integrated bike lanes in Castellón, gorgeous orange blossom on our walk into the city, and one of a few murals I spotted and really enjoyed there.
The first thing we observed was how cool the city’s public transport was. The tree-lined boulevard we had parked on was a key spine providing access into the city, and while we opted to walk along its generous pavement, the road also offered a bus route and city bikes. The buses weren’t just any old buses though. They were electrified buses with movable electrical conductors which flipped up and down depending on if there were overhead powerlines. The bus effectively acted as a tram, moving in a dedicated lane and with raised stops with digitised signs.
Closer into the city, the buses merged with normal traffic lanes and (presumably) ran off batteries which store power from being charged by the overhead lines. The bikes were also pretty innovative - being the most basic design out of all the city bike schemes we’ve seen but clearly being well-kept and effective. Seeing places like Castellón, which isn’t even one of the major cities in Spain, simply offer inventive and effective urban mobility solutions as part of everyday life gets me even more frustrated about the state of transport in the UK and Australia. We could learn a thing or to from mainland Europe!
Walking from the edge of Castellón into the city centre and old town, our journey was a delightful multi-sensory experience. Orange trees blossomed, letting off a sweet aromatic smell, and electric buses left the streets peacefully quiet. The town itself boasted attractive historic buildings like the Cathedral and Theatre, with pedestrian-only lanes animated by the mid-afternoon lunch break (which sees shops shut down and cafes come to life between 2ish and 5pm or so). After a coffee and cake in a charming plaza, we hopped back into Suzi and continued on our way towards València.
Up a steep and sketchy road, our parking spot for that first night offered one of the most incredible views down towards València and across the ocean.
Tumblr media
(images) Tackling the ascent to our camping spot to the north of Valencia. Not sure if George is loving the 4WDriving or fearing for his life!
In order to feel safe and secure we decided to park a fair way out of the city, and were not disappointed by the camping spot we chose on Park4Night. Suzi handled the rocky ascent really well (even when she was still in 2WD) and we finally reached the parking spot on El Picaio in the Parc Natural de la Serra Calderona, next to the Santuari de la Santisima Verge de la Medalla Miraculosa, a small catholic chapel atop the mount.
With a celebratory beer in hand, we watched the sun set over the ocean and looked into the distance at the city of València, beyond the rocky hill and the green expanses. I felt overjoyed to be in such a stunning spot and really cherish these moments which are free and yet bring us so much value.
Tumblr media
(images, left to right) Walking to a vantage spot from our parking, a couple of celebratory beers at the top, and the chapel we parked next to.
On Wednesday, George and I drove into València. I visited once before back in 2012, but had very few memories of the place and didn’t really know what to expect this time. The main reason that this city was on our itinerary was cause of a guy I met through Twitter, four years back. Ramon is a Spanish economist and urbanist, who was undertaking some research in Australia back in 2016. He discovered me online and we were brought together by a shared interest in placemaking, eventually meeting for a drink along with one of his colleagues at the Bank Hotel in Newtown, Sydney. We have since stayed in touch, and I followed the impressive progress he was making as Chief Strategy Officer at the emerging ‘Marina de València’. The more I learnt about the waterfront project, the more it seemed that La Marina was an intriguing subject matter for a documentary, and as such it was arranged that we would come and stay in València to film.
Reconnecting with a like-minded individual like Ramon after meeting four years ago has been a wonderful affirmation of the power of networking, the internet, and sharing with others.
Not only will Ramon feature in this upcoming documentary about La Marina, a transformative project on the Mediterranean coast, but he has been the most welcoming host we could have asked for. He has hooked us up with a safe and well-appointed place to park up, which is a key consideration when staying in a city, and he’s been a friend and tour guide too, introducing us to so many passionate individuals and revealing this city’s incredible places and the stories behind them. If George and I decide to stay in València forever, it’s Ramon’s fault!
Tumblr media
(images, left to right) Creamy skies over La Marina, our friend and urban strategist Ramon, and some of the new branding for the La Marina, which I’m really fond of.
Against the backdrop of this picturesque city, the week that has ensued has been a mix of really getting to know La Marina, the usual film editing and vanlife admin, working on some exciting commercial videography projects and exploring this new Spanish city.
We coincidentally picked the craziest time of year to come, when the city’s annual festival, ‘Las Fallas’, marks the start of spring.
We’ve signed up for the city’s bike hire scheme, which although a little heavy, are a really easy way to get around the city. It also really helps that there is an extensive network of bike lanes, well signed, separated from traffic and all joined up to one another. On Thursday we used the bikes to explore València by day, pairing a ride around iconic large-scale landmarks like the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias with a meander around more human-scaled, everyday places like the twisting streets near the Mercado Central and the old town. Other days have seen us cycle into the city at night, when the continuous cacophony of people setting off fireworks and festivities spilling out of community centres (‘las casales falleros’) marks the start of Las Fallas.
Tumblr media
(images, left to right) One of the remaining city gates retained from Valencia’s historic city walls, wandering the streets during Fallas celebrations, and the Centre del Carme brought to life for a night-time concert.
Las Fallas is pretty nuts, a pagan festival which was reappropriated as a Catholic celebration and is now a mash-up of satire, religion and anything related to fires and fireworks. It’s just hard to believe the Valencianos sustain this level of partying and putting up with perpetual fireworks for more than two weeks...
On Saturday afternoon, we filmed a free concert at La Marina, one of many socially-oriented initiatives which make what could be an otherwise exclusive yacht-owners’ paradise a place for the citizens of València to come, hang out, and connect to the waterfront (of course, there are yachts here too, but the place just has a really open and inclusive vibe). After the concert, we took another bike ride into the city centre (about 30 mins from the Marina where Suzi is parked up), this time for a jam-packed evening which started with a free concert at the Centre del Carme contemporary art space and ended with tapas and a midnight tour around the city’s landmarks with Ramon. After a cycle back ‘home’ at 2:30am, with full bellies and hearts, I was reminded why I love the eclecticism and vitality of cities so much.
Visiting València has strengthened my passion for urbanism and that renewal has certainly been a highlight of the week.
Stepping away from my ‘career’ as a placemaker last year was a big decision for me, and a lot of my focus over the last twelve months has just been to get the van built and make this trip happen. I haven’t spent much time in a city since we were living in Sydney, where we had access to many of the assets and activities that urban life can offer. So spending a considerable amount of time here in a major city, and especially making a documentary about La Marina, a strategic urban development with placemaking it its heart, has got me super inspired again.
Tumblr media
(images, left to right) George attracted to a camera shop (like a moth to the light...), delightful laneways and street art, cycling around the City of the Arts & Sciences.
There was one really special moment this week, when George and I stopped mid-afternoon in a small plaza. We had been wandering through the old part of town, just south of the magnificent ‘Turia park’, a green corridor that runs through the heart of the city, and we found a spot to stop for a beer in the street. This plaza wasn’t necessarily anything special, and it certainly didn’t feature any dramatic design or grand gesture, but there was something about it that George and I both picked up on that made it a really great urban space: a place.
Perched on a wall with a cheap lager in hand, we analysed the square, full of the dynamism and complexity that just can’t be created overnight or by one master stroke. There was a restaurant with seats that spilled over onto the pavement, walls layered with peeling paint and posters advertising raves and protests, a bunch of homeless people sat nearby a lone tourist who was eating churros, bought from a temporary van selling the sweet treats for the festival period. On all sides, apartment buildings of different shapes and sizes, though mostly 4 to 5 stories, punctuated by balconies hosting flags and flowerpots and the occasional ‘to let’ sign. And of course, there were plenty of people sitting, standing, chatting, reading, busking, eating, looking and just being. And (surprise surprise) there wasn’t a chain store in sight.
A city which is layered, complex and contradictory, shaped by many hands, worn, colourful, intriguing to the eye, fun, full of confusing juxtapositions which harmonise and clash all at the same time - that is a good city.
I’m excited to see what this coming week has in store for us here in València. Wherever you are, remember to stay safe in light of the virus that dominates our headlines, but don’t forget to enjoy the layered spaces and places around you too. *Footnote*:
After finishing writing this post, I was informed that Las Fallas has now been postponed, yet another devastating impact as Covid-19 shuts down our cities. I'm gutted not to experience Las Fallas, and more importantly for all the companies, organisers and attendees affected. Pretty scary times ahead. We need collaboration, resilience, clearmindedness and positivity more than ever.

Lighting Up the Night: How to Safely Buy Discounted Fireworks Online
Fireworks have long been a staple of celebrations, from Independence Day to New Year's Eve and beyond. The vibrant colors, dazzling displays, and resounding booms create memories that last a lifetime. However, the cost of fireworks can add up quickly, especially if you're planning a large display. To buy discounted fireworks online offers an affordable way to enhance your celebrations without breaking the bank. Here’s what you need to know to make your purchase both safe and cost-effective.
Tumblr media
Advantages of Buying Fireworks Online
Cost Savings: One of the primary benefits to buy Fireworks Online UK is the ability to find discounts that are not typically available at brick-and-mortar stores. Many online retailers offer sales, bulk discounts, and special promotions, allowing you to get more bang for your buck.
Wide Selection: Online fireworks retailers often carry a broader selection of products than physical stores. Whether you're looking for traditional sparklers, elaborate aerial displays, or novelty items like fountains and roman candles, you’re more likely to find exactly what you want online.
Convenience: Shopping online for fireworks allows you to browse at your own pace, compare prices across different sites, and read reviews from other customers. This convenience can save you time and help you make informed purchasing decisions.
Bulk Purchasing: If you're planning a large event, buying in bulk online can provide significant savings. Many online retailers offer wholesale prices for large orders, which can be a game-changer for community events, weddings, or other large gatherings.
Tips for Safe Online Firework Purchases
Check Legality: Fireworks laws vary by state and locality, so it's crucial to ensure that the products you're purchasing are legal in your area. Most reputable online retailers will provide information about where their products can be shipped, but it's always a good idea to double-check local regulations.
Buy from Reputable Retailers: Ensure that the online store you're purchasing from is reputable. Look for customer reviews, Better Business Bureau ratings, and secure payment options. A trustworthy retailer will also provide detailed product descriptions and safety instructions.
Understand Shipping Restrictions: Fireworks are classified as hazardous materials, which mean they are subject to strict shipping regulations. Make sure to review the retailer’s shipping policies, including delivery times and costs. Some states may have restrictions that limit or prohibit the shipment of fireworks.
Safety First: Always prioritize safety when purchasing fireworks. Make sure the products you buy are certified and follow safety guidelines. This includes purchasing fireworks that are clearly labeled with the manufacturer’s information and using them according to the provided instructions.
Final Thoughts
Online Fireworks Shop UK is a fantastic way to enjoy a spectacular celebration without overspending. By taking advantage of online discounts, selecting the right retailer, and adhering to local laws and safety guidelines, you can light up the night with confidence. Whether it's a small family gathering or a large public event, discounted online fireworks can help you create an unforgettable experience. Just remember to celebrate responsibly and safely, ensuring that everyone has a fun and injury-free experience.

For me, I am ‘Mattkenzie’, I am currently 34 years old, I am a Brit (a Surrey lad) and since the UK is a part of the continent of Europe therefore that makes me a European too! I don’t have any impressive titles to my name but I am a human too (eventhough eccentric to be considered ’normal’).
Brexit did indeed affected me as I normally support my FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store) and most of his products are distributed are in places like Germany 🇩🇪 (for it’s board games and it’s board game convention) and France 🇫🇷 (for it’s Chessex dice) so with the major price and tax increasage the shop was forced to close down because of Brexit.
The thing is that small independent game shop has helped me make some good (and some not so close) friends, yes I sometimes pop in the shop to watch people play Magic: the Gathering (Wizards of the Coast in America, Hasbro in Europe) and Warhammer 40,000 (Games Workshop a UK based company). I will admit that I suck at games that requires strategy but I love the artwork (of the cards and how people paint their miniatures). There are times I saw games like Infinity, Malefaux and even a handful of Star Wars games... Heck, this is where I’ve met my D&D group (we still meet up every week) but when my FLGS closed down two years ago I felt... Lonely. 😔
I’m guessing that is what the ‘remaIN’ and ‘BritaIN’ groups and the voters feel now, they feel lonely, like me. (I know I don’t usually talk about politics online because it’s a controversial topic). But I had one of my church friends who chose Conservative (and my knee jerk reaction was telling me “Oh God NO! You can’t post that picture of you and whom you’re going to be voting for on Facebook!” I even have one or two friends that chose to vote for Liberal Democrats... but they gave me compelling reasons. Now Christmas 2019 the Conservatives won and my friend who posted himself and the flier made a post that sounded... like we was rubbing it in people’s faces calling us reMOANers.
I thought I’d take action and reason with him saying that his post sounded unlike himself and calling me and other people a reMOANer is not a good idea as you sound like you’re rubbing this loss in other people’s faces. I even told him that Brexit has affected me because of this FLGS I go to. Soon his ‘political friends’ ganged up on me saying “That shop closed because of the store owners opinion” but how can the ‘market’ be an ‘opinion’ I saw it happen in front of my face! I found it hard to afford any of his products, he stopped selling Chessex dice (and now bought some crappy Chinese ones that weren’t flying off the shelves.) I was even planning to get Betrayal at House on the Hill: Widows Walk expansion pack (but we wasn’t going to restock because the prices of those board games were too high to ship into the UK. So what was his reply? “It didn’t happen.” So he was getting likes... for gaslighting.
I just can’t believe that asshole said that to me! ‘It didn’t happen’ You might as well say “There is no war in Ba Sing Sei” to my face! (But no, you are hiding behind a computer screen believing Brexit is the best thing because we voted for it to happen... I didn’t want it to happen) he has the audacity to gaslight me, it did tick me off. 😡 I saw what has happened in front of me!
And after seeing that video that our county is now led by donkeys... I just laughed yes Britain is now run by donkeys in human clothes. I do hope the EU would take care of our ‘star’ while we are gone.
I know it’s going to be difficult to have a beLEAVEr mindset... but seriously you are shooting fireworks! OK we get it, you’ve won!

Tuesday Fic Recs (17.07.18 - 06.08.18)
Tumblr media
Halla! I have taken some weeks off from reccing fics, but here are some of the fics I fell in love with during the last three weeks (sorry if this gets a little long on your phones):
Theme: Pulchritude. by Heroine (Evoxine) (1/1)
Summary: In which Even's family runs a flower shop, Isak literally falls for Even, and Even witnesses Isak cry over a wrap that is too spicy for Isak's poor taste buds.
Along the way, they fall in love.
Comment:  Ah, I love this story, it's really sweet! ❤️ I love Isak and Even here, and their friends too. It was just so lovely to see their relationship develop. This fic gives me all the good feelings.
Not the End by nofeartina (8/?)
Summary: Sometimes a connection is so powerful that it can bend the fabric of space and time.
Or the parallel universe AU where Isak and Even find each other over and over again.
My comment: This fic is really intriguing, and I love it.  ❤️ It visits some dark places and it is painful at times, but it’s also beautiful, magic and gripping and I’m hooked. I loved the latest update, too!
you took me with a glance by everythingislove (narrylife) (1/1)
“I was just wondering if it hurt?”
“If what hurt?”
“When you fell from heaven?”
The boy sends him an entirely unamused expression. “Did you just call me Satan?”
Or: for a Hei Briskeby video, Even tries using cheesy pick-up lines on strangers. It goes better and worse than he expects.
Comment: This was a really sweet and funny meet-cute story!  ❤️ I always love when Isak and Even are dorky and sweet like they are here.
a taste of you and me by skamz (1/3)
Isak finds himself frowning slightly, now. Improvising? Random ideas? Tweaking recipes?
He can't help but disagree with people who have this kind of approach to baking. Honestly, in what world is that the best thing about baking? It can't be, because it's just—
It's just risky, and you run the chance of ruining everything by doing things that way.
Baking involves following specific steps and not deviating from them, and doing so in order to end up with something right and good. In order to not risk ending up with something that's a mess and in order to know what to expect.
It just shouldn't be whatever this guy described it as.
Or: for Isak, baking is a science and for Even, it's more of an art, and they face each other in a baking competition.
Comment: This is such a lovely and sweet story!  ❤️ I love how the boys approach learning differently in the kitchen, and how Even challenged Isak so that he tried something new.  Now  I can't wait to read the rest!
wait for me to come home by allyasavedtheday (6/10)
Summary: It really is a nice place.
And the dynamic between the three of them is one he could see himself settling into comfortably if given the chance.
Less than five minutes later they return from the kitchen with Eskild leading the charge. “It’s official!” he announces. “We want you to move in!”
“Really?” Even asks, feeling a wide smile stretch across his face. It almost feels too good to be true.
He’s finally doing it. He’s going out on his own and living his life on his own terms. And he just secured the first step.
An evak New Girl au.
Comment:  Ah, this story is so sweet, it’s perfect. ❤️ I love how Isak and Even is written, and the other characters, too.  And the sweet tension between Isak and Even is just so good. The boys are slowly figuring stuff out and they're just too cute, I love it so much!
Masters of their own domain by evakuality (6/6)
Summary: “Get out of my fucking way, Jonas,” Isak is saying as he pushes the box he’s holding into the back of his friend. Even stumbles to a halt behind him, alerted by Isak’s complaint to the sudden blockage in the stairwell above him. Jonas, for his part, flips Isak off behind his back, making Isak shift the box he’s holding with a groan, pressing it against the wall to steady it. That shift pulls the t-shirt Isak’s wearing hard against the planes of his back, which is right in front of Even’s eyes as he stands on a lower step, and that in turn makes Even’s mouth go dry.
Aka, a week in their life after they move into their new apartment.
Comment:  I’ll say it again: Oh. My. God. ❤️ I’m so grateful for this amazing birthday gift of a fic. This is so sweet and it has it ALL! The boys are so sweet together, and Isak is so strong and they are just like I imagine them. I love that this is a fic where we get to see the boys together, as a couple.  Actually, I didn’t realize how much I missed these boys before I started to read this fic.
Holy Fuck by arindwell
Summary: "Baby?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you please come over here and put your dick in my face?"
Isak looks up instantly at that, with this expression of shock and delight that Even loves, and which makes his heart clench in his chest.
Comment:  This was such a cool birthday gift and such a surprise, so I’ll say it again: Oh my god!!! ❤️ This fic is such a firework of sweet, funny boys and hotness! The boys are so them, too. I love it. I really hope I get to read some more smoking hot scenes from this writer.
Two Night Stand by sundaymournin
Isak and Even met on Grindr and are forced to extend their one-night stand because of a snowstorm (based on the film).
Comment:  I don't know the movie this fic is based on, but I really like this fic. ❤️ It was sweet, hot and funny. The ending was adorable, too. This fic had everything, really!  :)
Uke 27 Even Bech Næsheim by Ane_Rikke_Jegass (orphan_account) (5/5)
i ain't no hercules by grinsekaetzchen
Sometimes Isak thinks it would be easier if he could tell himself a story. A story of how the world came to an untimely end, of how it burned to the ground and how the few survivors stared on in horror, illuminated by the flames. A story of those survivors going on to save others in spite of everything. And later, when they were successful in repopulating the Earth, they would be called heroes. There would be celebrations in their honour. There would be people alive because of them.
The problem is: Isak may be one of the survivors, but he’s definitely not one of the heroes.
[Part 2 of the Post-Apocalypse AU "if you must live, darling one, just live"]
Part 3 of a universe created by ourselves
Comment: Damn. This is so good. Painful, but good. ❤️  I have somehow missed some of the earlier parts of this series too, so I read three of them in a row. And I'm just speechless. I love this so much.
(you'll always be my) thunder by kittpurrson (3/3)
They’re here for two weeks of pure bliss: rowing, racing, and scouting out the other clubs to see where they’re at before the next racing season begins. All Isak cares about are the lake and the wake--they’re the things that make the difference.
Then, of course, he meets Even. [A Sommersturm AU]
Comment:  This is such a good fic, I just love it so much. ❤️ The setting is interesting, and I love how it's all set up. The characterisation is so right and I love the vibe of it all.  Actually, I have thought about them several times on my holiday, when I have seen rowers or other things that reminded me of them. Now I kinda hope that we get to see more of them.
tie my heartstrings by Fxckxxp (1/1)
That boy wearing Even's old sweater is really, really cute.
Comment: This is such a sweet, sweet story. ❤️ So cute. It’s really well written, too. There’s not much more to say, really, it’s perfect. I love it and this must be just the right fic to read when it’s grey and raining and you need something to pick you up.
something in the language of trees by scarletbluebird (1/1)
Summary: Meet Isak Valtersen: Premed student by day, insomniac shit poet by night. Future doctor? Who the fuck knows.
He’s passing through the main square when he sees it, pinned up to the message board. Bright pink and flapping in the wind. At first he thinks he’s misread so he stops and back tracks, pressing the paper flat against the board. Nope, it still says the same thing:
looking for a friend for my 23 year old son. Pays 500kr/wk. serious inquiries only please.
“What the fuck?” He squints at it, suspiciously. Could it be some weird project the psych kids are doing?
He waffles for a moment but ultimately decides to take a picture of the flyer with his phone. Desperate times call for desperate measures, as they say. Plus, Eskild is gonna start selling his stuff online while Isak is away in class if he doesn’t start paying his portion of the rent on time. He tells himself he doesn’t actually have to call the number as he shuffles his way to class.
AU where Isak's job really was to be Even's friend
Comment: I got a tip about this fic and I’m really glad I read it! ❤️ I somehow missed it when it was posted, probably because I was sceptical about the part with the note. But this is really great, and so beautiful. I enjoyed it so much.
in retrospect, better by vesperthine (1/1)
Summary: This whole thing, this night, it’s like a montage; recreating important nights in infinity, calling those moments back like cutting out pieces of photographs. Picking the good parts, amplifying them through the lens of knowing it all turned out well.
Comment: Damn. This fic is so beautiful, lovely and real, and so hot, too.  ❤️ I love the banter between the boys, saying a lot about them and their relationship without really saying it. It must be an artform in itself to do that.
nothing sure in this world by withoutwords (1/1)
“What’s this?” Sana asks, pointing at something over Even’s shoulder. “Cheese toast? On a wedding menu?”
“It’s a thing.”
“Right.”
Comment: This is a really lovely story, and so amusing, too.  ❤️ I have this ridiculous thing that I kinda avoid proposals in fics, probably because I’m a cold hearted idiot or something, but I’m so glad I discovered this lovely, lovely fic. It was so worth it.
written in the stars by ourlovelybones (2/2)
Summary: Even sits down on the floor beside him, his fingers playing with his laminated VIP badge. “You’re overthinking the crowd thing. They weren’t dead, per se. You’re just a little tired.”
Isak is very tired, but it’s still not the right word to explain the heavy feeling in his bones and the empty weight in his heart. He should be over the moon right now. He should be dancing with Even to the venue’s after-show playlist and drinking beer to celebrate his best friend agreeing to finish out the rest of his U.S tour with him. It’s more than exhaustion he feels but Isak can’t quite describe exactly what it is - and certainly not to the person who took a whole two weeks off of work to come on this tour.
{the one where even follows isak around on tour but isak doesn't want to deal with his feelings}
Comment:  Ah, this fic really gripped me. ❤️ Isak and Even are so real and their surroundings are so vividly described, that I get sucked right in. And the pining... The second part was so heartbreaking that I almost wanted to cry as well. Now I only wish there was more.
cut off my fingers to touch your smile by bbyfruit  (3/8)
There’s a soulmark on his arm, unmistakable in its swirling colors, blues and reds and purples, and it’s exactly where he collided with the kid earlier.
“Oh, shit,” Even whispers, staring at it, mesmerized.
Mikael looks at him halfway amazed and halfway worried. “Is that what I think it is?”
“Yeah,” Even says grimly. “I guess I met him.”
Comment: Ah, I love this story.  ❤️ I love Isak and Even and I really really love that you can have more than one soulmate in this verse. Now I’m desperate to figure out what happens next.
